Ch5. Back at Hogwarts
My last month at the Burrow was a blast. I had so much fun with the Weasley's, Bonnie and Harry. Trust me, I loved staying at the Weasley's, but, I kind of want to go back to Hogwarts and see Hermione and Amy again.
On our last evening, Mrs Weasley cooked us a scrumptious meal consisting of all my favourite foods; a roast, potato(mashed and baked), carrots, baked pumpkin and assorted sandwiches. The meal ended with my favourite desserts; treacle tart, apple pie, ice cream and, you guessed it, chocolate.
Fred, George and I rounded the evening with a colourful display of Filbuster's Fireworks. We then had a hot mug of hot chocolate and went to bed.
For almost the whole night Ginny kept going on about how excited she was to be finally starting Hogwarts and what house she might be in. We all know that she's going to be in Gryffindor. Before I went to sleep, I saw her writing in a black book, probably her diary. She must have bought in Diagon Alley.
In the morning, the others took a while to actually get up. By five in the morning I was already up, dressed and was packing my trunk. I'm wearing just a simple green singlet top and denim shorts with green converse. My hair is up in a ponytail and I'm wearing light makeup.
For the whole morning before we leave, Mrs Weasley is rushing around in a bad mood looking for spare socks and quills, people kept colliding on the stairs and Mr Weasley almost broke his ankle as he crossed the yard and tripped over a stray chicken carrying Ginny's trunk. Okay, I exaggerated, but he did stumble.
To get to Kings Cross Station, we're driving in Mr Weasley's Ford Anglia-which in fact had special features added so that there is an invisibility booster and an undetectable extension charm so that more that three people can fit across the back.
Fred, George, Harry, Ron, Bonnie, Percy and I clamber into the backseat, while Mrs Weasley and Ginny are in the front seat(which had bee expanded too) and Mr Weasley in the drivers seat.
Once we're all settled, Mr Weasley starts the engine and we drive out of the yard, I take a last look at the house. I barely have time to wonder when we come driving back to the yard again because George forgot their fireworks. Five minutes later we skid to a halt in the yard so Fred can get his broomstick. When I believe that we're going to be late, Ginny shrieks when we reach the motorway that she forgot her diary. By the time she got back in the car, I look at Harry's watch to see that we're very late. We're going to miss the train.
Mr and Mrs Weasley have an argument on the way about using the invisibility booster but we don't use it.
We reach Kings Cross Station by a quarter to eleven. Mr Weasley dashes across the road to get us trolleys for our trunks and we all hurry to the station. We only have five minutes left. Are we going to make it?
"Percy first." Mrs Weasley says once we reach the barrier. Percy casually walked through the barrier followed by Mr Weasley, then Fred and George.
"I'll take Ginny and you four come right after." Mrs Weasley says as she and Ginny disappear into the barrier.
"Alright," I say. "Bonnie and I'll go now and you two follow."
Bonnie and I lean on the barrier and fall through.
"Come on." I say. "The trains about to leave."
We hurry onto the train just as the doors are closing.
"Where are Harry and Ron?" Bonnie asks anxiously.
"They should be here. They're probably down there somewhere." I reassure her.
We make our way down the corridor to find Hermione and Amy. We soon find them in the last carriage.
"Hey guys!" I say and I hug them both.
"Sarah! Bonnie!" Amy squeals. "Where's Harry...and Ron?" She asks. She blushes deep red.
"I don't know. They should be here though. They followed us through the barrier. I think." I say.
I sit down next to Amy and we all talk about our summers. Hermione went to Africa with her parents, and Amy stayed home as her parents half disowned her and her brother.
For a while I stare out the window. At some point I swear I see Mr Weasley's Ford Anglia, but then I think, 'why would Mr Weasley's Ford Anglia be flying above the Hogwarts Express?'
"He guys," I say. "Do you want to sit with Fred and George? They'd probably be with Lee too." I add.
"Sure." Amy says. "Coming?" She asks Bonnie and Hermione.
"Um..." Hermione trails off.
"We might stay." Bonnie says.
"Alright, we'll see you at the feast, yeah?" I say.
"Yep." Bonnie says, popping the p.
"See you then." Amy says and we begin searching the carriages for Fred and George.
"So, where are Harry and Ron?" Amy asks as we peer into a compartment with Ginny and some other first years.
"I seriously don't know. They were meant to follow Bonnie and I, but..."
"They didn't?"
"I guess not."
We soon find Fred, George and Lee in a compartment near the front. I open the carriage door.
"Hello, dear friends." I say dramatically.
The turn to see me. They chuckle.
"Hello again Sarah." Lee says.
"What brings you and Miss Fields to our compartment?" George says.
"Nothing. We just can to sit with you." I say as I plop down beside Fred and Amy beside Lee.
"So, how are you Sarah since we ditched you at the station?" Fred asks.
"For the record, Fred," I say. "You didn't ditch me; and I'm fine."
He chuckles. "How are you, Miss Amy?"
"Alright. As good as I'll be since I was shut up in my room everyday of summer." She says miserably.
Poor Amy.
"And why is that?" George asks curiously.
"I don't want to talk about it...I got half-disowned, okay?" She says.
"Amy...I'm sorry." Lee says.
Wow. I never thought Lee was sympathetic.
For another hour, Fred, George, Lee and I play exploding snap and eat lollies from the trolley.
Soon, we change into our school robes and the train comes to a stop.
"We're back!" I squeal.
Amy chuckles. "Come on, lets get a carriage."
"That's right, we don't go on the boats this year." I say sadly.
We all leave and on the platform, I start searching for Harry, Ron, Hermione and Bonnie. I find Hermione and Bonnie, but no Harry or Ron. Where the hell are they?
The four of us and Fred, George and Lee find a carriage. As there are only six seats in a carriage, Amy sits on my lap.
We soon reach the vast castle. It still looks as beautiful as last year. I remember the boat experience like it was yesterday. It was amazing.
We join the crowd to enter the Great Hall which is again lit up with candles. A lot of students are already sitting at their house tables. Amy, Bonnie, Hermione and I sit down at the Gryffindor table.
"It feels so good to be a second year." Amy says to me.
"I know right. We don't look like the youngest anymore." I say.
"I totally agree."
When everyone is seated, I look up at the staff table. I see Professor Dumbledore, all my professors from last year and some that I recognise, but I didn't have, Gilderoy Lockhart is there-but Snape isn't.
"Where's Snape?" I ask Amy.
"Maybe he's ill!" She says happily.
"Yeah, or maybe he's left!" I say. "Because he didn't get the Defence Against the Dark Arts job."
"Maybe he got attacked!"
We giggle at our jokes. We know they're not true. But, where is he? That's odd for a teacher to not be at the table.
The great doors suddenly open to McGonagall with the Sorting Hat and scared first years following.
"Wow," I whisper to Amy. "Were we that small?"
She silently giggles.
I soon spot Ginny with her bold red hair in the middle of the line, looking really nervous.
McGonagall places the Sorting Hat on the stool and it's 'mouth' opens:
"A thousand years or more ago,
When I was newly sewn,
There lived four wizards of renown,
Whose names are still well known:
Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.
They shared a wish, a hope, a dream,
They hacked a daring plan
To educate young sorcerers
This Hogwarts School began.
Now each if these four founders
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtues
In the ones they had to teach.
By Gryffindor, the bravest were
Prized far beyond the rest;
For Ravencalw, the cleverest
Would always be the best;
For Hufflepuff, hard workers were
Mostly worthy of admission;
And power-hungry Slytherin
Loved those of great ambition.
While still alive they did divide
Their favourites from the throng,
Yet how to pick the worthy ones
When they were dead and gone?
'Twas Gryffindor who found the way,
He whipped me off his head
The founders put some brains in me
So I could choose instead!
Now slip me snug about your ears,
I've never yet been wrong,
I'll have a look inside your mind
And tell you where you belong!"
The Great Hall bursts into applause as the Hat finishes the song.
McGonagall rolls open the piece of parchment and calls the names;
"Atkinson, Elizabeth!" She calls.
She sits the hat on her head and it falls down past her eyes.
"Hufflepuff!"
The Hufflepuffs all cheer as she takes her seat.
"Berkeley, Stewart!"
"Slytherin!"
"Brandstone, Lucas!"
"Ravenclaw!"
"Brooks, Adelle!"
"Gryffindor!"
Our fist Gryffindor. I clap loudly for Adelle.
"Campbell, Zachary!"
"Slytherin!"
"Creevey, Colin!"
A small boy, with mousy-brown hair steps up. He's shaking with nerves.
The hat falls over his eyes. A few minutes later,
"Gryffindor!"
He relaxes and joins the table.
After Colin Creevey is "Dean, Violet!" Who was sorted into Ravenclaw.
Then they finally got down to the 'W''s.
After "Woods, Shane!" Was sorted into Hufflepuff, McGonagall rolled up the parchment and took away the hat.
Soon Dumbledore stands up.
"Good evening students." He says. "Welcome back to another year at Hogwarts. I don't want to keep you all waiting. Tuck in!"
He sits back down and the golden plates and goblets fill up with food.
I don't eat much. I'm worried about Harry and Ron. If they missed the train, where are they now?
After we finish eating, Dumbledore gives out the notices-no entering the Forbidden Forest, no magic in the corridors, Quidditch trials-the usual.
We all move off to bed. It's weird not being escorted by the prefects, but I'm a second year now, not a first.
Everyone is whispering about Harry and Ron. I hear snippets of the conversations-apparently they 'flew a car to Hogwarts'. As if, they're smarter than that.
When Hermione, Amy, Bonnie and I reach the common room, we see Harry and Ron outside, who obviously don't know the new password.
"Where were you guys?" I say, punching Harry in the arm. "I thought you were behind Bonnie and I."
"We were." Harry says. "Look, I'll explain inside-"
"No. You're telling us, right now." I say, stamping my foot down.
"Fine," Ron says. "We missed the train because the barrier wouldn't let us through-"
"Why?" Bonnie asks.
"I don't know." Ron says. "So then we thought-I thought-we could take Dad's car."
"So you flew the car here? Those rumours are true then?" I say.
"Rumours? Well, yes." Harry says.
"We kinda crashed into the Whomping Willow, you know that wild tree on the grounds? Well, that tree. Then, when we got inside, Snape caught us." Ron says.
"The Whomping Willow? So that's why Snape wasn't at the staff table." I say.
"Sarah, shut up." Harry says.
I glare at him.
"He took us to his office and gave us a lecture. He called McGonagall there and she made us eat there." Harry says.
"That's the story?" I ask.
"Yep." Ron says. "Now, before you give us a lecture, can you tell us the password?"
I roll my eyes. "Wattlebird." The portrait of the Fat Lady swings open and we climb through the hole and into the common room where there is a sudden storm if clapping.
Arms grab Harry and Ron as Hermione, Amy, Bonnie and I scramble through after them.
"Brilliant!" Lee says.
"Inspired!" Fred says.
"What an entrance! Flying a car into the Whomping Willow, people'll be talking about that one for years!" George says.
I roll my eyes again. Bonnie, Amy and I make our way upstairs to the dormitory.
As usual, we see Lavender Brown and Parvati Patil.
"Hey guys." Parvati says. "Did you guys hear-"
"Yes, Parvati, we heard about Harry and Ron. I am Harry's sister remember?"
"Oh, right." She says and she goes into the bathroom.
"Well, I'm stuffed. I'm going to bed." I say. I change I to my green tank top and Tinkerbell pyjama shorts and fall onto my comfortable four-poster bed.
Parvati comes back into the room.
"You want to know something else?" She says.
"What?" I say.
"We're getting a new girl. McGonagall told me. She's coming in a week. Her name's Olivia Fields."
