Because it's just an ordinary Long Sword that he made and named himself. He's also rumored to have an actual pistol, but no one's actually seen it. They've just herd gun shots and found him, those more experienced in the knowledge of firearms being the only ones able to differ it to being the sounds of some kind of pistol.
