Chapter Twenty-Nine

~Burdon~

We trained so hard these past few weeks. We were so good at doing things while we were blind it was as if we weren't even blind at all. But of courses we were, which is sad.
We were having a meeting right now-Werewolves of Anjustlia only. We were arguing about how we were going to take the crystal back and put it back to where it belongs. We argued about so many things that I can't even know how many things we argued about. Eventually we figured how we were going to do it. One of the best people who can do things while they're blind, without looking like they're blind, is going to pretend to be one of the servants and take the crystal back. The werewolf left and we were now waiting for the werewolf to come back.
After two weeks with no word we began to worry. We decided to investigate-we sent someone else to make sure everything was all right. That person didn't send word back and we decide to investigate it ourselves. We were packing right now. I heard someone behind me, it was Ava's footsteps. "Hi, Ava, what do you want?"
"How did you know it was me?"
"I have ears," I responded, as if that explains everything. Ava mumbled a okay. "Why are you here?"
"I just came to say good bye," replied Ava, sounding a bit sad.
I turned around as if I could still see. "Ava, I'm only going for a few weeks."
"I'll miss you."
"It will be alright, Ava."
I felt arms going around me; she hugging me and I hugged her back. I kissed her on the forehead-or what I'm pretty sure was her forehead. "I'll be back," I said.
"I'll miss you."
"I'll miss you too." I heard Ava leave after that. I finished packing. After we-my Father and I with a few other werewolves- all finished packing we left.

My stomach growled, wanting and needing food-begging for food. And I licked my lips as my dry mouth begged for glass of water or some cool liquid wanting-needing-to keep my mouth moisturize. But I was stuck in this corner-or at least I think it was the corner-of this miserable, rotten, cold cell without the ability to get out, I would've if I did. Also, it's so dark in here that I can't even see the hand in front of my face... But that could because...
He wouldn't! He couldn't! It would ruin his plan! And he only does anything if it helps out with his plan! And this would crash and burn his plan if he did such a thing.
I heard a door swung open, along with footsteps approaching me, and they halted in front of me and then the person crouched down.
"Hello, Evlât," greeted the mysterious voice. "How nice to see you." They sounded very smug. And very deep. A male. Definitely a man.
Of course they are, I scolded myself. They can see and I can't.
I didn't even bother to look up when I said, "I would say the same to you, but I can't really see you. So... Would it kill you to please turn on some lights or something? This endless darkness is really getting on my nerves."
The only thing that I got in response is the chuckling from the voice in front of me.
"Can I see your face? Know your name? Have a name to go with the face?" Might as well ask it since I'm stuck here and all.
Again the man laughed. And as soon as he finished he, rhetorically, asked, "Now what fun would that be?"
Ignoring his jest, I responded with, "It's nothing funny. Just a simple question."
"That I don't want to answer."
"Why?"
"My face has scared the few children, women, and full grown men that managed to see my face. And I rarely give out my name."
"It can't be that bad."
"It is."
"I'll be the judge of that." I hoped that he would show me his face and his name so I could put a face-and a name-to my captor.
He started chuckling again. It reminded me of a hyena. One that was coughing on a hairball that is.
"Lots of people have tried that. It never works."
"Well... it was worth a shot."
I heard him standing up from his spot in front of me. "I'll see you later, Evlât."
"Where are you going?" Hopefully you won't be back. And I could find a way out and escape.
Again the hairball hyena chuckle came-higher this time. "I'm going to check on another prisoner; and don't worry, I'll be back."
I heard him walk to the entry of my cell-four feet in front of me-and before he left I inquired, "Can you turn on the lights?"
I did not expect what he said next.
"They are on, Evlât."
"What?!"
"You're blind."
This time my head shot up. I only saw darkness. I couldn't even see the outline of objects. My thoughts were like they were in a whirlpool-all messed up and gone crazy. "What do you mean?!" I demanded.
"You can no longer see things."
"B-bu-but-" I stuttered.
And my captor slowly walked over towards me until I could feel the outline of his nose on mine. And he patted me on my head. I hated it. "Don't worry, Evlât, we'll still have plenty of work for you do."
I glared at where I thought he was. "I will never work for you!"
The man in front of me gave me a small chuckle. "That's what they all say, and they all have been in my servitude ever since." I could tell that he was smirking. I may've lost my sight, but I still could almost see him smirking-I definitely could feel it.
"Who are you and what do you want with me?"
There was a slight pause before my Captor responded, "By others I am called 'The Master.' And that's what you will call me from now on."
"And why would I do that?"
"Because you have no other choice." I was about to say something when he said, "Now I would love and stay and chat with you more, but I have to be somewhere right now." And with that I heard him slam the cell door behind him, leaving me in the corner of a cold, dark cell.

We ran all the way to the capital of the Empire: Uroobacon Palace. We stood a little ways off from the gate-to 'see' if there was someone there. Father, Malhaw, and I ran to Uroobacon-Burdenn and Ryderr didn't come because they aren't dragonriders and sometimes we need our dragon's eyes to help us see.
We were all using our dragon's eyes right now to see where the gates weakness are.
After a hour we noticed that every ten seconds a guard would change spots, but we had only ten seconds to get across and get inside, which shouldn't be that hard if we use our werewolves speeding and we have to across almost ten feet.
My Father hold up his fingers indicating how many more seconds we have until we have to run across and get inside.

Ten
Nine
I was in the position to run across.
Eight
Seven
I was definitely ready to run across.
Six
Five
I was more than ready to run across.
Four
Three
I was born ready.
Two
One

At that very second we ran across and we made it inside right before the other guard came and saw us-if it was a second later we would've been seen. We were careful not to draw attention to ourselves; we were even dressed like the servants, and carried ourselves like one too.
We walked down the halls, acting like one of the servants. Every once in a while someone glanced our way, but then looked away. The servants probably learned it's best not to question anything and just do what 'King' Jazer says.
We crossed a few halls before we stopped and changed into guards uniform. We crossed more halls before we came to the door where the crystal was. Three guards were in front of the door. We all walked right up to the guards.
"King Jazer has instructed us to take the crystal to a safer spot," said my Father, confidence was radiating off of him.
The guards hesitated, then one of them said, "Alright." One of the guards-presumably the one who said, alright-unlocking the doors. He-the guard-knows better than to make 'King' Jazer mad. The guard walked inside, got the crystal, and handed it to us. We wrapped it in some cloths.
We were walking down the hallway when someone noticed us. "What are you doing with that?" demanded a guard.
"King Jazer instructed us to take it to a safer place." The guard shrugged and walked away. We actually made it to the cave without any troubles, that is amazing.
My Father put his hands on the wall, once we got to where it looks like a dead end. Part of the stone moved away-not surprisingly. We walked, quickly, to the fountain and placed the crystal back to where it belongs.
Immediately my eyesight began to clear. My eyesight was back! It only took a few months to get it back, but at least it is finally back! Then I saw the fountain. This was the first time I actually saw the fountain-I heard about it, but I never actually saw it in person. It was absolutely beautiful. It was absolutely breathtaking. I only seen it in pictures or paintings and was way more beautiful in person than in pictures and paintings. I was so focused on the fountain that I didn't hear someone come in until someone said, "Hello." I swirled around. It was Tenter.
"Why am I not surprised to see you here?" asked my Father, rhetorically.
"Well, we're brothers after all."
"I sure that we can't use that term anymore, after you are a traitor," snapped my Father. Tenter frowned, shaking his head. "You're denying you betrayed us?" Tenter again shook his head then he shrugged.
I heard Tenter mumbled, "Nothing matters expect making my family safe and happy."
I father chuckled. "Funny because you didn't keep us safe and happy."
Tenter made a 'mmm' sound. "I meant my wife and daughter."
"Of course your vampire wife and vampire daughter you protect. But the species that actually raised you and sheltered you, you betray, makes sense."
"Whatever," said Tenter, actually rolling his eyes.
My father started growling. "You know I hate that word," snarled my Father.
Tenter rolled his eyes and had the expression that said 'I know that, that's why I said it.'
"Leave," growled my Father. Tenter actually listened to my Father and left. We waited a few seconds to make sure he actually did leave and then we left.
When we left I noticed everything was quiet.
Too quiet.
A few seconds later nothing happened, but I could feel it in my gut that something was going to happen. I heard a rumbling. Suddenly the ground underneath me crumbled away. Holding onto the ground that hasn't crumbled away and trying to pull myself up. My Father and Malhaw came running over and helped pull me up. I was about to asked what just happened when the ground underneath my Father and Malhaw crumbled away. Grabbing their hands, I pulled them up and out of the ground. We ran before anymore earth could crumbled underneath them.
We almost made it over when some vine-like things came out of the earth. The vines wrapped themselves around our ankles and around our entire bodies. The vines-like things tried to pull us back into the ground. We managed to hold our ground until more and more vines coming and and wrapping themselves around Father, Malhaw, and I. Unfortunately, we started to slid down towards the earth. Trying to get the vine-like things off of us before the vines pulled us back to the earth. Clawing at the earth to keep me from falling down into the bottomless pit. Inch by inch we were moving towards the bottomless pit in the ground.
Suddenly, what felt like spikes, sharp spikes started coming out of the vines and sticking them into our skin. Momentarily, I lost my grip on the ground and was moving towards the bottomless pit until I managed to grip on to the earth again. The vines started wrapping themselves around my hands and fingers, pulling me down to the bottomless pit. I was completely covered by the vines by now and I couldn't see anything. All I could see was the vines, nothing else, not even my own hand. I couldn't tell if I was holding onto the ground or not. I think I'm holding onto the ground, but I don't know if I am or not. I felt my head hit something-hard-and I blacked out.
