Prologue

The Potters were a happy little family. Two loving parents, Lily and James, with their two darling children, Harry and Sarah. They lived in a quaint, two-storey home in Godric's Hollow. They considered themselves ordinary when, in fact, they weren't ordinary; they were wizards.

Everything in the Potters' life was going swimmingly, until the Dark Wizard, Lord Voldemort, targeted the Potter children.

It was a stormy night on October 31st, and James Potter was pacing in the living room. His mind filled with worry. Had he put his faith in the right person?

He had made his best friend, Sirius Black, his Secret Keeper after the most famous wizard, Albus Dumbledore, had hid the Potter's away. But James was paranoid about the situation, he didn't believe that they were safe against Lord Voldemort.

Meanwhile, Lily Potter was upstairs in the nursery, playing with the children, to keep their minds off the storm.

Lily thought about Lord Voldemort too. What if he broke through the protection charm surrounding their home and killed Harry and Sarah?

Lily got up from the floor, picked up a quill and wrote a letter, just in case he did get through:

Albus,

Before it is too late, I want Harry and Sarah to be taken to safety if James and I die. If we are to die, please send Harry to my sister Petunia and Sarah to Remus and Amelia Lupin. I know they will be separated, but I feel it will be the best thing for them. They might meet when they go to Hogwarts.
Thank you,

Lily

She sealed the letter and sent it off to Albus with her owl, Swoops. She watched anxiously as the bird flew away into the night.

Lily sighed as she tuned back to the children playing happily.

Downstairs, James was still pacing. He'd thrown his wand onto the couch, and it buried away into the pillows.

There was a creak outside. James peeked through the window and saw a shadowy figure moving through the fierce winds.

"Lily!" He called up the stairs. "He's here! Take the kids and go, I'll fight him off!"

Lily scrambled to the doorway to see what was going on. Lord Voldemort was here? She had to leave, to save Harry and Sarah, but she couldn't leave James behind.

"I can't leave you!" She cried, a tear falling down her cheek.

"Lily, go!" James yelled, as they both heard the click of the front door unlocking. How did he get through the charm?

James was panicking, he couldn't win. No one can win against Voldemort. He didn't even have his wand.

Lily shut the door and locked it. She knew it would be no good, but it might buy her time.

Harry and Sarah just continued playing. They had no idea what was happening. They were oblivious.

Lily pulled out her wand. She had to protect them. She waved her wand over Sarah first. No harm will come to her.

As she turned to Harry, green light flashed from underneath the door. Lily screamed, dropping her wand, tears streaking her face.

No. She thought. James can't be dead.

Without a second thought, Lily picked up both the children and dropped them into one of the cribs. She knelt down beside the crib.

"I love you," she whispered, as the door banged open.

The cloaked figure strode in.

"Please," Lily whispered. "Please, don't hurt them."

"Stand aside, you silly girl," The figure said in a low, evil whisper.

"Please. Please don't, take me instead. Anything but the children."

The figure raised a white hand and yelled, "Avada Kedavra!"

Another jet of bright green light hit Lily straight in the chest. She screamed once more before her body hit the floor with a thud.

Harry began to cry, while Sarah was completely oblivious. Why had the figure made their mother fall to the floor? Was she going to get back up?

The figure stepped over the lifeless body and stood by the crib. The children looked up.

Beneath the cloak, the figure smiled, as he raised the wand once more. He pointed it at the boy, he was the biggest threat. He would kill the girl after.

"Avada Kedavra!"

The jet of light hit Harry's forehead. The spell rebounded and hit Sarah's right wrist, which was outstretched. The light rebounded once more onto the figure.

The figure vanished from sight and the house was destroyed.

From that night, Harry and Sarah Potter were known as the Siblings Who Lived.
