PART 47: A PROMISE!

Sanemi's eyes narrowed slightly, his grip on Giyuu's face gentle but unyielding.

"Don't lie to me. I can see it in your eyes. You're scared of something."
His voice was low and even, but there was an underlying intensity to it.

"Tell me what's going on."

Giyuu swallowed hard, unsure if he should really do it.

"Now."
Sanemi insisted.

Giyuu's smile faded away, he looked at Sanemi with a concerned expression, opening his mouth as if to say something, but he closed it.
"Forget it, forget it..."

Sanemi sighed heavily, his hand dropping from Giyuu's face as he leaned back against the headboard. He didn't look pleased, but he didn't push the matter further for the moment.
"Fine. If you don't want to talk about it, I won't force you."

Giyuu smiled at him.
"Take care of yourself, Sanemi... I really enjoyed it with you... I'll be off now-"

Sanemi's expression darkened as he realized Giyuu was about to leave.
He quickly sat up, reaching out to stop him.

"Wait, you're leaving already?"
There was a note of desperation in his voice, and he couldn't quite hide the fear that Giyuu was about to walk away for good.

Giyuu nodded as he got out of bed, smiling at him.
"Where did you keep my clothes...?"

Sanemi's eyes flicked to the foot of the bed, where he'd tossed Giyuu's clothes in his haste to have him.

"Over there."
He watched as Giyuu gathered his things, his mind racing with thoughts of how to keep him here longer.

"So... what are you doing now?"
He asked.

"Just... going to my place and rest..."
Giyuu replied, turning to look at him.

Sanemi frowned, not liking the idea of Giyuu leaving all alone. He had half a mind to follow him home, but he knew he would just get upset if he did.

"I don't like the idea of you going home by yourself. How about I walk you back?"

Sanemi walking me back... He's not looking so good, maybe the fresh air outside could do him some good... It's good for him to come with me.
Giyuu thought, a faint smile playing on his lips.

"I'd love that."
He smiled, his voice sweeter than ever.

Sanemi returned the smile, relieved that Giyuu hadn't completely shut him out. He quickly threw on his usual Corps Uniform and joined Giyuu at the door, feeling more content than he had in a long time.

"Alright then, let's go."
He offered Giyuu his arm as if to guide him home.

Giyuu happily held his arm as the two walked out.

The sky was clear and bright blue, the sunlight reflecting off of the trees. The two could hear the sounds of birds flying around, chirping and flapping their wings. The fragrance of the flowers that surrounded the road, was amazing too.
A cool breeze blew, allowing them to get lost in their thoughts.
The feeling of having each other felt like a gift of God to them, and they could do almost anything to keep each other from leaving.

But the heavy feeling in Giyuu's heart was growing more and more. It grew so heavy, that he had to take the decision of talking things out with Sanemi.

He wanted to know why, Sanemi would not let him take care of him, and why he was getting even less bothered by his health.

The man, who once loved and admired his energy, power and strength... grew so weak... Giyuu loved Sanemi deeply, and he couldn't imagine a life without him. He couldn't help but question why Sanemi wasn't taking good care of himself.

Though Giyuu loved the Sanemi he was with now, something about the Sanemi in the past was better, maybe because that Sanemi was the one, the man who loved and admired himself a lot.

He loved how Sanemi self appreciated his strength and toughness. He hadn't seen any man with such courage, bravery and confidence... Which made him fall in love with Sanemi.

He sighed out, he wanted Sanemi to love himself just how he did in the past.

He looked at him, deciding to talk to him about it.

"Um... Sanemi?"

Sanemi looked down at Giyuu with a curious expression, wondering what was on his mind.

"Yeah?"
His voice was soft, almost gentle, as if he was bracing himself for whatever Giyuu might say.

Giyuu took a deep breath in.
"Wh-Why did you skip breakfast today?"

Sanemi's gaze flicked away from Giyuu's, and for a moment he looked almost guilty.
He had hoped Giyuu hadn't noticed, or maybe he'd just hoped he wouldn't mention it.

"I... I wasn't hungry."

"Liar Sanemi..."
Giyuu pouted, looking away.

"E-Eh!?"
Sanemi held Giyuu's chin, making him look at him.

"Didn't you tell me you'd listen to me last night?"
Giyuu asked, his expression a complicated mix of concern and slight anger.

Sanemi's jaw clenched, and he looked at the ground, his eyes flashing with a mix of defensiveness and vulnerability.

"I said I'd try, okay? I'm trying..."
His voice was low and gruff, but there was a hint of desperation in it.

Giyuu sighed, cupping his cheek. He wanted to lash out on Sanemi, pull him by his collar and make him understand, but he stayed quiet.

Sanemi felt a twinge of guilt, knowing he had let Giyuu down so soon after promising to do better.
He took a deep breath and tried again, his voice softer this time.

"...Look, I know it's hard for me to take care of myself, okay? It's just..."

"Shut up..."
Giyuu sighed out, clearly pissed off at Sanemi's carelessness.

Sanemi's guilt turned into a full-blown pang of sadness, and he looked away, not wanting Giyuu to see the hurt in his eyes.

"Shit... I'm sorry... I didn't mean to upset you."

Hearing Sanemi's words, Giyuu felt his heart shatter.

Is saying sorry the only thing that matters to him...?
Giyuu turned to look at him.

"You know what, I'll walk back alone. Since you can't even listen to a single thing I tell you to... There's no need to accompany me, you can just go back to your place."

Sanemi's eyes snapped back to Giyuu's, a mixture of shock and hurt flashing across his face.
He took a step forward, his hands reaching out as if to stop Giyuu.

"No, wait... Don't go... I'm sorry, okay? I'll listen, I'll try harder... I promise..."

Giyuu looked at Sanemi with disbelief, shaking his head.

"No... Sanemi... Why are you lying?"
He looked away, a mix of concern and anger in my voice.

Sanemi let his arms drop to his sides, his shoulders slumping in defeat. He looked at the ground, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I'm not lying... It's just..."

Giyuu turned around to leave.
"You don't have to come up with excuses."

Sanemi took a step forward, his voice rising in desperation.

"Wait! Don't go! Please... Don't leave me like this..."
He reached out and grabbed Giyuu's arm, his grip tight but shaking.

"I'll try, I'll really try... Just don't leave me..."

Giyuu sighed as he turned around to look at Sanemi. He smiled a little, hugging him tightly.

"Do you promise?"

Sanemi wrapped his arms around Giyuu, holding him close as if he never wanted to let go.

He rested his forehead against Giyuu's, his voice muffled but sincere.
"I promise. I'll do better. I swear it."

He took a deep breath, trying to calm his racing heart.

Giyuu smiled at the words, kissing him on the lips.

"If you're not letting me take care of you, you need to make sure to do it yourself, for me..."

Sanemi closed his eyes, feeling a warmth spread through his chest as he savored the kiss. When he opened them again, they shone with determination.
"I will. I'll take care of myself..."

Giyuu nodded, sighing softly.
"I really trust you, Sanemi..."

Sanemi's heart felt like it was about to burst with happiness at Giyuu's words. He smiled, his hand reaching up to gently cup his cheek.

"And I will never do anything to break that trust. I promise."

Giyuu held the hand Sanemi used to cup his cheek, exhaling out.
"Just... Just don't make promises you won't be able to keep, okay?"

Sanemi nodded, his smile never leaving.

Giyuu continued to walk, turning around again, looking at Sanemi over his shoulder.
"Come on now, are you going to walk me to my place or...?"

Sanemi chuckled at his teasing and grabbed his hand.

"Let's go."

Giyuu smiled, his heart leaping with joy as he saw Sanemi all smiling and happy.

You're too precious Sanemi... I don't ever want to lose you, I really hope you keep this promise...

Because,

My love for you is growing every second.
