Mister Glassman-Moxiety

Well, my plan to finish all my drafts has just failed, lol. I apologize for not updating something sooner, it's just school, no motivation, executive dysfunction, the usual stuff. So yeah, a veRY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR BEAUTIFUL ANXIOUS EMO BOI!!

Of course the photos aren't mine, enjoy the story!

Let's paint a picture you're in class
The teacher writes the notes too fast
And there's a boy who sits in back
Who's too afraid to raise his hand
And ask if she can slow it down
So nervously he looks around
Can't bare to stand out in the crowd
And he's only gotten half the notes now

Out of the corner of his eye Patton noticed the boy struggling with the notes, he's always noticed him. Even though he never speaks. Even though he's shrouded in black, Patton noticed him. Patton wanted to be his friend, so - while continuing his notes - he made a plan to talk to Virgil, share his notes, and befriend him. Yes, that's a good idea.

The school bell rings and he feels deflated
He looks at his hand, he should've raised it
His biggest fear, he should've faced it
And now he's lost inside the pages

Virgil dejectedly put his papers in his folder as he cursed himself for not speaking up. Could you blame him? Everyone else seemed to be doing fine, the entire class would think he's slow and stupid if he couldn't keep up with the notes like they could. Virgil walked down the hall to the field where he has lunch. By himself. Alone. He sighs as he looked at his food, not feeling up to eating even though his stomach begged for food. A pair of shoes in front of Virgil caught his eye, he looked up to see a boy in his class.

"Hey kiddo! I'm Patton, we have the same English class! Can I sit with you?" Virgil nodded, silently wondering why this boy wanted to talk to him, sit with him. And kiddo? They're the same age.

"I noticed you were having trouble with the notes," ah, this was why, just to tease him, mock him, say - a paper was given to him. "So here, you can copy off mine." Virgil blinked at Patton, who was smiling at him. He went out of his way, probably missing lunch with his friends, just to help Virgil out. He smiled back at Patton, something he hasn't been able to do in a while.

"Thanks. 'M Virgil." Patton seemed to smile wider at that while Virgil started copying the notes. Patton's handwriting was neat but fun and childish, that perfectly represents him.

"Thar's a cool name!" Virgil chuckled at that, he hasn't been able to do that in forever! He could barely manage a snicker, but then Patton comes along and within less than five minutes of knowing each other he gets Virgil to let out a genuine chuckle.

"Thanks." Virgil said, both for the compliment and notes.

"It was no problem, I'm happy to help! Wanna be friends?" This guy. This adorable guy. He asks to be friends like they were in kindergarten again, when they were wistful and unaware of the world around them and how cruel people can be to those who are different. Virgil smiled a tiny bit and nodded, getting Patton's smile brighter than he's ever seen it.

He might be there but you'd never notice
Got a lot to say but he's soft spoken
He's a book that just isn't open
A tiny ripple in a stormy oceanGlassman, Mister Glassman
Glassman
Mister Glassman
He's really soft spoken
You never notice glass unless it's broken
Mister Glassman
He's really soft spoken
You never notice glass unless it's broken
Mister Glassman

Patton's chatty extroverted self matched perfectly with Virgil's quiet, introverted personality. He got Virgil to slowly open up to him, letting him speak when he can tell Virgil wants to say something. Patton wasn't hesitant to help Virgil through his hard days, those days where just one tap could make him shatter like glass, Patton helped. He even gave Patton a dad-themed nickname!

A few years later when now it's prom season
Mister glass isn't going unless he has a reason
There's a cutie in his class that he likes a lot
But he's afraid to ask because they've never talked
Plus if she says yes what's he gonna do?
Doesn't have a car, dude, he's screwed, he doesn't feel cool
He's too subdued and he's scared to meet her parents too

Virgil paced in his living room, wondering if he should send the text. The text to Patton. The one that reads "Will you go to the prom with me?" He doesn't know how Patton sees him, like a son or a best friend or does he want them to be something more? Augh! This is so confusing! Virgil looked at his phone and shook his head, deleting the message and instead asking if he wants to watch movies, bake cookies, and have a sleepover like they did for Junior prom.

P: {I'm sorry kiddo, but Roman asked me to go with him and I said yes.}

Roman. Another reason for him to not admit his feelings for Patton, because that sweet boy fell for the theater jock.

{That's great, have fun Pop-star!}

Boohoo, just another chance he blew
'Cause there's way too many things going on in his head
And he's always in his head thinking too far ahead
Could've gone to prom but instead he lays in bed
Thinkin' of all the things that he left unsaid till he's red

Virgil let his phone drop on his carpet and crawled into his bed, when he started crying he didn't know, but it was two hours before he could stop crying. This is where his overthinking always gets him, crying in bed to his regrets. He regrets not getting a ticket, he regrets not asking patton sooner, he regrets not speaking up in class over those stupid notes just so he doesn't have to deal with the pain now.

Sorry Mister Glass, the world has a way
But now I'm sure you've heard many people say
You miss every opportunity you don't take
Don't be shy kid, make your own fateGlassman, Mister Glassman
Glassman
Mister Glassman
He's really soft spoken
You never notice glass unless it's broken
Mister Glassman
He's really soft spoken
You never notice glass unless it's broken
Mister Glassman

Virgil didn't expect the doorbell to ring this late at night, he was too busy thinking over all the missed chances his brain loved to remind him of. When he opened the door the sight was enough to make him faint. Patton was in a dazzling bright blue prom dress, it reached down to his feet and had beautiful white flowers going from his left shoulder sleeve to the bottom right of his dress, the flowers covered most of the top and were bigger and more spaced out as they went down, his other shoulder had no sleeve. So yeah, Patton was drop-dead gorgeous, but the thing that made Virgil push his feelings aside was the fact that Patton was crying.

"Oh Patt." Patton threw himself onto Virgil, sobbing into his shoulder. Virgil closed the door and set Patton onto the couch, going into the kitchen and coming back with a plate of cookies.

"Now what happened?" Virgil gently asked, Patton curled into his side and recounted the events through sniffles and nibbling on cookies. How Roman acted like he was acknowledging Patton but was really focused on someone else, how Roman asked him to introduce him to a classmate named Logan, how Roman disappeared on him, how he found Roman dancing to the slow song with Logan, and how Roman told Patton he only wanted to go with him so he could introduce the other to Logan.

"I - I didn - n't know what to do - o, so I - I just ran he - ere." Patton said through hiccups. Virgil was furious.

"He's dead." Virgil growled.

"Please Virge, just leave it." Patton's voice was dull, he's never heard the happy boy so torn up over something.

"No, I'm not gonna leave it! Look at what that jerk did, he used you! You don't deserve that kind of treatment Patt. You deserve to be cared for, to be held, to be gentle with. You deserve someone who will give you flowers just because, someone who will constantly remind you of how cute and amazing you are. How your smile lights up a room, how your freckles look like the most perfect constellation to ever exist!" Virgil didn't realize he was letting his feelings get the best of him, but he stood there in the heavy silence, mouth hanging open at the look Patton was giving him and at his own realization over what he said.

"You - you really think that of me Virge?" Patton's face was unreadable, Virgil just shyly nodded.

Now Mister Glass is older and he's doing just fine
Yeah, he made it through high school even though he was shy
He's got a group of good friends and his future is bright
And he still gets sad but he's happy with his life
Remember when he didn't ask the cutie to prom?
Well, now he's got a couple kids and they're calling her mom, man
Remember when he couldn't raise his hand in class?
Well now he's up on stage in front of fans rappin' fast
But he still gets scared and he still gets nervous
'Cause you gotta fear the waves if you wanna go surfin'
Nothin' is for certain like does cursive have a purpose?
Was it worth it that you learned it? Probably not
I don't know, I digress

Virgil still remembers that night, he still remembers Patton kissing him. That was Virgil's first kiss and after that he didn't want to kiss anyone else, him and Patton just fit together, 2 halves of a whole puzzle. Actually, just the two corners, the rest was filled by his friends and family. Patton and him did go to different colleges, and Virgil was roommates with someone named Janus. At first it seemed like they had a mutual disliking toward each other at first sight, but they learned to get along. Then he made friends with the coffee addict of the campus Remy during a project. At the different college Patton made friends with a guy named Emile, and it was even better that they were roommates.

"Papa!" Their daughter's happy shout brought Virgil out of his reminiscence, he watched with a smile as their daughter ran to Patton and was picked up and spun around, both of them giggling. Patton kissed Virgil's cheek and wished him good luck, the noise of the crowd finally reaching his ears.

There was always that moment of nervousness before he went on, that moment where everything that can go wrong will run through his mind. He could trip on stage, he could mess up his own lyrics, his voice would crack or he would have a cough. But all that slipped away the moment he slung the guitar over his head. He stepped onto the stage and the crowd was roaring, he smiled and waited for them to settle down before strumming the first chord.

"But the point I'm trying stress is that we're all just made of glass
Even when we're at our best, we can break, we can split
Or disappear or lose our temper
Even if you think you're bulletproof, I am glass and so are you."

Patton watched Virgil sing from backstage, he smiled at how far his husband had come. From the shy kid too anxious to raise his hand to singing in front of a crowd of hundreds of people. Patton was glad he kissed Virgil that night. Even though he was heartbroken over Roman, Patton realized he'd always loved Virgil.

Once the show was over Patton ran over to Virgil the moment he passed through the backstage door and wrapped his arms around his husband's shoulders, planting a soft kiss on Virgil's lips.

"You did amazing, love." Patton said after he pulled away, arms still around Virgil's shoulders.

"Thanks puppy, but I'm all sweaty, you shouldn't be hugging me." Virgil chuckled, Patton rolled his eyes with a fond smile and let go.

"Okay okay."

"When did she fall asleep?" Virgil asked, gently brushing their daughter's bangs from her forehead.

"A few verses into Waterfall." Patton leaned against the arm of the couch, softly smiling.

Virgil chuckles. "That always gets her to fall asleep." Patton nods in agreement.

"I'll shower here and then we can go home." Patton nods again and tidies up a bit as Virgil goes in to the attached bathroom; he put the snacks they didn't eat back in the bag and threw the wrappers and used napkins in the trash, then waited for Virgil.

Virgil was glad to be where he is now. He used to struggle by himself with his anxiety, he was drowning in it, but then he had Patton. That kind boy was patient and helped him move forward, step by step, and pull him out of the water. He could never imagine being with someone else, Patton was perfect to Virgil, even his flaws.

Virgil had one hand holding Patton's while the other held the snack bag, Patton's other hand was preoccupied by keeping their sleeping daughter from falling off him, even though she had a tight grip in her sleep. They exited the backstage room that would be theirs for a few days as Virgil had more concerts, the temporary golden star on the door, with Virgil's name in bold cursive.

SO A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR BEAUTIFUL EMO!! AND ALSO HAPPY LATE BIRTHDAY TO EMILE!! I'm sorry I missed it, but I just haven't exactly been that well I guess, but then I got the motivation to write so I did.

Anyway I hope you enjoyed this, it was based off a song I recently found and immediately loved, it's called Mister Glassman by Scotty Sire. Highly recommend listening to it.

Love you all~
