Smoking cigarettes on the roof

I stepped out of the old window, brushing off my skirt. How did she get up here so easily?

Vivian was sitting near the crumbling red-bricked chimney, the pungent smoke from her lit cigarette drifting with the Autumn breeze.

You look so pretty and I love this view

She had a look of awe and amazement in her eyes as she gazed up at the stars. I walked carefully across the roof to lay next to her.

I looked up to see the dazzling night sky, but it was nothing in comparison to the beauty that lay beside me.

We fell in love in October

That's why I love fall

Vivian's POV

The fall breeze wrapped around our heads, lifting Lola's long, wavy locks.

Looking at the stars

"Tell me about the stars" I said softly, not wanting to disturb the calm.

Her face seemed to light up as she spoke, eagerly, about the sky above us.

Admiring from afar

She seemed to have gone to her own far-away world that made her smile even more dazzling than that of the stars that hang above us.

My girl, my girl, my girl

You will be my girl

My girl, my girl, my girl

I felt happy that she was mine. My girl

You will be my world

My world, my world, my world

She is my entire world.

You will be my girl

She will always be my girl.

Lola's POV

Smoking cigarettes on the roof

She took another puff from her cigarette. They weren't good for her, but she was cutting back a bit.

You look so pretty and I love this view

I stopped speaking after I noticed that she wasn't paying attention to what I was saying, just looking at me.

We sat in silence for a few moments.

Don't bother looking down

We're not going that way

"What's gonna happen when my parents find out about us?" Vivian asked.

They weren't the best people.

"Let's not think about that. They probably won't find out anyway." I responded calmly.

"But what if they do?"

At least I know I am here to stay

"They can't keep us apart from each other. I will be with you forever."

"Forever?" She looked at me hopefully.

I nodded sharply, "Forever."

We fell in love in October

The next fall, I got a text from Viv, 'Meet me on the roof.' was all it said.

We only ever used the abandoned house's roof for urgent matters anymore, so I assumed the worst.

That's why I love fall

"They found out." Viv sobbed into my shoulder, "I'm sorry, but this is goodbye."

She wiped the tears from her eyes.

"But-"

She cut me off, "I have to go. We're leaving tomorrow."

I nodded as a single tear slid down my face.

She brushed her thumb against my cheek, wiping it away.

"I'm sorry." She whispered.

She then turned and climbed back off the roof, jumping down a few feet above the ground.

Looking at the stars

Admiring from afar

My girl, my girl, my girl

I sat on the roof every night during the autumn seasons. Years passed, but I still sat there.

Most of the time I was studying, but sometimes Patton found me and distracted me by talking about animals or asking for help with their math homework.

Other times I would just sit and gaze up at the stars.

You will be my girl

Roman and his enbyfriend, Janus, tried to get me to find someone new, but I made a promise to my girlfriend and I'm not going to break it.

My girl, my girl, my girl

The years passed slowly without her, but soon enough I had graduated collage with a degree in (Insert something here). But instead of becoming a/an (insert person here), I started working at my mother's coffeeshop/bookstore. It paid well enough and I could read the books when on break.

I was able to buy the old, abandoned house with our roof, so I could sit on it almost every night and gaze at the stars.

I wondered if they were the same stars that Vivian was looking at right now.

You will be my girl

More years passed and I soon became the owner of the shop.

It took my mind off of Vivian, and it gave me time to look into more books for the bookstore.

My girl, my girl, my girl

"Hello miss. I was wondering if you would like to join me in gazing up at the stars?"

I dropped the book I was holding and it fell to the floor with a bang.

"Vi-vivian?" I asked, taking off my glasses, wiping them on my apron and placing them carefully back on to see that it really was her.

"Hi Lola."

You will be my girl

Vivian was back.

Vivian Anxiety Storm was standing right in front of me. She hadn't changed much, she still wore that oversized purple-plaid jacket over a black band shirt, but now her hair was cut short and the ends were dyed a deep purple. She also had some eyeshadow beneath her violet eyes.

"Viv," I wrapped my arms around her "I missed you." I whispered.

"I missed you too."

My girl, my girl, my girl

We climbed onto the roof to look at the stars that night, but I couldn't take my eyes off of Lola as she told me stories about the night sky.

It had been over 12 years since we'd done this.

I had missed the late nights we spent together, when we were just teenagers.

You will be my world

"I love you." I blurted.

Lola didn't hesitate to respond, "I've loved you longer."

"But I love you most."

"That is completely incorrect. You see, the more love you give, the more you receive, and that means that you are able to give even more, creating and unbreakable loop, so our love for each other is equal and infanant."

"I still love you more"

Lola shook her head, and gazed right back up at the stars.

My world, my world, my world

"Lola, do you think we should get married?"

"Of course, we've waited for twelve years to see each other again, why not stay together for the rest of our lives."

You will be my girl

"Do you, Lola Logan Berry, take Vivian Anxiety storm as your lawfully wedded wife?"

"I do."

"And do you, Vivian Anxiety Storm, take Lola Logan Berry as your lawfully wedded wife?"

"I do."

"Then I pronounce you wife and wife. You may now makeout and shove cake into each other's faces." Janus said.

Roman and Patton laughed from wherever they were in the audience while I brought Lola into a long, sweet kiss.

We could now fulfill the promise we made 13 years ago.

We would stay together forever, and gaze up at the stars, drifting away from the world like cigarette smoke on the wind.

Song of the day: Meteor Shower (Cavetown)

This song helps whenever I feel disconnected from the world and other people. It helps me realize that there is nothing I can do to stop this feeling and it happens sometimes.
