Chapter 57

Prompt: 'Patton, Roman, and Logan are walking around with Virgil in town and they run into one of their parents who're mad'

Heyoo
Yalls ready for another chapter? Cause woo
This has mentions of child neglect and similar themes in it, not the actual act, just brief mention of it.
It also has some kind of hinting towards spicy times, but no actual spicy times, mostly just flirting. And it's barely mentioned.

"Oh come on Patty-cake, just a few kisses?" Roman basically pleaded as the four of them walked down the street. It was some point in the afternoon, and was almost warm enough day for them to head out without their winter cloaks -the snow had even beginning to melt away some -not by much though.

The perfect day for Corona's coming-of-spring-festival. They had a legitimate spring festival later on in the year, but the coming-of-spring-festival was basically said spring festival fused together with some winter activities and treats. Crocuses and other small plants had begun to sprout from thin patches of snow, making everything look much prettier than the white snow did by itself.

"Nope, we're not going to stop and make-out until a little later, okay?" Patton said as he gave Roman an stern look paired with an apologetic smile, "I promise that we can make out as much as you want later from at least me, I can't say anything for Lo and Virge."

"I'm open to kisses later," Virgil said, and Logan hummed in agreement.

"But that's later," Roman whined, "we don't even know when that is." He added. "You guys are all so pretty and it's no fun when I can't give the people I love kisses."

"There's a difference between sweet kisses, and pinning one of us to a wall to try and suck our soul out with a very arousing make-out session."

"So you'll just have to wait then I guess," Virgil said with a shrug as he shook his head slightly, "it's a shame really."

"...I'm trying to decide whether I'm going to withhold kisses from you for that comment, or if I'm going to kiss you so much your lips turn red and are too sore to even smile." Roman said, and a bright red blush crept up onto Virgil's face as he shot roman a glare.

"We're in public might I remind you." He whispered to him, his face a burning crimson.

"Yes I'm well aware," Roman said, smirking, "I just like to see you blush love, don't worry I'll keep my voice down when I tease you." He said cheekily

Virgil's face flushed an even darker shade of red, and he huffed softly "I don't know about that -maybe I'll be the one to make you flush all red."

"What happened to us being in public?" Roman asked with a smirk.

"I never said I'd be making you blush out here -the only people I want to see you like that are Patton, Logan and I." Virgil said, his blush still burning his cheeks as he leaned his head in closer towards Roman, his mouth hovering next to his ear. "You'll have to wait, and if you're a good boy I might be interested in having a bit more fun than just kissing later tonight." He added, his voice only loud enough for the three of them to hear -his words prompting all of them to blush various shades of red.

"...and you got upset with me saying stuff while we're in public." Roman said with a huff as he looked away, his cheeks a flaming cherry red.

All he got was a small laugh in response from Virgil, before he and the others walked up to one of the game stands set up.

The streets, while still snowy, where decorated with strings of small paper flowers, all in various shades of light purples, pinks, and yellows, along with a few lanterns hanging here and there, each panted with either winter or spring designs.
The food carts still sold hot foods to help battle against the nipping cold that was still present, but had many more sweet and sugary delights than the winter festival had. Apparently the legitimate spring festival had even better food, but Virgil wasn't all convinced since the food was already very good.

People came from all over for Corona's festivals, particularly the spring and summer ones, so the streets were crowded with both locals and tourists -you'd think it'd be impossible to bump into somebody you know with the amount of strangers around, unfortunately that wasn't the case sometimes.

"Oh goodness you must be his highness," a tall woman with long dark chocolate brown hair and eyes so dark the brown was almost black, said with a smile. "I'd recognize the purple eyes of the Coronian line anywhere." She added. She was wearing a long, deep blue dress with bits of silver embroidery, with what looked like a thin felt cloak that really only covered her arms and torso before stopping around her waist and hips. Next to her stood a man with hair just as dark, eyes that were pale grey almost blue, with similarly colored and decorated clothing. Both of them were pale skinned, and looked very refined, and the man -who could be assumed to be her husband- had a stern look to his face.

"Ah, yes, it's wonderful to meet you, Miss...?" Virgil trailed off, not knowing her name.

"Oh, Croft, I am Lady Amelia Croft, and this is my husband, the Lord Edmund Croft," she said, "we're from over seas, just across the way, not even three days boat ride." She said, "you'll have to excuse my husband -he doesn't speak much." She said with an apologetic smile.

"Oh it's no problem at all," Virgil said kindly, "well, I hope you enjoy the festival, good-"

"Oh just one second," she interrupted kindly, "I can't help but notice one of your colleagues is...strikingly familiar." She said, stating past Virgil and to the other three, "I say...do I know you?"

Virgil turned to see who she was taking to, and saw Logan pinned under her gaze like a moth on display to be ooh-ed and aah-ed at.

"I'd think not," Logan said, his voice surprisingly clipped and almost cold, "I'm sure I'd remember meeting a Lord and Lady."

"Yes, yes I'm sure you would..." Amelia trailed off, her eyes not leaving Logan's blank face. "But you look just like..." she suddenly paused as a flash of recognition passed across her face. "No wait, are you-"

"I don't know what conclusion you've jumped to, but I can assure you you're incorrect." Logan interrupted.

"No, no I'm sure of it -I could never forget your face," she said as she took a step forwards and reached her hand up, "yes I can see it in your eyes, you're-"

"-Not who you think I am," Logan interrupted while grabbing her wrist before she could touch his face. "I am sorry to disappoint, but you are mistaken."

He let her go before taking a step back. "Patton, there was a shop you wanted to look at over this way correct? We should hurry before it closes." He said, suddenly changing topics as he turned to look away from the Lord and Lady and instead look at the three of them, his gaze softening as he did and almost turning...pleading.

"Oh! Um yes!" Patton said, snapped out of his previously confused state as he nodded quickly, "it closes soon so I'd love to go there now -are you willing to walk with me?"

"Of course, I'd love to walk with you there," Logan said with a kind smile that didn't quite reach his eyes.

"Ah, we should be leaving with them too," Roman said, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly as he gave the lord and lady an apologetic smile.

"Yes, sorry for the abrupt departure -I'm sure my parents would love to speak with you though, enjoy the festival." Virgil said, mimicking Roman's apologetic smile, before quickly walking off in the direction Patton and Logan had already begun heading towards, Roman sticking close to his side.

The four of them eventually stopped walking when they got to a less populated area of town, taking a seat underneath some frosted trees, not minding the snow. Nobody was around them, except for some children far away playing in the snow, so they had some amount of privacy.

"I'm...I'm sorry about that," Logan said awkwardly, his shoulders slightly hunched as he sat stiffly against the trunk of the tree, "I didn't mean to make any of you feel uncomfortable with my...actions."

"Oh, no it's okay Lo-lo," Patton said reassuringly, "you didn't make me uncomfortable, and I don't think you made Virgil or Roman uncomfortable either...?" He added, trailing off as he cast the other two a curious glance.

"Nah I wasn't uncomfortable," Roman said, Virgil nodding in agreement, "I was more concerned than anything." He added. "You weren't quite acting like yourself."

Logan frowned and Virgil watched as he looked down at his lap where his hands were clasped tightly.

There was a beat of silence where none of them said anything, it was far more awkward than any of them wanted.

"...did you know them Logan?" Patton eventually asked, "it's okay if you do! And you don't need to tell us how if you don't want to, it's just-" Patton cut himself off as Logan held up a hand to quite him, an almost nervous look on his usually calm and collected boyfriends face.

"Yes I know them, or I should say knew them," Logan began, "I haven't seen them in many years."

"Who are they to you?" Roman asked after a short moment, his voice soft and gentle.

Logan didn't speak for a few seconds, as if he was mentally debating with himself about what he should say, or if he should say anything at all.

Something must have settled in his mind, because then he was taking a deep breath before looking up at them.

"They're my parents." He said, his voice soft yet clear, not an ounce of mumbling or hesitance.

"Your...parents? Like, mother and father?" Roman asked, looking just as surprised as Virgil and Patton.

"Yes," Logan said as he adjusted his glasses, "they are the ones who produced me into this world, and...raised me for most of my childhood." He addd, although he said the last part kind of funny -not funny ha-ha, more like funny as in strange, but virgil couldn't put his finger on how so.

"Do you, um, not get along?" Patton asked, "I've never heard you talk about them -I actually thought you were an orphan, like Roman and I." He added somewhat sheepishly, but the curiosity was still there.

"No, we didn't get along." Logan said as he shook his head slightly, "they had very high expectations for me -every ounce of time was dedicated to studying and other lessons in order to be ready for when I inherited their land and lordship," he said, "no personal time for myself unless I wanted to carve it out of my schedule on my own somehow -by either doing more than one task at once, or cutting into my sleep schedule."

"That's not healthy," Patton said softly, a small frown on his face.

"That's probably how you picked up your kinda warped sense of balance when it comes to work time and you time." Roman mumbled softly, but Logan heard him and nodded in agreement.

"I honestly didn't mind that part too much, even though I now it's not healthy." he admitted, "I was able to keep up with things for the most part, my instructors where kind most of the time, and my parents were happy that I was years beyond my level for my age group." He continued, "of course there were times where I'd fall behind or not do well on certain things, and they became upset and would take away things I had in order to try and make me focus on work more -like my books unrelated to schoolwork, a telescope, my journals, anything that either wasn't needed for school or was dubbed a distraction would be taken if I didn't meet their expectations, and only returned when I had exceeded their expectations."

"My sister, who's two years younger than I am, had never been expected to become a Lady for my parents estate, I was the firstborn so I had the inheritance and the responsibility -she wasn't put under the same pressure I was. She was allowed to fail, allowed to...allowed to go out and be herself. She brought friends home, had free time to do what she wished." He said, his hands curling up into fists in his lap, "I was horrendously jealous." He admitted. "She never rubbed it in my face, and would actually convince my parents to let me play with her from time to time, so I'm not jealous of her specifically, just..." he trailed off, apparently unable to find the words.

"You were jealous she could do everything you couldn't." Roman said softly, moving to put his hand on Logan's knee comfortingly, "Jealous that they treated her different from you."

"...Yes, yes I was." Logan agreed softly.

"I finally got fed up when I was ten or so, I'd passed out from exhaustion and they hadn't even acknowledged it when I woke up -instead they scolded me for missing my lessons, going on about how if I was going to miss the lessons then maybe they should just stop paying for them." He explained, "and I just...lashed out. I yelled at them about what I was feeling and how I thought it was unfair, it created a large scene that a majority of the house staff witnessed. They didn't like that."

"What happened?"

"They put me in a room with locked windows and only a bed, a wardrobe, and a small bathroom the size of a shoe closet." He said, "I stayed there for a while, maybe a week or two, my only interactions were with people who brought me food, and my teachers -although my sister came at one point, practically begged the men stationed outside the door to let her in. It turned out she had managed to sneak some cookies and black berries from the kitchens and had brought them to cheer me up, she was sweet like that." He said, a small smile on his face.

"I, um, I decided to leave maybe a year or two later," he said, "they'd made me an arranged marriage with the daughter of a count from a different kingdom in hopes of raising the family status, from lord and lady to count and countess," he explained, "I'd met her before and didn't like her at all, and she didn't like me, but they wouldn't listen to me when I told them that, they were only focused on increasing their status and ignored what I was saying -so I snuck out and got on to a ship heading towards a different coastal kingdom along this side of the sea," he explained.

"I'd been to Corona before on a trip, so I decided to buy myself a ride with what money I'd managed to bring with me from that kingdom to here -which is where I met Roman and Patton, and then everything else is just history." He finished. "I never planned on seeing them again." He admitted.

"Do you know if they ever looked for you?" Virgil asked softly, his voice barely louder than a whisper. He couldn't imagine having parents who wouldn't look for their child if they disappeared -his parents had looked for many years and kept sending out a signal every year after they'd stopped actually searching. That had no signs for 18 years, but they had still clung to hope for him returning home -Logan hadn't been gone his whole life, even though six or seven years was still a long time, so they should have looked for him right?

"I didn't see any posters or hear any gossip about it," he said as he shook his head, "they probably think I dead by now -so seeing me was probably a shock."

"Do you want to try to talk to them? Or at least your sister?" Patton asked.

"No, I know what they're like and if they learn I'm friends with Virgil -a prince- let alone dating him, they'll just become selfish or greedy and I don't want to give them the pleasure or satisfaction of benefiting from our relationship after everything." He said, "seeing my sister would be nice, if she even wants to see me -I did leave her alone over there, she was probably given the role as heir and all the pressure and responsibility that comes with it." He added, sounded sheepish and almost guilty -or even ashamed.

"I'm sure she'd love to see you again, I doubt she'd blame you for leaving." Roman assured, squeezing Logan's knee gently.

"Perhaps." Logan said.

"Do you...um, do you want to talk about it at all?" Patton asked, shifting slightly, his face nervous almost, as if he wasn't sure if Logan wanted to talk and what to do if he did or didn't want to.

"No I'm fine now," Logan said as he shook his head, "I've gotten over it, I know what they did was not appropriate and was unfair to me and my sister, and I plan to hold them accountable to that if we should ever meet again in the future and have to talk, theres no use dragging up old memories that have already been put to rest."

"Okay, but if you ever want to talk you can." Patton said, a small smile on his face. "And hey, we probably won't see them again, at least not today," he added, "the festival attracts a lot of people, so I doubt we'll bump into them."

"That's true," Roman said, "and we could stay here for a bit longer if you want -or we could get back to the festival as a distraction." He suggested.

"I'm fine with either," Logan said, "you guys are technically as much of a distraction as the festival is, but we can go back to the festival if you'd like to."

"I'm also fine with either," Virgil said, "we can chill here or go have fun, both sound nice to me."

"I'm going to ignore the fact that you made an unintentional pun, and say I think it'd be fun to go back to the festival for a bit -we could play more games and try some food." Patton said, "I also heard there were some contests happing in the square at some point."

"Alright, I'm fine with going back to the festival," Roman said, before he leaned over and pressed a kiss to Logan's cheek, "if we bump into your parents again then we can find an excuse to slip away, don't worry about a thing love." He assured with a grin.

"I appreciate it, really." Logan said, returning Romans smile before standing up and brushing the snow off of himself.

The four of them quickly made their way back to the more populated areas of town and rejoined the festivities, effectively distracting them from the earlier events.

Until maybe an hour later that is.

"Ah! Excuse me, prince Virgil!" A guard said as he ran up to the four of them, "sorry to bother you, your highness, but your parents have requested the presence of you and your three friends as soon as possible." He said, sounding a little out of breath -he must have ran to find them.

"Oh," Virgil said, both surprised and a little concerned, "we can go there now, right?" He asked, casting a glance at his three boyfriends.

"Yeah of course, as long as it won't take too long -I'm sure we can miss an hour or so of the festival." Roman said while Patton and Logan nodded in agreement.

The four were quickly led back up to the castle and to a decently sized tea room near the front entrance.

Virgil's parents were seated at the table with a steaming pot of tea between them and a trio of 'would be' strangers sitting score from them.

"Ah you're here! Sorry for disturbing you dear, theres just been a small, ahem, situation brought up to us." His mother said upon Virgil, Roman, Logan and Patton walking into the room. "This hopefully won't take long though." She added.

Before any of them could respond the woman -Logan's mother- stood up from the seat she had previously taken across from Virgil's mother.

"It has come to our attention," she began, "that you-" she pointed to Logan, "are in fact, Logan Croft, our supposedly deceased son." She said, her gaze serious. "Do you deny this or are you truly my son?"

There was a short pause where Logan stared back her her, blue eyes meeting dark brown, before Logan stood up straighter.

"My name is in fact Logan Croft, but I am not your son." His said, his words sharp and crisp, as if trying to leave no room for argument.

"If you're Logan Croft than that does make you my son, seeing as-"

"In a sense of blood relation then yes, you are the woman who birthed me," Logan interrupted, much to the woman's obvious annoyance, "but I haven't been your son in a long time, Amelia, and I doubt I ever will be again." He added, and if his mother was surprised he used her real name instead of calling her 'mother' she didn't show it, instead of surprise her face twisted into a look of anger.

"Just because you decided to runaway does not mean you aren't my child!" She snapped, "I raised you up until you left, you're my son, there's nothing else you could be-"

"I'm not your son," Logan interrupted again, his voice raising slightly.

"Yes you are! And you decided to be selfish and leave just because you didn't get what you wanted like a spoiled brat," she hissed, "you left your father, your sister and I all behind to think you were dead, and after all these years it turns out you're not dead and have been living happy over here in this kingdom being a-a-a a thief!! I saw an old wanted poster for you and your two other friends in a shop in town!" She continued, "how is it that you can be my son but still end up this stupid?"

"Don't call him stupid!" Patton cut in, an almost angry look on his face, but he was entirely ignored.

"-how can you be so selfish! Do you know how much your sister cried when you left? It broke her heart-"

"And it didn't break yours? You didn't cry at all? How typical-"

"Oh is that why you left? To make us cry and think you were dead while you ran off to become a criminal? Of all the selfish things-"

"I left because I hated it there! the name, the inheritance, the title -I don't want any of it," Logan snapped, cutting her off again. "just because you raised me does not mean I am required to do what you want me to with my life, I am not indebted to you for deciding you wanted to have a child, it was your own decision and you can't control me like some pet." He took a small pause, and his voice quietly greatly from the loud volume it had previously been at. "My only regret, about any of this, is not telling my sister I was leaving -she's the only thing I miss about back then." He said, casting a glance at the third person sitting in the chair they hadn't met yet.

She had pale skin and long curling dark chocolate locks, and vibrant blue eyes that stood out well in comparison to the dark -almost black- blue her dress and cloak were. She looked distressed over the current situation yet also collected in a way, like a well-kept mess.

"I'm sorry I made you cry and think that I was gone, I'm sorry I put you under the pressure as heir, I just couldn't take it anymore and I wasn't confident in my abilities to keep you safe if I were to take you with me back then." He said, a frown on his face, "I hope that you can forgive me but I understand if you can't."

"Don't try to change the subject Logan, we're not-"

"Of course I forgive you," his sister suddenly said as she stood, cutting her mother off -which surprised the other woman greatly.

"I mean, I was very upset when you left -both because you were gone and because you'd left me- but I can understand now," she said as glanced over at her mother and father before gently biting her lip between her teeth nervously.

Their mother took a deep breath before she looked back at long, "well, you can't stay here, it's about time you returned home -you've already been stripped of your inheritance and the title as heir, but like it or not you are my child and you will do what I say, and after all these years I'd say it's about time for you to come home."

"If I may cut in," Virgil's mother suddenly piped up, "from one mother to another, I'd, ahem, like to talk about a couple of things." She began.

"For one, don't ever call a child in my halls stupid again -I don't care if he's 18 or 19 he's still a child to me- and if he doesn't want to go 'home' with you then you should listen to what he's saying and try to form a compromise if you can -maybe you could visit him if he's comfortable with that, or he could occasionally visit you, or you could simply mail letters back and forth if you don't want to lose all contact, but if he wants nothing to do with you than that's his decision and you should respect that." She said.

"You can't force him to go back -your Lord and Lady titles have no power here, seeing as this is an entirely different kingdom, yes?" Virgil's father added, "he is under our protection should it be necessary."

"He's lived more years at home than he has here, he's more-"

"Citizenship is given after at least five years of residency within the kingdom," Virgil's mother cut her off again, "so Logan is technically a legal citizen of Corona seeing as he's lived within our boarders for more than five years." She said. "Legally you can't do a thing."

Amelia was positively fuming at this point, her pale skin stained bright red from an angry flush across her it.

"Now you listen here, he is my-"

"No you listen here," Virgil's mother cut her off again, her voice strong and harsh, "I am a Queen and you are but a Lady and Lord from a different kingdom, remember your place and show respect towards myself and my family, is that understood." Her tone left no room for argument or questioning. "You and your husband have over stayed your welcome, so you must now leave -leave Corona entirely for the time being- but if your daughter wishes to stay then she is more than welcome to." She added, her tone turning much kinder as she sent a small smile towards the girl.

"Cecilia isn't going to be-"

"Mother, just stop for one second." Logan's sister, Cecilia, said, her voice soft as she gently cut her mother off, before turning back to Virgil's mother.

"Thank you for the offer, and I might take you up on it in the future should it still stand, but for now I will be returning home with my parents -I'm engaged and my fiancé is back home waiting for me, so I can't just up and leave." She said with a small apologetic bow of her head, "but, if it's okay," she continued as she turned to glance over at Logan, "I'd love to talk with my brother more, I've...I've missed him a lot, so even just sending letters would be more than enough for me."

"Of course Cee," Logan said, "I am more than willing to keep contact with you, I've missed so much of you growing up, I wish to reconnect."

"Okay Lo," Cecilia said, a water smile making its way up onto her face, before she turned to her parents.

"It's time for us to leave then, so please stop arguing." She said, giving the two of the pleading looks.

Their father, who hadn't said a word this whole time, simply nodded in agreement with her, while their mother huffed softly and crossed her arms.

"I suppose it is now isn't it," she said, before casting a look towards Logan. "I can't express how disappointed I am with you, you had so much promise for us and-"

"Stop," Roman said as he moved to step in front of Logan, "your opinion is unwanted, and I cannot stress this enough," he began as he took a step towards her, "Shut your howling screamer, and get out of here before I make you." He said with a glare.

Logans mother spluttered out a furious mess of half spoken words as she was quickly pulled from the room by Cecilia, who shot an apologetic look over her shoulder as she practically dragged her mother away, her father calming walking along behind them.

There was a quiet pause before Logan looked at Roman.

" 'shut your howling screamer'?" He asked, quoting his boyfriend with a cocked eyebrow.

Roman's serious look turned sheepish, "I, uh, read it in a book once and thought that this was a good situation to say it." He said with a shrug, "too much?"

"Just enough." Logan said, before moving to press a kiss to Romans cheek, earning a small laugh from Roman.

"Well, sorry about that boys," Virgil's mother said as she clasped her hands in front of her, "if we had known that was going to happen we wouldn't have called you here -sorry for all that."

"It's alright, you didn't know," Logan said.

"Are you okay?" Virgil asked as he moved to cup Logan's cheek and turn his face to look at him, "that was a lot, do you want to just like, go relax in one of our rooms for a bit? Take a hot bath maybe? Or do you want to go back to the festival for a bit?" He asked, "I know arguments and stressful situations can be kinda draining, so it's completely understandable if you don't want to go back out, or if you even want some alone time." He said.

Logan hummed thoughtfully, "I'm not sure," he began, "I think I'd like to stay here for a bit, but I'd like to go back out later." He said, "you guys don't have to stay with me if you don't want to, but you are more than welcome to if you want."

"If you don't mind it then I'd love to stay." Patton said as he moved behind Logan and wrapped his arms around his taller boyfriends waist, squeezing him tightly.

"I'd also love to stay." Roman said while Virgil nodded in agreement.

"Alright then," Logan said, a fond smile making its way up onto his face, "up to my room then?"

The four of them quickly said goodbye to Virgil's parents before making their way up to Logan's room, where they changed into more comfortable clothing -they'd ended up just keeping several sets of each of their own clothing in everyone's rooms since they'd grown tired of going back and forth for things like changing clothes- before collapsing together onto his bed.

Logan was at the center of the pile, having been almost manhandled there by Roman, who eagerly wrapped around him on his right side and help him close. Virgil was on his left, practically plastered to Logan's side, and Patton was on the other side of Roman, his arm draped across both of them so that his palm could rest on Virgil's hip.

"If I'm not careful I might fall asleep," Patton said with a hum as he reached down and dragged Logan's blanket up and over all of them.

"I honestly wouldn't mind an afternoon nap," Roman said, "you're all so warm and comfortable." He added as he pressed his face against Logan's shoulder.

"We should avoid napping for long if we do nap -otherwise we'll be tired and groggy when we wake." Logan said softly as he trailed his fingers up and down Virgil's spine, smiling as said boyfriend snuggled closer to him, pressing kisses to his chest where his head lay. Patton and Roman both hummed in agreement with his statement, before they settled into a comfortable bout of silence.

It wasn't until much later that day that they woke from their inevitable nap and eventually left the castle to go back to the festival, where they quickly began to enjoy the games and food and activities again. They didn't see Virgil's parents or sister while they were out, which was a relief since none of them were sure how to handle the situation if they were to meet again right after the mess that had been earlier.

They finished the evening with a hot bath, with two of them relaxing in the water while the other two sat just outside of the tub to wait their turn, none of them really wanting to be apart for long. Many kisses were exchanged, along with a few not so subtle touches that remained borderline arousing -just enough to make the person flush red but not actually begin to get erect.

They fell asleep easy that night, snuggled in as close as possible to one another as almost lazy kisses where placed on whatever skin could be reached with minimal moving.

It had been both a good and a bad day, but thankfully the good parts weighed out the bad.
