They were sitting in the late afternoon sun which made Patton's brown hair appear a dark gold, and his warm brown eyes fixed on Virgil as he talked was probably more effective than the sun at keeping him warm.

"And she was walking like ten dogs, and I got to pet all of them!" Patton said before continuing to tell him everything he could remember about each of the dogs, and Virgil was left to just sit there, sipping his burning hot coffee, pretending that he wasn't as whipped for Patton as he was.

"This one really, really, big dog got so excited that he almost pushed me over, and he was so cute, you should have seen him, Vee, the biggest dog I've ever seen! I would die for all of them." Patton took a pause from his storytelling, taking a sip of the hot chocolate that Virgil had bought him and smiling brightly at him.

Virgil wanted to kiss him so bad but, besides the fact that he was a huge coward, he had no idea if Patton would want him to. They might literally be on a date at the moment, but Virgil was not entirely sure as he had asked if Patton wanted to go out together, just the two of them, to get coffee and watch the dogs in the park (and Patton had said that that sounded great), if Patton knew that he had meant it in a date way, not their normal going out for coffee way.

Sure, Patton had held his hand while they walked from the coffee shop to the park, but that wasn't unusual, Patton was just affectionate like that.

A breeze rustled the, still green, leaves in the trees, and Patton shivered slightly, still wearing only short sleeves despite the fact that it was more autumn than summer at this point, and it had definitely been getting a bit colder for the past two weeks.

"Are you cold?" He wondered, already pulling his hoodie off.

"Maybe a little- oh, no, Verge, I can't take your hoodie. Then you will be cold." Patton said worriedly and put his cup of hot chocolate down, but Virgil's mind was made.

"Nah, I still got a sweater on." Virgil said, handing his hoodie to Patton and fully showing off the dark purple sweater that he had been wearing beneath the hoodie.

The sweater had stitched spiderwebs with the same white thread that Virgil had used for his hoodie, because he had had some left over, and what was the point of making his clothes more interesting if that didn't mean making them halloween themed?

"Well, if you're sure... thank you." Patton put the hoodie on, smiling to himself as he pulled up the too-long sleeves, and Virgil wondered briefly if letting Patton borrow his hoodie was a bad idea, because there was a serious worry that he might die from how cute Patton looked.

"This is so comfy, I get why you like it so much. But promise to tell me if you get cold, then I'll return it." Patton gave him a stern look.

"Okay, Pat." Virgil said, ignoring the fact that it actually was a bit cold without his hoodie, watching as Patton put his hands in the pockets and thinking that he would rather freeze than ruin this adorable sight. The sun shone between the tree branches, hitting Patton just perfectly. He looked up, squinting slightly at the sun but smiling, and maybe Virgil suffered from a momentary bout of insanity but...

"Can I kiss you?" He blurted and Patton flushed brightly red.

"Yes, please." He said, before Virgil even had the time to regret and feel anxious about what he had said. For a second he stared, then pulled himself out of his momentary shock at how quickly and enthusiastically Patton had agreed.

He wanted to ask if Patton was sure, if he had heard him correctly, but instead he leaned in and pressed their lips together before he chickened out. It was a short and sweet kiss, their lips brushing together for just two seconds before they parted, and Patton pulled the hood down over his red face, giggling excitedly into his hands.

"I've wanted to do that for ages." He said, not emerging from under the hood, instead ducking his head and leaning against Virgil. He lowered one hand from his flushed face, ever so carefully entwining his fingers with Virgil's.

"Me too." Virgil admitted. He wasn't sure if he would ever admit just for how long he had been wanting to kiss Patton, because it was a bit embarrassing that it had taken him so long to do so.

"So... this is a date then? I wasn't sure when you asked, but I really wanted it to be." Patton said, actually looking up at Virgil again.

"Yeah, this is meant to be a date, I- I really like you, Pat." He said, meeting Patton's eyes.

"Well, good, cause I really like you too." Patton said, face still red as he sat up properly and leaned in to kiss Virgil's cheek. Then his excitement seemed to get the best of him and Patton grinned brightly, practically tackling Virgil into the grass with how forcefully he hugged him.

Virgil really tried to be a little offended by the attack, but he couldn't help laughing just a little and wrapping his arms around Patton. It definitely was not cold lying there in the grass with Patton, the setting evening sun still falling on them.
