Scenerios:

Nightmare is secretly in love with Dream, but knows that it's wrong, so he starts distancing himself from Dream.

Dream always cared a lot for Nightmare, but he didn't realize that it was growing into something more then it should.

Nightmare tries to kill himself, Dream stops him and confesses to him.
Nightmare refuses Dream, but more he thinks about it, more he falls for Dream.
Dream stars dating someone else by time Nightmare figures out his feelings, in attempt to forget about him, which, of course, fails.

Star sanses fight with Nightmare's group and Nightmare almost kills Dream.
That's when he realized how much he cared about him.
He doesn't want to fight Star sanses anymore, staying by Dream's side until he gets better.
