Tina meets the Goblin King.
A year has passed and Tina was now a big sister. One night she got into a huge fight with her mother and step father. Mom had become a famous children's author and needed to go to a book signing. She needed Me to baby sit again. That I was to baby sit my brother till the actual baby sister arrived to watch us. That I was to behave and do as my sitter instructed.
"I'm not a baby. I don't need a sitter. I could look after the little twerp myself." I replied frustrated.
"Tina what have I told you about calling your brother a twerp? It's not acceptable."
"Yeah yeah whatever." I replied rolling my eyes. "I just don't see why I can't come with you on tour."
"Don't you roll your eyes at me. We have discussed numerous times why you can't come with me and I don't have time to have this argument with you right now." Mom with a sigh.
"You never have time." I muttered.
"Tina please, I'm running late as it is. It's time you grew up and stopped complaining. I'm sick and tired of it and it ends now or I'll get the belt down off the wall and tan your hide myself." Mom replied frustrated.
I looked at her mother wide eyed. "You wouldn't."
"I've had with your attitude. I've been reading a lot of books about child rearing and they all say the same thing, spare the rod spoil the child it even says that in the bible. I don't care that your a teenager if you don't start behaving you will get the belt. You've been acting like a spoiled little brat since I published my book and booked a tour. You need to grow up and start taking more responsibility around here. Your father can't take care of your baby brother all by himself. So straighten up! Or we will skip the spanking and go straight to sending you the The General's military school. I don't care how bad the punishments are. You will be sent there. Do I make myself clear?" Mom demanded a frustrated look on her face.
"Yes mom." I said with a sigh trying to fight back tears. Ever since her brother had been born and her children's book published she hadn't been the same person.
I sighed again as I watched her mom and step father leave for the party. No sooner had they left her baby brother began to cry. "Oh do shut up! I wish." I said to myself. "I wish.:.."
What I didn't realize was that several goblins were listening in anticipation. "Is she going to say it?" One of the goblins whispered.
"Say what?" Another goblin asked confused.
"Shut up and listen!" Another goblin replied.
"I wish Jareth had fallen in love with me and had given me the same abilities he had given our mom." Tina said with a sigh. Then I could go with him to his kingdom and live happily ever after and I'd never have to listen to you whine ever again."
Jareth sat on his throne and stared into a crystal ball. Inside he could see Tina's reflection. He smiled she was as beautiful as her mother. Then he heard her make a wish. "I wish Jareth had fallen in love with me." He leaned closer into the Crystal ball and cocked an eyebrow. Could it be? Had this beautiful young lady just called his name? Had she made a wish concerning him?
Jareth shook his head. No, it couldnt be. He sighed as he looked around his throne room. The goblins were being roudy they had become excited when they had found out that Sarah had been telling their story. Which caused Jareth to roll his eyes. Why did his life have to be so humdrum? Why couldn't he be loved for once? He scoffed as he thought of how Sarah had portrayed him in her story and how she had described that wretched dwarf Higgle or whatever his name was.
Tina's baby brother continued to cry and she became increasingly irritated. Until she said the words that would chance her life forever. "I wish the goblins would come and take you away right now!" Tina said with a sigh as she placed her baby bother back in the crib and turned off the light.
The goblins all set at attention as the wish echoed through the throne room. They all looked to Jareth in confusion. What did he want them to do? Jareth smiled wether she realized it or not Tina had said the magic words. "Go fulfill her wish. However, this time don't let her find out you've taken the baby." The goblins nodded and soon Tina's brother was swept away to Jareth's castle.
Jareth decided he wanted to see if she really meant what she had said. "Oh well, it's too bad wishes like that no longer come true." I sighed.
"I wouldn't say that." Came a voice from behind me. I was almost afraid to turn around. Could it be? Could the goblin King from her mother's stories actually be real? Had Jareth heard her wish and come to grant it? There was only one way to find out. I turned around and there before her stood Jareth he was as handsome as her had described. In fact, I felt her mother's description fell a little short.
"Your him aren't you? Your The goblin king from my mother's story." I asked my eyes filled with wonder. Jareth just smiled. "Why isn't my brother crying? What have you done to him?"
"I heard your wish and I have granted it."
"I didn't mean it. I mean about taking my baby brother away. Where is he?"
Jareth sighed why must he always go through this ever time he stole a child from this family?
"You know very well where he is. Your brother is now in my world. He will belong to me by the end of the night." Jareth replied.
"But I didn't mean it."
Jareth smiled at Tina. "Oh you didn't?" He questioned knowing that she had indeed meant what she had said. "You are so much like your mother you know that? Always saying things that you don't really mean." Jareth replied with a laugh.
"I didn't even know that those were the real magic words. You know I didn't mean it. I
was just frustrated. I want my brother back.
Your taking him wasn't fair." I replied.
"Not fair? You really are your mother's daughter. She use to say that all the time too."'Jareth replied with a smile.
"My mother is going to be so angry. She will never forgive me when she finds out I sent him to your castle. She warned me time and time again that wishes were powerful and that I should never make one lightly. Please, please give me the chance to solve the labyrinth and save him." I said the regret showing in her voice.
"Tell me Tina, did you mean what you said?"
"I just told you that I didn't." I replied wirh a frown.
"Not about banishing your brother to my world."
"Then what?" I asked confused and irritated both at the same time.
"That you wished that I had fallen in love with you and that we could live happily ever after in my kingdom?"
"I...." I looked down at the floor unsure of how to respond. Then I looked up at Jareth and replied "yes I used to wish that you would fall in love with me and take me away. However, you've stolen those dreams away. You are as cruel as my mother warned me."
"To quote a friend of mine the Dreams of youth are but the regrets of maturity. How about we a make a deal. To prove to you that I'm not as cold hearted as your mother made me out to be I will grant your wish to allow you the chance to save your brother. However, wishes come true not free. There will be a price that has to be paid if you fail. The question is are you willing to pay it?"
"Yes."'
"Your absolutely certain?" I nodded. "I will allow you the chance to save your brother and solve the labyrinth. You have 13 hours to solve the labyrinth. If you can solve it before the 13th hour I will let both you and your brother go free. If not well, we will cross that bridge when we get to it." With that Jareth faded and I was left alone at the edge of the labyrinth.
All the goblins cheered perhaps this young girl would melt their master's frozen heart. After Sarah had defeated him Jareth was weak and heartbroken. In fact, he was rapidly loosing his powers. Jareth come to the conclusion that his emotions were the cause of his weekness and loss of power. He decided that they were not worth the pain they were causing him. So he went to the woman who dared call herself a queen in search of help. She had laughed at his request but had granted it with the stipulation that he would one day make her his queen. He had readily agreed wanting only to have his full powers back. Yet, because he couldn't stand the Queen and knowing what her demand would be he decided to wrap his emotions up with a hidden clause. Should he for whatever, reason fall in love and was able to earn that person's love in return then his emotions would return and the contract with the Queen would be voided. He doubted this would ever happen after what happened with Sarah he doubted that anyone could ever love a beast like him.
The Queen was not happy upon hearing that Jareth had been watching a young girl in his crystals. There was no way she was going to let him out of their contract it was binding and completely unbreakable. However, something told her that she should be wary of this young girl. When the Queen was told that Jareth used his abilities to once again kidnap a child and had granted the young lady a chance to rescue the baby she became extremely worried. Even more so when she came upon a prophecy that warned that should Jareth fall in love and earn that person's love in return her power over him would cease to exist. In fact, if the girl admitted to loving Jareth it would be her downfall. She had to stop this girl from fulfilling the prophecy.
