Chapter Thirty-Six

~Burdon~

When I woke up I wondered what had happened? I felt slow and groggy like I was drugged. I can't remember what happened.
Where am I? How did I get here?
I feel like I am being dragged across the floor or the ground. It took a few minutes until my mind was clearer. I heard voices and I realize that I really was being dragged across the ground.
"Do you think we gave him too much?" inquired a man that was holding me to someone else who was holding me.
"Nah, he's probably just groggy, it will wear off," assured the second man holding me.
Why am I here? I wondered.
They-whoever 'they' were-dragged me to want looked like a room. They dragged me inside the room and made me sit down in a chair.
"We found another one, sir," said the second one to whoever was sitting behind the desk.
"Which one is he?" inquired the man behind the desk.
One of the men grabbed my hand and studied my ring. I wanted to pull my hand away, but I couldn't figure out why. Plus I was really groggy at the moment.
"Crown prince," responded the man, who was studying my ring.
"Excellent!" exclaimed the man behind the desk. The man, behind the desk, stood up and walked towards me. "Do I look familiar to you?" Now that the man mentions it he does look familiar, so I nodded, yes he did look familiar. I then felt a sharp pain in my neck and everything went black.
When I was conscious again I noticed that I am in a room that looked familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time.
"Looks familiar? Do I look familiar to you?" asked the man in front of me. I nodded, yes. I felt sharp pain in my neck and everything went black.
When I woke, if I found something that looked familiar then I will feel a sharp pain in my neck. They did it multiple times until one day, when I woke up, I couldn't remember anything expect for my family and facts, and everything else I can't remember.

The Varden is in complete chaos after discovering Kar, his sons, and over a hundred soldiers are missing. Honestly, where did they go? They were here yesterday morning and they haven't been seen ever since. Oh, I hope they're okay, especially Aeri. I wouldn't know what I would do if I lost him.
"Nasha, did you find them yet?" I asked.
Nasha looked up from the map she was looking at and shook her head. "No, but don't worry, whatever happens I'm sure they will do whatever it takes to return."
"I hope so, I couldn't bear if I didn't see him again."
"Don't worry he's stubborn and will do anything to get back to you," assured Nasha.
I hope so. 'Please come back to me,' I silently begged Aeri. I remember what happened when I gave him his present:

He placed the necklace on his neck. I walked around him and adjusted the wolf tooth necklace.
"Think of me when you touch it," said I, as I adjusted the necklace.
He covered my hand-the one that was adjusting the necklace-with his, saying, "Always." He kissed me on the forehead and walked away.

That seems so long ago even thought it was a few days ago. I can still remember his smile, it just melted my heart every single time. I can't wait for him to return to me.
'Be quick in returning to me,' I said silently to Aeri.

"Burdon! Get up, I'm not being late because of you!" yelled my half-brother, Malhaw. He was shaking me, somehow it was familiar.
Of course it was! I was woken up multiple times that way, yet it was familiar in a entire different way, I thought. "All right I'm up," I said, getting up. I got dressed and left the room with my half-brother. Ugh, I was sick and tired of getting up in the morning to take my medications that will "help me get my memories back." Yeah right! If that was happening then how come I don't remember anything besides my family, facts, and a few days ago? Of course, when I argued they saying, "it's a slow process, it will take time to get all of your memories back." Oh, it was so annoying to hear that. We also couldn't leave Alagrathea until we regain our memories again, which doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon.
My Father gave us all our medication-a syringe with a purple color medication inside of it. I struck the syringe in my arm and empty the containments into my arm.
After a few minutes we got up from where we were and went to work, but not before the guards at our door made sure we had our medication in us-and the right amount. After we all passed the guards let us through.
"Do they have to do that everything morning?" I complained.
"Yes, now stop complaining and get to work."
Fine, I thought, grumpily.
We were about to go to work when someone called out for me. "Crown prince, I need to talk to you for a moment; the others may go."
A guard. Yay... I absolutely love these guards.
I turned to the guard. "What did I do now?" I complained. The guards always found something that got me into a lot of trouble and they always call me 'Crown prince.' Honestly, crown prince of what?
"Stop complaining, it's rude," criticized the guard.
Fine. There's always something I did wrong and always someone telling me "stop doing this, stop doing that." Frankly, it gets annoying after a while. I remembered my Father's rule:

Be polite and don't be rude!

That's one of many of his rules. "I'm sorry, I'll try not to complain again," I apologized.
The guard took a step closer and looked at me in the eye-I noticed that he wanted to lower his eyes, but he still held his gaze, mocking me, trying me make me feel less dominate. "No, you won't complain ever!"
I nodded, which took a lot of effort, considering that I want to pound him in the face for challenging me in such a way.
"You may go."
I ran away, running towards find my family. I found them hunting some deer which was their job to bring back food for the pack. I shifted into a wolf, which is something I figure out I could do that a few days ago-around the time I first woke up.
I leaped at a deer and managed to catch and bite its neck, cutting off its circulation, therefore killing it. I shook it a few times to make sure it was dead.
All of us had caught a deer and brought it back to the food pile then padded back to do some more hunting. We caught some more deer, rabbits and other animals. We also have to look for water, which we did. We casually walked towards the lake, which one of our multiple water source.
When we got there I noticed a hole. I resisted the temptation to go through the hole. We ran back towards the main part of Alagrathea. We brought the water to the water bucket.
Afterwards-some time later-everyone gather together and shared the food and water. Then we hunted some more, got some water, and whoever wanted it could have it. Everyone hunted multiple times through the day and fletched water. We all did that through the day.
I was in the middle of walking when I heard a voice. 'Burdon.' I turned around and no one was there. I recognized the voice, but I didn't know who it belongs to.
'It belongs to me, you silly little boy,' said the voice.
Okay, weird. Whatever just ignore it. Probably your imagination, I told myself.
'Oh, ouch! That hurts. Why do you hate me now?'
Ignore it and it will go away.
'Ouch! That's painful, Burdon! Why are you trying to ignore me?'
'Do I know you?' I asked before I could stop myself.
'Yes, you know me for my whole life.'
'Sorry, I don't re-'
'Member anything, I know. Can you at least remember my name?'
'It's... L... Li... Lic... Licá,' I said, uncertain.
'Yes, you named me. Do you remember how we first met?'
'No.'
'Think, think real hard.'
I tried again, but failed. 'Lica, I can't.'
'That's not the Burdon I know. The one I know would've never given up no matter what, even if it is idiotic.'
'I'm sorry, Licá, but the Burdon you used to know is no longer here.'
'Oh, he is, you just got to remember and then he'll be out.'
'What are you?'
'I'm your dragon and you are my rider.'
'Where are you?'
'In some sort of a jail for animals. Malhaw's dragon is here too, right now Leahna is trying to contact Malhaw. It's too bad your Father's dragon died; she could've help him remember.'
'I'll talk to you some more later, right now I'm a little bit busy.'
'Bye.' She sounded sad that our talk was cut short.
'Bye.'
I ran to my Father and asked him, "Wouldn't it make more sense if we had things that would help us remember?"
My Father nodded. "Yes, but then said it was pretty risky."
But I want to remember and the medication isn't working! I wanted to say something, but I didn't.
We hunted, gather more water, and sparred through out that entire day. I was gathering some water when I saw the hole again. Alone I could go through that hole right now and find out what's on the other side. I was about to go through when someone yelled my name, calling me back. I ran, placing the water in the water pile for anyone to take. When I leaned over a necklace of some sort was hanging around my neck. I fingered the necklace. It was a wolf tooth with a crystal accent pendant. There was a string through a loop that was on top of the pendant. It see-m familiar thought I couldn't figure out why. Who had gave it to me anyways?

She placed the necklace on my neck. Ava walked around and adjusted the wolf tooth necklace.
"Think of me when you touch it," said Ava, as she adjusted the necklace.
I covered her hand-the one that was adjusting the necklace-with mine, saying, "Always." I kissed her on the forehead and walked away.

As soon as it appeared, it disappeared, and I couldn't remember it anymore-not even the person's name. I didn't know the answers to either of those questions. How long will my memory be gone? I didn't know the answer to that question either.
I ate some food and drank some water. When the day ended-or when we thought that the day had ended-we all went to bed and went back to sleep. my dreams were filled with nightmares that night and I didn't get a lot of sleep. I was still half asleep when I heard voices talking.
"They stayed up most of the night troubled by nightmares."
"Just let them sleep and they should be ready in a few days," said someone unfamiliar. I heard the men leave.
I felt a sharp pain in my arm and looked down. There was a syringe in my arm, full of their medication. I looked around and saw everyone in this room had a syringe in my arm. I think there was a sleeping drug in there because fell back to sleep soon after.
When I got up I couldn't really remember what happened yesterday. It was a so foggy and I couldn't remember what happened last night.
One of the guards came in and told them we already had our medication and that we should follow him. We followed him all the way to a room which looked a little familiar, but I couldn't figure out why. We all entered the room and saw a man sitting behind a desk. This situation looks familiar though I couldn't tell why. We were told to sit in the chairs in front of we, we sat.
The man just stared at us for a while. Then he spoke, "I'm glad to see you all here today. Would anyone like something to eat or drink?" When no one asked for anything the man continued. "I'll tell you a little secret before we move on. The medication that's supposed to help you remember actually makes you forgets everything."
I knew it! I knew that the medication weren't helping us remember! I just knew it! I thought, victoriously.
"You're probably wondering why I told you this. Well, let's just say you wouldn't remember any of this conversation, or basically anything for that matter. You'll also be working for me, and you'll won't rebel because you won't remember anything on the matter and because you won't have anything to rebel against so you'll be my loyal servants for all of eternity. Honestly, who did you think made you forget everything in the first place? And if you haven't figure it out yet that would be me. You must be feeling so stupid right now, I actually would be surprised if you didn't."
No way am I going to be this man's loyal servant for the rest of eternity!
I heard something behind me. One of the guards had a chain in his hands, presumably, to chain me up. I swung at the guard and the guard grabbed my arm and chained it. The guard also did the other one.
Once we-My Father, Malhaw, Burdenn, Ryderr, and me-were all chained up the Man ordered, "Give them the medication and give the Crown prince a little extra he seems to fight against it."
The guards must of nodded or something. A second later I felt a sharp pain in my neck then everything went black. I was half awake when I noticed I was being dragged across the ground. It seemed familiar, like I done it before.
When one of the people, who was dragging me, noticed that I was awake he said to the other person dragging me, "Give him some more! We don't want him to remember anything!" I felt a pain in my neck a second later and everything went dark.

'Ava! I need your help!' yelled someone.
'Ava! I need your help!' screamed a different voice.
'Okay, first of all, who are you? And second of all, what do you need me to help you with?'
'I'm Licá, Aeri's dragon. The other one is Leahna, who is Malo's dragon,' explained Licá.
'What do you need my help with?'
'Every Pak Islander-well I don't think everyone of them, but everyone that was here and not back at Pak Island-got captured and their captors made them forget everything and forcing them to work for them! Aeri and Malo wouldn't talk to us anymore. We think you might be able to go and see them and make them remember.'
'What makes you think I can do anything?! I don't even know where they are! Much less, help them remember!'
'You underestimated his love for you. As for where we are, that happens to be in Alagrathea.'
Algarathea?! Could it be that the... Vinstockar captured them and made them forget everything? Could they make Aeri forget about me? I wondered, worriedly.
