Chapter 3

Sarah hated this feeling. The feeling that she knew something was coming, but she was powerless to stop it. The woman continued up the stairs, at a slow pace. To tease them, to simply pro lounge their agony. Sarah could tell her mother had already given up.

But she hadn't.

She ran to the corner of the room they were in. She helped everyone into the closet, to hide them. She then grabbed the gun from her father's bag. He always kept it there, just in case of an emergency. She counted this as an emergency. Who wouldn't? It was loaded, but there were no more bullets, she only had four shots.

She couldn't miss. If she missed, they were all dead. No doubt about it.

She raised the gun, pointing it at the door, prepared for it to open, with the lady behind it. Who even was she, and why was she here? What did she have against them? Did her dad know her? Did they meet before and have a fight that wasn't finished? She could only guess.

The door rattled on its hinges. Sarah had nearly forgotten she had locked it tight. This only gave her about ten more seconds, merely postponing the inevitable.

The door burst open.

She fired.

The first shot sank into the women's shoulder, coming as a bit of a shock.

The next shot hit her in the leg.

Then the chest.

Then her heart.

Her last bullet. At least it didn't go to waste. The women was falling and hit the ground with a thud. Sarah didn't realize that the women had a gun too. She wasn't the only one that shot. Her own shoulder burned, but she ignored the pain for now. Because she knew something else was wrong.

She could smell smoke.

She knew the stove was off.

They weren't any better off than before.

Something exploded downstairs.

The gas tank?

Or was it the stove?

There was no time to waste.

Sarah rushed to the window, bringing her mother and brothers behind her.

The flames came closer.

She pushed her mother and brothers toward the window, to go first.

Her mother carried her brothers down.

The fire was right in front of her, licking at her hands.

Another explosion.

Being thrown by some invisible force.

Looking up at the night sky.

The house, burning brightly.

Darkness.

(Note to the people who read this) Hi again! Thanks for reading chapter 3! Hope you enjoyed it! Still low on ideas, so comment some below! See you in chapter 4. Maybe then I'll finally finish the cliffhanger. And yes, I might bring the Winter Soldier in on this! (Just a hint of what might come!)
