"Cause when a heart breaks, no it don't break even," Roman sung softly, as he jogged up a tall hill. The night sky was an inky black canvas, with little dots of light where a needle had pierced it. In his backpack, he carried a large telescope(borrowed from astolronomy nerd Logan) and an abundance of snacks(courtesy of Patton).

With music thumping in his ears, he jumped over a hole and finished his trek in a sprint. When he reached the top of the hill, he sat down beneath a tall oak tree and unzipped his bag. He set up the telescope in front of his, angling the lens at the sky, then peered through it. Little, faint streaks of light crossed his visions. The meteor shower was barely visible, but he enjoyed it anyway. Being outside gave him a chance to relax and be free of his responsibilities for a while.

Suddenly, something caught his attention. A pulsing white spot in the sky, brighter than any other star. He watched, fascinated, as it grew larger, the white color flickering and morphing into a deep purple. It reached such a size that Roman was able to set aside the telescope and see it with the naked eye. The purple dot streaked across the sky, nearly blending in with the darkness. His eyes went wide as he realized that the dot was headed straight for him.

He grabbed his telescope and bag, then scrambled off the hill as fast as possible, trying to put distance between himself and the mysterious purple star.

Boom!

The hillside exploded, sending chunks of earth and grass hurtling in all directions. Roman pressed himself flat against the ground, closing his eyes as burning debris rained down all around him. He held tight to his bag and curled into a ball.

A high pitched noise reached his ears, though he wasn't sure if it was from the explosion or not. Slowly, the sound faded to a dull whine, and he pulled his hands away from his ears. Trembling from head to toe, he sat up, and realized exactly how lucky he was.

The hill was in a state of ruin, the oak tree ripped to shreds and scattered across the field with the rest of the wreckage. The crater smoked.

Roman got to his feet and staggered towards the blast site. His bag seemed to weigh a million pounds. He collapsed to his knees at one point, but forced himself to keep trudging up the smoldering slope. When he finally reached the edge, he braced himself, and peeked over the side.

Lying in the center of the crater was a young man.

He wore a grey and purple hoodie, but his clothes were singed at the edges. His eyes were closed and his skin was pale.

Roman leaned closer for a better look, and lost his grip on the root he was holding. He tumbled into the crater, somehow smacking every rock on the way, until he collided with the person with a groan of pain. Sucking in a breath, he quickly jumped back, untangling himself from the handsome stranger.

He checked himself for further injuries, yanking up his shirt and sighing at the bruises, when a soft moan drew his attention.

The stranger was stirring, his eyes fluttering open to reveal deep, onyx irises. Little specks of amethyst dotted the darkness. He reached up and pressed a hand to his forehead, releasing a huff.

"Excuse me...?" Roman tried. The stranger gasped and whirled around to face him, his mysterious eyes wide and anxious. "Woah, I'm not gonna hurt you, calm down."

"Wh-Where am I?" he asked, shaking his head. "Is this Earth?"

"Uh, yeah," Roman replied, frowning. "Where did you come from? You absolutely destroyed the entire field. I was trying to watch the meteor shower!"

"Sorry," the stranger said. "I should probably introduce myself. My name is Virgil, and I came from Heaven. I'm an Angel."
