PART 25: SUNSETS DURING SUMMERS...

It was the very next day.

Sanemi quickly woke up, taking a bath and getting dressed. He was so restless, he even refused to have breakfast.

"I'll be off!"
He said, sliding the front door open.

"Take care of yourself!"
His caretaker bowed as he walked off.

Sanemi walked fast, almost determined to reach the headquarters before it gets dark.

It was late afternoon when he finally reached, he stormed to his Estate, slamming the door shut.

"Fuck... It took me so long!"
He quickly went to take a bath, relaxing in the tub.

He sighed out.
"Finally... Finally I'm back! I can see Tomioka!"

After getting out of the tub and putting his clothes on, he quickly went to the kitchen.

"Gotta eat something..."
He made himself some riceballs, eating them while he sat in the backyard.

"Sanemi, there's a letter for you."
Sanemi's crow handed him a letter.

"Well, who could that be?"
Sanemi muttered, completely aware that it was Giyuu.

"What has he written now?"
He mumbled, opening it up.

'Shinazugawa-San, Where have you gone? I miss you.'

Sanemi's eyes widened, reading further.

'I don't know where you are, but I feel terrible as I don't get to see you anymore.
Please, come back. I want to see you.

I will always be in my Estate.

-Tomioka Giyuu.'

Sanemi blushed as he read the letter.

He wants to see me...? Well, fuck yeah! That's it, I'm going to his place.
He quickly stood up.

He kept the letter aside, sighing out excitedly.

The sun was about to set now, the sky having a golden hue.

He quickly made his way to Giyuu's Estate, standing near the front door.
He imagined Giyuu's face once he'd see him.

He excitedly knocked on the door, but there was no response.

He heard a faint humming from the backyard. The calm voice, it was Giyuu.

He peeked, finding Giyuu standing there.

Is he zoning out again...?
Sanemi wondered.

His eyes sparkled with mischief as he silently walked up to Giyuu.

"I'm back!"
He hugged him tightly from behind.

Giyuu jolted out of shock, he looked at the scar-covered hands that wrapped around his waist.

Shinazugawa-San...?

Giyuu turned back almost immediately, his eyes meeting Sanemi's purple ones.

Giyuu's eyes widened, gasping softly.

"Shinazugawa-San!"
He hugged Sanemi, so tight, it was the tightest he had ever held someone. He nuzzled against Sanemi's neck.

Sanemi chuckled softly, returning the hug, gently patting Giyuu head.

"Ne? What happened? You missed me?"
Sanemi laughed as he ruffled Giyuu's hair.

He soon stopped laughing as he felt his shirt get soaked wet.

Confused, he cupped Giyuu's cheek, making him look up at him.
Noticing Giyuu's teary eyes, his eyes widened.

"T-Tomioka!? Why the hell are you crying!!!"
Sanemi panicked, thinking that he made Giyuu cry.

Giyuu hugged Sanemi once again, weeping almost silently. His tears rolled down to Sanemi's shoulder.

"Where... Where did you go...?"
He asked, his breathing shaky.

Sanemi was in shock, seeing Giyuu cry for him.

"I... I..."
Sanemi wrapped his arms around Giyuu once again, his voice way softer now.

"I was on a mission..."

Giyuu pulled away from the hug.
"For more than a week?"

Sanemi could feel the slight anger through Giyuu's voice.

He nodded helplessly.
"I wanted to come back as fast as possible, but every night, there were new Demons there! It ended last night, I swear!"

Giyuu didn't reply, sniffling as he looked down at the ground.

Sanemi put a reassuring hand on Giyuu's shoulder.

"I did read your letters, Tomioka."
He smiled in a comforting way.

Giyuu's eyes widened, he looked up at Sanemi, pouting.

Shit! He looks mad...
Sanemi tilted his head to the side.

"Tomioka...?"

"So you did read my letters, huh?"
Giyuu asked, looking at Sanemi with suspicion.

Sanemi nodded proudly.
"Yes I did."

"And you didn't feel the importance to reply to them?"
Giyuu looked at him, his look a mix of softness and slight anger.

"A-Ah! Tomioka, I..."
Sanemi couldn't finish as Giyuu interrupted,

"It's fine... If you don't find doing that important..."
He looked at the ground, pouting silently.

Sanemi sighed out as he held Giyuu's chin, making him look up.

"I know I didn't reply. But, it's not because I didn't want to... I just don't know how to write and..."

Giyuu looked at Sanemi, his previous anger dissipating as soon as he heard those words.

"...And, I really wanted to reply to you, which is why I came here early, only to see you..."
Sanemi added with a blush, almost stunned by his own words. He rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly.

"I-I missed you too, Tomioka..."
He murmured quietly.

How embarrassing...
Sanemi's face twitched between annoyance and remorse.

"I... I'm sorry, I didn't know that. I apologise for being mad at you without any knowledge of what your circumstances were... Forgive me-"
Giyuu was interrupted as Sanemi hugged him tightly.

"Shut up now... If you're gonna be this formal with me, then forget the fact that we were ever friends!"
He muttered out.

Giyuu blushed, hugging Sanemi back.

"I'm sorry..."

"Stop apologising!"

Giyuu pulled away, chuckling softly.
"I'm so happy you're back!"

Sanemi looked at Giyuu's smiling face, his blush growing more evident.

"Tomioka..."
He cupped Giyuu's cheek, blushing even more.

"Hm?"
Giyuu looked at Sanemi, wondering what he had to say.

"I wanted to tell you something..."

"Yes...?"

"It's um..."
Sanemi blushed even more.

"It's that I-"
He paused as he quickly realised what he was about to say.

Giyuu tilted his head to the side, clueless.
"You...?"

"Uh... Nevermind!"
Sanemi chuckled nervously.

"Huh? Why won't you tell me?"

"It's nothing, forget it..."

What the fuck was that Sanemi!? What were you even doing? Stupid ass, I'll kill you someday!
Sanemi's thoughts ran across his mind.

Sanemi's gaze shifted to the sky, the deep orange and yellow colors mixing into a beautiful golden summer gleam.

"Sunsets during summers are just beautiful..."
Sanemi exhaled softly, relaxing.

Giyuu looked at the sky as well, smiling softly.

"You're right."

The two were silent, looking at the sky which was growing darker, stars scattering all over it.

The sparkling stars on the clear night sky reminded Sanemi of Giyuu's eyes. He looked over at Giyuu, smiling softly.

"Tomioka... Wanna train together sometime?"

Giyuu nodded, looking at Sanemi.
"Whenever you're free..."

"What about tomorrow, then?"

"Okay..."

The two continued to stare at the sky. They knew it was getting late, but they didn't want it to end.

Sanemi held Giyuu's hand slowly, intertwining his fingers with Giyuu's.

Giyuu gasped, looking at his hand, his face going all red.

"I love this, Tomioka... Do you?"
Sanemi asked, his eyes still fixed onto the sky.

Giyuu looked at Sanemi, admiring his affection.

He smiled softly.

"Yeah."
