Theo stepped forward and grabbed my wrist. And odd tingling sensation began in my chest.

"Close your eyes," Theo told me softly.

I did what he said and I felt an odd rushing sensation flow through my entire body.

"Now open your eyes," Theo whispered.

The first thing I saw when I opened my eyes was a small log cabin, sitting all alone in the middle of a large desert.

I could feel the hot, dry air and the sun shined down on me nonstop.

Theo stood beside me frowning deeply.

"We're here," he whispered.

I looked up when I heard horses galloping toward me. I stumbled back narrowly avoiding being trampled by the seven men on the horses.

"Where are we?" I asked Theo.

"We are in the past so to speak. Back in my memory before the curse happened," he informed me.

One of the men who had been on the horses got off and knocked on the cabin door. A woman answered the door. The woman was beautiful with long, dark, red, hair and light blue eyes. She had slightly curved elfin ears letting me know that she wasn't human.

But what caught my attention was the fact that she was heavily pregnant. Her stomach was large and very prominent even though she wore a loose fitting gown.

My eyes widened as I took in her appearance "W-who is that?" I asked him.

For a long, while Theo was silent, then he let out a sigh and turned away from me. "That's my wife Cara," he whispered.

He glanced at her but quickly looked away biting his lip, it was like it hurt for him to even look at her.

I wanted to ask questions but I decided it was best not to.

"Is he here?" The man asked Cara.

She sighed, "Is who here?"

"Don't play dumb with me woman, is that thing here? We need his abilities now," the man told her slowly.

Cara folded her arms and looked down her nose at the man even though she was shorter than him. "He is my husband and he has a name. I will not get him until you refer to him as such," she informed him slowly.

The man gritted his teeth, "Get fucking, Theo out here you bitch."

Cara smiled,"There you go, see was that so hard. We may not be human but we do have names."

"Theo!" She called over her shoulder.

After a few moments, Theo did appear by Cara's side, but I didn't recognize him. He had curved ears like Cara, however, his skin was a purplish bluish color while Cara was white.

His eyes were a dark red color almost matching her hair.

I frowned deeply, "What were you?" I asked the Theo I came with.

"I was half ghoul and half banshee a really odd combo. But...Cara didn't care," he muttered.

The Theo standing next to Cara let out a sigh when he saw the man. "What do you want?" He grumbled. I noticed that he had that strange accent again.

"We need you to do the ritual again, people are disappearing and turning up dead. Only you know how to do it," the man told Theo.

However, Theo shook his head, "No, I'm not doing it anymore. It puts too much stress on me and I need to be here for Cara. Plus I can't take sacrificing those children anymore. Not when I'm about to have one of my own. If you want to stop the shadow attacks, then migrate. You're a small village so it'll be easy, plus it's not winter," he told the man.

Theo looked at Cara and Cara smiled back.

The man glared at them, "You selfish inhumane bastard! You don't understand! We can't migrate, we have sick people who need the ritual to cure them!"

Theo sighed, "I said no."

The man gritted his teeth and I suddenly heard a loud bang. Almost like thunder, it took me a second to realize it was a gunshot.

One of the men on the horses had shot Clara. I stared with wide eyes as a large red stain slowly began to spread over the front of her nightgown.

Theo caught her as she fell to the floor. "Cara! Cara! Hold on, please hold on for me," he pleaded.

I could only watch in horror as the man who had been talking to Theo, unsheathed a knife and plunged it into his back. However, he didn't do it once he kept stabbing Theo in the back until his back was nothing more than a bloody mess.

The man stood back and let out a sigh, "Inhuman filth, we shall seek God's help. Choke on your words along with your blood," he told Theo.

I noticed Theo was mumbling something almost like he was chanting something, as I listened more closely I could hear it.

"I will be fear,

I will be the nightmare in your dreams,

I will be the thing that keeps you up at night,

Fear me, creatures of light, for I am your worst nightmare."

I saw the shadows in every corner of the room crawl over and cloak Theo's bloody body then they dispersed and his body was gone. A moment later the shadows forced themselves down each man's throat. All seven of them began screaming.

I opened my eyes as the memory faded. Theo leaned away from me his eyes closed taking deep breaths.

"What happened to the other men you cursed. Right now you're only attached to, Nathan?" I asked slowly.

Theo slowly opened his eyes and let out a sigh. "You're very observant. I kind of dislike that. The other men committed suicide. I drove them to the far breaking points of insanity until they took their own lives. His ancestor was the only one resilient enough to endure my torment," he explained.

Then he gently touched my wrist again. "You've been marked by the Shadows, but it's a very beautiful looking mark in my opinion as long as you ignore what it does," he said.

I let out a small snort but froze when Theo held my hand. "What are you doing?" I asked him.

"Please let me do this. I need to calm down especially after that," he whispered softly.

That night, I was able to finally peacefully fall asleep as I lay there holding the hand of the Bogeyman.
