The senator
September 1950
With summer coming to an end and the Senate opening up again, Jack had less and less time. He made sure he had all of his belongs with him to head back to D.C.
He kissed his mother and his father goodbye and then headed out the door. It was brisk and cool outside. Fall was defiantly coming.
"You forgot one thing!" That voice came from the side of the building. Jack was confused as he thought he said goodbye to everyone.
Bobby came running outside with shorts on and hugged Jack. Bobby loved Jack, they were super close. Bobby left him and ran back to the house. He then came back and said "whoever that girl you've been thinking about and calling at 2 am in the morning, give her this".
With that he opened his hand to reveal a ring with five stones encrusted in it.
Jack was taken aback. He didn't know anyone had heard his phone calls to Sarah.
"Oh you think I didn't know?" He asked. "You've been much more calmer and kinder, I guess whoever it is has softened you."
Jack smiled and sucked his teeth.
"I'm not soft" Jack shrugged.
"Not soft but your demeanor has changed, she's softened you up, you know, you're much more warmer."
Jack took in what he said and thought about it. He looked down at his hand.
"Thank you for the ring, Bobby".
"Anytime"
Jack took his bags and got in the car headed for the airport. He was flying back to D.C to get some bills passed and to see Sarah.
A Few Hours Later
As the plane landed he watched the horizon. It was beautiful he thought to himself. As the plane disembarked Jack grabbed his things and walked towards the airport. He got a cab and headed to his place in Washington D.C. He called Sarah and they talked about everything. Then the issue is politics came up.
"Have you heard about that new healthcare bill coming out?" She asked inquisitively
"Of course." Jack was obvious and to why she would ask, he's in the Senate of course he would know.
"Do you think it'll pass?"
"I think so." Jack said as he closed his legs. "A few of my constituents will be going over the bill and"
"A few of your constituents?" What do you mean"
It finally made sense to Jack. She had no idea who he was.
Jack slowly responded "I'm a senator, didn't you know?"
Sarah shock her head. "No clue."
"I see" Jack said as he flipped through the magazine in his hand.
Willing to change the topic into more interesting stuff she asked Jack to come over for dinner. " And it's the best in town!" She quipped
Jack laughed knowing that Sarah had a sense of humor and wasn't afraid to show it.
"I know it's a Friday, and you can spend the night if you like." Her voice changing, a little deeper and more serious.
Jack was surprised for the offer, he thought it was a little early to be spending nights seeing as how they started dating in June, but he yearned for company, similar to the one that Bobby had. Not even just sex but closeness with another person. He remembered the ring Bobby gave to him back in Hyannis port and planned on giving it to her. He wanted her and wanted to make things official.
He smiled and looked down at the phone receiver.
"Sure, why not. Let me pack my bag and experience that wonderful meal of yours." Jack says as he grabs one of his duffel bags from underneath his bed.
"It's a date! And maybe you can tell me all about your little Senate job?" She asked excitedly.
"Of course, but Senate is just the beginning. Sarah, only a beginning."
"Oh really?" Sarah asked liking where this conversation was going
"Really". He replied confidently.
