Ch4: The Journey To Hogwarts
It's finally the last day of August and tomorrow is the day I board the Hogwarts express, ready to finally go to Hogwarts.
All month, ever since I got my supplies, I've been reading all the required books. I've practiced a few of the spells in the Standard Book of Spell and successfully learnt the spells Alohamora and Reparo. Alohamora unlocks doors and Reparo repairs things - which has become quite handy, considering I break things quite regularly being the klutz I am.
So, on the night of August 31st, I begin to pack my trunk, trying to fit in as much as I possibly can in the small trunk. I have to leave a few things behind, but it's only nine months.
The next morning I wake up way earlier than I should, being five in the morning, but I'm too excited to go back to sleep. I end up playing on the Gameboy that Dad bought Bonnie and I for Christmas last year.
After playing for an hour, I stop and go check that I've got everything in my trunk. After I check it for the third time, Bonnie wakes up.
"Morning sleepy-head," I say happily, skipping over to her bed.
"Whoa," Bonnie says, sitting up. "How long have you been up?"
"Oh I've been up since five," I shrug. "Are you excited? We finally get to go to Hogwarts!"
"Oh my gosh, yes!" Bonnie almost squeals, jumping out of bed. "We have to get ready!"
"The train doesn't leave until eleven," I groan. "That's ages away."
Bonnie groans. "What are we going to do while we wait?"
I shrug. "Have you even packed your trunk?" I ask absent-mindedly.
"No!" She says worriedly, and she runs straight over to her open trunk laying empty at the foot of her bed.
I let out a laugh as I help her grab some clothes out of the dresser. The two of us run around the room, picking up random things that are Bonnie's and stuff them into her trunk. Just as we're forcing the top of the trunk down to close it, I can smell the scent of bacon and eggs wafting into the bedroom from down the hall.
Smiling to each other, Bonnie and I race down the hall to the kitchen, where we find Dad at the stove, flipping some eggs.
"Morning, Dad!" Bonnie and I say in sync, as we sit down on the bar stools at the bench.
"Good morning, girls," he says, cheerily. "You two ready to go to Hogwarts?"
Bonnie and I nod eagerly, as Dad gets out three plates and dishes up breakfast. We quickly stuff it down, eager to get to Kings Cross Station to catch the Hogwarts Express.
"Girls, slow down," Dad says. "We don't have to leave for another two hours."
"But I'm too excited!" I groan.
Dad chuckles as he takes our plates and we rush back to our bedroom. I get some casual clothes left in the dresser to wear on the way to Hogwarts; a simple white t-shirt with a pink heart and denim shorts. After realising that I'd put all my shoes into my trunk, I ruffle through it to find some simple white converse. I throw my hair up into a regular ponytail, before going down to the living room to watch TV before we leave for Kings Cross at nine-thirty.
We end up driving all the way to London, which is a one hour drive. We get to the station at ten-thirty; half an hour before the train leaves.
We pack our trolleys, loading on our trunks and owls, and we head off towards platforms nine and ten. To actually get to Platform Nine and Three-Quarters, you have to run at the Platform ten wall. It sounds really simple, but standing in front of the wall right now terrifies me. What if I crash?
"Alright, Bonnie," Dad says. "You first."
I see Bonnie brace herself, before the runs at the wall, careful not to let any Muggles see. She successfully disappears through the wall.
It's my turn now. I wheel my trolley to face the wall. Without any other thought, I run at the wall, bracing myself for a crash. But it doesn't come. I feel a slight tingling feeling as I go through the wall, and emerge on the other side to a crowded platform of young witches and wizards with their parents.
I wheel my trolley over to where Bonnie is standing triumphantly while we wait for Dad, who comes out the wall moments later.
We take our luggage to the back of the train, and we kiss Dad goodbye as Bonnie and I head onto the train, each with a small bag on us. As soon as we find an empty compartment, we dump our bags there and head into the corridor to stick our heads out the window.
Soon, the platform begins to thin as students board the train, leaving their parents behind. Some parents are even crying. Must be first years as well.
As the doors all close, I hear a whistle blow and the train starts to move. Bonnie and I wave our arms out the window, waving goodbye to Dad who is smiling sadly.
The train starts to pick up speed, and I give Dad one last wave, before he is out of sight as we round a corner. Everyone in the corridor start to disperse into the compartments, so Bonnie and I follow, going into our own, empty compartment.
I'm surprised no one is already in here. Bonnie and I sit alone in the compartment in silence, and I start to wonder which compartment Harry would be in.
I announce to Bonnie that I'm going to search for Harry, and she agrees to come with me. This train is huge, it'll take forever to find him, but we search anyway.
We peek into each compartment in our carriage, with no luck, until we reach the very last compartment, in which I see Harry, sitting with some red headed boy.
I slide open the compartment door. "Hey, Harry!"
He look over to me. "Sarah!" He says, jumping up. "It's great to see you!"
I go over and hug him. "It's great to see you too!"
The red headed boy coughs loudly. "Er - who's this, Harry?"
"Oh, hi," I say politely. "I'm Sarah, Harry's sister."
He gapes at me. "You're Sarah Potter?"
I nod. "And you are?"
"Oh, um, Ron Weasley," he says.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Ron," I say, holding out a hand for him to shake.
"And who's that?" He asks, pointing to Bonnie.
"I'm Bonnie, Sarah's sister - well, God-Sister really..." Bonnie says awkwardly.
Bonnie and I take a seat across from Harry and Ron. Ron starts to tell us all about his family and him growing up in the wizarding world, just like Bonnie and I.
"Wait," I say. "You have five brothers?"
"Yep," Ron says miserably. "And one sister. Ginny's starting next year, whereas my other brothers are all either finished or above me."
"Oh, cool," I say. I turn to Harry. "How was the rest of the summer at the Dursley's?"
"Oh it was so fun," he says sarcastically, and we both burst into giggles.
"Hey, Harry, Sarah...Bonnie," Ron says. "You want to see spell Fred and George taught me to turn Scabbers yellow?"
"Sure!" Harry says, while Bonnie slightly nods.
"Um, who are Fred and George and what's 'Scabbers'?" I ask.
"Fred and George are my twin older brothers. Mind you, they're troublemakers. I'm pretty sure they got detention on their first day at Hogwarts! And Scabbers is my rat," Ron says, and he pulls out a very old looking, fat rat out of his pocket.
Ugh, I hate rats.
"Oh...show us the spell," I say, wondering if the spell will actually work.
Ron reaches into his pocket again, and pulls out a very worn out wand. That can't be a new wand from Diagon Alley.
"Sunshine-" Ron starts, before he is cut off by the compartment door opening rather abruptly.
A girl with long, bushy brown hair walks in, wearing her full uniform, looking flustered. "Has anyone seen a toad?" She asks. "A boy named Neville's lost one."
"No," Ron says rudely.
The girl notices Ron's wand out. "Oh! Are you doing magic? Let's see then," she says.
Ron clears his throat. "Sunshine, daisies, butter mellow, turn this stupid fat rat yellow!"
The spell doesn't work, the fat grey rat just squirms in his lap. He looks at it, rather upset that it didn't work.
The girl lets out a laugh. "Are you sure that's a real spell? Well, it's not very good, is it? I've tried a few simple ones myself, and they've all worked for me."
So comes over and sits beside me, pulling her own wand out of her own pocket, to face Harry, who goes slightly pink. "For example," she says, pointing her wand at his glasses. "Oculus Reparo!"
I smile. That's one of the spells I learnt during the summer!
Hermione just stares at Harry for a moment, after the spell works, looking flabbergasted. "Holy crickets! You're Harry Potter!" She says, she then turns to me, quickly recognising me. "And you must be Sarah Potter! I'm Hermione Granger, and you two are?" She asks, gesturing to Bonnie and Ron.
"Erm, Ron Weasley," Ron says, stuffing a chocolate frog in his mouth.
"Pleasure," Hermione says, screwing up her nose in disgust. "And you?"
"Bonnie Lupin," Bonnie mutters.
"Right. Well, you all best change into your robes, I expect we'll be arriving soon," she says, getting up and walking out of the compartment. Just before she goes down the corridor, she turns back to us. "By the way," she says to Ron. "You have dirt on your nose, did you know?"
She then closes the compartment door and walks off down the corridor. Ron sighs frustrated.
"She's mental, that one. I'm telling you," he says.
"Hey!" I say, defending her. "She wasn't that bad. All she did was point out that it wasn't a real spell, and performed one. You know what? I'm going to go sit with her, she seems nice," I say, before I get up, grabbing my bag leaving the compartment without another word.
Ron shouldn't have said that about Hermione, she must just be really smart.
As I'm walking down the corridor, the same way Hermione went, I hear the compartment door open, and Bonnie comes out.
"Sarah, wait up!" She says, catching up to me.
"Sorry," I say. "Ron was just a bit rude."
"I agree," she says.
Together, Bonnie and I look for Hermione's compartment, until we find find her sitting glumly in a compartment with three other boys.
I knock lightly on the door, before sliding it open. "Hey," I smile.
"Oh, hi, Sarah, Bonnie," Hermione says gloomily. "I heard what Ron said after I left."
"Don't listen to him," I say kindly, sitting beside her. "He's a prat."
She just smiles at me. "By the way, this is Neville, Seamus and Dean," she says, gesturing to the other three boys in the compartment.
"Hi," one of the boys. He is dark skinned, with dark brown hair and big brown eyes. "I'm Dean."
"Hello, I'm Seamus," says the second boy, who is pale skinned with sandy-blond hair and hazel eyes. He also has a sweet Irish accent.
"I'm Neville," the third boy says sadly. He's a larger boy with dark brown hair who looks extremely nervous. "Have you happened to see my toad?
"No, sorry," I say to Neville. "I'm Sarah, by the way. Sarah Potter..."
"Sarah Potter?" Seamus gapes.
"Yep," I say. "And this is my sister Bonnie."
"Hi," Bonnie waves, and I laugh.
For the rest of the train trip, Hermione, Bonnie, Neville, Dean, Seamus and I talk about our families and about ourselves. They all seem very nice, I don't know what Ron thought when he said Hermione was mental, she's just very smart. She's a Muggle-Born and didn't know she was a witch until she got her letter. And just like me, she's read all the books in time for school.
As we're talking, I notice that the others have all got their robes on, except for Bonnie and I. We quickly excuse ourselves so we can go change into our own robes.
Once we finish, a voice echoes through the train, "We will be reaching Hogwarts in five minutes' time. Please leave your luggage on the train, it will be taken up to the school separately."
I feel my stomach lurch with nerves. It's quite nerve-wracking to start at a new school, although I've never had to do it until now.
I look out the window to see us passing a deep forest under a now dark sky. The train is starting to slow down. Bonnie andI make our way back to Hermione's compartment, and when we get there, the train has slowed to a stop.
Together, Hermione, Bonnie, Neville, Dean, Seamus and I join the crowd filling up the corridor to get out the door and onto the platform.
Once I hit the platform, I start to shiver from the cold night air. It's not usually this cold in the summer, but I guess it's Autumn now. Not knowing what to do, the six of us start to follow the crowd of older students, before I hear a familiar voice say,
"Firs' years! Firs' year over here!" It's Hagrid.
I grab onto Bonnie and Hermione arms and tug them in the direction of where I see Hagrid standing, holding a large yellow lantern.
Dean, Seamus and Neville follow us over to where Hagrid is calling the first years. When he sees us, his face beams.
"All righ' there, Sarah and Bonnie?" He says to us, as we come to stand in front of him.
We nod, before he says, "C'mon, follow me - any more firs' years? No, let's go!"
Together, all the first years follow Hagrid and his lantern down the platform so we can go to the giant castle.

A/N
I must say, first up, these chapters are quite short to what I'm used to writing for book 3, wow. Book 3 chapters are like 7,000 words and I need to shorten them but, eh.
Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the chapter and I'm sticking to uploading once every two days, maybe and extra one in between if I'm feeling nice.
Questions:
1. Describe yourself in one word, and only one word-it's not really a question but oh well. (Complicated)
2. Do you watch any Youtubers? If so, who?(if I name all of them, this A/N would be going on for pages. So, if you want to know, they're all in my bio)
3. What's your favourite childhood show?(probably either Hannah Montana or The Wiggles-only Australians would know who they are, unless you do know and you're from somewhere else...)
Peace out guys, love you!
~Elise
