Chapter 1 | Ophiophobia
Fear. Fear is what separates us. We are all made of the same bone, the same muscle, the same organs. Our minds, they all wonder down the same dark hallways. The average person has thought about murder at least a few times; How they would do it, who they would do it to. It's easy for anyone to make death threats if they're angered or drunk. What stops the normal person from committing murder is fear.
Our society would rather let a godawful person keep wasting oxygen than just make them compost. Worms and vultures need to eat too. We wonder, though, why global warming is a problem? It's because we let this scum continue to destroy our world just by living. I've found myself in a rather unique situation because I am the one percent that is not afraid to take a life. My sins have yet to be punished and I doubt they ever will. The idea of karma doesn't apply to those with drive.
"Do you know why you're here, Mister Carter?" I asked calmly as the lights struggled to turn on.
With a few flickers, they stabilized. I placed a glass carrier on the table. It was about the size for a small dog. A blanket was thrown over top for now. The man in front of me, if I could even call him as such, was strapped down to a chair.
Foolishly, he ignored me and sobbed, "Please let me go! I just want to see my family!"
I rested my finger tips down on the steal table. Looking him down, I saw him tremble through my transparent eyes. "You should've thought about that before you started embezzling millions from your clients. You spent years putting people in a cage with a snake, in which you were the snake. I believe it's time the roles were reversed."
Swiftly, I pulled the cover off the case. It was pure glass, making it very easy to see the large slithering creature inside that was just vying to get out. Mr. Clark, however, was a lot less majestic in his movements. He shook in place and started to fight his restraints.
"I wouldn't do that," I said, "You're going to upset her. This is Annie. She's a Inland Taipan, AKA the most poisonous snake in the world. It's estimated that she could kill a hundred men with one bite. When I leave this room, the door will lock and your restraints will be undone. The only key to the door is in Annie's stomach. You will have to cut it out or die trying."
"And if I don't open the cage? It can't get to me then!" He retaliated.
"When the door closes, it'll also start an hour timer. If the timer goes off, there are six nail bombs in the room that will go off. Live or die, the choice is yours." I set a barber's knife on the table and slowly pushed it towards him.
He made his cries and moans of pain. They're white noise to me. I walked out, taking one last glance at the business man before shutting the heavy duty door. The slam of it's lock echoed through these halls like a gunshot. Around the corner, there was a room lined with monitors. Ryan had pried himself away from his experiments for a moment to watch my games. He and Ricky were the only ones that truly understood them. The others could get their kicks from it, but they saw it as a waste of time.
My aim is to teach these people lessons. That is, if they survive. None have so far. I've done tests and I know these are passable. None of the test subjects have had enough will to live yet. I took a seat beside Ryan without a word and watched the screen. This guy will pussy out. I know it. He'll think he's got the balls to try, but I know he won't. He has nothing to live for. That's the point of this, to make people value their lives.
Ryan leaned back, resting his hand on his mouth. He put his legs up on the table. It wasn't my room or my monitors, so I could care less what he was doing. "How did you get that snake?" He asked, "They're only found in Australia."
"How do you know they're only found in Australia?" I replied, glancing over at him.
"I know things." He spoke matter-of-fact-ly.
"Well, you know things and I know people." I stated.
A moment of silence passed. We both went back to staring at the monitors. The current test subject had yet to do a thing other than panic and sweat. They always fucking sweat. I'm glad I don't have to clean up my messes because sweat is grosser to me than blood. At this rate, I'm waiting for him to start praying. He had no religion in his life prior to this. You'd be surprised how in the face of death, people find God pretty fucking quick.
"So, how many blowjobs did you have to give Ricky to convince him to get you the snake?" Ryan questioned me suddenly.
I glanced over at him and he returned the favor. He was serious. Fucking damn it. I hate that he has such good psychiatric training. I sighed, "Not that many. What does it matter?" I flicked my nails at each other absentmindedly to keep my hands busy.
"It doesn't. Although it's completely unfair how you just have to bat your eyes and you get whatever you want from the boss. I have to fill out twenty fucking forms." He griped.
"That's why you have an assistant, you know, but you don't trust her enough." I chuckled. Gotta feel sorry for her. He won't even let her touch a form, let alone touch his dick. My phone started to ring to the tone of a HIM song. I sat up and grabbed it, seeing my favorite person's name on the screen. Smiling ear to ear, I answered, "Hey, Babe."
"Hey, Baby Doll." Ricky responded. He sounded tired, but then again, when isn't he?
His voice made me so happy. It's been awhile since I've heard it because he's been gone on missions. I asked, "How's Paris?"
"It fucking sucks. I'm in one of the most romantic cities in the world without you. It's no fun." He said, "I can't talk long, but I have something important to tell you."
I stood up and walked out of the room. His tone implied it was serious, so I thought I should be alone. I sunk down the wall in the hallway. "I'm alone. Go 'head." I told him.
Of course even when I do get a call, it's going to be all work. He'll be home soon enough but I fucking miss him. I miss the long nights of cuddling and killing and just talking. He sighed on the other end. I heard the flipping of papers, the silent tension. What he said next was something I never thought I'd hear...
"I just heard back from intel. They found him."
