Chapter Fifteen

~Burdon~

I just finished eating when the scouts said they spotted a enemy coming, so I quickly ran to the tent, got my armor on, and put Licá's saddle on her, I got on Licá's back and she went to the front of the battlefield.
"Are you ready for your first battle, Aeri?" asked a soldier named Tobias.
"I think so."
"Good luck."
"Good luck to you too."
I had spotted the enemy after a few hours, but since I had better eyesight than most I waited until some else saw the enemy. I felt a hand on my leg, I turned around and saw Father standing there. "Remember no killing or using your powers," warned Father, in our native language. I nodded.
A roar was heard from above-a dragon roar. We all looked up to the sky and saw a red dragon with a rider on top on the Empire side.
"It's okay, Aeri, I'll help you." I nodded, and Father came and sat on Licá.
The enemy came closer and closer. Licá took air to meet the enemy rider and dragon. In the air we met up with the enemy dragonrider. The enemy dragonrider was covering his face with his helmet so I couldn't see his face, and to protect his head. The enemy dragon drew his sword and Father and I drew ours. The enemy dragon charged, we clashed together. Licá managed to hold him off because she was the stronger one this time. The enemy dragon faked to his right, then went to the left and they clashed together again.
"I thought you were only a dragonrider for a few weeks?" asked the enemy dragonrider.
"That's true, I only been a dragonrider for a few weeks."
"Then how come you are such a master at this? I been training for almost a year, and you been training for a few weeks, and you're already better than me. Why is that?" asked the enemy dragonrider.
"I have a great teacher," I said, talking about my Father.
"Before we continue how about we get your name," said my Father.
I noticed that he hesitated before he said, "Valln."
"Nice to meet you to Valln," said my Father and I.
"Who's he?" asked Valln.
"You may know me as Kar, or the rebel dragonrider against Jazer."
"You're Kar?!" asked Valln, surprised.
"Yes."
"Really?! You're a legend, sire. I wish I had the strength you have against King Jazer."
"You didn't join him of your own free will, did you?" asked my Father.
Valln shook his head. "No, he force me to do it."
"I'm sorry," said my Father and I.
Valln just shrugged, and he brought his sword down to cut off my right hand-which had the dragonrider mark on it. I barely managed to get my hand out of the way, considering I was caught off guard.
"What was that for?!" I demanded. Valln didn't answer, instead he tried to cut off my hand again. I managed to dodged Valln again. Valln swung his sword around, and tried to stab me in the chest. I block his sword with mine. We clashed together again. "What on earth are you doing?!" I demanded. Still Valln said nothing. I was able to push Valln off again. He fell sideways a little too hard, and was going to fall down if I hadn't caught him by the arm and pulled him up.
He stared at me, surprised. "Thanks?" said Valln as if sure whether or not he should be grateful for my help, or if he shouldn't.
"You're welcome." Valln-for some unknown reason-put slipped his sword back into its sheath. "Take your sword back out!" I snapped.
"Why?" asked Valln.
"So it will look like we're fighting when we're actually not."
"Fair enough," said Valln, and he swung the sword at my head. I ducked and he swung his sword at my right hand, again.
"Why do you keep doing that?!" I demanded. Valln just shrugged and aimed at my right hand, again, and again, and again-until he actually managed to cut me. "I said make it look like we're fighting, but not actually fight me!" Valln just shrugged again, and swung at my right hand again, but this time Father managed to block the blow with his sword, when I ducked. Over, and over, again Valln tries to cut off my hand. And over, and over, again I managed to block him. This was not a pretend fight, this was a real one-obviously.
Valln's and my dragon they clashed together. Licá and Espinho clawed at each other, trying to bite the other's neck. Espinho managed to kick off Licá, but only for a few seconds before they clashed together again. Licá somehow managed to kick off Espinho, circled around him, and bit his tail. Espinho cried a roar of pain, he tried to bite Licá, but he missed by a mere inches. They clashed together again and both dragons were really trying to take a bite at the other's neck. Licá and Espinho both clawed at each other, lucky Licá had armor on. Sadly for him, Espinho didn't. Licá managed to kick off Espinho, and tried flying at a different angle to attack Espinho.
I saw Espinho spun around, searching for her. She rammed into Espinho's side a second later, making him fly sideways. Espinho-once he stopped spinning in circles-released a jet of fire. Licá managed to dodged the stream of fire set at her and fired a jet of fire of her own at Espinho. Espinho had barley managed to dodge the fire. There weren't any opportunity to fight Valln in the air, yet. But I take a swipe at Espinho's leg and actually make a hit. Espinho roared a roar of pain. Valln seemed to tried to take a stab at Licá's leg, and he would've made a ruinous wound if Licá hadn't jumped back in time, but he still gave her a scratch.
'You okay?'
'I'm fine, just concentrate on the fight.'
Espinho lunged at Licá again and they clashed together. They clawed at each other's bellies, and tried to bite the other's neck. They started spinning, and I couldn't tell if we were downwards, or upwards. Licá broke away just in time before we crashed landed. Espinho was able to stop himself from crash landing, also.
"Why are you so determined to cut off my hand?" Valln just shrugged, and tried to cut off my right hand again. And, this time, he actually cut me on the hand. I swung the sword over and aimed it at Valln. I stopped my sword at Valln's neck. Valln paused. "Stop it! I said we were going to have a pretend fight, not a real one!" I realized, too late, that Valln had already begun swinging his sword down on.
Right onto my right hand-or wrist, I should say.
I barely managed to move my hand away before it was chopped off.
"Go! The rest of the Empire's soldiers are leaving because they are defeated, so if you don't want to get captured I suggested you leave!" I heard, vaguely, my Father say. I think Valln flew away, after the Empire's soldiers.

I had Licá fly back to the Varden, quickly. "How are are you doing, Aeri?"
"I just had my hand nearly chopped off, and you asked me how I'm doing?! Well, I'm in pain!"
Typical. Typical that he would be acting like this. Then again, I would probably be actually like this also. So I guess I can't-or shouldn't-blame if I do it myself. Or would do it, if I was in this situation, I thought.
Once Licá landed at the Varden, I ran to the Healer's tent, and brought Burdon there. "Hi, Rain." Rain looked up and saw Burdon and I.
"Hi, Kar, what happened?"
"My son got injured durning the fight."
"Let me see," she said, going into 'healer mood' as she put it.
I laid Burdon down onto the bed. Rain grasped Burdon's hand, gently. Rain got her medicines out of her bag and started working on Burdon's wrist. "What on earth happened?!"
"I got caught unaware," said Burdon, hardly awake-and losing consciousness quite quickly.
"Hmm..." said Rain, thinking. After Rain put some medicine on Burdon's wrist, she then bandaged his hand and wrist. After that, Rain got a cup and poured some sort of tea and was going to pass it to Burdon, but then handed it to me. "It's herbal tea," said Rain, to me. I helped Burdon drink it.
Must be pretty exhausted because he usually argues whenever I have to help eat, or drink-when he's injured. Especially when he's injured. And he's usually cranky-probably why he argues so much, I thought. "You have to stay here tonight," I said. I heard him sigh. "I'll check on you later, Aeri," I said, standing up. Burdon just nodded-also unusual for him to do-falling asleep. Once Burdon fell asleep, which was in two seconds, I asked, "You take care of him, okay?"
Rain nodded, saying, "Of course." And I left the healer's tent. I told Malhaw, Burdenn and Ryderr what happened.

~Valln~

After a few weeks I made it back to the palace and went to report to King Jazer, even thought he might not like it. I bowed to King Jazer.
"Is it done?" asked King Jazer.
"Sire, it happened it be almost done, I went halfway through his wrist-all the way to the bone. That should keep him immobile for a while."
"Hmm, good job. Next time follow instructions exactly as I said."
"Yes, sire. Sorry sire," I apologized, automatically.
"You may leave now," said King Jazer.
I got up and left the room. I walked all the way to my room. When I got there, I opened the down, and sat on my bed-with my head on in my hands.
'What happened?' asked my dragon, Espinho.
"King Jazer wanted me to cut off someone's hand," I said.
'Hmm, and you did do it?' asked Espinho.
"You know how it is," I said.
'Unfortunately I do,' said Espinho.
"Let go to sleep," Valln.
To be short, let's just say that we both went to sleep.

I opened my eyes and saw a enchanted forest with a someone in it. He looked surprised to see me. "What are you doing here?" demanded Aeri.
"I...I don't know," I said, totally confused.
"Hmm."
"Where are we?" I asked.
"In a dream."
"A dream?"
"No, we're inside of a deer," said Aeri, sarcastically.
"We are?!" I asked, deeply surprised.
"No! I was being sarcastic!" snapped Aeri.
"Oh," I said, feeling rather stupid. "How do we get out of here?"
"Well, in a dream you have to wake up for from the dream, but it's very hard to make yourself wake up-trust me I tried multiplied times."
"Hmm."
"What do we do here?"
Aeri shrugged. "I don't know, it always does want it wants."
"Hmm."
The scene suddenly changed and we were, both, on dragon back and we were flying next to each other. "What happened?!" I asked, surprised.
"Like I said: it always does want it wants."
"That's impossible," I said.
Aeri shrugged. "Want to have some fun?"
I looked down at Espinho's-or at least the dragon was in spiting image of Espinho-neck. "I don't know how to have fun," I said, embarrassed.
"Don't know to have fun?! Well, I know what to do about that. Watch me," said Aeri as spun around in a circle over, and over, again. "Come on, try it," said Aeri. I hesitate to do it.
'Come on let's try it,' said Espinho-or the spitting image of him. He even sounds exactly alike.
'Okay,' I said. 'I can do this. I can have fun.' Then Espinho's twin-I decided that is what I'm going call him-and I started to spin over, and spin over, and over, again. It was so exhilarating! And so much... FUN! "That was so...fun!" yelled Valln.
"I know, that why I had you do it! I'll race you!" yelled Aeri, since the wind was so loud. And Aeri was off. I raced after him with Espinho's twin. I was gaining speed but, somehow, Aeri kept ahead of me. I-really Espinho's twin-tried to get in front of Aeri, well his dragon, but couldn't. His dragon was actually more skilled at flying than Espinho. In front of Aeri's dragon a ribbon appeared, and his dragon raced through it. Aeri turned around after he passed through the ribbon.
I caught up to Aeri a few seconds later. "Wow, that's was so much fun!" I yelled.
"It was fun even thought I beat you to the finish line?"
"Wait that was the finish line?" I asked.
"Yep! And I crossed it first that means I win."
"Well, it still was fun even thought I lost."
We did some more racing and what Aeri called looped 'e' loops, which is spinning around in a circle a bunch of times until you get dizzy and fall down-but you don't fall down when on a dragon-we did a bunch of other stuff. Right now we were just floating on the wind, which was rather relaxing. I don't remember the last time that I did anything relaxing.
"What is your dragon's name?" I inquired.
"Licá. What about yours?"
"Espinho."
"That Portuguese. It means thorn-if translated into English," said Aeri.
"It does?!"
"Yes. Espinho is Portuguese, and it means thorn in English."
"Hmm." I was not going to tell Aeri that I didn't know that-he'll probably tease me for it, I thought. I looked down, and saw a scar half way around Aeri's entire wrist. I looked away, ashamed of what I did.
Aeri noticed what I was looking at and said, "It's okay, I forgive you for it, you were just following orders."
"But I don't deserve to be forgiven about what I did to you," I mumbled to myself.
"Everyone deserves a chance to be forgiven, including you," said Aeri, in a serious tone.
"Hm, thanks," I said, I really needed that.
"You're welcome."
The scene started to fall apart. "What's happening?!" I demanded, a bit panicking.
Aeri seemed unconcerned, saying, "Don't worry it only does this when one of us is waking up." Then Aeri disappeared in thin air.

I closed my eyes, and when I opened them, I was no longer in the dream. Great, now I have to tell King Jazer about this, or he'll do who knows what to me, I thought and I got out of my bed and walked all the way to the throne room where King Jazer usually is. King Jazer was siting on his throne, as usual. I swears I never seen him off his throne expect for a few rare occasions. Does he ever leave his throne? Honestly does he sleep on his throne? Because I never really see if off of it. When I was a few feet away, I stopped and bowed.
"What is it, Valln?"
"Sire, I um...I umm..." I said because I couldn't put it to words what happened.
"Spit it out!" ordered King Jazer.
Wincing, I said, "Sire, I just discovered that I was able to talk to the enemy dragonrider Aeri through a dream."
King Jazer perused me as if he was searching my face for something. King Jazer smiled and he laughs, which I was expecting him to. King Jazer continued to laugh for a very long time. Finally, when King Jazer stopped laughing, he said, "This might be the solution to our problem." "Sire?"
"If you can communicate through this dream of yours somehow, then you can get him to trust you and then you'll be able to capture him!"
"Sire, I thought you wanted me to make him useless?"
"I want you to make him useless, so when we capture him-and if he somehow escapes-he won't be able to help them win, because he's useless and will be no help whatsoever!" explained King Jazer. I said nothing. "You may leave and get ready to go to the Varden," ordered King Jazer.
"Yes, sire," I said, and I left the throne room.
