Helpless (Prinxiety)
Song at the top if you want to listen to it (who would blame you if you did)
Ooh, I do, I do, I do, I do (hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey)
Hey! Ooh, I do, I do, I do, I do (Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey)
"Remy, I don't want to go to this!" Virgil said, glaring at his door through the mirror. "I look like an idiot." He muttered, looking down at the purple dress he was wearing. Every time he moved, the skirt swished against his feet. He didn't like it.
"Nonsense, Virge!" Remy yelled from his room. He poked his head around the door. "You look stunning. Any guy with common sense and a gay heart will fall head-over-heels for you. Trust me."
"After what you've done to me, I don't think I should." Virgil sighed and looked at his reflection, resisting smudging the black eyeshadow Remy had put on his eyes. "Do I have to wear-"
"Yes. You look like the Angle of Death with all that black under your eyes."
Virgil grimaced and turned away from the mirror. "Is Issac asleep?" He asked, realising he was not going to get out of this. Remy nodded and grinned, pushing his sunglasses up his nose.
"Let's go gurl."
Boy, you got me helpless
Look into your eyes, and the sky's the limit
I'm helpless
Down for the count, and I'm drownin' in 'em
Virgil hugged his arms over his chest, wishing his coat was longer. "Remy, this is a bad idea. Just because your boyfriend is downtown, doesn't mean we have to walk through every single alleyway to get to his house."
"It's a faster way, gurl. Relax. And dad would kill us if he found us downtown, let's remember."
"Exactly." Virgil hissed.
"Re! You got the coats?!" A man yelled up to a window. A man with striking green eyes, even in the shady light of the oil lamps overhead. Virgil ducked his head, blushing slightly.
I have never been the type to try and grab the spotlight
Virgil tried to keep to the edges of the ballroom. It was a huge room of silver and pink, so it wasn't that hard, but he was sure he was getting odd looks, lurking by the window leading out into the black night. Virgil wanted to be outside right now, not here in the bright spotlights of the huge, huge room with its disorientating mirrors and sparkling chandeliers.
We were at a revel with some rebels on a hot night
Virgil recognised some people here, most of whom were with the resistance. He agreed that the way the English were treating them was unfair but he didn't think a war should be waged over it. But besides, he was only 22, what did he know?
Laughin' at my sister as she's dazzling the room
Then you walked in and my heart went, "Boom!"
Virgil snickered to himself slightly as Remy twirled around the room with Emile, tripping over his feet slightly. He was still wearing his signature sideways smile, only slightly arrogant but the smile fit his brother's personality well. He caught sight of someone entering the ballroom and his heart seemed to stop slightly. It was the man with the striking green eyes, now dressed in a red coat. In better light, Virgil could see that it wasn't only this man's eyes that were nice to look at. He had long brown hair tied behind his head in an unruly ponytail but it fit him well. He was laughing and rolling his eyes at something the man he'd entered the room with had said and dimples had appeared at the side of his mouth and his beautiful green eyes had lit up. Virgil looked out the window hurriedly, trying to calm himself down. He could still see a reflection of the man in the window, which didn't help much.
Tryin' to catch your eye from the side of the ballroom
Everybody's dancin' and the band's top volume
Virgil took a deep breath and turned away from the window, his eyes searching for the man with green eyes, a tight coil of the purple material of his skirt scrunched tightly in his hand. He found him pretty easily, he seemed to unconsciously know where this man was at all times, and he still couldn't help but stare. The man looked over at him and Virgil looked away quickly, his cheeks flaming. A couple of people danced by, their laughter lost in the sound of the band, and Virgil took this opportunity to try to calm himself down again. When he dared to look back at the man in red, he was still looking at him and even shot him a wink before turning back to his conversation. Virgil swore that his heart nearly stopped.
Grind to the rhythm as we wine and dine
Grab my sister and whisper
"Yo, this one's mine"
The song ended and Virgil grabbed his brother's arm before pulling him away from his dance partner.
"Virge, what the Hell?" Remy hissed. "No fair."
"Very fair." Virgil hissed back as the band started up again. "I need your help." He shot a quick glance around the room before returning his gaze to Remy.
"You good gurl? You're looking pretty red." Remy's expression went from confused and worried to ecstatic. "Who is it? Is he cute?"
"Yes. Unfortunately." Virgil's eyes searched the room once more and located the man dressed in red. He pulled on Remy's arm and pointed. "You see him?"
"The one in red or the one in green?"
"The one in red. This one's mine." Remy grinned and shot Virgil a wink over the top of his sunglasses before walking over to the man in red.
My sister made her way across the room to you
And I got nervous thinking
"What's she gonna do?"
"Remy!" Virgil hissed but Remy was too far away to hear or care. Emile stopped Remy and they talked for a little. They both looked over at Virgil before Emile looked back at Remy and shot him a knowing smile which Remy mirrored. He walked over to the man in red.
"Shit, shit, shit, shit." Virgil hissed to himself. "What's he gonna do?" He thought, panicked. "Oh, this is such a bad idea."
She grabs you by the arm
I'm thinkin', "I'm through"
Remy tapped the man in red on the shoulder and started talking to him. The man nodded his head slightly every now and then and a slow grin was spreading across his face.
"Shit, shit, shit." Virgil thought, playing with the bit of skirt in his hand.
Remy took the man by the elbow gently and gestured with his hand.
"I'm through."
Then you look back at me
And suddenly I'm helpless
The man looked over at Virgil and grinned, his green eyes sparkling. Virgil felt a blush creep up his face and looked down at the ground quickly.
Oh, look at those eyes
And the sky's the limit
I'm helpless
"This is never gonna work." Virgil thought. He sneaked another look up through his fringe and looked back down. He really couldn't look at this man enough. There was just something about him that captivated Virgil. Virgil supposed it was his eyes. They were so bright and full of life. "God, I'm helpless." He realised.
Down for the count and I'm drownin'
Helpless
Look into your eyes
And the sky's the limit
I'm helpless
I know I'm down for the count
And I'm drownin' in 'em
Another dance had started up but, to Virgil's surprise, Remy didn't leave the man to go dance with Emile.
"Damn, this must be important to Remy." Virgil thought, knowing Remy was absolutely smitten with Emile. The dance meant that Remy and the man had to walk around the ballroom rather than through it and for that, Virgil was grateful. They had more ground to cover and it gave Virgil more time to calm himself down. Not like that was ever going to happen. Virgil felt like he was simultaneously flying and drowning when he looked at the man in red with sparkling eyes. They got close enough so Virgil could hear their conversation.
"Where are you taking me?"
"Shit, even his voice is perfect!" Virgil thought, still panicking.
"I'm about to change your life." Remy reassured. At least, Virgil assumed he was reassuring him.
"Then by all means, lead the way." Remy grinned and Virgil who glared back at him before smiling sheepishly at the man in red.
"Virgil Summers." He said quietly. "It's a pleasure to meet you."
"Summers?" The man repeated, looking between Remy and Virgil. Remy laughed.
"My brother."
"Thank you for all your service." Virgil said. This man, like most others, had most definitely been in the war against England.
"If it takes fighting a war for us to meet, it will have been worth it. I'm Roman." Roman said, taking Virgil's hand and kissing it.
"I'll leave you to it." Remy grinned at Virgil before walking away.
One week later
I'm writin' a letter nightly
Now my life gets better, every letter that you write me
"Holy shit! Re! He wrote back!" Roman yelled, stumbling up the stairs and bursting into his brother's room. Remus groaned and waved his hand at Roman.
"It's too early for this, Roman. I'm tired and I've got a hangover. Go deal with your gay shit somewhere else."
"Says the guy who was making out with Lord Dagger at last week's party." Roman shot back playfully, hugging Virgil's letter to his chest. "He even signed off with 'forever yours'. Re, this is meant to be, can't you see that?!"
"It's still gay shit." Remus mumbled into his pillow. "Go deal with it elsewhere."
Roman wasn't listening. He scanned the letter again with a lovesick grin. "I think I want to marry him, Re." He said dreamily.
"Ro, it's been one week!"
"So?" Roman asked, standing up. "This is the 1700s, Re, people don't live that long."
Laughin' at my sister 'cause she wants to form a harem
I'm just sayin', if you really loved me, you would share him
Ha!
"Re, would you leave the matter alone!" Roman asked. Remus' suggestions, if they could really be called that, had been funny at the start but were just getting tedious now.
"What? You've said it yourself, he's fucking handsome." Remus said. "And if you aren't gonna marry him any time soon-"
"I'm getting to that." Roman snapped. Remus laughed and held up his hands.
"I'm just saying, if you really loved me, you would share him."
"Ha." Roman said, dead-pan.
Two weeks later
In the living room stressin'
"Oh, this is a bad idea, this is a bad idea, this is a bad idea, this is a bad idea." Virgil muttered, pacing back and forth. Roman sighed slightly and got up, putting his arms around Virgil.
"It'll be fine, okay sweetheart?" Virgil twisted around and buried his head in Roman's chest. Virgil's clinginess worried Roman slightly. He never got this clingy unless he was worried within an inch of his life. "If he gives us his blessing, we'll get married and if he doesn't, we'll just elope. Okay? I know this really great guy, he owns this sweet little church and-"
"Shut up." Virgil mumbled. "And just hold me."
Roman did.
My father's stone-faced
While you're asking for his blessin'
Virgil peaked through a crack in the door, watching his father's face with worry and interest. If persuaded right, his father could be very easily won over. But Roman's pride often got in the way of his mind and if that happened, his father was like stone, unmovable and set. And that's what Virgil was worried about.
I'm dying inside as you wine and dine
And I'm tryin' not to cry
'Cause there's nothing that your mind can't do
"Virgy?" Virgil jumped and turned around. It was his younger brother, Issac. "Why are you crouching outside father's study?" Virgil got up and dusted his black trousers off.
"No reason, Issac. Just stressed. Go play."
"Annie went home. There's no one to play with."
"Then go find Remy and pester him. Do what you do best." Virgil said, shooing Issac away. "Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry, don't cry." He thought desperately as he felt tears sting his eyes slightly. "There's nothing Roman can't do. He'll be fine, you'll be fine. I'll get married. I will." He told himself firmly. He walked over to the door and inched it open slightly.
My father makes his way across the room to you
I panic for a second, thinking, "We're through"
Virgil's father walked over to Roman, who looked very out of place and slightly shabby in his father's imposing study. "We're through." Virgil thought. "Father never looks like that unless someone's pissed him off."
But then he shakes your hand and says, "Be true"
And you turn back to me, smiling, and
Helpless
His father surveyed Roman for a few seconds before grabbing his hand and shaking it firmly. "Be true to my boy." He said. Roman's face split into a huge, relieved grin. Virgil felt like he could fall into the floor. His father had said yes!
"I will, sir." Roman promised. His father nodded.
"You better. Or the consequences will be severe." Roman nodded, slightly scared but the smile still not leaving his face. He nodded at Virgil's father before leaving the study. Virgil met him and the door and his grin matched Roman's own.
"He said yes, Virgil." Roman said, sounding like he barely believed it.
"I know." Virgil didn't think he'd ever felt this giddy. He felt like he was flying and looking at Roman and his beautiful eyes only enhanced that feeling. He really was helpless when it came to Roman.
Here. Have fluff. Yeah, I got bored of waiting for a request (please request!) so I took matters into my own hands.
Bye,
Blaize
