Horror Video Games (Platonic)
(Based on the video above, also slight trigger warning on gore/violence descriptions)
------------
Thomas sighed as he set his phone screen down on his chest, glancing around the living room. He has done everything on his phone and was now extremely bored, not knowing what to do now. He was too awake to go to bed, even though it was eleven o'clock at night, but it was too late to begin texting his friends about video ideas.
Another night when he was just up, that was gonna be great.
"If I'm gonna be up I might as well get coffee." Thomas said to himself, rubbing his temples as he stood up, yawning. He jumped a bit as he saw a dark figure hanging over the banister of the stairs.
"Coffee at eleven at night? Thomas, do you really think that's a good idea?" Virgil asked, tilting his head to the side a little, the hood of his jacket falling over his eyes which made him look a bit less menacing, like a puppy who's ears had flopped over it's eyes. Virgil scowled, pulling his hood up more as he walked down the rest of the steps, crossing his arms over his chest as he looked over at Thomas. "Why are you even up?"
Thomas opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off when his morality side popped up, wrapped up in his cat onesie, holding a mug of some sort of hot drink since the steam was fogging up his glasses. "Hey, kiddos! What're we all doing up? Isn't it kinda late for a party?" Patton asked, smiling widely as he waved to Virgil and Thomas.
"Hi, Patton! Just insomnia again, don't worry." Thomas replied, waving back. "Loving the onesie, it looks great."
"Aww thank you, it's quite puuurfect." The moral trait said before laughing at his own joke, Virgil covering his mouth with his hand to hide his smirk before glancing over to his left, seeing Thomas's logical side pop up at hearing Patton's dad joke, straighting his tie and glasses.
"Oh hey, Logan!" Thomas exclaimed. "Glad you could make it!"
"First of all, I could not evade to showing up, even if I would have preferred that option." Logan replied, smoothing out a wrinkle in his tie before looking up at Patton. "Parenthetically, that was a cretinous pun you made."
Patton only laughed and shook his head. "I only got parts of that, but I'm glad you could come and hear me being punny."
"You don't know half of what he said, do you?" Thomas asked, pinching the bridge of his nose, already knowing where this night could be going if Logan was in a mood and Patton was just going to push his buttons. The last time that had happened, it wasn't exactly pretty.
Patton shook his head again before putting his hands on his hips, looking at Thomas with a wide smile. "Nope! Does anyone mind translating?" He asked, looking around, seeing Logan let out a long, exasperated sigh.
Virgil glanced over at Thomas. "Well-" he began before Roman appeared, an eye mask on top of his head along with a bathrobe wrapped around him. Everyone turned to look at him in surprise, it was extremely rare for him not to be in his royal glory in front of the rest of the group.
"Oh hey, Roman!" Thomas called, waving to him. "Did we wake you up?"
Roman yawned, rubbing his eyes. "Thomas, if you're awake, then we're all awake. But I was planning on getting my well needed beauty sleep, but seeing as we're all already here let me change real quick." He said before clapping his hands together twice, his bathrobe being changed out with his usual outfit, the eye mask remaining in it's place.
"Um, Roman? You have eyes at the front of your head, not on top." Patton pointed out, the creative side rolling his eyes as he threw the eye mask across the room, Virgil catching it without looking up from his phone.
Thomas blinked a few times in surprise of all the previous events. "Okay...moving on, seeing as you all are awake...what should we do?"
The sides looked at each other in confusion, waiting for the other to come up with an answer. "Well...we could debate about something." Logan offered, Virgil looking up to pay attention, for once liking one of the logical side's ideas.
"Can we talk about when Thomas went to Starbucks, and when the employee there handed him his drink and said 'enjoy your coffee' he said 'you too'?" Virgil said, smirking as Thomas groaned in frustration, running his hand through his hair.
"No, we're not talking about that, Virgil, I was thinking we could all spend quality time together without debating, or talking about me saying dumb things." Thomas said, Virgil and Logan simultaneously rolling their eyes.
Patton's eyes widened in excitement, clasping his hands together. "Yes! Finally some well needed family time!" He exclaimed, grabbing Roman and Virgil's hands despite their protests, pulling them over to the couch, Logan and Thomas following the other three, beginning to argue about who sat where, settling on Thomas, Virgil, and Roman sitting on the floor while Logan and Patton were on the couch.
Thomas spent a few minutes hunting down snacks with the "help" of Virgil, who had walked over to sit on the kitchen counter and criticize each of the options, finally agreeing that Doritos would be fine as long as no one wiped their fingers on the couch, leaving orange stains that would be a pain to clean out. Virgil also added that jelly beans would also be a good addition, ripping open the bag to make things easier as he and Thomas walked back into the living room, setting the snacks down on the floor.
"Has anyone decided on what we wanna do?" Thomas asked, opening the bag of chips, passing them to Patton who was excitedly reaching for them.
Roman quickly held out something with a flourish, an excited look on his face. Everyone else leaned in closer to see what it was. "The Evil Within two? Is that some sort of film?" Logan asked, leaning back on the couch, straighting Patton's cat hoodie for him since he hated it when a person's clothes looked wrinkled and sloppy.
"No, it's a video game, a horror video game." Thomas replied before looking back over at Roman, processing out the idea. "I don't know...Joan played it and they said it was scary and freaky...so I don't know if you-"
Roman looked appalled, gasping at what Thomas had said. "How dare you say that, I'm not scared of anything! Well...a few things, but it's a silly old video game, it can't hurt me!" He said as he put the disc into the game console, picking up a remote control. "Well, there seems to be only one player at a time...so I'm guessing we can switch off?"
Virgil shrugged, picking out only the purple and black jelly beans, making a small pile of them by his feet, sorting out different colors to each person, handing all of the red ones to Roman since he disliked them a lot. Patton was curled up next to Logan, his eyes glued to the TV screen that was showing the opening credits to the game, meanwhile Logan was reading a book, glancing up from time to time to see what was going on before getting lost in his book again.
Thomas leaned back against the couch, hugging one of the throw pillows to his chest, beginning to feel worried about how this whole video game idea was going to go. He didn't deal with horror well, he could get through it, but would most definitely have nightmares or be jumpy afterwards.
Roman on the other hand was trying to learn how the controller worked, Patton and Virgil both trying to teach him which button did what, and how to do things in the game. "Fine, if you two are so good at it then by all means go first." He said in annoyance, shoving the controller into Virgil's hands. The anxious side looked over at the rest of the group for reassurance that it was alright for him to go first.
"Go for it, kiddo, be the player you are." Patton said encouragingly, giving Virgil a warm smile, the rest of the sides giving him a confused look.
"Patton, I don't think that's what you meant." Thomas said, Logan leaning over to whisper the definition of what Patton had said into his ear, Patton's face turning a bright red as he pulled his cat hoodie over his eyes, Logan gently patted the moral trait's head before turning back to his book, finding where he had left off.
After a few moments of confusion at what had just happened, along with a bit of apprehension, Virgil began trying to play the game, nodding along to Thomas and Patton's light coaching, which was making him a bit nervous. "I see blood on the floor." He said, pointing to the screen, which did in fact show blood splatters on the floor next to the character he was playing as.
"O-Oh gosh..." Patton said, biting his nails in a worried way, Logan reaching over to place his hand over Patton's so he would stop damaging his nails. "I don't like blood..."
"I understand, I don't exactly prefer seeing it either, but it's fake, Patton." Logan said, not looking up from his book, speaking quite softly to calm him down. None of the five could deal with blood very well, they could deal with small scratches or minor injuries, but anything more than that would cause someone to faint or begin panicking, even if it was fake blood.
"Shh, I'm trying to pay attention, a thing just moved." Virgil called over his shoulder, nudging Roman with his foot so he would pay attention. "Um...I might need you to take over in a sec...this is making me nervous."
Thomas nodded. "I can tell, I'm getting nervous too." He said, pulling his knees up into his chest, resting his head on them as he watched Roman playing the video game. He had just made the character crawl through a gate-like barrier only to lead them into a room that had bodies covered in white sheets hanging from the ceiling, only their bloody legs poking out from the cloth.
Everyone had completely different reactions to what they saw on the screen. Patton let out a loud and high pitched scream, covering his face with his hands, looking through the gaps in between his fingers. Logan seemed quite startled, his eyes wide in shock before turning to check on Patton, holding his shaking body. Virgil had hidden his face in Roman's shoulder, glancing back up for a second or two before hiding again, clinging into the creative side's bright red sash.
"There's...there's bodies! There's a lot of them!" Roman said, his voice much higher than it usually was, swallowing hard before turning to begin playing the game again. Thomas was very confused about his emotions since the facets of his personality were all freaking out in their own ways.
"Get the hell outta there." Virgil spoke anxiously, his nails digging into Roman's shirt so much it was hurting the prince. "Quickly, please."
Roman nodded, trying to get out of the room as quickly as possible, sitting up a bit, attempting to act as confident and brave as possible, like how a cat puffs itself up to look more intimidating towards a threat. He even had his teeth barred and growled slightly, extremely tense as he finally got out of the room, everyone relaxing at that, Thomas sighing heavily as each of the sides began to calm down.
Logan suddenly looked over his shoulder as if something was there, frowning a bit in thought which freaked Patton out. "Don't look behind you! Why are you looking behind you!?" He nearly shrieked, breathing heavily as Logan wrapped his arms around him awkwardly, pulling him onto his lap for the time being, picking up his book that had fallen to the floor in the moment of panic that had ensued.
Thomas was now playing the video game also, Virgil trying to help Roman calm down the best he could, the creative side getting annoyed in the beginning with a breathing exercise Virgil was coaxing him to do, finally giving in and slowly but surely calming down. "Hold on...wait, no you keep breathing, just give me a second." The anxious trait said, reaching over to scoop up the remaining jelly beans, which mosty included the ones he had set aside for himself. "Here, I...I know you like sweets and they make you feel better so..."
"Virgil, as much as you sound like a kidnapper right now...thank you." Roman said, smiling a little as he turned back to the TV, sharing the rest of the candy with Virgil, tensing up from time to time whenever they expected a jumpscare to happen.
"This seems eerie, Thomas, you're just standing there looking at your own picture-" Logan began before screaming as a woman's face popped up in a reflection in front of Thomas's character.
"Demon witch woman!" Roman shouted, Virgil wincing at the ringing in his ears thanks to the yelling that had been less than a few inches away. "Thomas, run damnit!"
"I know already!" Thomas called back, pressing any and every button on the controller, biting his lip anxiously as he began running from the monster chasing the character on the screen. The sides were all yelling encouragement, or more so screaming about not getting murdered. Thomas moved one of the joysticks on the controller, allowing him to look over the NPC's shoulder to see how far away the woman was, seeing her much too close.
Roman, Logan, and Patton were all shouting different things, Virgil had his arms over his head, trying to block out all of the sound going on around him, and Thomas began trying to get away from the monster, but it ended up catching him, pinning him onto the ground, the spinning saw blade on her arm cutting the NPC in half, blood going everywhere as the character thrashed around for a bit until going limp, more blood seeping out, making a large, dark red puddle on the ground as the screen faded to black.
"What in the hell was that?" Logan said as he held Patton who was still shaking violently, allowing him to chew on his nails a bit for the time being.
"I don't know, but what I do know is that we are never doing that again." Thomas sighed, running his fingers through his hair, reaching over to take the disc to the video game out, looking over his shoulder at the sides who were wide eyed and either curled up next to each other or trying to make themselves as small and guarded as possible, looking around as if something would jump out at any moment.
In all honesty, Virgil was the most camouflaged of the group, same with Thomas since he was wearing a gray hoodie, and it was night and it was dark in the house. If for some reason there was something that would potentially hurt them was in the house, those two would be safest. "Okay, y'know what? To wind down after...that, we're watching Lion King." Thomas said, holding up the Disney movie, the sides, even Virgil nodding in agreement to the decision.
"Also can we please turn some lights on? At least the ones you use for videos?" Patton asked quietly, holding onto Logan with a death grip on his shoulders, his shaking subsiding as Thomas got up to turn a few lights on. Roman had taken his sword out of its sheath, laying it on the carpet, his fingers loosely around the handle, that was until Virgil quickly snatched it, holding onto it tightly.
"Virgil! I need that to protect y-" Roman began before thinking for a moment. "I need it to protect each of you if need be!"
"Yeah no, sorry, Princey, if L or Patton stands up you're gonna stab them, I don't need anyone getting injured okay?" Virgil said, turning back to the TV as the movie began to start.
Logan nodded in agreement, fixing his tie which was now a bit crumpled up. "I for once agree with Virgil, if one of us makes one wrong move we'll be impaled by your sword, and we've seen enough blood to last us a lifetime." He said, frowning as he got lost in his thoughts for a moment. "Well maybe not a lifetime, but-"
Everyone jumped and screamed as the intro to Lion King began, Thomas grabbing the remote to turn the volume down hastily. "Sorry about that, is everyone okay?"
"Oh just fine, kiddo, totally not thinking about dying and getting cut in half by some monster hybrid woman." Patton said, whimpering a little as he finished his sentence.
Virgil smirked a little, letting his hood down as he leaned against Roman's shoulder. "This is why we don't bother with women..." he said quietly, but loud enough so the the others could hear, making them laugh much to his surprise.
"Hey now, not every woman is a crazy monster with a saw on her arm, but fair point." Logan said, cracking a small smile at the anxious side who smiled back for a second before turning back around, leaning against Roman again, getting comfortable as he used the prince's shoulder as a pillow. Roman glanced over at him, patting his head affectionately, continuing to watch the movie.
Patton leaned down to grab the bag of chips on the floor, orange dust from them getting on his fingers. He looked over at the TV before smiling, smearing the chip dust onto Logan's forehead. "Simba." He said, giggling innocently as he licked the rest of the chip remnants off of his fingers. Logan only rolled his eyes, rubbing his forehead with the back of his hand.
Thomas had wrapped himself up in a blanket burrito, humming along to the movie's soundtrack, trying to distract himself from the disturbing images he had watched earlier, trying to focus on the movie instead, he could tell the rest of the sides were doing the same thing as well, especially when one of them would shift suddenly or shake their heads as if they were shaking away the thoughts. "Hey guys? I'm sorry for us playing that game, it definitely freaked me out, and since you're all a part of me it must have done a number on you all also." He said, looking over at the sides, seeing them all look over also.
Roman shook his head. "No, Thomas...you know I'm not the greatest at apologizing...or admitting that I was...well, wrong, but this one was my fault, I should've listened to you when you said it was a horror game." He said, breathing in quickly in almost a gasping way. "Did I say that right? Was that a good apology?"
"It was great, kiddo! Also can we maybe stick to the Disney movies and not video games? Especially if they're scary." Patton spoke proudly, bopping his head along to the song that was being sung in the movie. Everyone else agreed, curling up together to watch the rest of Lion King, each of them nodding off one by one, Virgil being the first to fall asleep, but no one noticed until Roman did also, both of them limp against the couch, cuddled up together.
After the movie ended, Thomas and Logan being the only ones awake, looking at the other three who were fast asleep. "We'd better get some blankets." Thomas said, standing up to walk to the hallway closet, pulling down a few spare blankets and pillows he had for when his friends slept over. He and Logan had to Indiana Jones style move Virgil off of Roman and onto the makeshift bed they had made, setting Roman down nearby, trying to be as quiet and gentle as possible, getting Patton tucked in also on the couch, taking his glasses off for him.
"Alright, everything seems to be pretty okay...I think I'm gonna crash down here with you guys." Thomas said, shrugging his shoulders as he waved goodnight to Logan, curling up in a sleeping bag he had found, getting comfortable near the coffee table, answering one of Joan's texts before he went to sleep, deciding to tell them about the video game incident.
Meanwhile, Logan had cleaned up the snacks from earlier, making himself a cup of tea to help him wind down, glancing over as he saw something stir out of the corner of his eye. He walked over to the couch again, holding his mug of tea with one hand, his other helping him feel along to see where they were since Thomas had turned the lights off.
"L-Lo?" Patton called out quietly, looking up at the logical side from where he was laying. "Can you please turn on the lights? It's dark...I don't like the dark..."
Logan nodded, carefully stepping over Roman to reach the small nightlight that was kept in the hallway, deciding to keep the kitchen light on also. "Is that better, Patton? Do you need anything else?" He asked, sitting down on the couch near where Patton's feet were.
"C-Could you please stay with me until I fall asleep?" Patton asked, fidgeting a bit, a small smile forming on his face. "You make me feel safe."
"Alright, but just this once." Logan said, laying down next to Patton, putting both of their glasses on the coffee table, wrapping his arms around him, not surprised at all when Patton cuddled up close to him, nuzzling his face into his neck as he began to fall asleep again. Logan smiled a little, burying his face into Patton's soft hair, feeling surprisingly comfortable this way versus sleeping on the floor. On second thought, maybe Roman picking out a horror game had been a good idea after all.
