Pattons past presented!
Roman didn't know how they were going to get the tracker on this guy, but logic said he could do it, and Roman trusted the nerd.
Logan had no idea if morality would come to work the next day, but by some miracle of god, or allah, or plot convince, or science he was.
Patton looked up from where he was helping the children and his smile became cold. He pressed a finger to his lips in a shush gesture, his eyes dark and threatening. Logan nodded and mouthed 'I'll keep quite' 'good' came the silent reply.
Logan got on with his work and tried to figure out how to get close enough to plant the bug without arousing suspicion, but he didn't have to.
Around half an hour later, the children utterly absorbed with the puppies and books patton made his way over to the desk.
Logan rearaged his facial expression to a fearful one, and made his voice shake as if he was terrified.
"Hhello— hell—hello p-patton"
Patton smiled
"Hiya logan... look, I'm really sorry about yesterday... I like you a lot, your a great guy, honest! And... as long as you don't ask to many questions I see no reason we can't get along we could even be friends!"
Logan saw his chance. Still playing the fearful persona, he stood up
"Promise you wont hurt me?"
Patton smiled as though logan was an adorable puppy or something I KnoW woRDS
"As long as I have no reason to Logie"
"O-ok"
And under the guise of a hug, logan slipped the bug into the cardigans pocket.
Patton eventually held logan at arms length
"I'm glad we agree LoLo. I gotta go, Heh that rhymes."
Logan pulled out his work phone and sent a text
Logic:
Dear roman,
Mission successful.
- logic
The reply was immediate
Roman:
Great
Roman:
Btw, you dont need to sign texts
Logic:
Dear Roman,
Understood
- Logic
And he put the phone back in his pocket.
Patton hated putting on this creepy persona, but if he could scare logan off, the other man would be much safer. As he left the libary he reminded himself that he needed to keep his scary (metaphorical) mask on for a few hours more.
As he neared the apartment he pulled a robbers mask out of his backpack and pulled it over his face.
He hated doing this, but his dark strange son couldn't know patton was working for his older brother, couldn't know exactly how much decite cared or how far he'd go to protect Virgil; no... He couldn't know.
Patton drifted into thought as he walked down the hallway to the apartment.
He could remember the day he started his work well
———————————————
Patton was sitting outside an office, unable to see who was inside.
His best friend- Virgil - had a two person apartment the other tenant, poor man, had been involved in a fatal hit and run, so after a few months, when Virgil could no longer afford the rent alone, he'd advertised the room for rent.
Patton had been first in line: a chance to see his friend all the time without an hours drive? Sure!
This meeting with the buildings owner would decide if he was allowed to move in.
The door opened.
Now, Patton was never one to judge someone for tattoos (unless they were offensive) but he had to question if this man had made a drunken mistake earlier in his life.
He had scales, tattooed all along one side of his face.
"Patton Heart, I presume?"
When patton nodded the man gave a hissing laugh.
"Excellent. You will call me deceit."
Patton felt very intimidated by this man.
He tried to speak, but he found himself unable to, so he merely nodded.
Deceit didn't seem to care
"I understand that you and Virgil are close?"
He nodded again.
"How close exactly heart?"
Patton forced himself to speak "he's.. my best friend... if it came down to him or me... I'd die for him."
The man looked happily surprised by this, but swiftly returned his face to a mask.
"I run an empire, Patton. And, as a result of this, I have many... shall we say... hmm... adversaries, who are not below attempting to harm those I care about to get to me. I am willing to allow you to live here, free of charge and pay off any debts, including student loans, you will ever have, so long as you protect Virgil and do me the occasional favour. As long as you are in my service, you'll be debt free... do we have a deal?"
Yes.
———————————————
Roman had been following this dude for several blocks when he pulled a hood over his head and began to stalk towards his final destination.
With a jolt, Roman realised where they were...
Outside anxiety's apartment!
Anxiety was in danger!
Hang on... why did he care?
'Because you LO—'
Began a tiny voice in his head.
Roman shut it down.
There was no way he had feelings for the hacker other than unadulterated loathing.
Patton (logan had told him the man's name) kicked in the other door.
Roman heard a confused grunt, a yell, a slight struggle and then... nothing.
About 5 minutes later patton reamerged, holding the limp form of anxiety in his arms.
CHOOSE
Roman saves Virgil then and there
(Pros: knight in shining armour ro? Le swoon! Cons: alerts Patton (thus deceit)to the tracker)
Roman follows and watches for now
(Pros: info?? Cons: what's going to happen to Virgil? Brother or not a dangerous man is angry with him.)
Sorry it took so long.
Also I just realised I've been spelling deceit wrong the entire time, offa.
To prevent confusion the:——— represented the start/end of a memory.
