I'm Not Good With Kids-No Ship
Bold = lies
Virgil was just in his room listening to his music when he heard a shout-or cry-for him. Virgil sat up quickly and took his headphones off one ear to be sure he wasn't hearing things.
"Virgillll!" There it was again. The voice was whiny and high pitched, it didn't sound like Patton, Roman, Logan, or Deceit. Virgil got up and hesitantly walked down the stairs, he was at the part where the wall stopped and railing started and peeked around the corner to The Mind's living room. Virgil paused and rubbed his eyes, risking messing up his eyeshadow and foundation to make sure he was seeing what he was actually seeing. Virgil's stomach dropped, he was.
Three five-year-olds were sitting there wearing the three main sides' clothes. The one wearing Roman's was holding a wooden sword and waving it at a small plushie that looks like a mini Dragon-Witch, the one wearing Logan's clothes was comforting the one wearing Patton's clothes, who was close to tears.
"Viirrgiilllll!!" The one wearing Patton's clothes cried again, that snapped Virgil into action. He ran the rest of the way down the stairs and stopped in front of the two children that weren't acting like crazy lunatics and waving wooden swords around (like one specific child wearing Roman's clothes).
"Patton? Logan?" Virgil asked, uncertain if these were them or Patton just summoned three five-year-olds and Roman dressed them up as the three missing sides to play a cruel prank on Virgil. Both boys nodded, confirming it was them, then Patton latched himself onto Virgil as Logan was speaking really fast and scientific, Roman just kept on attacking the plushie. As if he felt chaos, at that exact moment, Deceit walked out of The Mind's kitchen and into the living room drinking a glass of water.
"Did you do this?" Virgil interrogated, narrowing his eyes at the snake-like character that looked at the three children.
"Of course I did (didn't)." He replied in his suave tone, rolling his different colored eyes. It was obviously a lie, because there's a certain smugness Deceit has when he lies, and that made Virgil confused. If Deceit didn't do it, who did?
"Roman did it." Logan said, his voice had the same emotionless tone but it was more adorable and high pitched. Virgil rolled his eyes, of course he did. Roman doesn't think about his actions when he's being creative, therefore he doesn't think about the consequences that will happen later on. Virgil picked Roman up, deciding that it was not a good idea to have a more hyper than normal Roman running around and swinging wooden sword. Virgil had to get close to the ground because he almost immediately dropped the squirming, five-year-old Roman, Patton thought this would be a wonderful time for a piggyback ride. Virgil shakily stood up as he had an arm wrapped around Roman's stomach, holding Roman up, and his other arm around Patton's leg, so he wouldn't slip off, while Patton gripped the collar of Virgil's shirt and Roman kept squirming and swinging his sword, both were smiling.
"I can't believe I'm saying this," Virgil mumbled to himself, "Deceit, a little help would be nice, I'm not good with kids." Virgil said, exasperated and struggling.
"I wouldn't (would), but this is so boring (fun) to watch." Deceit chuckled, this just heightened Virgil's already abnormally high anxiety.
'No help from Deceit, what will I do now? What if I drop them? What if they're stuck like this for good? What will it do to Thomas?' Deceit had noticed Virgil's eyeshadow darken, meaning his anxiety level was going up, he rushed over to help. Deceit may be a liar and portray as the antagonist, but he knows when to stop. Just as Deceit got close, Roman had accidentally hit Deceit in the nose. Deceit reels back holding his nose and not even lying about the pain, that made Virgil feel a bit better.
"Get back dra-Detheit? You're big. How did thith happen?" Virgil nearly forgot that Thomas had a lisp when he was younger, and that lisp went to Roman since he was in control of Thomas most of the time during his elementary years, it was one of Virgil's favorite times to use to keep Thomas up at night. Deceit had no knowledge of this, since he's only been around for a short period of time, and he was tempted to laugh and coo at Roman's adorable lisp.
"I do (don't) know, but I'm sure Logan won't (will) tell you." Deceit smirked down at the nerd that was now five, hiding his chuckle at the idea of the three more powerful sides becoming toddlers.
"Roman, you dope half-wit!" Logan started, getting the anger out of his tiny body, it honestly was more adorable than anything.
"Why are you complementing him and then insulting him?" Patton asked, Logan was about to say something else then paused, thinking about what Patton meant.
"Don't tell me 'dope' is another slang term I'll need to learn." Logan sighed in annoyance when Virgil nodded.
"What does it mean?" Logan asked, summoning a flash card and sloppily writing 'dope' on the front, then flipped it to the back to write the definition.
"Either a related term to 'awesome' or it's drugs, I don't really know." Virgil said with a shrug, making Patton giggle at the movement.
"Thould we tell Thomath?" Roman asked, that made Virgil's mind whirl. Is this affecting Thomas? What would happen to him?
"Oh, we probably shouldn't (should), it's not like we aren't (are) his personalities or anything." Deceit sarcastically remarked, rolling his different colored eyes in annoyance.
"Stupid child handwriting!" They all heard Logan shout, bringing their attention to him, he crumpled the notecard into a ball and threw it away from him in frustration. Of course, Deceit is apparently the target today because the crumpled paper notecard bounced off the snake side of his face harmlessly. Virgil could say that Deceit's face, at that moment, was a total mood. There was some 'I want to die/kill me' a bit of 'eff you all' and 'I'm done/eff this' and it was all on the lying side's face.
Deceit let out a long sigh, "Let's all go see Thomas." And he disappeared, Logan, Patton, and Roman sunk down with Virgil after he adjusted the way he held the two five year olds in order for him to hold onto Logan as well as Patton and Roman.
*Thomas's living room*
Deceit appeared in Roman's spot, and apparently Thomas was watching a Netflix movie called Edge of the World. (I jumped a couple times during that. Disclaimer: NEVER watch it in the middle of the night when everyone's asleep).
"Oh my god! Deceit!" Thomas shrieked, jumping and then putting a hand over his racing heart. Deceit just rolled his eyes.
"Yes, yes, 'eep, a snake!' I get it. But you might want to turn this off and the lights on." Thomas continued to look at Deceit skeptically, while Deceit could sense that Virgil and the now toddler Sides were going to be here soon. Deceit sighed in annoyance before he rushed over to the light switch, turned on the lights, and then took the remote from Thomas and turned off the movie. It was just in time too because Virgil rose up unsteadily, struggling to balance three toddlers at once.
"Virgil? Where did you get-oh my god! Are they Patton, Logan, and Roman?" Thomas seemed panicked and a little weirded out that his three main personalities were children. The three mentioned sides nodded, confirming it was them.
"How did they get like this?" Thomas asked, looking at Deceit for an answer. Unlike Virgil, Thomas didn't seem to be accusing Deceit of anything.
"It wath that wench, the Dragon-Witch!" Roman dramatically yelled, Thomas looked at Roman with wide eyes.
"I...I honestly don't know how to feel about this, you know, since my feelings are five years old!" It was clear Thomas was panicking, Virgil immediately set the three children down and rushed over to Thomas. Virgil let Thomas curl into him as Virgil started to take in his anxiety, his eyeshadow was a bit darker when Thomas had calmed down and pulled away.
"Do you know how long this will last, Roman?" Thomas asked, and sighed in defeat when Roman shook his head.
"I guess you guys can hang out here until this wears off." Thomas said, flopping onto the couch.
"But what if it doesn't wear off? What if their stuck like this forever? How will-" Virgil's worrying rant was abruptly cut off when Thomas turned on Netflix and put on Mary Poppins Returns. It was as if a switch was flipped, all the sides made their way to the couch, eyes glued to the screen, and sat still the entire time the movie played. The three five year olds that have been sitting still for an extended period of time were containing their energy that was just growing larger, once the movie was done, chaos ensued. Patton and Roman were playing a risky game of tag, jumping on and off of things, climbing onto things they shouldn't be climbing on (including the three adults), and just being overall energetic menaces. Logan, no one can stop him, was pacing around the living room and counting to infinity at the top of his little lungs. Virgil's fight or flight reflexes kicked in, it took both Thomas and Deceit to pry a hissing Virgil out of the top shelf of one of the cabinets in the kitchen. Everyone froze when the doorbell rang.
"Oh! That'll be the pizza." Thomas said, his voice was cheery but he looked as if he had a run in with a mini tornado. Virgil and Deceit watched him get up and go to the door before looking wearily at the three five year olds, who were still acting like Taz from Looney Toons.
"To be honest, I really wish I had shut Roman up when he was summoning the Dragon-Witch." Deceit was definitely exhausted if he was telling the truth, the sides have only been five years old for maybe three hours, and already the three adults were exhausted. Virgil didn't even bother to smack him upside the head, he just muttered that Deceit was an idiot and continued to keep an eye on Roman and Patton. It was a relief for the adults when, as soon as the pizza was set down, the three kids stopped what they were doing and sat down quietly while eating a slice they grabbed for themselves.
"Remind me, Virgil, when I'm financially stable for a kid, to get a teen." Thomas said, watching the three sides, who have finished their pizza slices, yawn and snuggle cutely together as they fell asleep.
"Noted." Virgil mumbled, slouching down the couch and sliding onto the floor like a liquid cat. They all fell asleep on Thomas's couch-well, Virgil fell asleep on the floor, but that's beside the point-and it was a relief to Virgil, Deceit, and Thomas when the three sides woke up normal age.
"What have we learned Roman?" Thomas asked, his hands on his hips like a disappointed parent, Patton copying him.
"To not summon the Dragon-Witch inside The Mind." Roman said, head down as if he was a child being scolded by their parents.
"Where should you do that instead?" Patton questioned in a tone that made Roman know that now is not the time to be funny.
"The Imagination." Roman sighed.
"Good." Thomas said, letting Roman go back to The Mind.
Thankfully, an incident like that never happened again, but, more than once, they had to help Roman out when he got into trouble in The Imagination.
