Ch3.Diagon Alley
I can't sleep.
Questions rack my brain.
'How did I not realise?'
Well, there were no pictures from before I was two, were there? Only one which Dad, well Remus, showed me a little while ago.
Although I have have the same eye colour as my mum did, well god-mother, I look nothing like them.
And 'why didn't dad tell me?'
I am so angry at him for it. I get it, it wouldn't be easy to tell me, but he could have at least let me grow up as a Potter, right?
Another voice in my head says 'But then he'd have to explain Harry...'
Too true.
But, on the flip-side, I'm going to Diagon Alley tomorrow to get my school things and hopefully meet Harry!
It felt like hours have passed until I finally doze off.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Sarah? Sarah?"
I am woken up by my dad shaking me.
"Sarah? Come on, we're going to Diagon Alley, remember?"
My eyes snap open.
I look at the clock; 7:15.
I might be meeting Harry today!
"Thanks da-" I start to say but he's already left the room.
Bonnie isn't in the room either so I guess she is downstairs as well.
Bonnie's also really annoyed at dad too because, well, he didn't tell her either. So Bonnie and I have been avoiding him.
I feel a bit bad about it because he probably feels guilty about not telling us, and that it was Professor Dumbledore, not him.
I get dressed into my favourite blue tank top with denim shorts and blue converse.
I brush my hair, quickly out it into a ponytail and I race downstairs to get breakfast by 7:30.
"Honey, slow down. We don't have to leave until nine-"
"Yeah but I want to get there as soon as possible," I say, through mouthfuls of bacon.
By 8:30, Bonnie, Dad and I are standing in front of the fireplace as we are using floo Powder to get to Diagon Alley.
"Alright, you first Sarah." Dad says.
I step into the fireplace, grabbing some powder on the way.
I've only ever used floo powder a few times before, but I know what to do.
I have to say where I am going (in this case The Leaky Cauldron as I have to go there first), chuck the powder at my feet and keep my elbows tucked in so I don't go through the wrong grate.
"The Leaky Cauldron!" I yell as I throw the powder at my feet.
I am used to the strange spinning sensation where there is a loud roaring in my ears as I see the blurred stream of fireplaces and the rooms beyond.
SMACK!
I land face-first onto the cold stone floor of the leaky cauldron.
I stand up slowly, my knees hurting from the impact. I look around.
I've only ever been in the Leaky Cauldron once when I was eight, not long before mum died.
It is a normal, if you can call a magical place normal, bar. It has wooden tables and chairs set up all around the room, a large bar where people are ordering drinks, stairs leading up into the guest rooms and a door leading into a small courtyard where the entrance to Diagon Alley is, as Dad had told me once before.
Ah, here is Bonnie, Dad following close behind.
"Well, come on girls," He says as he leads us to the door into the courtyard.
Dad walks up to the brick wall that is that is standing before us.
"Stand back, girls." He says taking out his wand.
He taps the wall three times muttering "Three up...two across..."
Suddenly the brick that he had touched, quivers in the middle, a small hole appears-it grows bigger and bigger.
Moments later a large archway stands before us leading to...
"Diagon Alley!" Bonnie exclaims.
Diagon Alley is awesome!
It has heaps of little shops, all facing into a large alleyway full of people looking in windows and shopping.
There is one large, white building down the end.
Gringotts, the wizard bank.
Wizarding money is so much different from muggle money. There are only three types of coins: Galleons, Sickles and Knuts. Seventeen Sickles to a Galleon and twenty-nine Knuts to a Sickle. It's easy enough to remember.
We walk up to to the other end of the alley to Gringotts.
I have never been inside Gringotts before.
Inside there are heaps of little... things. Goblins.
We walk up to the front desk where there is a goblin writing.
Dad coughs.
"We'd like to make two trips-" He says.
I look at dad.
Two trips?
"-To the Potter's vault and my own," Dad says definitely.
Ohh, so my parents had a vault.
Dad hands over two keys. Obviously mine and his.
The goblin takes the keys and leave.
Why?
My question is answered moments later when the goblin comes back with another goblin.
"Griphook will now take you to your vaults."
"Thank you," Dad says quickly.
We follow the small goblin to a cart that had seven seats. One for the goblin and the rest for passengers.
As soon as we sit down, the cart lurches foreword and we take off at such a great speed that makes me feel queasy.
We finally reach a stop at vault 687.
My vault?
"Key please," The small goblin, Griphook, says with a squeaky voice.
I let out a gasp as the door opens.
Inside there are mounds of gold, silver and bronze.
"This is all mine?" I ask, surprised
"Well, yours and your brother's," Dad answers as he scoops some of each into a small bag.
"This should last you the year," he says handing me the bag.
We get back into the cart and take off to Dad and Bonnie's vault. Number 432.
It doesn't have as much gold as mine but it has enough.
We get back to Diagon Alley at around 11:30.
"Kid's, I think we might grab a drink before you get your school stuff alright?" Dad says.
"Okay," Bonnie and I answer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We walk back into the Leaking Cauldron again.
Wow, it is so loud!
Dad goes and orders our drinks as we sit down at a small table near the back door.
Not long after dad sits down, a man comes over with three butterbeers.
Wow they look so good. I've never tasted butterbeer before.
They taste as good as they look. Warm and foamy.
Just as we are about to leave, the door opens at the front and the whole pub goes quiet.
I look over.
Standing there is Harry Potter.
My brother.
