What would you say if you could say
Everything you needed to
To the one, you needed to?

"What am I meant to say to him?"

"Virgil, is this really a necessary conversation?" Logan sighed, closing his book and looking at his roommate.

"Yes." Virgil snapped. "It is a very necessary conversation."

"I don't see how it is. Virgil, you have liked many men in the past so why is Roman any different?"

"The difference is all those other times, they had asked me out. I don't even know if Roman likes me."

"Then why are you turning to me for help? The only reason I was able to get a date with Patton was because Roman set us up. I know absolutely nothing about asking someone on a date."

"Yeah but you're dating Roman's roommate, who is probably the sweetest man alive. Surely you can help me."

Logan shook his head. "No can do, Virgil. We'd better get going." He said, checking his clock. "And for the love of God, put more than a hoodie on. It is snowing out there and I don't want my best friend to get hypothermia."

You flash like a setting sun
You come around, I come undone

Virgil heard laughter and looked up from the snow-covered pavement. And there was Roman. Laughing and twirling around with his arms out-stretched and his face towards the sky, getting snow in his hair. Virgil pulled his purple beanie down over his eyebrows and looked back at the ground quickly. How, even on one of the coldest days of the year, did Roman radiate heat and light?

Can't find the sound under my tongue
When I look at you

Roman waved at Logan and Patton as they excused themselves because Patton wanted to go sledging. "Bye love-birds!" He called after them.

"Don't freeze your asses off!" Virgil yelled. "And come back before it gets dark!"

"You are such a mum friend." Roman said, laughing.

"Uh- I-I am not." Virgil said, trying to sound indignant. This made Roman laugh even more.

"You so are. Come on." He grabbed Virgil's hand and started pulling him towards the middle of the park.

"Where are we going?" Virgil asked, still allowing himself to be pulled from underneath the tree. He liked the feeling of Roman's hand in his.

"We're going to build a snowman!"

"What are you, 12?"

"Inches? Yeah."

"Jesus Christ. And I thought your brother was bad."

I lose my voice when I look at you
Can't make a noise though I'm trying to

"Come on! Help me with the snowman!" Roman said, making Virgil jump. "Or are you posing as the muse for the snowman?"

"Uh..." Virgil'd been caught off-guard. He'd just been staring at Roman, not expecting him to suddenly start talking to Virgil.

"Just come on, Hot Topic! Please?"

Virgil sighed. "What is there to lose?" He thought as he went over to help Roman start rolling the snow into a ball for the snowman's body.

"Hey Princey?"

Roman looked up from trying to find sticks that he deemed 'worthy' for the snowman's arms. "Yeah?"

Virgil opened his mouth but closed it again. "Nevermind. You need me to help?"

"Yeah. Two people looking for arms is better than one."

Virgil nodded and started tramping through the snow.

Just another lovesick afternoon

"Hot Topic, can I borrow your hat?"

"Uh, sure." Virgil smiled slightly, taking off his hat and handing it to Roman. Roman put it on the snowman as Virgil ran a hand through his hair, shaking it out. "Seriously?" He asked, looking from the grinning Roman to the snowman. "You think the snowman has a better use of a hat than I do."

"Oh shut up Hot Topic. It looks cute. And you look cute too with your hair all messed up."

Virgil looked down at the snow, a small stupid smile on his face which was blushing pink.

"I screwed up, Logan!" Virgil said as they made their way back to their dorm.

"How so? When Patton and I got back, you two seemed to be getting along and socialising perfectly fine. Which is saying something considering how much you hated each other when you met."

"But I didn't say anything to him about anything. I just... I messed up, okay? Ugh."

"I am getting deja vu from this conversation so please, if you don't mind, suck it up and ask him out."

"Logan, have you gone insane?"

"No but I will if you do not stop pining after Roman and complaining to me about it." Logan took a breath, trying to control himself. "Apologies. At least try, won't you?"

Virgil huffed. "Fine."

Just yesterday north of LA
I couldn't help but think of you
Every time I think of you

"Roman? Roman where are you? Roma-" Roman looked up from lying face down on his bed.

"Pat, is what you're going to ask me important?"

"You thinking about him again?"

Roman sighed and put his face back down in his pillow. "Obviously." His voice came out severely muffled, making Patton giggle.

"Snape, Snape, Severus Snape." Patton giggled.

"Pat, like I said before, is what you're going to ask me important or can I get back to wasting my life away by pining?"

"I called Logie and we decided to all go on a walk together."

"Again?"

"Yeah. It snowed overnight and me and Logie wanna go out in the snow again."

"You mean you wanted to go out in the snow again and Nerdy Wolverine agreed because he's so in love with you that he can't say no?"

"Wasn't that what I said?"

"Clearly not because your face is pink at the mention of Nerdy Wolverine loving you. Which he does. So when's this walk anyway."

Patton grinned knowingly.

"Oh no, I know that look."

Patton giggled. "The walk's soon."

You crash like a rolling wave
You come around I lose my brain

Roman looked down from the new onslaught of fluffy white snowflakes and immediately caught sight of Virgil. The snowflakes were settling in his messy dark hair despite the many attempts he made to shake them out. His face was flushed pink from the cold and he had his hands shoved deep in the pockets of his purple coat. He looked over at Roman and their eyes met for a second before Roman lost face and looked back up at the sky.

"You owe me back a beanie." Were the first words out of Virgil's mouth when he and Logan walked over to them. "My ears are freezing."

"I- sorry."

"Whatever. As long as you can remember where we built the snowman, it's fine."

"Um, the snowman. Right." It took Roman's brain a few extra seconds to process what Virgil had said. The fact that Virgil was here was enough to stop Roman's brain from working. "Oh, right, the snowman. Uh, yeah, this way."

Can't find the sound under my tongue

Virgil shook out his beanie and pulled it down to his eyebrows. Roman laughed.

"What?"

Roman shook his head. "Nothing. Just... you look cute." He inwardly cursed for calling Virgil cute again.

"Maybe we should start trying to find Logan and Patton now."

"Hm?"

"I said that we should maybe try find Logan and Patton now."

"Oh, um, yeah." Roman shook his head slightly and smiled. "Sorry. Little lost in my own mind."

Virgil nodded and started walking. Roman jumped and caught up with him.

"Hot Topic?"

"Yeah Princey?"

"Oh, uh, nothing. Forget it."

Just another lovesick afternoon

Roman couldn't help but look at Virgil. He was just perfect. He was short enough that he could fit perfectly in Roman's arms, not like that had ever happened, but tall enough to not need help with most things. He was independent and strong and really, really funny. Roman couldn't count the amount of times he'd laughed at something Virgil had said. And to think he'd hated this boy when he'd first met him.

Roman was lovesick and he knew it. But he honestly couldn't care less.

Black butterflies and déjà vu

Virgil looked over at Roman and jumped when he was looking back at him. Roman's eyes widened for a second before he looked back at the path. Virgil followed suit, feeling butterflies jump in his stomach.

"Hey Hot Topic?" Virgil took a deep breath, trying to calm the butterflies in his stomach.

"Yeah?"

"I, um, well I, um, I know that you're you and I'm me and this is probably going to go very, very wrong. But, uh, the thing is that I know that you're you and I like that a lot. Like, a lot a lot. I, um, like you in a more than friend, uh, way."

Virgil blinked a few times, Roman had said that very fast. When it clicked, his eyes widened and he felt blood rush to his cheeks.

"You like me? Like, like-like?" Roman nodded, looking down at the pavement.

"I, uh, I feel the same."

"Seriously?" Virgil nodded and looked down at the ground.

"I just... couldn't find the right words."

"So, would you maybe want to go out some time? Like, on a date?"

Virgil nodded, smiling at the ground. "Yeah. Yeah, I'd really like that."

IT'S SNOWING IN ENGLAND SO I THOUGHT I'D ADD SNOW INTO MY STORY CAUSE IT NEVER SNOWS IN ENGLAND AND I LOVE SNOW SO MUCH! Anyway, hope you liked that Marilyn (or Allyster, if you've changed your name by the time you're reading this) it's a long one and I had so much fun writing it. God, I've missed writing about these idiots.
