Virgil sat with his legs crossed on the blue picnic blanket that Patton had rolled out two hours earlier. Normally Virgil wasn't much for going outside but right now he was sitting in the shadow of a tree and watching Patton walk around on a field, picking wildflowers, and they'd spend two hours before that talking and eating cookies and maybe being outside wasn't the worst.
Patton was already holding a big bouquet of flowers in a multitude of colors, and now and then he looked back at Virgil, grinning at him. After a few more minutes Patton came back over to Virgil, sitting down on the part of the blanket that was in the sun.
"Look, aren't they pretty." He said, pushing the bouquet into Virgil's hand. Virgil set his phone down onto the blanket to hold it properly, taking the flowers carefully.
"Not as pretty as you." Slipped from Virgil's mouth, causing his boyfriend's cheek to turn bright red.
Virgil would never admit to being such a sap when their friends were around, but Patton was simply the cutest person he had ever met and despite their three month long relationship it still amazed him that the boy in front of him was really his boyfriend.
"Oh, I got an idea! Do you trust me?" Patton said, shining up with excitement. Virgil eyed him with slight suspicion.
"You wouldn't ask that unless you knew I wouldn't want to agree." He said and Patton immediately pouted.
"Pretty please?" Patton said, looking at him with those puppy dog eyes that would make anyone with a heart agree to anything. Virgil didn't stand a chance.
"Fine, do whatever you want." Virgil said, giving in easily. Patton's wide grin made whatever he was planning worth it, even if it turned out the idea was a tickle war. Patton gestured for Virgil to come closer and he shuffled up to Patton, then being turned around to sit with his back towards him.
Then Patton's hands were in his hair, carefully pulling the hair tie off to let Virgil's shoulder length hair free of the bun it had been put up in. Patton's fingers dragged through his hair, brushing it as well as he could without a brush. He pressed a kiss to the back of Virgil's head and then he reached around him to steal a flower from the bouquet.
Patton began to carefully braid his hair, likely some complicated braid that Virgil would never be able to copy. Patton would always be playing with Virgil's hair and learning braids and other ways to style it. Patton kept stealing flowers from Virgil's hold, which he didn't think too much of until Patton accidentally poked his neck with the stem of one.
"Patton... are you braiding flowers into my hair?" He then asked, being met by silence that was very telling. "Pat?"
"Maybe!" He said, taking another flower, pressing a kiss to Virgil's shoulder.
"What, am I Rapunzel now?" Virgil joked, of course thinking of that scene where the kids were braiding her hair. They had watched Tangled yesterday when they had had a sleepover, Patton's turn to choose the movies, and it must be from there he was getting the inspiration.
"You could go as Rapunzel for halloween!" Patton suggested and Virgil scrunched his face despite Patton not being able to see it.
"No." He said immediately, Patton stealing another flower. Dressing up as a princess for halloween was not really how Virgil celebrated things.
"Purple dress?" Patton said, as if to sweeten the deal. While Virgil wouldn't mind a dress it just wasn't very halloween-y, there should be blood and scary makeup and capes and red or white contact lenses and things like that.
"...I have to be spooky, Pat." Virgil said, rolling his eyes, glad Patton couldn't see that or his smile.
"Of course you do." Patton said with laughter in his voice. He had known Virgil for years and knew exactly how serious he was about his halloween costume and how much time he would spend on it to make it as spooky as possible.
Virgil set the flowers down by his side, then selecting a few that he began to weave together into a flower crown to give his hands something to do as Patton continued to amuse himself with Virgil's hair.
"Done!" He said a few minutes later, taking Virgil's phone and taking a picture, showing Virgil what it looked like. Since his hair wasn't that long the braid wasn't either, but Patton had somehow done an amazing job anyway and despite this definitely not being anywhere near his style he would admit that it looked pretty good.
"Thanks, Pat. It looks amazing." He said, turning around with a smile and showing his boyfriend the flower crown before carefully placing it on his head. Patton gasped, reaching up to carefully touch the flowers.
"Aw, we match." He said.
"That's so gay." Virgil snorted.
"Yes, we are." Patton said with a giggle, then leaned in to kiss Virgil.
