"I believe the spot should be near here, somewhere." Logan said from his spot on the saddle behind Roman, his arms looped around his boyfriends waist as he looked around them.
"I think you're right, that stump over there looks pretty familiar." Roman said with a laugh as he guided the horse farther down the path.
"Maybe you tripped on it at some point."
"Oh I'm sure of it."
They continued on and Logan leaned against Romans back, pressing his face against his warm shirt as he contently watched the trees and other plants pass by. It was a nice day, not many clouds in the sky, and a moderately nice temperature -it could have been warmer but it wasn't too bad all things considered. He could hear the sound of the waves from the nearby ocean, the sound was pleasant and almost calming in a way.
"Are we stopping to eat before we get to the cliffs or when we get there?" Roman asked after a bit of silence.
"Either is fine with me." Logan said, "whichever you'd like to do."
"I suppose we can wait till we get there, we're getting close anyways." Roman said, and Logan hummed softly in response.
The fresh air smelled nice, and the scent of Romans dark cherry soap went well with it in Logan's opinion. He gently tightened his hold on Romans waist as he took a deep relaxing breath, allowing his thumbs to rub small circles against Romans skin as he hands slid under his shirt a little bit.
"If you try to tickle me you can't blame me if I accidentally shove you off the horse." Roman said on a teasing voice.
"I'm not going to tickle you," Logan said as he rolled his eyes with a fond expression, letting his hands slide out from under his shirt and clasp together across his stomach instead, "you're skin is really soft." He added.
"O-oh, well, thank you," Roman said, and Logan could confidently assume he was blushing, "it's probably something in the soap I use."
"Most likely," Logan agreed.
They rode on in silence for a while, and the sound of waves got louder, now accompanied by the calling of birds as they drew closer to the cliffs.
"I think here is a good spot to leave Augustus, it's not to close to the cliffs, but close enough for us to keep an eye on him." Roman said as he drew their horse to a halt next a lush tree.
"That does seem like a good plan," Logan said with a nod as he sat up, letting his arms slip away from their hold on Romans waist, before getting off of Augustus -Roman quickly following.
Logan adjusted his glasses as he watched Roman tie Agustus' reins to the tree they'd stopped next to, making sure the knot was secure before giving the horse a small treat.
Logan busied himself with collecting their packed lunch from the saddle bag, a faint blush seeping into his cheeks when he felt Romans hands slip around his waist and his chin hook over his shoulder.
"Are we eating now or checking out the cliffs first?" Roman asked, his mouth pressed close to Logan's ear, before he pressed a gentle kiss to his neck -not something hot or steamy, but something gentle and sweet. It was nice.
"Well, I'm not all that hungry at the moment, but if you are then we can eat now." Logan said as he leaned back into Romans hold, his head tilting automatically to accommodate Roman while he subconsciously clutched the pack a bit tighter in his hands.
"Nah I'm not that hungry, so we can go look at the cliffs for now." Roman said while pressing a few more kisses to Logan's neck, and Logan could feel the smile on his lips each time they pressed to his now lightly flushed skin.
Roman eventually let him go and they quickly set up a small spot under a large tree where they'd eat later on. They didn't unpack anything, but made a mental note of the spot and put they bag down there -they weren't concerned about anything trying to get in to eat their food.
"To the cliffs?" Roman asked as he took Logan's hand, threading their fingers together and squeezing gently.
Logan nodded and gently squeezed his hand back, before letting Roman lead him over towards where they could now see the cliffs edge, the glimmering sapphire ocean stretching out beyond it.
It wasn't a horribly tall cliff -and there was actually a small beech at the bottom of it -which could be considered good and bad in some cases- but it was high enough to be wary about the edge.
Roman took him close to the edge, and lowered them to sit down with their legs dangling over -it made a small tickle of anxiety squirm in Logan's chest, but he pushed it down in favor of squeezing Romans hand harder, and scooched a bit father back from the edge so that the backs of his knees were pressed to the dirt and only his shins where dangled over.
"It's a nice few isn't it." Roman said softly from his spot next to him, and Logan nodded in agreement.
"Yes it's very nice." He said softly, before shifting so that he could carefully look over the edge.
A small portion of the cliff -along one of the sides, so not the portion they were above- was covered with sharp ledges in the weather worn dirt and stone, and he could hear the calling of birds from the cliff -he could see them too. Small brown birds with white stomachs that suck their heads out to look around from their nests before flying off towards the ocean, where they dive I to the water to catch small fish.
"Come on specs, tell me some facts about them that I know you have in the big brain of hours." Roman said, and apparently he'd been looking over at the birds as well.
"I'm fairly certain they're a species of Murre -a relatively small bird that likes colder waters and nests along cliffs or rock formations on the coast during their breeding season," Logan said softly, not taking his eyes of the birds. "They can fly out and dive for fish and some times small crustaceans to eat and bring back to their young. When they're young get old enough they're able to glide down to the water and start diving for food themselves right away." He continued. "And for its size they have the most densely packed nesting colonies of any bird that we currently know of." He added.
"You're so smart." Roman said softly from next to him, and when Logan turned to look he saw an absolutely fond smile spread across his face, and he blushed when he realized Roman had been watching him talk instead of watching the birds.
"Its not about being smart," Logan said as he almost sheepishly adjusted his glasses, "it's just facts I read in a book."
"That doesn't mean you're not smart -you were able to remember the facts, and I doubt you tried to memorize them when you read them." Roman said, and he still had that fond smile and loving look in his eye that made Logan's cheeks flush brightly. "So take the compliment ya need."
Logan laughed softly, but nodded nonetheless, "alright." He said, returning romans fond smile.
They ended up chatting for a bit on top of the cliff, talking about random things that came to them as they watched the birds occasionally fly out and dive, or simply just bob along on the small waves.
After almost an hour they finally decided to get up to go eat their food, which was still sitting back up under the tree near where Augustus was still tied.
They sat themselves under the tree, and unpacked their food -which was sandwiches and some fruit.
They were a little squished from the ride their, but they still tasted good so it wasn't that big of a problem. The fruit wasn't all that squished though, which was good.
"Do you want to go down to the beach when we're done?" Roman asked when he was around halfway done with his sandwich.
"It'll be sunset soon, so we can probably go down for a little while, but we want to head back before dark -we promised to be back in time for dinner." Logan said as he ate some of the fruit they'd brought.
"Thats true," Roman said, "so yeah -we go down there for a little bit, come back up, and head home." He said, smiling at him before going back to his sandwich.
"Sounds like a plan."
They finished their food some time later, and packed everything back up before walking a little ways away to a different cliff with a more accessible beach. They took Augustus with them, and tied him to a different tree nearby before heading down to the beach. The path was a little narrow and steep, but wasn't too bad considering it was on a cliff.
The sand was a pale tan almost gray color, and there were a few bits of drift wood scattered about that must have been pulled in during high tide.
"So do you want to just sit? Or swim? Or look for shells or cool rocks?" Roman asked, throwing out suggestions as they walked down the beach towards the water, their clasped hands gently swinging between them.
"I'd personally like to just sit for a bit, but you can look around and such -swimming might not be the best idea since we didn't bring any towels and I don't think the ride home would be comfortable if you're all wet." Logan said while glancing around the beech for a nice spot to sit.
"Yeah thats true," Roman said, "I might poke around for some shells and rocks then." He added.
Logan nodded, "I think I'm going to sit over there then," he said, before gesturing to a mostly clear sanely spot where a large almost box shaped rock was sitting. It was fairly uneven, but it was maybe three feet tall, two another two or three feet wide, and maybe four feet long. The top of it wasn't flat or even smooth, but it didn't look too bad.
"Okay, call if you need anything?" Roman said as he gently squeezed Logan's hand.
"I will, and you can too." Logan said with a small nod.
Roman smiled at him and pressed a kiss to his cheek before excitedly hurrying towards a spot on the beach where he must have spotted something interesting.
Logan made his way over to the rock and flattened the sand with his foot before sitting down with his back to the rock, his feet planted firmly in the sand and his knees bent up a bit.
He took his glasses off and pulled a small rag out of his pocket to clean them, before slipping them back on and leaning back against the rock to get more comfortable -or as comfortable as he could get sitting on slightly damp sand against a cold rock.
He tilted his head and watched Roman for a bit, a fond smile slipping onto his face as he watched his boyfriend wander around the beach, going from one spot to the next as he looked for rocks and shells. It was kind of funny, since he'd see something and pick it up, and then he'd either excitedly start looking it over or pout and chuck it behind him or back down to the ground before getting distracted by something else. It was endearing in a way that Logan couldn't explain. He could explain a lot of the feelings he felt when he was around Roman, or Patton, or Virgil. All he can say is that they're good emotions and feelings, they feel nice and make him happy.
He eventually closed his eyes and let himself relax, listening to the distant calls of birds mixed in with the calm rolling of waves as they met the sandy beach or crashed into rocks fourth out in the water. It was peaceful, and only interrupted by an occasional excited squeal from Roman -which wasn't really an interruption since it was more cute than it was annoying.
Logan was eventually brought back to the present and out of his own inner musings by a sudden weight in his lap, and he realized then that Roman had been almost suspiciously quiet for a bit of time.
He opened his eyes and blinked up at Roman, who was now sitting in his lap with his legs straddling Logan's waist, a smile on his face.
"You look so pretty when you're relaxed, well, prettier than usual -you're always pretty." Roman said while he lifted a hand that cupped Logan's cheek. His fingers were cold and a little damp, but Logan leaned into the touch anyways.
"And you look rather adorable when you're running around the beach like a skittering crab and finding shells and rocks." Logan said as he gave him a small smile.
He watched as a small blush formed on Romans cheeks, before his smile widened.
"I found some shells you might like," he said, "I'll show them to you later -for now though, can I..." he trailed of slightly as he leaned closer, his other hand coming up to cup Logan's other cheek -this hand was equally cold to the other.
Their faces were so close their noses were lightly touching, and Logan took a calming breath as he closed his eyes and tilted his head back slightly. "Yes." He said softly.
Romans lips were quickly pressed to his own, and like his fingers they were kind of cold too, but not unpleasantly so.
Logan found himself softly humming into the kiss as Roman pressed him back into the rock behind him a little harder, and Logan's back curved along with the shape of the rock while his hands moved up to tangle his fingers in Romans hair.
They pulled apart for a few seconds before coming back together again, and Romans tongue gently prodded at Logan's lips -which he quickly parted to allow Romans tong to slip in.
He tasted sweet, like the fruit they'd been eating before coming down to the beach. And his mouth was hot and had Logan trying to pull him closer, his fingers tightening their hold on Romans hair and tugging gently -which earned him a small moan from his boyfriend.
Just as his lungs began to burn from lack of air, Roman pulled back again, gently biting Logan's bottom lip as he did.
Logan let his eyes slip open too look up at Roman, who's lips were red and slightly swollen and laid out in a gentle loving smile, and he had the fondest look in his eyes.
"I love you," he said as he leaned down and pressed a kiss to Logan's mouth, and then another to the corner of his lips, and then another and another, peppering his face with gentle kisses that slowly made their way down to his neck, where they became hotter again.
Romans mouth latched onto a spot on his neck where he began to gently suck and lick, his tongue hot and searing against his skin as he lavished the small spot with attention. He eventually pulled away from the now tender spot, and moved to another, barely giving Logan any time to recover before his mouth was lavishing another spot, making his breath hitch slightly as his fingers pulled at Romans hair a bit.
It felt good, he didn't even notice when his eyes slid closed again, and he barely paid any kind to weather or not the marks would be in places he could cover up easily. Right now he couldn't find the right mind to care, and instead let his right hand trail down to cup the back of Romans neck and subconsciously pull him closer, a small moan leaving his lips as Roman bit down on the current spot he was working on.
"It might be in our best interest," Logan began, his voice soft and breathless, "to slow down a bit before we get ahead of ourselves." He finished, before biting his lip in response to Roman nipping against his collarbone before he pulled away.
"Yeah you're probably right," Roman said as he sat up a bit too look down at him, "kisses still okay though?"
Logan smiled softly and let both his hands slide down to let his arms rest loosely around Romans neck, "yes kissing is still okay."
Roman didn't even wait a second before he was kissing him, being passionate yet gentle at the same time. There wasn't any tongue, it was just lips -and oh wait, teeth too- as Roman gently nipped and pulled at his bottom lip.
He open his mouth a little, but Roman didn't slide his tongue inside, no instead he gently sunk his teeth into a more sensitive area of Logan's lip, before quickly pulling back and kissing him normally again -and Logan was certain his lip would be red and slightly swollen by the time they were done.
They continued kissing for some time, their pace slow and loving. They took small breaks to breathe when they needed to, and during those breaks Roman would either press kisses to other parts of Romans face and neck, or he'd mutter sweet nothings and compliments to him until they returned to kissing.
They eventually slowed to a stop, if you could call it that.
Roman had tucked himself against Logan's chest and pressed his face to the crook of his neck. They were cuddling and just relaxing, but that didn't stop Roman from pressing the occasional group of kisses to the flushed skin near his mouth.
"You're a very good kisser, I hope you know." Logan said as he let his fingers slowly trace shapes and patterns onto Romans back, tilting his head so that his cheek rested on Romans mop of hair.
"Oh I'm aware, and I can guarantee that you're also, a very good kisser." Roman said as he snuggled closer to him.
"I didn't do much during our kisses just now."
"You where pliant and open for me, you took everything so nicely and made a bunch of cute sounds," Roman argued, "-that sounds much more sexual and explicit than I intended-" he quickly added, a small blush on his cheeks, before continuing, "and when you dominate a kiss it's very hot -Patton and Virgil would agree with me."
The blush that had faded from Logan's cheeks returned slightly, much to his embarrassment. "Then I suppose I'll take your word for it."
"Good." Roman said, pressing a chaste kiss to his neck.
They stayed like that for a while, and only moved to get up when the sky showed signs of turning yellow and pink. It wasn't sunset yet, but it'd be soon.
"We should head back now," Logan said as he moved a hand up to card his fingers through Romans hair.
"Yeah, we did promise to be back home before dinner." Roman said, before he pressed a few more gentle kisses to Logan's neck -though he made no move to get up.
"Leaving means you need to get up," Logan said softly.
"But what if I don't want to?" Roman asked as he tilted his head up to pout at Logan.
"You can cuddle with me on the ride back okay? I'll steer and you can sit in back." Logan suggested.
"Hmm, I suppose." Roman said, before he reluctantly sat up, "you sure you don't mind?"
"It's not a problem, don't worry," Logan said as he moved his hand down from Romans scalp to cup his cheek, which his boyfriend leaned into.
"Alright love." He said softly before getting up from Logan's lap.
He helped Logan stand up, and moved to walk up the beach with their hands together, but was stopped by Logan pulling him back and pressing a chaste kiss to his lips.
"I love you too," Logan said softly, before moving to lead a slightly surprised Roman up the beach, watching out of the corner of his eye as Romans face split into an affectionate grin.
The trip up the beach and back up the cliff was short and they stayed mostly silent as they walked, but they occasionally pointed something out that they saw that seemed interesting.
They checked up on Augustus when they got back up the cliff and to where they'd left him, and gave him a quick treat before getting up and beginning their ride back.
Logan sat in front this time, and he couldn't stop the small smile from slipping onto his face when he felt Roman snake his arms around his waist and lean against him, his face pressing in between Logan's shoulder blades.
"We should make it back in time before dinner if we go at a steady pace," Logan said, "try not to fall asleep, okay?"
"I make no promises," Roman said with a soft hum and Logan felt his snuggle closer and felt his hold on his waist tighten.
"Alright love." Logan said softly, before focusing back onto the path in front of them, relaxing a little as he listened to the sound of the waves fade away the farther they got, only for them to be relaxed with the gentle sound of Romans breathing behind him.
It had been a nice date, and he couldn't help wondering if Patton and Virgil's date had gone just as well. Though, he knew his wondering were semi-pointless -he knew the two would talk about their date, just like him and Roman would talk about there's. He had to admit he was looking forward to it.
For no he was content to just relax as they quietly rode home, with Roman cuddling with him from behind.
It had been a good day.
And boom
