Everything I do is for you
January 1954
It was a New Year but Jack and Sarah were seeing less and less of each other as Jack was now a busy senator. Sarah tried to be understanding but she also wanted to be a good wife and didn't see how she can be a good wife while Jack was away all of the time. She missed his voice, his mannerisms, the way he would hold her at night and the things they would do together like play pranks on Bobby and Ethel. Yes, they would talk on the phone at night but it wasn't the same. Jack would tell her about his day and vice versa but it wasn't the same. She missed Jack and everything about him. She was trying to be nice, trying to be understanding and trying to be patient but she couldn't. But she had to admit that this is what she signed up for. She married a busy politician and this is the price she had to pay.
Jack was coming home to Hyannis Port to convince Sarah to move in with him in Georgetown. Sarah didn't know this. Sarah was just happy to see her husband after the last time she saw him which was five weeks ago.
Jack drives up to the driveway in his convertible Buick and all of the family members run up to him. All of them except Sarah.
"How are you Jack!" Exclaimed Ethel.
She embraced Jack and she smiles at her. As he hasn't seen her since the wedding.
"Happy New Year." Jack whispered
Bobby runs up to him with a football
"Jack you wanna play a game of football." Bobby asks
Jack's isn't focused however, his eyes are searching for someone. For Sarah.
"Sure, Bobby sure." He says absentmindedly. His hands clutch his luggage as Bobby and Ted help him to drag it inside the house.
"Sarah, Sarah!" Jack bellows into the hallway of the house.
Where could she be?
"I'm here." A voice calls from the first room on the left.
"Oh I've been looking for you." Jack whispers as he embraces Sarah "how are you, I missed you."
"I'm fine Jack." Sarah says but Jack can sense some tension in her voice. He looks at Sarah.
Wanting more privacy Jack closes the door.
"What's going on? I can tell somethings wrong. What is it?" Jack says
"Jack I" Sarah stops and looks around the room nervously
"No,no. I'm not doing this with you Sarah!" Jack raises his voice
Sarah sits down on the bed shocked. She's never heard Jack raise his voice.
"The one time I come home in weeks and you're all moody."
"But you asked what's wrong ..." Sarah answers
"Yes, but Sarah I can't sometimes what's going on between us." He pauses "Fine tell
me." Jack says
"I'm just upset that you are always gone, never around. We're newly married yet, we're not acting like we're married. What is this? You're always gone." Sarah admits. She feels her heart breaking, she can't take it anymore. She fed up and wants Jack to reciprocate the same feelings she has.
"I understand Sarah. Maybe you just need some rest. I think you're over thinking things. Do you want to watch television?"
Jack's says changing the subject.
"Jack, I'm here talking and pouring my heart out and here you are changing the subject. I refuse to be put aside."
Sarah grabs her nightgown to change in the bathroom attached to the guest bedroom which they are sitting in. Jack takes off his shoes and stretches out on the bed. It's been a long day.
Sarah steps out of the bathroom wearing a pink nightgown with white lace trimmings on the hem.
Sarah moves towards the lamp and grabs a glass of water that's been sitting there since the morning.
Jack gets up and holds Sarah in his arms. They hug for what seems like hours. Jack doesn't know how to express himself.
Sarah blushes, his warm skin is soft and welcoming. She missed this.
He lets go of Sarah.
"I love you and give you everything I got " he said as he sat on the bed.
Sarah finally opens up.
"I love you too but want more of your time, to be a real couple" she replied back taking her watch off and getting ready for bed. Brushing her hair back while staring in a mirror.
Jack looked up at her "You know that'll be hard, I'm aiming to be president."
"You know I respect that, but sometimes I just want you to be my man, not some big time senator, just my man". Sarah explains as she sits on the bed next to him.
"Sarah you know I love you and care for you deeply, right?"
Sarah nods and leans on Jack's shoulder and looked up at him knowingly.
"But this what I signed up for isn't it? to never see my husband. To live in different zip codes. It's not fair."
"Sarah it's not like that. I want you to move in with me.." His voices changes and he sounds more cheery. "Move in with me, to Georgetown. Let's forget about this place. Lets start a new life in Georgetown together."
Sarah is hesitant, she wants to stay in Massachusetts, but she loves Jack and is willing to do anything to be with him, even if that means traveling across state lines.
Sarah nothing but looks into Jack's blue yes with her brown eyes and smiles. "I will go anywhere with you Jack."
Jack's eyes get cheery.
"That's what I want to hear. " Jack pointed to her and smiled. "I knew I picked the right one. How did I get so lucky?"
"I don't know."Sarah says and smiles.
