Do you trust him?

Some more Jess this is sort of a filler chapter... but I hope you like it any way, I'm so excited for a chapter in about five updates eek!

Tell me what you think etc... please !

Jess POV:

"Do you think his going to follow us?" Sang asks as we pull away from mum's house. I nod  instantly.

"There is no way his not going to... In fact he has likely put some kind of tracker on the Landy..." I muse carefully. Sang humm's gently in response, her eyes still on the road.

"Right open the glove compartment!" She says, she indicates left before turning down the side road.

"Ok... what am I looking for?" I ask as I yank the notoriously trick to open compartment. A second later I realise I should have waited for a just moment. A computer monitor opens out in front of me.

"Whew!" I gasp as I move back quickly to avoid being whacked by it.

"Opps, probably should have warned you that was going to happen... sorry!" She giggles for a moment, her cheeks slightly pick, before going serious, "Okay run a bug scan on the car!" I give her a look, that she can't see, as her eyes are still safely on the road, that says how exactly? When I realise, I quickly vocalise my eye speak.

"Oh, right yeah, so I just ...how the heck do I do that exactly S?"

"Opps!" she giggles again, her blush increasing, "forgot I hadn't taught you that... yet!" she has been teaching me basic coding for the last few months but while I'm picking up her language lesson easilyish the advanced computer stuff is, crazy weird!

It's strange though, despite Sang being a crazy computer genius and fantastic at languages she literally struggles on occasion to use a mobile phone to make normal calls! That might have something to do with the fact that she only has four contacts on her phone. All labelled under single letters, B, E, J and P. She told me only very recently who B and P are (her adopted dads) E is my mum and J is, of course, me. The fact that B, E and P never use their phones hasn't really given her that much practice, she's got much better, recently, with my help. But she still quite often forgets to bring it out with her, I've found myself using mine less when I'm around her as well. Now when I use it, I feel like it disconnects me with reality!

"Jess," my head jerks' round, if she's calling me Jess, she's been talking for a while, "did you get any of that?" I shake my head; she looks at me in exasperation for a moment, before restarting her explanation as she looks back at the road.

"Go to the thing that has three horizontal lines across it!" I click it and boxes appear. "Tap the function labelled 'bugs'!" I have to scroll down quite a way to find it, but I do a second later. More boxes pop up.

"Done!" I am way too happy about it! She nods luckily focused ok the road as someone races in front of us and she has to slam on the breaks. Thank god for her amazing reaction time, people like that idiot should not be on the road!

"What? Why?!!" Sang says in that quiet voice of hers, her annoyance is subtle but definitely there .

I've never heard Sang raise her voice, I'm not sure she can, to be honest, there is definitely something wrong with her throat. She's also has never sworn, not in my hearing anyway! When the driver's pulled properly past she slides the stick back into gear and continues.

"God Jess!" she says slightly louder than normal, and I realise that I zooned out again. "Right, you're driving!" Sang states as she lets out a cough, with that she indicates to pull over to the side of the road. Her eyes flick to the mirrors, before she slides across a lane and brakes slightly.

"WHAT!?" I splutter.

"You can drive the Landy, plus it's totally legal, I got you on the insurance as soon as you passed your test in the Easter holidays!"

"Yeah, but I've never driven it on the road!" I can't believe her sometimes.

"Well... you have to start sometime!" She yanks the wheel to the left pulling up suddenly as she sees a space.  Sprinkles squeaks from my lap as she gets thrown sideways and forward. My arms quickly coming up to catch her, Sang blushes slightly (again) and mutters an apology to the three dogs in the back, not that they really cared, they are all lying down anyway.

"Swap!" Sang almost orders in that quiet way of hers, "please!" she adds as an afterthought, though she's already climbing across the bit in the middle of the seats. I turn and hop out the car passing her Sprinkles as she settles into the seat I just vacated. By the time I'm round the other side she strapped in, typing on the I-pad screen/s.

"Okay, he can still track, but it's no longer transmitting our position to his home base, now his signal is going for a drive!" she gives me a running commentary as her fingers fly over the screen.

When she glances at me, I realise that I haven't pulled away yet and quickly indicate to go out. Sang continues typing away, now writing lines of code down and I focus on making sure I get all of us back in one piece.

It's terrifying, even though there are hardly any people on the road. My hands are clamped round the wheel and evey driver looks like they are trying to hit me.

"Breathe Jess, you've got this- easily!" Sang mutters looking up for a moment, taking a second to reach out and squeeze my arm gently. Before she goes back to typing again.

I know that she trusts me to drive. It gives me the confidence to slightly release the death grip on the steering wheel. Then I do as she says and take a breath. It's late enough that there aren't too many users racing around the streets, which makes this actually okay for my first drive in the Landy on the road.

"Okay... where might someone go for hours and not have all their 'family' follow them?" she looks up from the screen, I guess that she's asking me and it's not a rhetoricalquestion then. I shrug still focused on the road, is that car after us, oh my god is he going to keep driving.

No. No his not. He stops, the man in the sports car grins pointing at he Land drover and giving me a thumbs up. I send a shakes thanks back and continue on.

"Hmm..." Sang mutters typing, "do you think North would go get him from a chocolate factory?" she mutters.

"Yes!" I say straight away, well he would have, I'm not actuallysure anymore... I'd like to think he would. At least that would show he still cares for his brother. She hum's again and types a few more things, "How about you send him on a ridiculously long drive?" I suggest. I seem to remember Luke talking about enjoying going out on drives at some point. She looks considering for a moment before nodding.

"That could work! And I can just send him off somewhere else if they get close..." she trails off still typing, her mouth moving but no words coming out as her face crumples in concentration. I hold in a snort when I glance at her, it's so different from her normal look, the geeky glasses she wears when she's working on a computer for any length of time. It totally amazes me that she can go from practical effective vet to hacker in three seconds. I also have no idea when she put those glasses on, it's like she can teleport them to her face when she needs them!

She glances at me, grins, pushes her glasses up her nose and turns back to the screen. The dark outside makes her look slightly ghostly in the light.

"Right the question is...how much do we trust him?" This time it does seem like a rhetorical question, so I keep quiet waiting for her to finish her thought, she does this sometimes and I just have to wait her mouth to catch up and finish her thoughts. "So yes, we let him come but do we allow him the navigation system to help him get back?" it's starting to make sense, she's asking herself, and sort of me how much to trust Luke, something she's been doing since she met him. I wait to check that she's finished before saying.

"How about trust him to come, but let him have to find his way back by himself, see how much he wants it!" she tilts her head thinking before grinning brighter and nodding.

"Perfect!" she types again, "okay done! Is it kind weird that I kind of want him to find his way back?" I have to stifle a grin at her words, I knew it! Instant con-nect-tion! And they were so cute together! I know the other boys are with the witch, but Luke didn't fall for Kayli and I can't wait for my new almost adopted sister and my prankster twin to get together. Fingers crossed anyway!

Sang folds the screen away and leans back in the seat her hands stroking Sprinkles in her lap. Her eyes check the dogs in the back briefly before coming back to the road in front.

"You good?" she asks, and I surprise myself by nodding a lot more relaxed than before. Her smile is the most relaxed I've seen out of the reserve so far.

"You like him, don't you?" I ask carefully, as I navigate round an awkward round-a-bout (seriously who put five tiny round abouts around a big on?), making sure I don't look at her.

I've never met someone who's more uncomfortable talking about anything deeper than the weather. Unless of course it's animal related, then she can talk for hours! When she hasn't said anything for a few minutes and the road is straight and clear, I risk a glance at her. She catches me looking and her cheeks colour slightly. I turn back to the road but don't say anything as we pull up at the gate.

Sang hops out and keys in a code before allowing the scanner to scan her body, then light washes over the car. It flashes green at Sang, another screen opens to ask her to authorise the Landy to come in with the tracker attached. She types several codes in and presses her hand into another scanner. The light surrounding the Landy turns green, and the gates opens. Sang walks through next to me as I pull the car into its designated space. As soon as I put the hand break on Sang opens the back to let Max, Jason and Isla out.

Storm and Demetra appear from nowhere, it always amazes me how they know exactly when we are going to be ready, to the point of it being slightly creepy.

Demetra greets Sang, as always, before heading over to me. She gently head butts be as I climb out of the car. It's very hard to believe that I only met her and the rest of Sang's 'family' a few months ago. They feel more like my family than Kota does now, and if I'm being honest- my mum as well!

"Come on we want to be back at the house so that I can rework the system to let the 'Ninja' in!" she puts 'ninja' in air quotes as she scrambles onto Storms back holding onto Sprinkles.

I clamber on to Demetra, still not as gracefully, but I like to think I'm improving! Sang sends me a flash of a smile before Storm wheels round and races off down the path, I follow knowing the dogs will be racing on our heels, Isla's got old enough to run now rather than always being carried, especially as she's grown quite a lot since the first time I met her, she's now a healthy weight, way too heavy to safely carry.

Sang is already inside by the time we get to the main house. Demetra drops me off between the sick bay and the birthing ward. Storm is waiting for her, as always.

I slide off, Sang has left the door open for me and I do the same so that Isla, Jason and Max can get in. On my way past the wards, I can't help but check in on Lucky who's still recovering from the idiots outside my collage. His much, much better, but Sang is keeping him on bed rest for a few more days to make sure that he doesn't aggravate the injuries before they are fully healed. He lets out a bark and stands wagging when I stop next to the pen his currently in.

"How are you doing boy?" I mutter as my hands rub across his head; he licks my fingers before turning and nudging his food bowl my way.

"Oh no way!" Sang's voice come from behind me laughing, "Lucky I know you think your throats been cut, but that because you are at least part Labrador and you don't think of anything but food! You have had your dinner," she glances at the clock, which is now reading almost ten thirty, "about five hours ago! I know it was a weird time, but you are on a strict diet at the moment, you just have to deal with it!" she adds laughing as she heads to one of the monitors. "I'm worried about the wolf and the leopard in the birthing ward!" I glance at her, it's rare that she admits to being worried about anything. Which means she's really worried!

"Can I do anything?" my voice makes her break out of the fierce concentration she had on the computer in front of her.

"I'll have to monitor them tonight and tomorrow I imagine, they aren't I the best shape, to put it lightly... they are very close to giving birth." She pauses for a second "J I don't know if either of them will survive..." she glances at me briefly and I can see the familiar pain in her eyes. My hand reaches out and squeezes her shoulder as she turns back to the screen. She takes a deep breathe, one hand coming up to cover mine and squeeze back, then says.

"Ok, that should let him in!" she flashes a smile at me, trying to cover up the fact she has a few tears leaking down her face. "Just going to see if I can hack into his car systems so that he doesn't leave the car outside..." she trails off to continue typing. "Okay all programmed... oh dam!" she's staring at the screen for a moment then she turns and races from the room, not slowly either.

"SANG?" I yell after her, then look at the screen, "Oh right! S**T!" I mutter yell before following. I almost crash into the dogs as they come in through the still open door. "Stay here!" I call over my shoulder at them when Jason goes to follow me. He snorts but stays put as I race outside just in time to catch the end of Sang's piecing whistle. She always uses it to call the horses on the few occasions that they aren't there as if by magic...

I hope you liked this I know not much really happened, but what has Jess seen? Can you guess before you read?
