There were many holidays the sides celebrated together. Whether it be Christmas, New Years, 4th of July, or Easter they were required by Patton to hang out together and do whatever fun activities he and Roman had put together. There was one holiday that no one seemed to celebrate however, and that day was Valentine's. Sure they all understood that there was a shared mutual respect between them, but the most festive thing Patton and Roman would do that day was bake heart shaped cookies and distribute them out.
While the cookies tasted great, it was always on this day that something tugged at the logical aspect's figurative heart strings. Valentine's day was supposed to be about love which Logan played no part in, so why was he, of all people, feeling something? Although it was only in the morning, he couldn't help but sense the feeling was growing as it always did on this nonsensical day. It had started as a dull seed in the pit of his belly when he woke up, and now he felt it sprout, seeding itself deep into where his heart would be.
It was a weird feeling, but after a few minutes of consideration he knew what the emotion was prompting him to do. He wanted to give something to someone, but not just anyone, to Virgil. I guess it was logical reasoning that one gives something on Valentine's day, but the other sides had never done anything of the sort before. And when Logan actually did find something to give Virgil, he might laugh in response or think of it as a joke.
Logan sat at his desk arguing with himself about the matter until he realized his emotions were growing the more he thought about it. Why did he want to give something to Virgil in the first place? There had to be a better excuse to tell Virgil than "It's just Valentine's Day," when the time came. He pondered his and Virgil's recent interactions. They had been spending more time together than what was considered normal, just sitting in silence and enjoying each other's company. Perhaps what Logan was feeling was gratitude or even appreciation for his fellow side. Now, that was an idea he could reason with.
Even if he had the why and who figured out, what was the next question. What would he get Virgil? He had already given him a gift card for his first Christmas with him, noise cancelling earphones and ear muffs the next, and some fidget gadgets last year. So what the edgiest side, who despised all things pink and red, enjoy receiving as a Valentine's Day gift?
He quickly pulled up his laptop and searched for varying ideas that the emo might like. One thing he found was a must: dark chocolate. It reduces stress, anxiety, and can be bittersweet, much like how he saw Virgil in most instances during the Sander's Sides videos. He knew Virgil already had a large plethora of stuffed animals, but he did remember that a few weeks ago Roman accidentally sliced through his favorite bean bag chair. With two good presents so far, he sought out to obtain them from the master of conjuration himself, Roman.
"Hello Nerd. Happy Valentines Day. What can I do for you?"
"I..." Logan looked at his list, wondering if it would be too obvious to Roman who the items were actually for.
"I'd like to request these things from you." He handed the list to Roman who took one look at it, and grinned at Logan.
"Dark chocolate and a purple and black bean bag chair?" Roman chuckled and Logan felt his cheeks heat up.
"That's adorable Logan, but you know what else should be on that list?"
"W-what?" Logan watched as the prince conjured the bean bag chair and two bars of Dove Dark Chocolate. Roman winked and handed the bars to him.
"It's his favorite." Logan nodded and attempted to retrieve the list as well when Roman held it out of his reach. "Ah ah ah. I'm not done yet." He flicked the piece of paper and handed it back to Logan. When the logical aspect read the new words his emotions quickly spiked, lighting his whole face on fire. "What's it say? Go on read it out loud."
"What?! I can't give him this!"
"Just read it nerdicus."
Logan sighed. "Admit One: Free 1 Hour...cuddle session." Logan put what once was his list back into his pocket and rubbed his face. "He won't like it!"
"Just trust me on this." Roman winked, and pushed Logan out of his room. "Now go and give your crush his gifts."
Logan squawked indignantly. "What?! He's not my crush! I'm merely showing him my appreciation."
"Uh-huh, so why did you come to me if you knew my name was derived from Romance?" Logan said nothing and stomped off, holding the gifts in his arms.
"Denial's the clencher Logan." Roman called after shutting his door. Logan pretended not to hear him. He couldn't be in love, could he? Truth be told as he walked back to his room, his confidence began to dwindle. Perhaps the feeling he was having were the tummy butterflies Patton was trying to explain to him a few days back. Although he wasn't sure how butterflies could even get into a stomach in the first place.
He didn't have much time to deduce what he was feeling, because there standing at his door was none other than the emo himself, grasping a navy blue gift bag with a galaxy imprint. Logan's words practically failed him as they locked eyes. Virgil quickly coughed and hid the bag behind his back.
"Uh. Hey. Sorry-" Virgil's words seemed to fail him as well when he saw the things Logan was carrying. Now it was Logan's turn to cough. They met each other's eyes again, staring in silence as both of their faces matched the same shade of bright red. Logan was finally able to swallow the lump in his throat.
"H-happy Valentine's Day." He finally said, now completely convinced that the intense reaction he had within the emo's presence was a form of attraction. Virgil, to his surprise, grinned at the words and shyly brought the bag back out from behind him.
"Happy...Valentine's Day." He responded. Logan took a deep breath and walked up to him.
"We should...maybe talk?"
"Yeah," Virgil agreed. "We should." And talk they did. Finally, after some explanation and some confession Virgil and Logan did in fact have feelings for each other. It was an odd change for Logan, but not an unwelcome one. They went well together, and balanced the other out where one couldn't compensate. But, it didn't change the fact that Logan was still dreading the gift giving.
Virgil wanted Logan to open his first, so he did and found an assortment of pens, stationary, and a new computer mouse, since his last one had broken. He was delighted and almost thankful that there was no card. He and Virgil weren't wordsmiths in that regard, so Virgil seemed to have a bit of relief on his face as well when there was no card involved on his side. He seemed appreciative enough of the dark chocolate, and sunk into the bean bag with a smile on his face.
Logan felt like he was going to hate himself after this next part though. "I'm going to be honest, I consulted Roman for my last gift idea." Virgil's eyes blew a little wide at that.
"Okay...?"
"He...told me to trust him, and...that you would enjoy this, but you have...every right to refuse it if you don't." Logan reached into his pocket and pulled out the paper. He gave it to Virgil upside down.
Once Virgil read it, he had the exact same reaction as Logan. "Wh-what?! How did he-how did you?!"
Logan cringed, but Virgil got up and pulled Logan into a hug. "Thank you." Logan waved his arms a little, before settling them down onto Virgil's back. This was not the action he expected, but the warmth and closeness was welcome.
"I'm gonna use that coupon now." Virgil said dragging a sputtering Logan onto his bed and securing him so he couldn't get away.
"Right now?" Logan asked incredulously
"Yup." Virgil responded, resting his face into Logan's neck. So this was his fate? At least he could get a closer look at his new boyfriend. Logan took the time to study Virgil's face. He was resting peacefully, no sign of stress or He even had the faintest smile curving his lips. Virgil must have noticed him staring, because one of his eyes opened.
"You good?" Logan's blush came back full force, but he could at least try to flirt with the man he had fallen for.
"Oh nothing, I was just admiring your adorableness."
"What? I'm not adorable." Virgil countered, but his eyes sparkled with joy.
"Falsehood."
"Nothing about me is cute." Logan hummed in thought and felt around Virgil's back until he found what he thought might be a tickle spot. Virgil actually squeaked when he tweaked his side.
Logan's eyebrows raised. "I believe I have just found some evidence."
"You found nothing." Virgil covered his mouth, but Logan just tweaked the side again. Both hands flew down to pry Logan's hand from his tickle spot, but he only chuckled and moved his other hand to flutter along his neck.
"How about here?" Virgil scrunched up his neck and bat at Logan's hand half-heartedly.
"Hohohow about NAHAT!?"
"Not there? Alright then." Logan's hand slipped in between their forms and it found Virgils ribs and tummy. Virgil actually shrieked, letting go of Logan and trying to push himself under his covers to escape the pair of tickling hands. The logical aspect's arms quickly held Virgil in place and began to pull him back out of the blankets.
"AAh! No! This isn't cuddling!" Virgil squirmed, but Logan pulled him out and he now had direct access to his lower body. In an instant, Logan grasped his kneecap making his boyfriend gasp out a profanity. Logan tweaked again, this time getting another little squeak.
"Eheheheh! Alright wise guy. You asked for it!" Logan had completely underestimated Virgil's true strength because in moments he was pinned to the bed and the feeling of fingers wiggled into his hips. Unable to restrain his laughter or the butterflies in his tummy, Logan's reaction was instantaneous. Oh, it was horrible, but he was positive the look on Virgil's face was worth any tickling he could ever receive.
"Aww, Lo. And you're calling me adorable. This is just precious." Logan fought off Virgil's hands that were casually making their way underneath his shirt. He finally regained the upper hand with a wiggles to Virgil's bare feet. And so the tickle fight continued for perhaps another three minutes, until they finally nestled together giving gentle strokes to the spots they had previously wrecked so ruthlessly. Logan was running his hand through Virgil's hair, enjoying this rare tender moment.
"Happy Valentine's day, Logan." He smiled.
"Happy Valentine's day, Virgil." He repeated, the name rolling off of his lips like the dark chocolate Virgil ate not moments before. And as they rested there in each other's arms, Logan let himself sigh. The butterflies inside of him had slowly ceased their angry flitting movements, leaving him with a fuzzy feeling that grew out from that pit in his belly. It only took him a few seconds to understand what had happened, but if there was one thing he knew for sure, his love had bloomed.
