If I could begin to be
Half of what you think of me
"Heya Dee."
Deceit looked up and smiled at Patton. "Hello Patton. Are you okay? You're very... giggly."
Patton giggled and sat down next to Deceit, leaning his head on his shoulder. "I'm just happy."
"Mhm. Any reason why?"
Patton shrugged. "Just happy that I've got such a wonderful boyfriend."
This comment made Deceit freeze slightly. He was really anything but wonderful.
I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love
"Hey Dee?" Patton asked, tracing the stars in the imagination with his finger.
"Hm?" Deceit peaked out from under his hat. Patton giggled and grabbed his hat. "Hey!"
Patton giggled even more and put the hat on his head. "I love you!" He said, grinning.
Deceit's smile dissolved a little.
When I see the way you act
Wondering when I'm coming back
"Dee! Dee, Dee, Dee!" Patton said, knocking on Deceit's door.
"One second, Patton." Deceit said. He opened his door, pulling his gloves on, and was immediately tackled by the shorter Side. "Aah! Pat, what are you doing?"
"Giving you a hug." Patton said from somewhere in the folds of Deceit's cloak.
"Why?"
"Because I miss you. When are you coming back?"
"I-" Deceit paused. "Uh, soon, Pat. Just as soon as we've gotten this whole wedding or call-back business out of the way, okay?"
"But that's ages!"
"I'll be back soon, I promise, okay?"
I could do about anything
I could even learn how to love like you
Somehow, Patton had managed to rope Deceit into baking in between videos.
"Dee?"
Deceit paused. "Mhm?" Even though he knew it was Patton, that tone of voice that all the Sides used when they were angry at him still scared him.
"The gloves need to come off if we're going to bake, silly." Patton said, laughing a little.
"But it's so cold." Deceit whined. Patton giggled and kissed him on the nose.
"You'll warm up soon, I'm sure."
Deceit bit the inside of his cheek before sighing and taking his gloves off.
"See?" Patton asked, grinning. "That wasn't so difficult was it?"
Deceit blew into his hands and rubbed them together. "It's still cold." He said moodily. Patton laughed.
"You're silly, Dee. I love you." He said it almost in passing. Deceit doubted Patton even noticed how it made him freeze up slightly. "Now, to baking! What d'you wanna make?"
I always thought I might be bad
He knew what the other Sides said about him. Deceit always knew how the Light Sides felt.
"They hate you." A small voice in his head whispered. "You telling them who you are, isn't going to change that, Janus. So why even bother?"
"Because I need to try." Janus thought. "I need to at least try."
"But you're a Dark Side." The voice whispered. "You're bad, you're not healthy for Thomas."
"Leave me alone."
Now I'm sure that it's true
"My name... is Janus."
There were a couple of beats of silence, to Janus they felt like years. Then, Roman burst out laughing.
"Janus? What are you, a middle-aged librarian?" He laughed. "It's a stupid name."
Janus glared at Roman. "Oh Roman, thank God you don't have a moustache. Because between you and Remus, I wouldn't know who the evil twin was." He'd said it. He'd said it and now he couldn't take it back.
Janus didn't bother looking up at Patton. He already knew he was disappointed.
'Cause I think you're so good
And I'm nothing like you
"Janus?" Patton asked in a soft voice. "Janus, can I come in?"
"No." Was the muffled reply.
"Janus, I'm not mad at you."
"You should be."
"I'm not, though. Janus, please can I talk to you?"
There was no reply but Patton was sure Janus was shaking his head.
"Jan-?"
"Why do you even bother?" It sounded like Janus was right on the other side of the door now. Right on the other side of the door and holding back tears.
"Bother with what?"
"Bother trying to make me feel included. Bother trying to make me feel good."
"Because you are. You're included and you're good."
Patton could almost hear Janus shaking his head again. "No. No I'm not. I'm not anything like you."
"What's that have to do with anything?"
"Because you're good."
Look at you go
I just adore you
"Janus, please can I come in?" Patton heard a few shuffles before the lock in the door clicked. Patton opened the door quickly and almost ran inside.
Janus looked up from playing with his hands, his hair messy and all over his scales.
Patton didn't say anything, he just ran over to Janus and hugged him.
"You're not in the wrong, you know." He whispered. "Roman shouldn't have made fun of you."
He heard a muffled half-sob and realised Janus was trying not to cry.
"Hey, hey." Patton said softly, reaching up and wiping away some of his tears. "You're not bad, you're not in the wrong, you're not-"
"Don't even bother to try." Janus said. "Patton, I love that you're trying to help me but it's not going to work."
"Yes it will. It has to work."
"Why?"
"Because I don't want to see you hurt." Patton wiped away some more of Janus' tears as Janus hung his head.
I wish that I knew
What makes you think I'm so special
Patton didn't know how long he and Janus just stayed in Janus' room, Janus trying not to cry and then slowly starting to and Patton trying to comfort him.
"Please don't cry." Patton whispered. "It hurts to see you upset."
"I'm sorry." Janus mumbled. "I know I shouldn't push my problems onto you but I can't help it."
"Hey, it is perfectly fine to push your problems onto me." Patton insisted, carefully brushing some of Janus' tears off his scales. He knew that Janus' scales were easily irritable and he didn't want him to be in any more pain than he already was. "That's what I'm here for. To help my special boyfriend work through his troubles."
Janus shook his head. "No?"
"No." Janus repeated.
"No to what?"
"I'm not special." He mumbled.
"Yes you are."
"What about me is special, Pat?" Janus asked sharply. "Apart from the obvious?" He gestured to his scales.
"You care." Patton said slowly. "You care so much about what other people feel. You care so much about Thomas, about Roman, about Remus, Virgil, Logan, about everyone. You're kinder than some of the Light Sides. You're special in every great way." He pressed a kiss to Janus' scales. "And I love all of that about you."
How was that? Was... was that good? ALEX WAS THAT GOOD?!
Bye,
Blaize
