Chapter 8
Then came night.
Sarah was a little uneasy. She knew Bucky would have the cover of darkness if he tried anything. She wasn't planning on sleeping tonight. Of for the nights to come. What came across as strange to her was the fact that he had been open about himself. He told her things even her dad wouldn't tell her. Maybe he wanted to get her to think he was trustworthy. She didn't know what to think about him at the moment.
She had offered her bed to him, and stayed in the closet. Not that she minded. To her it was her quiet place, a place she could breathe and think about things. Right now she needed a brain break. So much had been thrown on her at once, all in one day. Kind of like when.... She immediately diverted her attention to a different topic, one that wouldn't make her cry.
Bucky screamed. Not that loudly, but he sounded like he was going to cry, or kill. How long had she been asleep? She opened the door to find him sitting up. His eyes were glossy, and tears ran down his cheeks. She could tell he was trying to stay silent. He then looked up. She felt like she should back away, that she should run away and hide. She was never good with comforting people. For some reason, she began to walk up to him, slowly. Her mind was telling her to run before he did something, but she couldn't stop herself from moving forward.
"Are you okay?" She hardly realized the words had left her mouth until he responded.
"I just... had a nightmare." He replied, struggling to hold back his emotions. She wanted to tell him it was okay, that she got them too. That he could just let it all out, that there would be nobody to try to take his mind again. Or his friends. She brought him a box of tissues instead. He looked at her. As if he knew what she really thought of him, that she was being extremely cautious. "Thank you, for everything" He looked up and smiled at her. After all he had lost, he still smiled. How? She simply gave a quick nod, then went back to her 'room' and shut the door. She heard him turn over. She thought he was asleep again. So she did what usually calmed her down. She began to sing. It was a song her mother used to sing to her when she was little. No, it wasn't really fit for nighttime, but it was beautiful and she liked it. She thought nobody was listening. Oh how wrong she was. Bucky had heard her.

(Bucky's POV)
She sounded so beautiful. What a sweet little girl she was. I knew that song somehow, I had heard it before from someone else. I didn't know, or just couldn't remember exactly who it was though. I tried not to think about my nightmere, but it was impossible. It all came to me in little flashes. Steve died. I had killed him with my own hands. I shook the feeling, but it had been so real.It had almost made me forget that he wasn't dead, that I had saved him. Instead, I tried to think back on the last words of the song. 'It's only a nightmare, and soon we'll be set free' I felt like my life was a never-ending nightmare. It simply stretched on forever. Maybe now I could make better memories. And Steve. How could I ever truly face him again? I tried to kill him! No, it wasn't me, but I thought Steve wouldn't trust me ever again. I went back to sleep, thinking about what I would say to Steve if he ever saw him again. Her voice put me to sleep, and seemingly kept the nightmares at bay.
