PART 16: GETTING ALONG...?
A few days had passed.
It was a very windy weather today.
Demon sightings were slowly increasing, and so were the Hashira's missions.
For Sanemi, it was just another day, no missions, nothing special.
He was sitting on the backyard of his Estate, drinking tea with ohagi.
As he was sipping tea, he stared into blank space, thinking about the words Gyomei told him that day.
"What did Himejima-San mean by that...?"
He thought.
He snapped back to reality as he heard a knock on the door.
"Now who the hell-"
He got up, walking to the door.
"Tomioka?"
"Good morning, Shinazugawa-San."
Giyuu looked into Sanemi's eyes.
"Why are you here for?"
Sanemi asked.
"I... I just wanted to see you."
Sanemi's eyes widened at Giyuu's reply.
See me...?
He blushed.
"Don't just stand there, come in, idiot!"
Sanemi held the door open for Giyuu.
Just as Giyuu walked in, he found a faint smell of tea and ohagi.
"Shinazugawa-San?"
"What?"
Sanemi looked annoyed.
"Are you making ohagi...?"
Giyuu asked.
"I was..."
Sanemi rubbed the back of his neck.
"Come here, Tomioka..."
Sanemi led Giyuu to the backyard.
"I'll be right back..."
He said, walking to the kitchen to get him a cup of tea.
As Sanemi handed him the cup, Giyuu took it, sipping some as he began,
"How have you been?"
Sanemi stared at Giyuu for a moment.
"I've been... Okay... What about you? Any missions?"
He asked.
Giyuu shook his head.
"Not at the moment."
Sanemi nodded in response.
"So... Why did you want to see me anyway?"
Sanemi asked, as the silence was getting awkward.
"I just felt like visiting you."
Giyuu replied, a faint blush spread on his cheeks.
Sanemi chuckled softly to himself.
"Tomioka, wanna go outside?"
He asked all of a sudden.
"O-Outside...? But where are we going?"
Giyuu asked, standing up.
Sanemi stood up as well.
"I've decided on walking, like a long journey."
He said, thinking about their last mission when they walked a long way back to the headquarters together.
"We'll get tired..."
Giyuu replied.
Sanemi chuckled.
He picked up a box.
"I've prepared rice balls and ohagi... Just incase we're tired and hungry, hold it."
Sanemi handed it to Giyuu.
"..."
"Let's go... Shall we?"
Sanemi asked.
Giyuu smiled, nodding in response.
The two walked out of his Estate.

The weather really was windy, moving Giyuu's long hair.
Sanemi glanced at him whenever the wind blew.
"Your hair really is pretty long, huh?"
He said.
Giyuu blushed at the comment, touching his ponytail.
"Ah, yeah..."
"They say, hair holds memories..."
Sanemi said, the cool breeze moving his white hair too.
Giyuu looked at the sky, chuckling softly.
Sanemi saw a few dogs approaching them.
"Hey, Tomioka. Look at that."
Sanemi pointed out at the dogs that walked over to them.
"Hm?"
Giyuu's eyes followed Sanemi's gaze as they slowly shifted to the dogs.
What...
Giyuu looked at them, horror in his eyes.
He quickly hid behind Sanemi.
"The fuck are you doing, Tomioka?"
Sanemi asked, looking back at him with annoyance.
"..."
Giyuu was quiet.
"Hold up, don't tell me you're scared of dogs, Tomioka!"
Sanemi was trying his best to hold his laughter in as he waited for Giyuu's reply.
"..."
"...Yeah-"
Giyuu was interrupted, as Sanemi burst out laughing.
You can't laugh! You can't... Sanemi control...
Sanemi thought, but he failed to control himself.
Giyuu pouted as Sanemi laughed.
"What the fuck, Tomioka... Are you serious?"
Sanemi laughed out loud.
"It's not funny... I just... Don't like them much..."
Giyuu replied, holding onto Sanemi's haori firmly.
Sanemi chuckled at Giyuu's obvious fear.
"Hand me the box I packed, Tomioka. They're only approaching us because they're hungry."
Giyuu did as he said.
Sanemi unwrapped some food and tossed bits to the approaching dogs, who eagerly ate from his hand. He then turned back to Giyuu with a smirk.
"You should try feeding them too, Tomioka..."
"I don't-"
Giyuu was interrupted as a dog nudged against his leg, looking up at him with pleading eyes.
Sanemi chuckled.
"It seems like you have a visitor, Tomioka... Don't be afraid."
Giyuu reached his hand out to feed the dog with all his courage, but, it barked at him. He flinched with fear.
Sanemi laughed again. He threw a piece of food towards the barking dog.
"You don't need to be afraid, Tomioka."
Giyuu shook his head.
"I think they hate me."
He said.
Sanemi laughed, ruffling Giyuu's hair.
"If you act so tense around them, they're definitely going to bite you. Just..."
He paused abruptly.
"...Just be gentle."
He patted the dogs head, smiling softly.
Giyuu watched as Sanemi took care of the dogs so gently.
"What're you looking at?"
Sanemi asked as he noticed Giyuu's gaze.
A small smile played on his lips.
"A-Ah! nothing..."
Giyuu mumbled, blushing slightly.
Sanemi laughed at the sight.
"Let's head back, Tomioka..."
Giyuu looked at him as he laughed a little too, his face turning red again. He stood up, ready to leave the place.
Sanemi noticed his blush, but didn't say anything.
"Demons have started appearing again..."
He said, as the two started walking back.
Giyuu nodded in response.
"It's strange how they had suddenly disappeared. But are reappearing now..."
Sanemi agreed, his expression serious.
"It really doesn't make sense..."
After a few minutes of walking the two finally reached Sanemi's estate.
The sun was about to set, Giyuu looked at the sky.
"It's beautiful... Isn't it?"
Sanemi looked at the sky, his expression softening.
"Yeah..."
He murmured.
"I... I should head back now, I really enjoyed this day with you, Shinazugawa-San!"
Giyuu smiled.
Sanemi smiled back, his face softer than Giyuu had ever seen.
"Me too, Tomioka. This has been a... nice day."
His smile turned into a slight chuckle.
"Be careful going back, it's getting dark."
"I will, thank you for today..."
Giyuu bowed before him.
"Tch! I told you to stop being all formal, didn't I?"
Sanemi snapped, irritated by Giyuu's antics.
"I'm sorry..."
Giyuu replied.
Sanemi sighed out.
"Take care out there."
He squeezed Giyuu's shoulder, slowly releasing it.
"You should take care of yourself as well."
Giyuu smiled, finally saying a goodbye to Sanemi.
"I'll look forward to meeting you some other day!"
Giyuu said, waving from a distance.
"Yeah yeah!"
Sanemi waved back, rubbing the back of his neck as he walked in.
He let out a tired sigh.
'Tomioka...
I guess we really are...
Getting along...?'
Sanemi smiled to himself softly.
