Chapter 9

What was happening? Sarah was in a sea of blackness, and she couldn't feel her way out. Then she saw them. Her mother, Laura. Her brothers, Nathaniel and Cooper. She ran towards them. All she wanted was to hug them. When she got closer, they started to fade, and when she reached out to touch them, they disappeared entirely. Then they were behind her. This time, she went slower, trying to keep this picture in her head. Then they began to change. They were covered in blood, screaming in pain. Calling for her. She tried to get to them, to help them, but her feet were planted on the ground, she couldn't move. All she could do was scream their names and cry her eyes out.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sarah woke up screaming. It was almost routine now. She pushed herself up to sitting, trying to ignore the sickening pit in her stomach. When she pushed the door open, she expected to see Bucky up and alert looking at her. Instead, she saw the complete opposite, he was sound asleep, his chest rising and falling slowly. He looked better then he had last night. That was definitely something to be thankful for. She slowly walked out of the room. Her dad was gone, probably left for S.H.I.E.L.D. work. So she went to the balcony. There, she was able to get a beautiful view of the city. The people below that were actually awake at 5:27 in the morning looked like tiny specks from where she was standing. They lived on one of the top levels of the building, there was only a few floors above them. Below her was some ledges, a not-so-busy street, and a building roof. Then, she decided to sneak out. She really didn't know why she was being so stealthy, as Bucky probably wouldn't stop her. She went down a few levels. There was an open balcony there. She climbed over the railing, taking a deep breath. Then, she climbed back onto the other side. If her father knew she did this, he would kill her. She then ran at the ledge, throwing herself over the rails at the last possible second. She hit the roof of the next building, some random office, rolling off the edge and onto the rooftop. She cringed as a pain shot up her side, but she ignored it. Sometimes, it came as a relief to her, and today was one of those days.
Her father thought it was dangerous, and he wasn't wrong. Once, she missed the ledge, and almost fell off if she hadn't grabbed something. Yeah, her arms hurt and her heartbeat raced, but it was still worth it to her. Luckily this time, she had made it. How she was going to explain the scrape on her leg to her dad she didn't know, she'd make something up. Then, she began to run, as fast as she could. When she reached the end of the rooftop, she jumped down it, landing on the ledge. It was like dancing with death, she was over 19 stories up, and the wind was blowing harder then usual, meaning her balance would be a bit off, but she didn't care, not like she could just climb up the building. There was no going back now. She jumped down to the next ledge, scaring the man working at the office window where she had just jumped from.She wondered what people thought when they saw something like that. What might be running through their head at that moment. Never had she gotten much attention from what she considered a small feat. Finally, when she was low enough to the ground, she jumped one last time from the building to the concrete sidewalk some people were walking on. To them, she appeared out of nowhere, which seemed incredible to them. She said nothing, and once again broke into a run, headed for the underground parking structure. She dropped down the small slit in the ceiling and dropped down, quickly running off the road before she got hit by a car. To her, this was fun, and took away her stress. Soon, she would have to go back, she had to keep an eye on the killer currently living in her house. She began to walk back.
(Bucky's POV)
I had seen it all. Her jumping around, and climbing down buildings like some ninja-assassin. How could she do all that? I'm not really a fan of heights. Exactly the reason why I can't really be sure, maybe it would come to me one day. I had followed her out, I had barely noticed she left. I didn't go her route, but I stayed far enough away so she hopefully didn't notice me, but close enough so I could see what she was doing. I feel something towards her. The need to keep her safe. It was all I ever knew, whoever had control of me always had me protecting someone. But I don't feel as if I am forced to. I willingly want to. Not that she really needed it, but she lost all but one member of her family. That was painful.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

He chose to make up for that, and filled in the empty space she had needed to be filled ever since that day she had lost just about everything. They can help each other. They can be a sort of family. Unbreakable. Unbeatable. Or so he thought.
