So I had this idea of starting a roleplay based on the idea of daemons (like an animal spirit doppelgänger sort of). They can be literally any animal but it's mostly based off the person's personality, from my understanding. ((It's been a long-ass time since I watched the movie lol)) I kinda want to watch it again.

Ok so the thing with daemons is they're like an extension of your true self and they feel pain when you do and when you die they basically go up in smoke or something. In the Wikipedia article on daemons, it says 'Dæmons are the external physical manifestation of a person's 'inner-self' that takes the form of an animal. Dæmons have human intelligence, are capable of human speech—regardless of the form they take—and usually behave as though they are independent of their humans.' They can change at will in adolescence but undergo something called settling when you hit puberty, after which they stay on one form. The form they choose is dependent on the personality of their human counterpart.
