Ch19: Waking and Exlanations

Amy's POV

"Amy, have you seen my hairbrush?" Comes Parvati's voice from inside the bathroom.

Just a few hours ago, after there was a notice for all students to go straight to our common rooms, McGonagall came and told us some very bad news.

Bonnie and Ginny had been taken into the Chamber. And there was another message under the one about the Chamber being opened. One saying that their bodies will lie in the Chamber forever.

I felt broken. First I'd lost Sarah, as well as Hermione, and now Bonnie. I know Sarah will come back, because of the Mandrake juice, but Bonnie won't. She's gone forever. And Ginny. I never really got along with her, mostly because she also likes Harry, but it's still sad that she's gone. It was so hard seeing Fred, George and Percy's reactions. There was nothing anyone could do. They loved their sister, and now she's gone.

The only people who weren't there to find out about Bonnie and Ginny we Harry and Ron. They were probably up to mischief again.

But now, we're all packing because they're closing the school. The Hogwarts Express is leaving at nine tomorrow morning, and hopefully the people petrified will be woken by then. I'll be able to see Sarah again, but not Bonnie.

"It's under the sink!" I call to Parvati.

Parvati soon comes out of the bathroom. "Amy, are you okay?"

I don't say anything. I just turn away, fighting the tears.

"Oh,I shouldn't have asked. Of course you're not okay. You lost your best friend, even though Sarah is coming back, but you also just lost-"

"Please don't." I whisper.

"Amy, it's going to be okay. I promise. You will still have me. And Sarah and Hermione and Harry and Ron. Everything will be okay after a while."

"Parvati please." I say. I want her to stop. I don't want any more pain for tonight. It already hurts enough.

"I know what it's like you know." Parvati says. "I've lost someone too. It was back before we even started here, when I was ten. I had this friend, Corrine, who Padma and I used to always play with. We were the best of friends. And one day, we were playing tag and I was in." Parvati breathes heavily. "Corrine...she ran out onto the street and a car was coming. She didn't see it until it was too late. I saw the car hit her, how her body smashed up against the front of the car. I saw it all happen, Amy. I know you feel sad and empty knowing that your friend is gone. I feel that pain every day."

I feel a tear run down my cheek. "Parvati..."

"It's okay. The pain numbs after a while. You can't feel the pain, but you know it's there. You just have to live through it, move on. I'm not saying you should just forget about Bonnie, but you should let yourself feel happy again. I may be saying this too soon, but it helps. It really does."

"Thanks Parvati. And I'm really sorry about your friend." I say, wiping away the tears.

"It all okay." She sniffs, wiping away the tear that ran down her cheek. "Now, we should probably finish packing."

I nod. I grab some of the clothes laid out of the bed and place them into my trunk.

"I don't want to leave." Olivia says coming into the room. "Oh. Are you guys okay?"

She stops dead in her tracks, seeing the traces of the last few minutes.

"Um, yeah." I say.

"We are now." Parvati says.

"Oh good." Olivia says smiling and pulling us into a hug. "I don't want my friends to be sad."

"Guys, have you seen my pink hairbow?" Lavender says stressfully walking in from the bathroom.

"No..." I say.

"Ugh, it my favourite bow and I can't find it anywhere." Lavender says, opening and closing her drawers.

"We'll find it eventually, Lav." Olivia says.

"Good. Ugh, I have so many clothes, how am I going to fit it all in my trunk?" Lavender whinges.

I roll my eyes and go back to filling my own trunk. Truthfully, I'm getting sick of Lavender's whinging, it is so annoying. She always whinging about clothes or boys or her hair not doing what she wants it to. Sometimes I just want to put a silencing spell on her.

I sigh as I put a prank set I got from Sarah for Christmas into the trunk.

"I'm going to miss you guys so much." Parvati says suddenly. "I mean, we aren't going to see each other much anymore, if Hogwarts won't be open next year because of this Chamber business."

"I know, I'll miss you too. I really did like hanging out with you guys." I say, closing my trunk after adding the last few trinkets.

"Me too. You guys were all nice to me ever since I came here." Olivia says.

"Well, I will be making sure we all hang out while Hogwarts is closed. We could go shopping or see a movie." Lavender says.

"That sounds great! We could even do it during the summer." Parvati says.

"Yeah." Olivia and I both say.

We're all silent. I take this opportunity to go downstairs, to spend a few hours in the common room.

I sit on the floor by the fire, pulling my legs in so that my knees are touching my chin. I wish everything could be normal. Not that being a witch is normal, but I wish I could have a normal life as a witch. Like I want to have parents who love me, not shove me away an refuse to have any thing do do with me. I also just want to have a normal time at Hogwarts, not having so much drama. It's not that I don't like the action and being able to do things that aren't boring, but I want to be one of the people whose Hogwarts experience was a breeze.

I get up and leave the common room. I want to at least spend probably my last time at Hogwarts actually being around the castle, not locked up in Gryffindor tower. I decide to go up to the Hospital wing and wait for Sarah and Hermione to wake up-that is if the Mandrake draught works.

They're both hidden around curtains when I walk in. Suddenly, Madam Pomfrey comes out from behind the curtain hiding Hermione.

"Miss Fields," Madam Pomfrey jumps. "You shouldn't be out at this hour. It is dangerous."

"I know." I say. "Can I wait up here for Sarah and Hermione?"

"Well, okay. They should wake up within the next hour, the Mandrake draught is finally ready. Now, I must get to the rest of the petrified students."

Madam Pomfrey then bustles around each curtain giving each petrified person the draught.

I go around into Sarah's ward and sit beside her. I grab her hand. "Hey Sarah." I say, hoping she an still hear me. "You're going wake up soon. And you're going to be all fine. But I have some bad news. Just a few hours ago Professor McGonagall came to us and told us that...that Ginny and Bonnie were taken into the Chamber to die. I'm sorry Sarah, I just thought you should know." I sniff, wiping away a tear I didn't know was there. "I could tell you all this when you wake up, but I wanted to tell you now."

I sit in silence for a while. When is she going to wake up?

Within a dew moments, Sarah's eyes flicker open.

"Hey there stranger." She whispers.

"Sarah!" I tackle her in a hug. "You're okay. You're okay."

"Of course I'm fine. I haven't died have I?"

I let out a laugh. "I'm not sure if you heard me or not, but-"

"I heard you." She says."They're not dead. Ginny and Bonnie aren't dead. Hopefully Harry saved them."

"How would Harry save them?" I ask, confused.

"Because...I should probably start from the beginning, this is going to sound crazy but it's the truth. So, when I was petrified, I became a sort of ghost, you could say. I couldn't talk to anyone and I couldn't be seen. I could only be seen and talk to the other petrified people. So I still had Hermione. So basically most of this time I've been watching you guys, not in a stalker way okay, I've just been seeing how you guys have been and what you've been doing. Anyway, so earlier tonight, when we found out about Bonnie and Ginny, Hermione and I kinda followed Harry and Ron who went and got Lockhart then went to Myrtles bathroom to get to the Chamber. Yes, the entrance was in Myrtles bathroom and there was his pipe leading down to it. So we went down and there were heaps of chambers down there. Then we found out Lockhart was actually an idiot when he tried to use the spell Obliviate on Harry-"

"What's Obliviate?" I interrupt.

"Obliviate is a spell to take away ones memories." She says. "Anyway, so it backfired because of Ron's wand, and then the whole chamber caved in."

"Where were Bonnie and Ginny and the monster?" I ask.

"They were in a different chamber, I'll get to that. So Harry was on one side of this huge wall of rocks and Ron, Hermione, Lockhart and I were on the other side. And because I was a ghost thing, I was able to walk through the rocks. I followed Harry down into the chamber with Bonnie and Ginny. It was bigger than the rest and it had this huge statue of Salazar Slytherin too. And when we got down there, there was this guy and his name was Tom Riddle-"

"Bonnie told me about him. I don't know if you know about this, but Bonnie told me that it was her and Ginny behind all the attacks."

"Yeah, I was there when she told you." Sarah says. "I got around, haha. So then we had this long chat and Riddle is Voldemort! And he was really Slytherins heir and he called the Basilisk and ordered it to kill Harry. Did I mention that he could also see me? Yeah, I'm guessing it was because he was a memory."

"What's a Basilisk and he was a memory?" I ask. This is making no sense whatsoever. And it doesn't surprise me that his Tom Riddle is You-Know-Who. Who else would make someone attack muggle borns with a monster?

"Didn't Harry and Ron tell you? The monster attacking us was a Basilisk. A Basilisk is a giant serpent that kills by looking people on the eye. The only reason none of us died is because it didn't look any of us directly in the eye. You see, Mrs Noris saw it through the water on the floor at Halloween, Colin Creevey saw it through his camera, Justin saw it through Nearly Headless Nick-and Nick got full blast of it, and Hermione and I saw it through a mirror. So yeah. And Riddle was a memory preserved in the Diary."

"The one Harry found in the bathroom?"

"The very same. Okay, so then Harry was battling the Basilisk, and I couldn't do anything to help as I couldn't use my wand. And did I mention that Riddle took Harry's wand? So he didn't have his either. And a Phoenix came in with the Sorting Hat too, and then a sword magically appeared. So Harry killed the Basilisk with it, but he got a fang stuck in his arm. But he was okay, because Phoenix's have healing powers in their tears and Fawkes-the Phoenix-healed Harry. Then Harry stabbed the diary. And that's all I know, because I was pulled back by some magical force to my body. Must have been the the potion."

"Whoa. That made like zero sense by the way. But anyway, are the others okay?" I ask.

"I think so. Where's Hermione?" Sarah asks.

"Did someone call me?" Comes Hermione's voice.

I turn around and Hermione is poking her head in through the curtain.

"Hermione!" I jump up and tackled her in a hug too.

"Jeez Amy, I'm happy to see you too."

I giggle. "Oh yeah, bad news guys. Since Bonnie and Ginny were taken, they're going to close Hogwarts!"

"What?!" Sarah and Hermione exclaim.

"Yeah. McGonagall told us and we all had to pack our trunks. We leave tomorrow at nine. But if Bonnie and Ginny are okay, we should be able to stay."

"Oh good. I think they are." Sarah says.

"So, Sarah, is that what happened on your side of the rocks?" Hermione says.

"Yep, pretty eventful. What about you?" Sarah smiles.

"Well, since Lockhart was Obliviated and Ron was pulling away the rocks, it was pretty boring, but amusing. Lockhart kept asking Ron really weird questions. And I helped Ron, but like you said, I moved the rocks near him so it didn't look odd that random rocks were falling away."

"You must have had fun?" I ask Hermione.

"It definitely was. If we don't have to leave, do you think exams would still be on?" She asks.

I roll me eyes. "Really? All you can think of is exams?"

"Wait, exams!" Sarah says, jolting up. "We didn't even study Hermione! And we also need to talk to McGonagall about next year too!"

Hermione gasps. "We didn't! Oh we are going to fail our exams!"

"Really guys? I don't study any how and I still manage to pass. You guys will definitely pass, you guys are the smartest in our year. If I can pass without studying, you can can pass with late night cramming."

Sarah let's out a laugh. She's cut off by the sound of he door opening. I open the curtain to se who is it. It's McGonagall bringing in Ginny and Bonnie.

"They're okay!" Sarah and Hermione say in sync.

"Bonnie and Ginny are alive!" Sarah says, jumping up

She runs out behind the curtain and over to where Madam Pomfrey is closing curtains around Bonnie and Ginny's beds.

"Madam Pomfrey!" Sarah says.

"Miss Potter, you're awake! You should be resting, get back to your bed!"

"But, I want to see Bonnie! She's my sister!" Sarah says desperately.

"You can see her in the morning, now back to your bed. Miss Granger!" Madam Pomfrey says when she sees Hermione outside my ward. "Both of you! Back to your beds!"

"Please Madam Pomfrey." Sarah pleads.

"Oh fine. Five minutes only." And Madam Pomfrey bustles away over to each petrified student to see if they're awake.

Sarah rushes in behind the curtain. Hermione and I follow quickly.

"Bonnie!" Sarah gasps, hugging Bonnie tightly.

"S-Sarah!" Bonnie says, hugging her back.

"Bonnie I'm so sorry!" Sarah says. "I was down in the Chamber with you, Ginny and Harry. Tom Riddle was down there and he told us everything. I'm so sorry for neglecting you, I promise I won't do it again!"

"It's okay Sarah. I'm over it now. I could hear everything Riddle was saying, even what you were saying to me while I was down there. I know your sorry, a Riddle was horrible." Bonnie says.

"Oh Bonnie!" Sarah says, hugging her again.

"But, but Riddle was forcing me to do petrify those students. He told me to go after Hermione, and you were there! I petrified you Sarah. Aren't you least but angry at me?"

"Oh course not Bonnie." Sarah tells her. "I know you were forced to do it. Riddle was too powerful."

"Thank you Sarah. But how were you down in the Chamber? You were petrified."

"Well, that's a long story." Sarah says.

"It is." I say.

"Amy!" Bonnie says. I go over to her and give her a hug."Hermione!" Hermione also gives her a hug.

"So, basically what happened." Sarah says once we're finished. "Is that when we were petrified we became sort of ghosts that couldn't be seen or heard by you guys, and then Hermione and I followed you guys around the castle. And we followed Harry and Ron down into the Chamber and yeah." Sarah says.

"Wow. I know everything that happened down there, Harry told Dumbledore and McGonagall everything-"

"Dumbledore's here? Where are they?" I interrupt.

"Yeah, Dumbledore's back! And They're all in McGonagall's office. Harry, Ron and Dumbledore. I saw Lockhart come out with Ron not long after Ginny, McGonagall and I left." Bonnie says.

"Do you guys think we should go down there?" I say to Sarah and Hermione.

"Certainly not, Miss Fields." Madam Pomfrey suddenly says, coming in from behind the curtain. "Miss Potter, Miss Granger and Miss Lupin need rest!"

"But they need to see Professor Dumbledore!" I say.

"No they do not, Miss Lupin was sent up here already." Madam Pomfrey says.

"Well, Sarah and Hermione need to see him." I say.

"I don't really." Hermione says. "Although Sarah does."

"You can all see him tomorrow morning." Madam Pomfrey says.

"No, we need to see him now!" Sarah says.

"No, Miss Potter. Tomorrow only." Madam Pomfrey says. "Now, back to your beds, you five minutes is definitely up, I gave you an extra five minutes. Now back to your beds, and Miss Fields back to your dormitory."

We all groan as we say goodbye to Bonnie and Sarah and Hermione go back to their beds. I reluctantly leave, but I take the opportunity to go to McGonagall's office instead of the Gryffindor Common room.

When I get there, I know on the door a few times. The door opens and and I see Dumbledore and Harry talking.

"Sorry Professor Dumbledore, I just needed to see you." I say.

"Hey Amy." Harry says and it makes my heart flutter.

"Hey Harry." I reply nervously. I still get extremely nervous around Harry.

"What did you need to see me about, Miss Fields?" Dumbledore asks me.

"Well, it's about tonight's events." I say.

"Ah, what is it?"

"Well, I've just been to the Hospital wing, and Sarah and Hermione are awake-"

"They are?" Harry interrupts.

"Yeah, and they're fine. Anyways, Sarah told me that she was down in the Chamber with Harry-"

"So Riddle wasn't lying?" Harry asks.

"Riddle told you Sarah was down there?" I ask.

"Yeah. But go on."

Dumbledore just watches me, his eyes twinkling under his half-moon spectacles.

"And she just wanted to let you know that everything Harry is saying is the truth." I say.

"I believe Harry, Amy." Dumbledore says.

"You do?" I ask.

"Yes I do. I have one question, how was Miss Potter down in the Chamber?"

"Well she told me that when she was petrified, she became a sort of ghost that no one could see or hear. But she could see and hear everything else going on. So she followed Harry and Ron down into the Chamber." I explain.

"Ah. Well, I think we can all finish up here Harry, Amy. We have a feast right now, and I suggest you both go down. I will in the meantime write to Azkaban, we need out gamekeeper back. And I must draft an advertisement for the Daily Prophet too." Dumbledore adds thoughtfully. "We'll be needing a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. Dear me, we do seem to go through them quickly, don't we?"

I let out a small laugh, and follow Harry to the door. Harry is just about to open it when the door burst open so violently that it bangs against the wall. A man with pale blonde hair and dark robes walks in, followed by an elf.

I know who that is. It's Lucius Malfoy. He works at the ministry, and my stepfather is good friends with him. I hate him, he is so rude and violent. And the elf must be his house-elf. He probably treats the poor thing like scum.

"Good evening, Lucius." Dumbledore says pleasantly to him.

Lucius almost hits Harry and I as he sweep into to room, the elf following looking terrified.

"So!" Lucius says, his eyes filled with fury. "You've come back. The governors suspended you, yet you still saw fit to return to Hogwarts."

"Well, you see Lucius." Dumbledore says, smiling serenely. "The eleven other governors contacted me today. They'd herd that Arthur Weasley's daughter had been killed and wanted back here at once. They seemed to think I was the best for the job after all. Very strange tales they told me, too. Several of them seemed to think that you had threatened to curse their families if hey didn't agree to suspend me."

I glare at Lucius. He's a horrible man. Cursing people's families just to get what he wants is horrible! I notice his face pale even more than it already is, but his eyes still slits of fury.

"So-have you stopped the attacks yet?" He sneers. Now it's obvious that he's Draco's father. "Have you caught the culprit?"

"We have." Dumbledore says with a smile.

"Well?" Lucius says sharply. "Who is it?"

"The same person as last time, Lucius. But this time, Lord Voldemort was acting though somebody else-two students to be exact. By the means of this diary." Dumbledore says, and he holds up the black diary, which now has a hole in it. What happened to it?

"I see..." Lucius says slowly.

"A clever plan." Dumbledore says, still staring Lucius straight in the eye. "Because if Harry and Amy here, and their friend Ron hadn't found this book, why-Ginny Weasley and Bonnie Lupin may have taken all the blame. No one would ever be able to prove that they hadn't acted of their own free will..."

Lucius stays quiet. His face suddenly mask-like. Does he have something to do with this? Most likely, knowing him.

"And imagine," Dumbledore goes on. "What might have happened then...The Weasley's are one of our most prominent pure-blood families. Imagine the effect on Arthur Weasley and his Muggle Protection Act, if his own daughter had been discovered attacking and killing Muggle-borns. Very fortunate this diary was discovered, and Riddle's memories wiped from it. Who knows what the consequences might have been otherwise.."

"Very fortunate." Lucius says like he was forced. He hates the Weasley's, but seriously there is nothing wrong with them.

I notice Harry has no interest in any of this, as he his looking at Lucius' house-elf and the little elf is making gestures at him. Do they know each other or...

Harry makes a look of understanding and turns to Lucius. "Don't you want to know how Bonnie and Ginny got hold of that diary, Mr Malfoy?"

Lucius rounds on Harry. "How should I know how two stupid girls got hold of it?" He says.

No need to be so rude Lucius.

"Because you gave it to Ginny," Harry says. "In Flourish and Blotts. You picked up her old Transfiguration book, and slipped the diary inside. Then obviously shared it with Bonnie."

I notice Lucius' fists clench, then unclench. So he is behind this?

"Prove it." He hisses.

"Oh no one will be able to do that." Dumbledore says smiling. "Not now Riddle has vanished from he book. On the other hand, I would advise you, Lucius, not to go giving out any more of Lord Voldemort's school things. If any more of them find their way into innocent hands, I think Arthur Weasley, for one, will make sure they are traced back to you."

Lucius twitches his hand, but turns around to the elf.

"We're going, Dobby!"

So Dobby is the name. I think I remember him talking about an elf named Dobby at one of the dinner parties he came to...

Lucius wrenches open the door, and the elf, Dobby, hurries after him. Lucius kicked the poor elf through the door. I can hear the elf squealing with pain all the way along the corridor.

What do we do now?

"Professor Dumbledore." Harry says hurriedly. "Can I give that diary back to Mr Malfoy, please?"

Why does he want to do that? But, anything Harry does is for a reason.

"Certainly Harry." Dumbledore says calmly. "But hurry, the feast remember."

Harry grabs the diary and hurries out of the office.

"Well Professor Dumbledore." I say. "I think I might go down to the feast. Goodbye."

"Goodbye Amy." Dumbledore says, as I leave.

I see Harry round the corner ahead. Why'd it take him to long to get here?

I chase after Harry as he follows Lucius and Dobby to the stairs.

"Mr Malfoy!" Harry gasps, coming to a halt. "I've got something for you."

And Harry forces the diary into his hand.

"What the-" Lucius opens it, and throws away a dirty sock that was in it. Why on earth was there a sock in the diary? Harry must have put it in there, but what for?

"You'll meet the same sticky end as your parents one of these days, Harry Potter." He says softly. "They were meddlesome fools too. As for you Amy Fields, I will be having a little chat to your mother and stepfather."

I glare at him as he turns away. Time for a beating when I get home.

"Come Dobby. I said come!"

But Dobby doesn't follow. I turn to the elf and I see he is holding the dirty sock Lucius threw aside.

Oh my gosh, Dobby is now free. If a house-elves master gives them clothing they are free. Looks like this was Harry's plan. He's a good guy.

Dobby is holding the sock like its a lost treasure. He deserves his freedom, Lucius was horrible to him. "Master has given Dobby as sock." He says joyfully. "Master gave it to Dobby."

"What's that?" Lucius spits. "What did you say?"

"Dobby has got a sock." Dobby says. "Master threw it and Dobby caught it, and Dobby-Dobby is free."

Lucius stands frozen, staring at Dobby. Then he suddenly lunges at Harry.

"You lost me my servant!"

"Get off of him!" I yell, but he doesn't listen.

But then Dobby shouts, "You must not harm, Harry Potter!" Then there is a bang and Lucius is thrown backwards. He hits the stairs and slides down, landing in a crumpled heap at the bottom. He gets up, his face livid, and pulls out his wand, but Dobby raises a long threatening finger.

"You shall go now." He says fiercely, pointing Lucius down. "You shall not touch Harry Potter. You shall go now."

Lucius gives all three of us one last glare before he swings his cloak around and hurries out of sight. Coward.

"Harry Potter freed Dobby!" The elf says shrilly, gazing up at Harry.

I smile. Dobby really adores Harry now.

"Harry Potter set Dobby free! How could Dobby ever repay him?"

"Least I could do, Dobby." Harry says. "Just promise me one thing, never try to save my life again."

The elf's ugly brown fave splits into a wide, toothy smile. Aw.

"Well," Harry says. "Amy and I'd better go. There's a feast, and my sister, Sarah-you know Sarah, and my friend Hermione are awake now..."

Dobby throws his small arms around Harry's middle and hugs him.

"Harry Potter is greater by far than Dobby ever knew! Just like his sister!" Dobby sobs. "Farewell, Harry Potter!"

And with a loud crack Dobby disappears.

"Well Harry." I say. "I think we'd better go down to the feast."

A/N
Long chapter in return for the long wait!

Anyway, HAPPY LATE NEW YEAR!

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and happy New Year, even if you don't celebrate one or the other.

A question: what is your New Year's resolution?

I have a few, but I am only going to say one and that is to raise my self-esteem and accept myself so that I don't care what people think of me.

So I gave you a full Amy chapter! [cue balloons and party noises] there will only be one(short-sorry) chapter left. But then we have book 3!!! Truthfully I am really looking forward to writing book 3, 4 and 5 because there are some interesting(hopefully?) plot points, so look forward to that!

This is turning into a long authors note, but just remember you only have one week left for the contest! And I feel quite sad because I only have two entries :( but I know of one coming(hopefully).

Hugs and butterfly kisses,

~Elise
