Santa's Star
Before we begin I would like to say thank you to my family as well as my girlfriend and her family. Injuries and finances hit us hard and when the topic of Christmas came up we all smiled.
I also want to thank my followers and apprentices for support.
Merry Christmas.
~~~~~
It was that time of year again. Families getting together for Christmas. It was two days before Christmas Seattle 2019. It was snowing and everyone in the city was trying to get home. Some having different arrangements then others. It all came down to crunch-time. The holidays were all in effect. The busiest time of the year for others.
On the outskirts of the city for a manor. This must have belonged to a great man of power. Which it did. However, a very humble man. Inside the walls of this manor on fifty acres of land lived a man named Dave Bloomer. Along side his wife Erica and son Danny. Across the table the man's brother Dominic with his sister-in-law Elise and nephew Damion or Dame for short.
"It's a pleasure to have you here sitting at my table once again Dom." Dave raised his glass at the large table.
"Thanks again for hosting the getaway Dave." Smiled his brother.
"I can help get to similar goals. Just say when."
"Thank you Dave, but I like where I am for the time being." Dominic insisted.
"Alright. I know how you like the students and such." Dave took a sip of his beer.
"It's not just the students. I enjoy teaching and coaching football. It's what I had the opportunity to do. Dave our parents have gone but the company went well under your leadership. Dad would be proud and you deserve it. Me? Well we have this conversation a lot. I saved up the money so I can get where I am. Yeah some years are better than others, but the reward at the end you just cannot buy." Dominic looked over at his wife and son. "I can say the three of us are happy and in good health. Better yet all six of us. I am truly grateful for where I am. You on your end should be proud too."
"Well I'm the CEO of a company our father help found and I took it to great lengths. Of course I'm proud. I have a beautiful wife and handsome son at that." Dave said in a smug tone.
"Quite right. We all have goals Dave, all in which are different."
"Indeed." Then he looked down at the table. "Say Dame?"
"Yeah Uncle Dave?" Asked Dame.
"What's your dream?"
Dame smiled. "It's a lot to ask, but I would like to be a wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks. In college I want to be finance major for a backup. I'm good with numbers."
Danny smirked. "Yeah, good luck." He said sarcastically.
"A guy can try right?" Dame smiled.
"And I can be realistic and try. I want to invest and go with something I can control. Nothing to do with body, talent, luck, and countless training. Much work for something that has a short career." Danny seemed very realistic, though very rude and harsh about it.
"Now Danny, was that nice?" Asked his mother Erica.
"What? After he's done with school with his major we can work for Dad." Thought Danny.
"The two of you will always be in my regards. Don't you worry boys. But Dom has a point. I wanted to be where I'm at. I wanted to make this the best it can be. The same thing goes with the two of you. You are cousins and both sixteen-years-old. College is around the corner and both of you have the GPA do get into good schools. Sports, education, or having fun it is all up to you. But no matter what path the two of you choose, you make all of us proud." Dave raised his glass. "Cheers."
Everyone raised their glass. "Cheers."
~~~~~
Well after dinner the night fell as Dame found himself starring out the window of his cousin's room. The snow was still falling and it was a beautiful sight. The garden's hedges had a thick layer of snow on top of them and everything in sight on the land looked magical. The view being on the third story helped as well.
"You ever get tired of this view Danny?" Asked Dame.
"I don't know. Depends on what is going on out there. Right now just a white blanket."
"Just a white blanket?"
"Well, it is Christmas time, but right now it's pretty dead outside. I like it during the day time." Explained Danny.
"Snow is snow to me. Though light is good." He nodded. "So Cuz, what are you asking from Santa?"
Danny shook his head. "You mean my father? New dress shoes and a cardigan to showoff in. Then a car since they have nice deals going on."
Dame chuckled. "I meant Santa. Not Uncle Dave."
"Same thing." Said Danny in a monotone voice.
"Nope." Smiled Dame.
"Sure... Wasting your time."
"Oh yeah? When is the last time you got a gift underneath your tree that said it was from Santa?" Dame was making his case known.
"When I was ten. By middle school everyone knows Santa is a myth."
"Then how come I got one last year labeled Santa and my parents had no idea where it came from?" Pleaded Dame.
"Someone else's handwriting and your parents played the stupid card." Huffed Danny.
"Ah. You gave up. I understand. Oh well."
Danny was starting to get annoyed. "Damion Santa isn't real. How does a fat man live for thousands of years? How does a mammal fly? How does he deliver to every house? How does he deliver to apartments? It's a kids gesture to behave."
"Prove it." Dame winked at him.
Danny was starting to boil. Seeing his cousin stay so calm and happy didn't settle things. "Oh yeah? My father gets anything when I ask for it. Because he's got the money. It's different. How could Santa make a smartphone? He makes toys. A smartphone is a tool. How's that mister fairy tale?"
"You got the money to go there tomorrow and see for yourself. Uncle Dave is a multimillionaire and you got a private plane on this land with a ton of acres." Dame wanted to see if his cousin's angry was going to get the best at him. See if it will make him act.
"Fine!" Danny shouted. "I'll call the pilot Captain Mark tomorrow and you'll see."
Dame was surprised and so excited he could dance. "Wait. We're going to the North Pole!?"
"That's our Christmas Eve buddy. Under one condition."
"Name it."
"If we just find snow banks and a bunch of polar icecaps you're scrubbing every toilet in the manor." Now it was a bet. Though at least for a rich boy it didn't involve any money.
"Okay. And if I win?" Asked Dame seemingly cool with the stakes.
"Hmmm... I don't know. Anything in mind?" Pondered Danny.
"Pay my college." Dame winked.
"Are you crazy?" Sighed Danny.
He laughed. "Yup. How about seat next to you at the next Seahawks game? Your father is a season ticket holder after all."
"Fine by me. We leave tomorrow. 9 o'clock good?"
"My bag is already packed. But how do we get past our folks?"
"I'll say we're hanging out in town. They'll believe me." Danny was very intelligent for his age. For being only sixteen he surely knew how to go through all of the motions.
"Alright Danny. I'm packed. You lead."
~~~~~
It was 8 o'clock the next morning. It was Christmas Eve and the snow had cleared things up. Dame found himself in the plane hanger looking around the place. This was his first time. He had only taken one flight in his life. This from being in the hanger and being in this type of aircraft was on a whole other level. The fueling and all the preparations he wouldn't even think of were in progress in front of him.
Danny got him back of his daze. "Alright we have liftoff soon. You ready? Bathroom, snacks, and all of it?"
"Isn't there a bathroom on the plane and don't you get peanuts on the flight?" Asked Dame.
Danny laughed. "Yeah. Figure of speech. Basically."
"Ah. There's a smile. Why so serious all the time Cuz? This is an adventure."
"This is an easy bet to me. But take it as you will." A thumbs up for good luck. "Shall we begin?"
"A little early?" Thought Dame.
"Omelettes to go and some pastries. Don't worry, got the whole crew on without Dad knowing. He's busy sleeping in and then worried about entertaining. I left him a text. We'll be fine. I've done this a number of times. Haven't you Cuz?"
"I don't own a friggin' plane. What do you think?"
"Right..."
The two board the plane as the staff prepares everything for takeoff. The two cousins were sitting across from each other as staff was doing all checkups and necessary checks for safety precautions. Then it got serious when the pilot and co-pilot boarded. That and three staff on board meant this was actually happening. The two boys had very different feelings on the situation, but couldn't help but feel excited going on a Christmas adventure one would read in a book or see on television with a modern twist.
< Attention boys and ladies on board this is Captain Mark your pilot speaking. Clear skies ahead and this is set out to the North Pole. Please buckle up as we are about to have liftoff. >
The two boys are strapped in and looked out the window. The plane took off and gradually ascended. Seeing the manor go out of sight and going onward. Before they knew it they were gone and nearly 35,000 feet in the air. The boys were in for a treat.
Danny had bit into a blueberry pastry and say Dame deal him some playing cards. "Now how do you like this view instead?"
"Incredible of course. Though I got to ask Danny, how come this is first time we've had this much fun in a while?"
"You're a football guy when I'm more of a baseball guy, maturity- You know what? That still is no excuse for it. I really don't know. Have our schedules really just been out of wack or are we just trying to be adults and keep to ourselves?"
Dame smiled. "We aren't adults yet Danny. We are juniors in high school and just trying to live the dream. I may never be a wide receiver or a CEO like Uncle Dave, but how many can say they took a private plane past Canada and to the North Pole?"
Danny thought about it as he finished his pastry and then had better thoughts about the situation at hand. "You know what, you're right."
"Right?"
"Either or I guess it's bragging rights right? Though just hypothetically speaking, if we found Santa's workshop what would it look like?" Danny started to ramble off ideas. "I don't see a little workshop. With the world population he must have expanded at some point. Hmmm..." He took a moment. "Think it's like a college campus?"
"You mean like your factory, dorms, tech area, and such?" Pondered Dame.
"Think about it. If you weigh out the imagination and somehow made things like MP3 players and tech stuff starting around the 2000's, a little workshop with elves wouldn't cut it. The materials to make it, make it function, and then test it before putting it in the box and wrapping it. That is just so many steps."
"Ah. But the assembly line was made about a century ago. Time and adapt. Add a whole year to prep and learn I'm sure they get with the times. They probably have internet and television like we do."
"Touche..." Danny wasn't going to admit it, but his cousin had a few solid claims that made him question his thoughts. The fact he had Santa gifts at this age and he didn't. How Santa just like everyone else could get with the times. The reasonable doubt was sitting in his mind clouding it with the magical question of "what if".
~~~~~
A few hours have passed. They did have wi-fi on the plane, but even so it was the matter of being airborne. Everyone likes solid ground here and there. Lunch had already past and it was getting to that time where the map was having a hard time to find things such as landmarks. It got tricky since their wasn't known air traffic beyond this certain point.
< Attention boys. This is Captain Mark your pilot speaking. Please move up and join us in the hanger for briefing. > The pilot wanted the owner or in this case Danny since he sent out on the mission, to give the command.
Danny lead Dame to the hanger. "Yes Captain?"
"Aye sir. We are mostly clear but have no knowledge of the readings ahead." Seems interesting that Captain has no idea where he is heading.
"Fly towards it and if nothing we turn around and go back to Seattle. Sound to you Dame?"
"Guess so. Might be scrubbing the thrones but oh well." Sighed Dame.
The moment was getting big for them. So much on the line on both sides. Pride on one side and a life changing event on the other. In the balance of what the scanners showed up ahead. It said they were getting closer and closer. Out of North America and going into North Antarctica. This was just so intense for everyone.
"Alright guys." Captain Mark was flying closer when they saw a building. A rather tall, office building. "What the heck?"
"A giant building in the middle of the artic?" Surprised Danny.
"I don't want to speculate, but maybe we should land and check it out." Suggested Dame.
"Yes sir." Captain Mark flew down for a landing. As they descended they realized that it was just a random building. As they flew closer to the ground they found houses and more buildings but smaller. "What in the world?"
"Dame?" Danny looked over.
"Yeah Danny?"
"Is Santa basically another big shot but up North?"
"I don't know. But it's like we said before, no way it's a small workshop. But anyway no matter what happens I know I'm not scrubbing your personal John at home."
"Yeah. No toilets for you. Wow, I can't believe this might actually be something. I had no idea."
The boys are starting to get excited. Seems that the description of Santa just may be outdated. As everyone in the plane was getting closer to touch down they saw a runway. It looked as though just like Dave back home, this place also had planes that were taking off. They landed the plane and came to a halt as then short men in suits walked closer to the plane.
"State your business boys." Nodded Captain Mark. "I'll open the hatch."
"Those elves?" Asked Danny.
"Honestly man, I don't even know at this point. All prospective." Dame walked back over towards his seat to put on his heavy coat and walked down the hatch. "Hello?"
"Hello boy." Dame was greeted by a short man. He was maybe 5'2" with white hair, a black suit, and a striped green and red tie. "Can you state your business?"
"Hi sir. I'm Dame. My cousin Danny and I had his pilot drive us here to the North Pole because he didn't believe in Santa."
The man smirked. "Didn't believe you say, well now. Have your cousin put on his coat as your staff can be on standby. I'll prove to you such a thing. Your name boy?"
"Damion Bloomer. Greater Seattle area."
"Ahhh. Dame and Danny Bloomer." He chuckled. "I think I recognize those names. Well I'm Snow. Pleased to meet you."
Dame went over to shake his hand. "Thank you Snow. One moment." He happily went back up thr hatch to see Danny putting on his coat. "Dude! You got to see this." He went back down and noticed that Snow wasn't alone.
Danny came down and noticed all the men in suits. "The North Pole have a corporate?" He pondered.
"Nice to meet you Danny. My name is Snow. And we here, just call ourselves The Elves. Come with me. We have an eye opener for the two of you."
"I suppose let's see this operation." Agreed Danny.
"More like see this adventure from the inside. Come on. You aren't excited?"
"Well Dame considering only a handful ever go here, yeah. We will see how it is."
The two follow Snow with other workers behind them. Off the landing strip was a town circle with the ground covered in snow. Buildings all over. Some houses, shops, and then what looked like workplaces. They pass a guard working security as he puts a hand out in front of the two boys.
"Phones here boys. They don't go inside." He asked being assertive.
"Because we're outsiders?" Asked Danny.
"This isn't America Danny." Dame turned his phone over. "They don't want footage or pics leaked out. We can respect that."
"Fair." Danny agreed and did so easily.
"Now we have to be short so you boys can be home now." Smiled Snow.
"Home?" The boys gasped.
"Don't you two need to get home to be there for Christmas Eve dinner?"
"Right..." The two have been so cloud minded on this adventure they forgot about their folks.
"Very well then. Follow me. It will just be the three of us." Snow lead the way down the snowy path. "This is the main strip. Think of it as a campus. Left of us are some houses for us. Right are the casual hangouts." This did look like a typical town center. Though had to be more to it. "Years ago that yellow building on the left used to be the scroll room. Santa had a list originally, then it got so big je wrote everything in a scroll. Now with technology being the game it downsized to a computer, relocated into the shop, and some of our techs do their work in there."
Danny was baffled. His question he asked Dame last night could be answered. "So how do you and Santa make smartphones Snow?"
"Santa actually doesn't produce. He is more of a supervisor. He is head and keeps track of production and delivery. Reindeer are companions on aircraft kind of like dogs. The main reindeer that carried Santa's sled retired a long time ago and created dozens and dozens of children. They treat The Elves in the transport department with companies. Kind of like dogs with antlers."
"Cool. And the tech stuff?"
"Patience. I was getting there. You see Danny you're a smart boy. You know that the big companies give us their licensed parts for write-offs? All of us have partnerships and we pull favors to have children get the best possible when available. You should have seen the early 2000s."
"Early 2000's?" Asked Dame.
"You two may never remember a time where everyone didn't have an MP3 player. Or a smartphone as a matter of fact. In the early 2000s technology increased so rapidly even our tech division had trouble." Snow then heard bells ringing as a phone ringtone. "Just a moment. Hello?" ... "Yes?" ... "Really?" ... "Right away sir." He hit end call and put his phone is his pocket. "That right there boys, was the big man. Or rather, the old man. You two ready to meet the immortal legend?"
"Immortal..." Gasped Dame.
"How?" Asked Danny.
"Maybe he might tell you." Snow winked. Miracles happen. It's Christmas.
Snow half a block down stopped at these big stainless steal doors. He went to the keypad and entered a code as the two doors swung open. This here was office space. On a second floor was a solo office suite. In front of the opening door, a man who was about six feet tall, not heavyset but not in shape, long white hair with a full beard, and blue eyes.
"Boys. Or should I say gentlemen? Welcome." Said the man.
"You're Santa..." Gasped in surprise.
"No way. You look different." Argued Danny.
"Yes boys. For my health and wellness I have lost weight, though gain a good amount back the last week or so of the year. The red suit also gains a good few pounds. Along with the stories thinking I'm larger." He winked at them. "Yes boys, I am. Follow me."
"Wow..." Said the boys as they follow Santa up the steps and going up the stairs to the suite. This was amazing. These two did it. Without potentially ruining Christmas they made it to the North Pole and met the man who started it all. A legend. The two boys walked in front of his desk and took a seat while Snow stood next to the door inside. "I'm sure you boys have a lot of questions."
"Yes sir." Nodded Danny.
"Fire away Danny." Smiled Santa.
"I haven't gotten a present from in five years. Since I was eleven. Why is that? Don't you offer coal?" Danny wanted to know if he got skipped.
"You see Danny, I have a few reasons. Pollution. Coal gets burned. It has gotten expensive over time. Secondly, children behavior is hard. The way to condone is to not knowledge it. If a kid gets nothing, it means he/she needs to make up for it and be better as an individual. They know at the young age what being nice is."
Danny looked down. "You're right."
"Santa?" Asked Dame.
"Damion Bloomer. What can I do for you?" Santa smiled.
"I've been asking myself this and my friends for years. Truly who are you and how do you do all of this? Danny asked how you make phones."
Santa smirked. "Danny you asked for a smartphone right?"
"Yeah?" Danny replied.
"Licensing, parts, and technology. Snow told you about the tech department right?" Santa smirked. "You boys don't remember the 2000s like I do. Technology advanced so fast. Before cell phone cases were all different shapes and sizes. Now it's basically down to what model and the market only has three main ones. I have a whole department that receives parts from various companies. Even your smartphone companies. It's why they pay taxes. The write-offs from me. Technicians build them, test them, and they get boxed. My departments have expanded for generations. Every year it gets bigger. I went from reindeer to handing the deliveries to The Elves with reindeer co-pilots and we have hundreds of crafts that leave the pad you two flew your plane on. Everything is a process and has 363 days to figure out while Christmas Eve is all goes into effect and the day after we relax and enjoy the holiday."
"Wow..."
"That's a lot."
The two boys were processing so ever much. It was a dream to be here. This was any kid's dream. Now Dame had one more question.
"So how have you lived all this time sir?"
"Simple. I'm a spirit. I'm Saint Nick. That's what I am. That's how I do it. Spirits don't age past a certain point. I'm here because children like you Dame. Even you Danny. The two of you are ones that can easily spread joy to others when you out your mind to it. And with that. I have something for the two of you as a token from myself." He went into a drawer in his desk and handed over two small black boxes.
Dame took a box and opened it up. "A gold Christmas star?" The smile on his face was ear to ear.
"Irony a name after a devil gets a lifelong gift from a Saint. Yes. The two of you have one. Eighteen karat gold with a Christmas star pendant. My jeweler here in the North Pole Joseph made less than 100 of these. Look on the back."
Dame looked on the other side of the pendant. "Santa's Star. What does this mean Santa?"
"Be above. Be happy. Help others feel humbly on top of the world. Have them feel warm, welcome, and happy. That's what being a star is." Santa nodded.
Danny was unsure. "Sir I'm not sure I can accept this. After everything-"
"Now-now. It's a gift. I know the two of you will be just fine. Now boys." He got up from his chair. "Can Santa get a hug before you two head home and get to work?"
"Yes we can." Dame walked over and bear-hugged Santa.
"The least I can do." Danny joined in the three way hug.
"Glad to see that you two boys at your age truly get what this holiday is about. It's not about money or the material items. It is about joy and nothing else."
~~~~~
Snow ended up escorting Dame and Danny back to the plane. The staff were surprised that they would off of the ground and back to Washington to quickly. But they had families of their own too. They had to be back for Christmas dinner and their parents were going to wonder where their location would be.
Danny was grateful, but he felt so bad. It didn't hit him yet. Dame smiled as he dealt cards at the table for him. "Still feel like it should go to someone else?"
"Dame, how?"
"It means he believes in you. You believe you can be a stock broker and house flipper, and all these crazy big-shot professionals. And Santa or Saint Nick believes that you, yes you Danny, can he good and spread joy."
"I guess I've been a jerk haven't I. I had a bet for you to clean my toilets. And even before this year I, have just been a jerk. I brag, I'm mean, and I'm not nice." Danny was going through all of it.
"But we start now." He winked. Then looked at the necklace pendant on his chest. "We have magic. Well, spirit."
"We should probably keep them tucked in when we get home." Suggested Danny.
Dame did so immediately. "Good catch. But remember Danny, when this plane lands we continue forward. This insane trip made us better people."
"Yeah Dame. No gift, challenge, girl, or amount of money will get in between us."
The next part was going to be interesting. How were the two boys going to land and just walk right into the house and say they were just hanging around. A wise man knows his plane took off for an X amount of time. Technically, bet or not Danny pulled the trigger on this. Even though he and his cousin decided on no winner, Danny still had some explaining to do. Who at sixteen-years-old just takes a plane and orders the pilot to take flight? Maybe the son of the President, but that's about it.
The plane did land as both boys worried about what was happening next. When the attendant said it was clear to step out it was weird to find out Dame and Danny did not receive a phone call from any parent. Was it just luck? Or did they trust the two boys despite being only sixteen? Danny reached to his phone to call his father. Just to check up on things.
< Hello? >
< Hey Danny. Where are you two? Dinner is just about ready. >
< I'll be inside in no time. Give me five minutes. >
< Alright. Bye Champ. >
< Bye. > Danny hung up and grinned at his cousin. "If they ask about the plane, we went sight seeing and nothing more."
"Don't you worry. We got this."
In reality if a man is smart enough to make a company turn into a multi-million dollar business, he knows where his son is, when he is home, if he's in trouble, and notices when his plane is gone... The two enter the massive front door of the manor and walk to the kitchen. Making sure they are suited to gather at the table. The two sit down next to their mothers and across from one another. Here is the moment of truth.
"Where did you boys take off to?" Asked Dave.
"We were exploring." Claimed Danny.
"To where? San Diego?" Grinned Dave. "My plane's gone. Didn't see you at breakfast. Want to fill us in?"
"Uncle Dave it was incredible. The view of Seattle and the area and seeing what the snow is like from above is amazing. That is almost a miracle." Dame came through just in time.
"I'm glad. Though next time, just ask and I will grant both of you. The two of you deserve it regarding the holiday."
The two boys laughed as a sigh of relief and gave their thanks. Throughout the whole meal it went smoothly. They were in the clear. Now was just to eat and fall asleep at a decent hour to wake up to a solid Christmas morning. The two had quite the story to hide and they did it.
~~~~~
It was 8 AM when Danny was shaken awake. Danny turned over and grumbled because he knew which boy with large amounts of Christmas spirit disrupted his rest. "What time is it?" He groaned.
"Danny it's 8 AM and you have a gift from Santa."
Danny's eyes opened wide in a surprising stare. If it were two days ago we would wave it off and go back to sleep the best way he could. Now, he thought about it after the adventure of his life. His eyes remanded open and facing away from Dame. "Say that one more time."
"Santa has brought you a gift."
"Alright. I'm up." He swung over the bed and got to his feet. "I never stay in my pajamas either, but today is an exception."
"Come on Cuz. Let's hit the stairs." Dame walked out of the room.
"Hey wait up." Danny sped up and wanted to see if he was kidding or not." The two went down the steps and in front of the ten foot Christmas tree in the living room that was more suited to be a lobby, was a small amount of presents underneath it. Some in gold and silver wrapping paper and the others in a red and green. "Wow. Two different colors. Now let's check the tags."
The parents all gathered around the tree with coffee. Waiting for another precious moment to arise. With only one or two more of these they did not want to miss out with this. They were excited to see what their only children were going to get. And everyone say the tags. Dame with the red and green and Danny with the gold and silver.
"Hey Danny when's the last time Santa paid a visit for you?" Asked Dave.
Danny wished he could say yesterday. But really he smiled and did the next best thing. "It's been five years."
"Open ours from your mother and I and go it." Dave smiled.
Danny found this twelve by nine inch triangle like shape for the silver paper. He peeled it off to find out that it was a binder. Opening it up was a list of various companies. Danny smiled. "This is cool. This what I think it is?"
"Stocks." Nodded Dave. "You want to be a business man those are some notes and certificates that get you started. There will be some ways you can do it on your phone or computer but this is a start to one of many paths you want to do. From there the ball will soon be in your court." Something Danny wanted to move into for some time now.
"Thank you." Then Danny turned to his cousin. "Alright Dame you're up."
Dame went to the green paper that was wrapped by his mother since his father wasn't good at wrapping gifts. He pulled the paper off to see a custom football jersey for him. His lucky number sixteen and his last name Bloomer on the back of it. "This is pretty sweet. Thank you." Dame put on the jersey to see how it fit. "Perfect. Wow. Thank you again."
His mother smiled. "Now what did Santa bring?"
"Let's see." Dame turned his attention to the red paper. It looked as if it were a shoe box. Thinking it was his lucky day such as a man at the craps table he pulled the paper to find a plain white box. No label. He lifted the cover off to find himself tickets to Seahawks game. Front row seats. These were incredible difficult to get. The hardest ticket in the whole city. And he had six of them. Everyone was going. "MY GOD!" Cheered Dame. "Winter vacation!"
Danny ran over and looked. "Dude!"
"Primetime?"
"Primetime. Yes."
Dame looked back at the box and saw that a note was left.
< Wait for Danny to open his present from me and check for a large white box and another note behind the tree. And thank you again Dame, you truly are the Christmas angel.
-Santa >
"Open yours Danny." Insisted Dame.
Danny went to the gold wrapped box. The same size as Dame's. The same thing went. Another plain white box that looked as if it was assembled to put shoes into. He lifted the box to see what again he wanted. A new phone. The latest model. On top of it another note. He smiled and did his best to hide a Christmas silver tear.
< Danny. There is always someone that can join the good list. You may look down on yourself but you helped a Christmas miracle. I had a few of these left and you deserve it. Truly my boy. You make this Saint proud. What for Dame to open his gift and go to the back of the tree to find a large white box. It's for the both of you.
-Santa >
"Hey Dame, did you get a note?"
"I did. You ready?"
"You first."
"Dame you're the joyful one. Go for it." Danny was being very nice today. Nothing like his list complete and his dreams coming true in one morning.
Dame went around the tree to find himself a white box two feet in diameter. He pushed it over to the front of the tree for everyone to see. He put a hand on the lid. "We both will do it."
"Okay." Danny put a hand on the other side.
"No matter what happens, we're still family."
"Yup."
"One."
"Two."
"Three." They lifted the lid together and tossed it in front of the tree. They saw a hoodie that was black and purple. It said Washington with a large W in the front.
Danny looked at it and moved it out of the box to see another one. "Hey we got two for us. Sweet." He took it out for Dame and saw yet, another note. "Another note dude."
< Hello boys. First off Merry Christmas. Second I have good news for you. I had the impression that a Danny Bloomer would be interested in the football program we have here at University of Washington. The business programmer Professor Thompson stepped me aside to tell me I had mistaken. Turns out I was looking for a Dame Bloomer. After calling your high-schools, we found out the two of you were related. Him and I have reached an agreement as Danny he has had his eyes on you. Just as I Dame, have seen your talent. The two of us want to see the two of you to stop by sometime to take a look at the University of Washington and be one of the Huskies. Because purple and black look good on the two of you. Love to hear from both of you.

"Wow..." Dame smiled.
"Dad?" Danny looked over. All the parents smiled. It must have been great news. "Dame you thinking what I'm thinking?"
"Oh yeah." He nodded.
"We're going to be Huskies."
With that the parents gathered around for a big family group hug. Their boys were growing up fast. They found the college that seemed just right from them. Aside from this Danny found his spirit of Christmas, Dame never let the holiday fire burn out, and the two boys who used to be so different are now on the same page and are closer than ever. Just comes to show you, if you believe or know a person who believes, Christmas miracles can happen to anyone.
