[3rd Persons's POV]

Mia’s eyes were wide and her mouth in shape of an ‘o’ at her table where she sat with her friends Zimi and Maya. Zimi was a Japanese girl with straight chestnut brown hair and gray eyes, and Maya was a Czech girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes. There were three black boys who triplets. They wore matching outfits in different colours. Mia's hair was always the same with a portion of her short light brown braided back with her precious cyan hair ribbon. Mia's adjusted her light blue and dark blue striped tie, which was patterned with her signature cyan butterfly symbol, and she then raised her hand.

“Yes, Mia?” The 35-year-old teacher asked, her brown hair reached above her shoulder, a salmon shirt that had sleeves above the elbow, blue yoga pants, and lime sneakers. She was handing out the sheets for the activity. The class are going to be talking about their families this month.

“You said that we have to talk about our parents, brothers or sisters, grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles and cousins this month, right?” The teacher, Mrs. Jackson, nodded. Mia said her next words with a worried voice.

“What if our family is different? Like what if one of us have a lot of siblings? Or no aunts? Or no uncles?” The 7-year-old laid her hand on the skirt of her cyan t-shirt dress. It was flowy and looked beautiful when you twirled around in it. Mia had knee-length gray socks with a big dark blue stripe on the top of each of them, and light blue sneakers with white laces.

Mrs. Jackson chuckled and smiled, as if Mia were telling another light-hearted joke to the class. “Don't be silly, Mia! I'm giving a description of a normal family! If you have more siblings, feel free to create your own boxes for them. If you have no aunts or no uncles, draw an ‘X' on it. All I need is a mom and a dad, anyways.” Zimi patted Mia’s back as a way to comfort her. Zimi and Saarah only knew that Mia was the only kid in class to have parents of the same gender. Dahlia and Vanessa were in a different classroom that year.

Mia sighed. She was at a higher level at intelligence than other kids, she knows the basic meaning of ‘discrimination’ and ‘homophobia’. She brought her black glasses to her nose. They had a little cyan bow on the top right corner of the frame. Mia's afraid that she might be experiencing discrimination, and she knows that she is too young to face it. Unfortunately, not all adults are kind as her energetic father.

Mia and her table mates eventually got their family tree work sheets. The ‘parents' slots have been filled as ‘mom' and ‘dad' in permanent pen. Mia crossed her arms and glanced at her teacher, who was talking on the phone. Her eyes widened at the words that came out of the women’s mouth. She was talking bad about homosexual people, transgender people and non-binary people. The 7-year-old furrowed her brows and pouted a bit, her teacher had homophobia and discriminated people. Mia looked at her worksheet and flipped it over. She grabbed different coloured crayons and a pencil, then began to draw her own family tree. She also wrote an essay at the top right corner below her name, about equality, her two dads, and accepting others. Mia mentally thanked Logan for reading advanced books to her.

“Alright, so is everybody done their worksheets?” All of the students answered their teacher with a big wave of ‘Yeahs’. Mrs. Jackson through table to table and collected the sheets of diverse family trees. She then told the class to sit on the carpet as she was going to make all of them present and talk about their family. Mia knew she was going to tell everyone about her secret, and she was ready.

The Pakistani girl fixed the names of her parents to match what she truly called them. The brunette stood up and walked to her class as her name was called. She was the last one to present.

Home time was approaching, all of the kids had their backpacks on and didn't want to miss Mia's speech. They didn't know about her parents and curiosity got to them. The bow-wearing girl took a deep breathe and started to talk. A specific parent was early, it was his first time picking up his child from school. There was another parent beside him, who for some reason held out his phone to record Mia's speech, as if he knew it was going to leave a huge impact.

“Hi, I'm Mia. My full name is Mia Logicality Sanders." She took her family tree from her teacher. “And I'm going to share a secret of mine with you.” Mrs. Jackson didn't get the time to read Mia's family tree, nor essay. She was ‘busy’ on Facebook. Mia then flipped the page over, revealing her true family tree. She placed the paper in front of her, so that everyone could see her blue family tree, and pencil written essay.

“I have two dads named Logan and Patton. I love them very much. I live with Vanessa and Dahlia, and their dads with my dads. There's Thomas too!” Mia included the family tree of Vanessa and Dahlia. “My dads are very special to me. They may be different from others, but they're still my family.” Mia pointed at the words on the very top of the tree. It was written as ‘FamILY'. “I learned from the books I read, that families come in different shapes and sizes and that we should not make fun of them or bully anyone no matter what their skin colour, religion, shape, size, or who they are in love with, is. We all are people who are special in our own way. There is no such thing as a ‘normal’ family. People who bully gay people like my dads, who really love each other and are married, have homophobia. I will read a mini essay for Mrs. Jackson. Oh, and gay means that you are in love with people who are the same gender as you. If you are a boy and you marry another boy, you are gay.” Mrs. Jackson raised a eyebrow, trying to contain her anger and not make a scene.

“‘Dear Mrs. Jackson, I have recently learned that you have homophobia. I heard you talking on the phone, saying that gay people are bad people who deserve not to love each other. Which is a Falsehood. You also said that transgender people and non-binary people are a threat to humanity, and that there are only supposed to be two genders, along with saying that you have to stick and ‘act’ like your gender and not change it. More falsehoods. Adults are more smarter, yet some of them like you are being unsmart and are bullying other people for being themselves. I personally, am mad and offended towards your discrimination. It seems like adults who discriminate others need to go back to school and learn how to accept everyone. I do not think you deserve to be a teacher and educate us second graders if eventually you are going to hurt our feelings. My father who I call papa is really smart and intelligent. My other father who I call dad is a cheerful and caring person who is a dad to everyone. When dad makes puns, papa either facepalms, or groans but he still loves his husband. Yes my dads are married. Gay or straight parents, never underestimate or bully them. They both love and care for their family. Even though, not all parents are nice. Every child needs a parent, but not every parent deserves to raise a child. I know that you have two daughters so I hope you learn from this essay and love them no matter what. Who knows? One of them might be hiding something from you and are scared that they won't love you anymore. So, promise yourself that you'll be more open minded and accepting to others, including my dads and us children full of unique and diverse families. Ok? Anyone can be change and be a good person if they just try with pure intention. Sincerely, Mia Logicality Sanders. P.S Logicality is the ship name of my dads. Pretty cool right?’”

Mia got a huge round of applause from her classmates, Mrs. Jackson had a priceless face. She was full of embarrassment, anger, guilt, and shame. A highly educated 7-year-old was better than her at being a good person. She didn't even know where babies came from, yet she gave a speech as if she were older than her actual age.

“Woah Mia! You used a lot of big words in your essay, whatever that is! You're super smart!” Mia pushed up her glasses in pride. “Thank you Jason! I got my knowledge from the best. Like father like daughter, am I right guys?” She giggled.

Another kid raised her hand and smirked. “Which one?” Mia shot finger guns at her classmate and chuckled. Meanwhile, Mrs. Jackson has had enough of this. “Alright it's the weekend now so no homework! Pack your bags and leave or whatever!” The kids then scurried to get their backpacks and found their parents outside the door. Mia waved at hers then ran to her teacher. The brunette gave her family tree to Mrs. Jackson and gave a sad smile.

“Please keep it for the weekend, Mrs. Jackson. Just give it back to me on Monday, ok?” The conflicted women slowly took the paper from her student with shaking hands and nodded. Mia nodded at her with a hopefully grin as her eyes closed for a moment, then ran out the door to hug Logan.

“Papa!”

Lauran Karen Jackson ate dinner with her daughters Carole and Emily. They ate their meatloaf in silence. Carole’s eyes furrowed as she wore a nervous expression and glanced at her mother. Carole and Emily both had brown, long, hair. Carole's hair was styled into Sailor Moon’s signature Odangos and loose hair connected to their own hair buns, flowing down behind Carole’s head. She wore a white jean jacket and underneath, she wore a light pink pleated flowy dress that had a pastel rainbow. Emily wore a red cropped T-shirt and ripped blue jeans and her hair had blonde streaks and a ombre. Carole had deep blue eyes, while Emily had forest green eyes.

Lauren was in deep thought and conflict. She was a close minded brat outside of teaching with a simple mindset. She absolutely hated change and different. It was only 35 years later that she realized about how her discriminating ways were wrong and horrible. It is hard to Lauren to understand diversity, as she has been told numerous offensive falsehoods as a child and believed them. She needed to change, even if it was little by little, she needed to. Mia's presentation had changed her life. Oh how stupid she was! To have been blind the whole time and a source of cold without noticing it. Lauren will never forget Mia and her words. Carole then spoke, and clutched on her Patton pendent. Carole loved Sailor Moon and Sanders Sides. It was obvious.

“I have a huge, huge, confession to make.” Lauren made eye contact with her 17-year-old daughter. Her 16-year-old glanced at her pastel wearing sister. “Did you finally get a boyfriend?” Emily lit up. The fander just sighed and shook her head. “I'm going to tell you a secret I've hid for 5 years, I think it's time for me to tell you both.”

Lauren nodded. “Go ahead, sweetie. We're all ears.” Carole deeply inhaled, then exhaled. “Mom, Emily, I like girls. I'm gay. I'm a lesbian.” Time stopped. Lauren was in deep shock. Emily wasn't that much pleased.

“You're gay?” Carole answered at her sister’s question.

“Ok. Good for you, sweetie. I am uh, trying to be less of a homophobe due to one of my students who's weirdly highly intelligent. So um, I'll allow it, I guess. I need to understand a lot of things. Been thinking about my life for hours.” Carole nodded. Emily groaned.

“Great, now you're lame mom! Carole, I wish you weren't my sister. Can't believe I'm related to a fag.” Emily then made her way to her room, not darting an eye at anyone. Carole sighed and hung her head down. Lauren was… disappointed… but not at Carole…

The conflicted mother made here way to the seat next to her daughter and side hugged her.

“I will try to love you more. I will get rid of my homophobia.”

Mia was the first kid to arrive to class.

“Morning Mrs. Jackson! How was your weekend? I spend all of it with my dads! They were really proud of me! I think papa was more proud that dad! We ate Crofters Jam, and cookies, and I played the piano for them!” Lauren was taken a back by Mia's sudden friendly words and smile. She was a bad person, yet she's being treated with respect? She didn't deserve it. Her flashbacks to her weekend came across her mind, now she knew.

“That’s lovely to hear. My weekend was good. My daughter Carole told me that she was… gay. Emily, my other daughter appeared to have homophobia that Friday evening… and I watched Sanders Sides with Carole so, I know more about you and your fathers, so, that's my first step of changing. Or second step.” Mia beamed. Mrs. Jackson smiled and pulled out something from her bag. She bend down and gave Mia her family tree and essay.

“Thank you Mia, for treating my homophobia.”
