"How are your other classes going, though?" Logan asked after hearing Virgil complain about his science teacher for ten minutes, curious if there had been any change since they last talked about school. His laptop screen froze for a second as Virgil grimaced and leaned back in his chair.

"Fine I guess, no major disasters happening. Yet." Virgil said, sounding very convinced that everything would fall apart any minute.

"Can't wait for college. I could go in the US, and then we could, you know, actually meet." Virgil mumbled, tapping his pencil against the paper he was drawing on. It wasn't unsurprising that they would slip into this topic of conversation, they always did.

For the past hour they had been talking while doing their homework, although Logan had not gotten much progress on his own

"Are you sure you would want to do that? This isn't exactly a great place, I think it would be better if I came and studied abroad in Australia." Logan pointed out. To be fair he did not know much about the school system in Australia, but could it really be worse than the one he was used to?

"Ugh, whatever. As long as I get to see you." Virgil said, leaning his head in his hand and staring stubbornly into his web camera.

"How sappy of you." Logan said, something that Virgil always said to him when he was being sentimental.

"Shut up, I'm tired." Virgil said, jokingly flipping him off. His words made Logan glance down at the corner of his laptop where the time was displayed and quickly he did the math in his head. He sighed.

"Correct me if I am wrong, but is it not past three in the morning for you?" He asked, Virgil immediately looking like someone caught doing something they shouldn't.

"Oh, ha ha, would you look at that, I had no idea." He said, making it intentionally obvious that he was joking.

"Shouldn't you be asleep?" Logan asked. "Your homework can wait, getting a sufficient amount of sleep is more important.

Virgil scratched at the paper with his pen, groaning, "I don't want to."

"Why not? You love to sleep. Is there something stressing you?" Logan wondered. If Virgil was staying up past three it was usually because something wasn't right. Virgil sighed and rested his head on his arms.

"I just, ugh, I don't want to have to wait until hours after I wake up to see you again. It's so quiet when we hang up, I hate it." He said, stubbornly not looking up to look at Logan.

"Oh." Logan said, a feeling of fondness hitting him in that way that only Virgil ever was the cause of.

"Besides, being up at night is better than being up in the morning or during the day. Daytime sucks, I don't want to have to deal with other people being awake." Virgil continued, letting go of the pencil and sliding the paper to the side.

"I miss you too, when we hang up. I like hearing your voice and seeing you and what you are doing, even if it's through a screen. I… wish you were here with me." Logan dared to say, wondering if his words would make Virgil more embarrassed or not. Logan did spend an embarrassing amount of time imagining what his life would be like if Virgil was there with him.

"Me too. If I was there… Well, first of all, I'd give you some cuddles, you touch starved little shit." Virgil grinned and Logan leaned back in his chair, aching to see that smile in person.

"Coming from you, fucker." He responded and Virgil snickered, reaching for something out of view and then taking a sip of a can of Monster that he had grabbed. Logan frowned.

"Oh, come on, that's not good for you. If you feel tired you could also just go to bed." Logan said, again reminding Virgil of the time. As much as he wanted to keep talking to Virgil for a few more hours he also wanted Virgil to take care of himself.

"Second thing I'm doing when I see you is making you drink an energy drink." Virgil taunted, sticking his tongue out. Logan refrained from mentioning that Virgil's level of sleep deprivation got very noticeable sometimes.

"Good luck." Logan said and Virgil pulled a mocking face that only lasted a second before he was smiling too much.

"I'm not going to bed tho." Virgil said, toying with a purple fidget spinner that he seemed to always have ready in his pocket.

"But I don't want to be the reason why you're disregarding self care." Logan said, knowing very well that Virgil was just as persistent when it was Logan who was up in the early hours in the morning to talk to him. (And, Logan would not tell Virgil so, but it was always worth it, no matter how exhausted he was in the morning.)

"Sometimes I think self care is also letting myself ignore what I should do and instead just enjoy what is making me happy. Which is you." Virgil said.

"I'm not going to let you ruin your sleep schedule just because you're making me feel emotions." Logan pointed out.

"Mhm." Virgil said and they both sat quietly, Virgil watching as his fidget spinner slowed and then stopped. Logan closed his biology textbook, putting it inside his backpack. He began to tidy up his desk, sorting his pens and putting his papers in a neat stack.

"When are you going to show me what you're drawing?" Logan wondered, a common question that was always met with the same response.

"Come here and take a look for yourself." Virgil said, ever so predictable. Logan might have only known Virgil for nearing two years, and it might have only ever been online, but he could swear he knew Virgil better than anyone else in his life.

"I will, just you wait, I'm positive I will be able to come study in Australia." Logan promised. He had good grades, good enough to get into most colleges, and he had been saving all the money he could get his hands on for years now, and even if he and his parents did not agree on much they were willing to help pay his tuition as long as he got an education good enough to their standards.

"Yeah, and when you do and we get a place together… that's gonna be awesome." Virgil mumbled, having leaned his head in his hand and currently looking like he was about to fall asleep any minute, eyelids drooping.

If they got a place together… That was also something they often discussed, a shared dream that made Logan more excited about the future than anything else in his life did.

If they were living together, then he wouldn't be convincing Virgil to go to bed, he could just do things like grabbing Virgil and pulling him into bed. And if Virgil was sad or anxious he could extend the other his hand and sit with him, remind him of his breathing exercises and that there was at least one person that would always be by his side, not text him from across the world.

No matter how stupid it was Logan just wished he could reach through his screen or climb through it and into Virgil's life. He hated how there was a fourteen hours time difference between them, it was always the opposite time of the day for Virgil and it always served to remind Logan of how possibly far away they were from each other.

Virgil's head dropped slightly and he abruptly sat up again, blinking hard. Logan shook his head for the billionth time thinking that Virgil was too stubborn for his own good, a trait they shared.

"I'm not sleeping, I'm awake." Virgil said, clearly having trouble focusing his eyes. Logan rolled his eyes and sighed, but then sat up a little straighter.

"Maybe… I've got an idea. You could go to bed, but you bring your laptop and we don't hang up. I can read out loud for you so it isn't too quiet while you fall asleep. How's that?" Logan asked, already reaching for his book that was somewhere on his desk, behind his laptop if he remembered correctly. Virgil blinked.

"You would do that for me?" Virgil wondered, as if there was something Logan would not do for him, as if Virgil was not the most important person in Logan's life, despite the distance between them.

"Of course. And I can just leave my call on and then I will be here when you wake up too." Logan offered, because it was only half past one in the day for him, the probability was high that he would still be up when Virgil woke up.

"Yeah, please." Virgil said, sliding off his desk chair and the picture shook as Virgil lifted his laptop up and placed it on his bed. He was out of view for a few minutes, but then he crawled into his bed dressed in black pajama shorts and a blue hoodie that Logan had sent him many months ago.

"I'm ready, even brushed my teeth, be proud." He said, pulling his covers over himself and curling up into a ball.

"I'm proud." Logan said, opening his book up to the chapter he was on. He glanced up at the screen, watching Virgil for a few seconds, seeing his purple hair falling down his face and how he had pulled the sleeves of the hoodie up to almost cover his hands. Virgil smiled sleepily and Logan quickly redirected his attention to the book, eyes searching the page to find where he had stopped reading earlier today.

Logan began to read, glancing up at his screen now and then to see how Virgil was doing, noticing that he had fallen asleep only a few minutes later. He read the entire rest of the chapter before putting his book down and looking at Virgil who was fast asleep and cuddling a pillow.

Logan tore his eyes away and then quietly resumed his homework, having many hours to spend until Virgil would wake up again, which didn't seem as bad as it usually did since Virgil was still kind of with him.

At least in a year or so they would really be together, Logan did not care what it would take, he was going to go to school in the same city as Virgil and he was going to live with him and they would have a future together. And he refused to think of how long it felt like it was until then. They would get there.
