Chapter 55

Prompt: 'Virgil and Roman spar'

Just as the prompt says
They spar
Woo
This should be on the shorter side
And yeah
Enjoy my horrible writing <3

"Today I want the two of you to spar for me, whoever gets pinned and can't escape is the loser," Argon, the head guard and Virgil's sword and combat teacher, said as he looked between Romans and Virgil, "Virgil I expect you to be able to hold your own in the fight, but Roman I expect you to be able to beat Virgil -you're no use protecting him if you're not stronger than him and get taken out by an enemy before he does." He said sternly, and both Romans and Virgil quickly nodded. "Virgil if you lose then I expect you to do a hundred push-ups and thirty laps as punishment, Roman if you lose then I expect you to do a hundred pull-ups and thirty laps as punishment."

Virgil glanced over at Roman, who had also glanced to look over at him. That punishment didn't sound good at all, but would he be able to beat Roman? Sure he had been taking the combat lessons longer than him, but Roman had picked it up much easier than Virgil had and was probably already at a higher level than him too. Maybe if he was fast enough he could pin him? Or would Roman be expecting that...

"You have twenty minutes to prepare, meet back here ready to fight and ready to face your punishment." Argon said, giving each of them a stern look before marching off.

"Well, this'll be fun now won't it," Roman said as he and Virgil began to walk back towards Virgil's room, needing to get ready.

"Oh yeah, loads of fun." Virgil said with a small roll of his eyes.

Virgil watched out of the corner of his eyes as Roman quickly looked around, before he grabbed Virgil's wrist and began to tug him towards an empty hallway, and Virgil willingly let himself get pulled along.

"I hope you like losing." Roman teased with a smirk as he pulled them into the shadows behind a marble statue, before lifting his hand to thread his fingers through Virgil's hair.

"Funny, I was just about to ask you that." Virgil said as he leaned into the touch, his own smirk playing on his lips.

"Want to make our own little deal?" Roman asked as he let his fingers slide down until his hand was cupping Virgil's chin, before he gently pressed Virgil back against the wall.

"Oh? What kind of deal?"

"Oh just something small, no worries -loser has to do one thing the winner says."

"Sounds pretty cliche," Virgil said with a small snort, "Anything?" He added as he let his arms move up to loop around Romans neck, deciding to humor him.

"Anything." Roman said with a nod as his free hand moved to curl around Virgil's waist, pressing him closer against the wall. "And yeah it might be a bit cliche but that's part of the fun."

Virgil hummed softly. "What if that makes me want to loose now?" He asked, "I'm curious about what you want to make me do."

"I guess we'll just have to wait to see if you loose." Roman said before leaning his head down to press kisses to Virgil's neck.

"Oh I don't think I will, as curious as I am I don't want Argons punishment." Virgil said with a laugh as he leaned his head back, while tilting it slightly to the side as well. He let himself bask in the lovey-dovey feeling that settled in around them for a few minutes before reluctantly pushing Roman a few inches away.

"I'd love to continue this," he began, as he moved a hand up to cup Romans cheek, "but we have less than twenty minutes to get ready." He said. "I don't think we can afford a make out session and I don't think either of us want to be hot and bothered while we fight."

Roman laughed softly as he leaned into the touch, "I suppose you're right, but later tonight maybe?"

"Oh I can agree to that, if you're not too tired from your punishment when you lose." Virgil said, leaning forward to give him a quick chaste kiss before leading him out of the hallway and towards another hallway where their rooms were.

"I'll meet you on the field, Princy." Virgil said as he stopped in front of his door.

"See you there, Virge." Roman gave him a small wave before continuing his way down to his own room.

Virgil laughed softly before ducking into his own room to get changed into his lightest and most flexible clothing. He was smaller and more agile than Roman, so he could try to use that to his advantage. And, there was the tiniest chance his anxiety could help him with this. Obviously it could also ruin it for him, but if he was lucky...

He finished getting ready and quickly made his way back to the indoor training room. It was still too cold and snowy to use the outside one, so their fight would be inside, which Virgil didn't mind all that much.

Logan and Patton weren't allowed to come watch -well, Patton technically could if he wanted, but Logan wasn't allowed to, so Patton was going to stay with Logan for now.
Come to think of it, he'd probably have to fight Patton as well. If he was fighting Roman so that Argon could evaluate both their skills then he'd probably want to put him against Patton as well.

Roman arrived less then a minute after him, and the two began stretching and warming up while they waited for Argon.

"You should wear those pants more often, they make your ass look even better than usual -and I know Logan's and Patton agree with me on that, I can assure you that at I've caught both of them staring at your ass when you come back from training." Roman said from where he was not so subtly watching Virgil stretch while also continuing to stretch and warm as well.

A red blush quickly rose up on to Virgil's cheeks, and he shot roman a small glare that didn't have any heat to it. "You make it sound like you don't also stare at my ass, and you make it sound like they don't also stare at your ass."

"Oh no I do, quite often actually." Roman said as he sent a smirk over at him. "And they can look all they want -I know you do too." He added with a wink.

"Then I'll make sure to never wear these again then." Virgil said, sticking his tongue out at him.

"Aw babe, they really do look good on you though." Roman said with an exaggerated pout.

"Stop flirting in the training room, save that for places you won't be heard." A voice said from the doorway, making both of them jump slightly. Argon stood there, an unimpressed look on his face. "I'm also adding another five laps to your punishment for losing as punishment for pda." He added.

...could he punish them for pda? Well, it was his training room... But either way that seemed like a bit much if Virgil was being honest. It's not like they were making out on the floor or anything...

"Of course, sorry sir." Virgil said as he gave Argon a court nod, while Roman parroted his apology.

"Get ready in the ring," Argon said with a dismissive wave, "no weapons, and no breaking bones, but everything else is fair game -fight like you mean it." He said, "I'll step in if I think you're not putting yourself into the fight, and you don't want that." He continued as he gave each of them a stern look. "If you leave the ring then the fight restarts, if you get knocked out or are pinned and can't get up then the fight is over, am I clear?"

"Yes sir," both Virgil and Roman said with a nod.

"Then get started."

The two of them quickly entered the white ring drawn on the ground, and each lowered themselves into a loose but ready position.

"3, 2, 1 -Fight!"

Roman almost immediately lurched forwards, and would have gotten ahold of Virgil if he hadn't ducked into a roll and scrambled away in time to watch Roman skid to a stop just at the rings edge.

The two of them met in the middle, fists raised as they both danced on the balls of their feet, keeping themselves in a position to either take a hit or easily dodge.

Seeing a chance, Virgil aimed two quickly jabs towards Romans torso, both of which were blocked -but that allowed Virgil to twist around and swing a kick up and around towards Romans face.

Unfortunately -or fortunately, since he didn't want to break Romans jaw- Roman was able to raise his arm fast enough to take a hit -which was going to leave a nasty bruise- but his body hadn't been expecting it which caused him to stumble.

Not wanting to let up Virgil quickly twisted around Roman and tried to turn his stumble into a fall by pushing him towards the ground from behind -only for Roman to twist around as well so he was facing Virgil. The two of them slammed to the ground a second later, with Roman under Virgil, but before Virgil could get a good grip Roman was twisting them both to the side while locking his legs behind Virgil's waist so that Virgil was now the one pressed to the ground with Roman above him, a concentrated and determined look on his face and -oh shit that was kind of hot.

Locking his legs behind -now underneath- Virgil had been a bad decision on his part though, since now they were pinned beneath Virgil and didn't give Roman any support, which was made evident when Virgil managed to get his hands free from when Roman had pinned them and almost lanced a solid punch on Roman's face -he hadn't really been aiming, so oops- and shove him backwards solidly from the center of his chest, tipping them both over and allowing Virgil to slip away from Roman and take several steps back so he could catch his breath, keeping aware of the line from the ring as he did.

"Not bad babe, 'thought for sure I had you there." Roman said as he got up and absentmindedly rubbed at the spot where Virgil had managed to clip the edge of his jaw with his punch. The hit hadn't been solid, but had been enough to through off his balance and discombobulate him for a second.

"You would have if you'd pinned my hands well enough and hadn't had your legs beneath me." Virgil said as he and Roman slowly circled each other.

"Yeah, I knew that wasn't a good idea when I felt how stuck they were when I flipped ya." Roman said and Virgil watched as he slowly lowered himself a bit, a trickle of sweat dripping down his forehead and along the edge of his face and to the line of his jaw. "I'll just have to make sure to not do that next time."

"To bad theres not going to be a next time-" Virgil said, quickly cutting himself off as Roman charged again.

He quickly planted his feet and raised his arms to protect his face as Roman began making hits, and ow Roman wasn't the only who was going to have nasty bruises when this was over.

He should have noticed it, but unfortunately he didn't see the kick coming from the left and found himself being flung to the side and crashing down hard on his shoulder. He didn't have much time to focus on that though, instead having to immediately roll out of the way and scramble back up onto his feet and-

"Virgil you're out of the ring," Aragon's voice cut through the focus Virgil had built up -and suddenly he was aware of just how fast his heart was beating and how hard his breathing was. He looked down and saw just the edge of his foot outside the line -which apparently counted as out of bounds. "Restart the fight -as penalty Roman gets first move."

The two of them quickly relaxed from their positions and Roman stretched while Virgil rolled his shoulder, wincing at what was no doubt going to be an awful bruise.

They moved back to the center of the ring and got into position again, eyeing each other carefully.

"Virgil you can't defend this attack -you must take it and then deal with whatever happens after -understood?"

"Yes sir."

"Alright, begin!"

Roman almost immediately darted forwards, and all but tackled Virgil to the ground, his back slamming down and knocking the breath out of him for a second.

Roman, having meandered from before, now had his legs straddling Virgil, a knee pressed down on either side of his wait, while he had his hands up and pinning Virgil's arms on either side of his head.

Virgil growled softly as he squirmed in Romans hold, trying to twist his arms free -which was futile- before glaring up at Roman and tugging his knees up, since his legs could still move freely.

Virgil was much more flexible than Roman was, and was able to curl his legs up before hooking his calves under Romans arms from where they are wider spread from pinning Virgil's hands before slamming his hips back down to the floor, forcing Roman down with them as his legs carried on the movement. He quickly rolled up with the motion and found himself practically tangled with Roman. His torso was between Romans legs, but his own legs were stretched up and pinning his boyfriends biceps to the ground, they're arms clasped between them. It was not an optimal position -it was actually very awkward.

Roman immediately began struggling and Virgil unfortunately lost the grip he'd gained on Romans forearms and was quickly thrown off -he rolled with the toss though and sprung back up onto his feet a second later, but Roman had done the same and they were back to where they started.

"Almost had me worried for a second there Virge," Roman said, and Virgil could see the heavy rise and fall of his chest from panting -and he knew he wasn't doing much better.

"You should be worried, I'll pin you next time." Virgil said as he pushed some of his hair out of his face, absentmindedly noting that his was heavy and almost slick from sweat -and boy was it getting hot in there.

"Keep telling yourself that and maybe it'll come true." Roman said with a smirk that simultaneously made Virgil want to kiss him yet also made him want to actually pin him to the ground and win, and a small voice in the back of his mind whispered that he could do both-

He moved forwards and dealt out a few quick hits -all of which Roman either blocked or dodged- before jumping back and away from the swinging kick Roman and sent his way, making sure to be light on his toes as Roman all but chased him around the circle before managing to shoot his hand out at the right time and curl an arm around Virgil's waist, dragging him closer with a sharp gasp before moving to grab his arms -but Virgil managed to twist his way out again and tackle Roman from the side instead, trying to throw off his balance, only for Roman to strengthen his stance and take the hit -not falling over.

Virgil quickly tried to pull back as his attempt failed, muttering a curse when Roman managed to grab him again and pull him against his chest while twisting his arm behind his back painfully, making Virgil hiss softly.

He quickly aimed a few sharp jabs towards Romans ribs and stomach with his elbow from the arm that wasn't twisted, eventually landing a hit that had Roman's grip loosening enough for him to wrench his arm free -and he immediately took a step away before swinging a kick up and around towards Romans face, who quickly raised his arm to take the brunt of the kick, but ended up stumbling away slightly.

Virgil pantsed softly as he took a few steps away, rubbing some of the sweat off his forehead as he-

"Roman out of bounds, start again." Argon called out, dragging both of their attention to him before they both looked down at the ring.

Romans right foot had stepped out of the ring, probably due to his stumble from before.

The two of them moved to stand across from each other again, and Roman sent a pout to him.

"You keep aiming kicks at my face, babe, if you're not careful you might break my nose or something -which would be awful for my pretty face." He said with a slightly whiny yet teasing voice, and Virgil could see the suppressed smirk on his lips -but he could also see an underlying hint of something else, something more genuine and off...sad almost, maybe even worried.

"You're more than a pretty face Roman," Virgil said, "and I doubt I'd break your nose -your jaw on the other hand is another story." He said.

"Aw, then you could spoon feed me and keep me company while I heal, that'd be so-"

"Enough, remember where you are before you start all this," Argon cut in, giving them both a stern glare. "Now start again!"

They ended up restarting the fight a few more times before one of them eventually won, the restarts mostly because of slightly off footing or stumbling, but one time virgil managed to get Roman pinned to the ground but his leg had shifted out of bounds when he landed -although Virgil didn't know if he'd moved it on purpose so they'd have to restart again.

Roman was the winner of the fight. He had a much higher stamina than Virgil, who tired out much quicker from the ever dragging fight.

He'd been twisted around and pinned against Romans chest, both of them seated on the ground. His arms were folded, twisted up and locked in place behind his head with his elbows sticking up, held in place by Romans own arms wrapped around his biceps and keeping them firmly pinned with his hands pressed against the back of Virgil's neck for stability and too keep his hold secure. Then his legs were slotted around and over Virgil's hips and between Virgil's legs, keeping his legs locked in place and spread out so he didn't have enough support to twist or roll away no matter how much he wriggled, leaving no option for escape unless he wanted to cause more harm to either or both of them -which he did not.

He was given a half hour break to rest and get some water before he began his punishment for losing. It was awful.

The push-ups were worse than the laps in his opinion. His arms were sore and tired from trying to pin Roman and also from blocking some of his attacks. Thirty laps around the room wasn't too bad, but by the time he was finished he felt like his bones had turned to pudding, and all he wanted to do was lay on the floor and sleep for at least a week.

Roman had other plans, and managed to coax him into walking back to his room, keeping a hand on the small of his back as they walked.

They quickly drew themselves a bath when they got back to Virgil's room, and eagerly sank into the hot water and bubbles together, allowing their tense and sore muscles finally relax.

"You put up a good fight," Roman said as he gently pressed a kiss to Virgil's temple.

Virgil hummed softly and shifted closer to him from where he was already tucked against Romans side. "You too princy."

"Hey don't fall asleep in the bath, okay? I'm too tired to carry you out and to bed." Roman said as he gently rubbed Virgil's shoulder from where his arm was wrapped around him.

"Sounds like a you problem." Virgil said while letting his eyes slide open anyways. "Want me to wash your hair?"

"If you're up for it." Roman said with a small shrug.

"Turn around." Virgil said, and Roman did as told.

After getting Roman's hair wet Virgil quickly built up a thick lather with Romans dark cherry scented soap, massaging his scalp as he went about washing his hair.

He smiled softly when he heard Roman hum and saw his shoulders relax a bit, and he may have stayed there to massage his wall longer than necessary because Roman liked it and he didn't want him to be upset if he stopped.

But the water wouldn't stay warm forever and Virgil also needed to get washed off and such as well.

Roman apparently decided to take it into his own hands to wash Virgil's hair, dragging him to sit in his lap while he massaged his scalp with Virgil own vanilla and honey soap, and Virgil went boneless against him, and almost fell asleep -he would have of Roman hadn't gently nudged him to tell him they needed to finish washing up.

It was a longer bath than Virgil had anticipated, the only reason it was even finish was because Patton and Logan came in and told them dinner was in fifteen minutes.

So they somewhat reluctantly climbed out and dried off, trying to move a bit quicker than they usually would despite their protesting muscles.

Virgil couldn't even remember what they'd eaten or talked about by the time they'd finished dinner and the four of them were back in his room. All he could think about was getting undressed and into bed to sleep.

He even disregarded pajamas, and decided to go to bed in just his boxers despite it being a fairly cold night, which Logan pointed out.

"I have you three to cuddle with and keep warm," he said as he flopped onto the bed, shivering slightly as his skin touched the cool blankets not yet warm from them. "I'm too tired to change- I can't feel my bones."

Patton laughed softly as he moved to sit on the edge of Virgil's bed, already in his pajamas. "Come on love, I can help you." He said, holding up the set of pajamas he'd brought over.

It took longer than Virgil wanted, but he was eventually helped into his shirt and pants, and then they were all quickly cuddled together under the blankets, Roman and Virgil pressed together with Patton and Logan on either side of them.

"You never said what you'd do if you won the deal," Virgil mumbled as he nuzzled his face into the crook of Romans neck. "You won now, so what's it gunna be?"

Roman hummed softly, "I'm not sure," he admitted, "Maybe I'll have you give me a massage or something tomorrow when we've both slept for as long as we need."

"Only if you give me one too." Virgil said softly.

"I don't think that's how it works love," Roman said teasingly as he gently carded his fingers through Virgil's hair and oh that felt really nice.

"What deal?" He heard patton or Logan ask. It sounded like Patton but Virgil was slipping into dreamland rather quickly and couldn't tell.

He heard the sound of someone answer, and felt the gentle vibrations of Romans voice from where his face was still pressed against Romans neck, and found himself finally slipping away, his mind shutting off as he fell asleep.

And huzzah another chapter.
Weee
Hopefully yalls liked it. It felt rushed in my opinion. It's 4000 or so words long -not my longest but not my shortest.
Sorry for my horrendous writing when it came to the fighting.
The next chapter will be out soon.

Anywho
Bye!!
