12: doing the other's hair
I was like hmmmm what do u do with hair... OH dye it
--
"This looks... Weird." Logan said, staring in the mirror with a mildly uncomfortable frown. Virgil laughed quietly into his sleeve, definitely agreeing.
They'd bleached Logan's hair because, finally, after months of careful persuasion Logan had admitted that he did want to dye his hair. (Which Virgil was so, so excited about.)
"Don't worry, it's time for the dye." Virgil said, forcing a neutral expression onto his face, because he knew that he shouldn't laugh at Logan when he saw it, it would only make him feel self conscious.
"There's no going back, I suppose." Logan said, sitting back down on the edge to the bathtub. Virgil grinned and unscrewed the lid to the jar of dark blue hair dye.
He'd been wanting to dye his boyfriend's hair ever since they became friends two years ago, but the other had outright refused and shit the idea down immediately for an entire year before Virgil started to somewhat succeed in un-brainwashing Logan from the whole 'you need to look professional to get a job and deserve respect' bullshit that he had clearly been fed his entire life.
Virgil having constant purple hair and several piercings and still having what could only be considered as a professional and boring job also helped.
"Alright, let's do this." Virgil set the container of dye down carefully on the bathroom sink, putting on a pair of plastic gloves before scooping up a bit of the dye in his hand. He met Logan's eyes to check with his one last time but Logan only nodded, smiling insanely softly, and honestly, Virgil was such a goner for this man.
He gestured for Logan to turn around as best he could and then began to apply the dye as carefully as he could, doing his best to not get any on his ears, forehead, or neck. He massaged the dye into his hair, from years of experience dying his own hair knowing that there was no way to avoid getting the dye on the scalp.
Logan sat quietly the entire time, seeming unbothered by the cold and slimy feeling of the dye (which Virgil had never liked). When Virgil deemed his job done he peeled the gloves off his hands and threw them in the trash, then watched as Logan stood up and peeked into the mirror, shaking his head at the sight of himself.
"My hair will be... very blue." He stated and Virgil's lips twitched slightly in effort not to smile.
"That's the point." He said, reaching out to give Logan's hand a squeeze.
"You fine with that?" Logan turned to him, laughing quietly.
"I think it's slightly too late to change my mind now. But yes, I think I will be just fine with that. It might be... refreshing to make a change to my appearance." Logan confessed and Virgil nodded without saying anything. That was exactly how he felt every time he dyed his hair.
Virgil read on the dye jar that there was a thirty minute wait before they were going to wash the dye out of Logan's hair, which he knew already but always double checked. While waiting they both sat down in the bathtub that Logan had first wiped down with a towel and watched a few youtube videos on Virgil's phone, Logan thankfully, very careful not to lean his head back and smear blue dye on their bathroom wall.
(Virgil did know from experience that hair dye wasn't fun at all to scrub off the walls or the floor, especially if the marks were not discovered until days later, then they were impossible to get rid of.)
A timer finally went off on Virgil's phone and he got up from his fairly uncomfortable position. Logan got out of the bathtub too and kneeled on the floor, leaning his head over the bathtub, looking inconvenienced by the position. Virgil threw a black towel at him that he could put under his knees, and then he grabbed the showerhead to start washing out the dye from Logan's hair.
It took probably twenty minutes and Virgil had his boyfriend explain how a plane could fly to entertain him meanwhile. Finally the water started looking like normal water again instead of being navy blue and Virgil grabbed another black towel to carefully dry his boyfriends hair with, grinning at seeing how blue his boyfriends hair really was now.
He threw the towel to the side and Logan got to his feet slowly. Virgil ran his hands through his boyfriend's messy hair, smiling widely at him.
"You look so pretty." He said, not able to resist the temptation to tug Logan in and give him a proper kiss. Logan was only a little flustered as they parted.
Logan stepped out in front of the mirror, a smile tugging at his lips as his eyes fell on his reflection and he reached up to try and somewhat style his still wet hair.
"Looks cool, right?" Virgil said, coming up behind him and resting his head on his shoulder. Logan met his eyes in the mirror.
"I do like it. This was a good idea." He said, then carefully pulling off the gray dye-stained t-shirt that he had borrowed from Virgil (he had long since dubbed that shirt his hair dying shirt as it was no use in spilling dye on a new shirt every time he dyed his hair).
He disappeared to their bedroom to get dressed and Virgil busied himself with cleaning up in the bathroom, screwing the lid back on the half empty dye container.
Then he joined Logan in the bedroom to get dressed properly too, distracting Logan by giving his kisses and playing with his hair and complimenting him until the blush on his face seemed permanent. It might have been date night, but it took them a while to get out of the apartment.
