Ch12. The Midnight Duel
*Edited*
"You're kidding right?"
Amy, Hermione, Bonnie and I are eating dinner. I had just finished telling them what happened once Harry and I left the field with Professor McGonagall.
"Seeker?" Amy asks. "But first years never make the house teams-you must be the youngest Seeker in about-"
"-a century, according to McGonagall," I say, shovelling potato pie in my mouth.
"Your just lucky you weren't expelled-what you did was very dangerous-" Hermione says.
"I know," I say.
Amy and Bonnie are both so amazed that during dinner that are just gaping at me.
"Well done," A voice says in my ear.
Fred.
"Wood's just told us. We're on the team too-"
"Beaters-"
"It our job to make sure that you don't get hit by a bludger-"
"Anyways, we gotta go," George says and they leave.
"Having your last meal, Potter?" Says a drawling voice.
Malfoy.
Git.
"When's the train coming to take you back home?" He sneers.
"Your a lot braver now that you've got you goons with you," I say coldly.
I notice Harry and Ron sit down beside us, obviously seeing Malfoy.
Malfoy takes no notice of them.
"I'd take you anytime on your own," he says. "Tonight, if you want. Wizards duel. Wands only-no contact. What's the matter? Never heard of a wizards duel?"
"Of course I have, you blithering idiot. But I have better things to do than to meet you in the dead of night," I say.
"Scared to get caught, Potter?" He sneers.
"Nope. Like I said, I've got better things to do."
"I'll do it then," Harry says.
No, Harry, no. Don't be an idiot.
"I'm his second, who's yours?" Ron says, backing Harry up.
Malfoy looks at Crabbe and Goyle, sizing them up.
"Crabbe," he says. "Midnight, trophy room. It's always unlocked."
Once Malfoy leaves, I turn to Harry.
"Harry, you are such an idiot. He's obviously not going to go. He's just trying to trick you so you'll get caught. Filch will probably catch you before you even get to the trophy room anyway."
Harry, not listening, turns to Ron.
"What's a wizards duel?" He asks. "And what do you mean, you're my second?"
"Well, a wizards duel is a...duel, but with wands. And a second is there to take over if you die," Ron says casually.
Seeing the horrified look on Harry's face, I say, "Harry, people only die in proper duels. The most you and Malfoy will do is send sparks at each other, you don't know enough spells. Like I said, he probably won't go anyway. But please don't go. You will get into heaps of trouble."
Harry and Ron go on to talk about what they'll do tonight.
I sigh, "lets go," I say to Amy, Hermione and Bonnie.

I go to bed at eleven that night after giving up telling Harry and Ron not to go to meet Malfoy.
I wake up at around one a.m to find Hermione not in her bed.
She's probably in the bathroom or something.
I get up to get a glass of water from the jug that sits in the window sill.
The door creaks open.
It's Hermione.
"Where were you?" I whisper.
"Uh, no where," She whispers back.
"I'm serious, where were you?" I ask again.
"I'm serious, no where," She says as she gets into her bed.
"Were you with a boy?" I ask.
She doesn't say anything.
I soon hear he slight snores to say that she's asleep.
I guess I'll just have to find out tomorrow.

On Saturday morning, I wake up early as usual, and go down to breakfast with Amy.
Half-way through breakfast I remember something.
"I forgot to go to Hagrid's!" I say out loud.
"What?" Amy asks, clearly confused.
"I was supposed to go to Hagrid's yesterday!" I say again.
"Well, you can go this morning, right?" Amy proposes.
After breakfast I race down to Hagrid's with Amy, not bothering to get Harry, Ron or Hermione.
We get down there and I hear footsteps running behind me.
It's Bonnie.
"Oh, hey Bonnie," I say.
"Hey," she puffs. "Why didn't you guys wait for me? Or at least tell me you were coming here?"
"Oh, sorry," I say. "We, I mean I, didn't want to wait for Harry, Ron or Hermione."
"O-kay?" She says.
"Well, Harry and Ron went to go meet Malfoy last night, and Hermione went somewhere too, but she won't tell me. It would just be awkward," I explain.
"Alright," Bonnie says.
I knock on Hagrid's door.
I hear a dogs bark and heavy footsteps as they come to the door.
The door opens.
"Hullo, Sarah, Bonnie. Who's this?" Hagrid asks.
"Hey, Hagrid. This is Amy."
"Hullo Amy. Come inside."
We go in. It only has one room. Hams and Pheasants hang from the ceiling, a copper kettle is boiling on the open fire and there is a large bed with a patchwork quilt.
"This is cosy," I say.
"Make yerselves at home," Hagrid says.
Amy, Bonnie and I sit at the small table in the corner.
"So, why didn't yeh come yesterday?"
"Sorry Hagrid. I was a bit busy. First I find out that I'm on the Gryffindor Quidditch team as Seeker("Well done," Hagrid says) then I'm trying to stop Harry and Ron from meeting Malfoy."
"Meetin' Malfoy?" Hagrid asks.
"Yeah. Malfoy challenged Harry to a duel and Ron went with him."
"Ah. Well, they're safe, right? And they didn't get caught by Filch?" He asks.
"Nope, they're fine," Bonnie says.
We a talk for a while(I am delighted when Hagrid called Filch a git) until we reach Snape.
"But he seemed to really hate me," I say.
"Rubbish!" Hagrid says. "Why should he?"
I can't help but think otherwise.
I see the Daily Prophet lying on the table.
"Hagrid, can I look at this?" I ask.
"Yeah, sure," He says and he starts talking with Bonnie and Amy.
I read the article on the cover:
GRINGOTTS BREAK-IN LATEST.
Investigations continue into the break-in at Gringotts on 1 August, wildly believed to be the work of dark witches and wizards, unknown.
Gringotts goblins today insisted that nothing had been taken. The vault that was searched had in fact been emptied that very same day.
"But we're not telling you what was in there, so keep your noses out if you know what's good for you." Said a Gringotts spokes goblin this afternoon.
Hang on-
"Hagrid! That Gringotts break-in happened the day after my birthday. It might have happened when we were there!" I exclaim.
Hagrid grunts and offers me another rock cake.
'The vault in question was in fact emptied that very same day," I wonder what the thieves were looking for.

Amy, Bonnie and I walk back to the common room to find Harry and Ron talking in hushed voices.
Hermione is no where to be seen.
"What was it standing on?
"...but what was it guarding?"
"I still can't believe that they let a thing like that locked up in a school."
"It all fits though. Hagrid and Dumbledore knew that someone was going to steal that package from Gringotts, so they took it out. That's probably what it's guarding."
"It's either really valuable or really dangerous; maybe both."
"I just wish we could get back at Malfoy."
I go and in front of them.
"Spill it," I say.
They shake their heads.
"Tell me."
"Go away," Harry says.
"Tell me," I say, not leaving until I get answers.
"No!" Ron says.
"Tell me," I say again.
"There's nothing to tell," Harry says.
"Tell me."
"Fine, remember the time when you two went to Gringotts?"
"Ron!" Harry says.
"It wasn't both of us, but go on," I say.
"Well, Hagrid took out a little package from vault 713, he obviously thought that it was going to steal it that day-"
Harry sighs.
"And when Harry and I went to go meet Malfoy, he wasn't there and Hermione followed us..."
Ron goes on to tell me all about how they fell for Malfoy's bait(I was right!), and almost got caught by Filch. Also they somehow wandered into a room with a three-headed dog and now Hermione isn't talking to them.
I sigh and leave.
I finally got the truth.
