Part Two of 'New King'

A/N: I didn't get much time to research the gallows and had to base it off of a few years ago, what I read, which is a faint memory. So if anything is incorrect, you don't need to point it out, I am aware there probably will be. Just pretend it does make sense. And make sure you read Part 1 first (the before one shot, titled New King, because I had no ideas lol)

Patton screamed as he was dragged out, struggling to be freed. 'This isn't how I want to die!' his eyes were locked with King Roman's emotionless face. He was being hung for a simple stealing? It wasn't fair. He had a family! He couldn't be killed, not yet!

"Please, no!" Patton cried out just as the doors to the throne room was shut. He continued to fit the guard that held him hostage. "My family, you can't! I'll do anything!" He frantically pleaded, searching for an ounce of remorse in the guard. There was nothing. A blank face like so many others, doing the bidding of their ruler. As if they were all puppets.

Patton jerked his arm up, pulling the guards arm closer, and bit harshly. The guard yelped and let go out of shock, giving Patton the chance to run. He swerved, turning at a corner, hearing feet pounding close behind him. He knew he wasn't really fast, but he had to hope he could get free! An upcoming window was approaching at the end of the corridor, Patton ignoring all the doors. 'I can leap out of thi-' he own thoughts were cut off as two hands seized him. Patton thrashed and let out a whimper, reaching for the window.
But it was no use. He had been caught.

Patton was dragged to the dungeons, the place dark, silent, and empty. He winced as the grip on his arms grew tighter, bruises planning to appear. The guard threw the commoner in a cell, not caring as Patton fell to the ground, arms covering his face as he skidded across the stone floor. Locking the door, the guard met Patton's tearful eyes and gave a slow shake of his head. This was all Patton's fault, he was soundlessly blaming.

But truly, it was King Roman's. The King could of had mercy, but chose to sentence him to death for a minor crime. The thought of his King hardened Patton's heart as he sat up and watched the guard leave. 'He will never be a true King'.

The commoner looked around his cell. There were no signs of any rats, luckily. Dust and dirt coated the stone and Patton dusted himself off. Fear sparked through him as he saw webs hanging all around him, a few spiders dancing here and there. This was absolute torture to him, leaving him alone with spiders of all things!

To his surprise, his face had grown wet and the stone he stood on had become darker. Bringing a hand up to his face, he felt tears pouring. 'I'm crying,' he realized, succeeding in crying harder. He was scared, he couldn't deny it. He wasn't ready to die..

'What will happen to Virgil, to Logan? My family... They think I'm running errands.' The thought of his family only made more tears fall, trailing down his neck and arms as he furiously tried to stop. His shirt was growing soaked, him having had ducked his head and pulled up his knees, wrapping his arms around them. He rocked forward and back, so many feelings and thoughts coursing through him. 'Would they be alright? What will they do for money and food? Are they safe? Will King Roman hang him in public? Will his family be there to see?'

He cried and he cried, unable to see. "Please! Don't do this!" He screamed once more, as loud as his vocals let him go, hoping to be heard. His breathing had grown ragged and sharp, inhaling only dust and thin air. His mind grew clouded and he shut his eyes, letting himself go unconscious to rest.

Pulled awake, Patton grumbled and tugged away. His eyes opened slightly and memories of the previous day passed through his mind. He quickly sat up in terror, looking at a guard who was waiting beside him with crossed arms. "Wait- C-can we talk about this?" Patton asked, an innocent tone entering his voice.

The guard glowered and his raspy voice bounded through the dungeon. "I was given my orders. Come on." Patton scrambled away, his dirty hair falling in his face and dirt covering his face in stains from when it was still wet. The guard let out an exasperated sigh and moved towards the prisoner, reaching out and snatching Patton's arms firmly, securing them with ropes and pushing him forward.

Patton was led to the courtyard, passing the gardens and benches and fountains, passing the people who watched is worry and curiosity. He looked around, glad there was no sign of his family. But a part of him had been hoping for one last sight of them, to see those he loved before his death. It seemed he wouldn't be given that, sparing him the sight of his family's sadness.

They stopped at the gallows, a wooden platform with a lever that would be pulled after Patton had been hung, creating a hole in the wood below him and killing him. He had heard stories where it hadn't been done correctly, causing the ones who were hanging to suffer. Patton only hoped that he wouldn't have to suffer, as a small piece of mercy.

Out of Patton's eyesight, he saw the King seated and watching. Swiveling his head in the direction, he caught the King's eyes and glared, inwardly surprised to see a trace of sadness and reluctance featured there. Patton and his guard approached the gallows

"Wait, no, stop!" A voice shouted from the forming crowd and Patton stiffened and terror. He recognized that voice far too well.

Turning to the crowd, two men rushed forward, shoving through the other commoners. One looking similar to Patton and the other, astonishingly emo so to say. 'Virgil, Logan, no,' Patton thought sadly. There was nothing they could do.

With the King watching the scene and the guards waiting, Patton gave a soft smile to his 'friends'. "H-hey guys, I'm sorry for this. You should- should probably leave..." Patton winced, a guard tugging his ropes as if to say 'hurry up'. Tears were filling Virgil's and Logan's eyes, the latter blinking madly to try and hide them and the former letting them flow down his face.

"No! You don't deserve this! " Virgil yelled, reaching to Patton and clasping his tied hands. He turned and glared at King Roman. "Why are you doing this?! Stop it, now!"

"I am afraid that I cannot. He must be punished for his crimes of theft." At this news, Logan narrowed his eyes and looked up at Patton, searching for a sign of falsehood in the others face. Patton shook his head. They needed to understand and accept that this was fate.

Suddenly, Patton was yanked away and towards his death sentence, bringing cries from the two behind, who were now being held back. Positioned to stand in the middle of the deck, a rope was tied around his neck.

With pleading eyes, Patton gave one last shot and looked at the King. The King stared back, nothing written on his face. "Please," he whispered, knowing it couldn't be heard but being heard was behind the point.

Virgil and Logan fought the grips off and ran forward, onto the deck. 'Don't let them be hurt,' Patton prayed, closing his eyes. "Goodbye." He whispered and it was clear Virgil and Logan had heard, as their eyes widened. All Patton felt was a distant scream that echoed and a a moment of pain in his body as he went limp and everything went dark.

'Too late'

A/N: So, when you guys asked for a part two...did you expect it to be happy and Patton to live? I actually am curious on what you were expecting.

Sorry about how horrible the end is. I wasn't quite sure on how to write it, since I had never wrote death before, not like this. Obviously, I have no experience in the process. Again, sorry for anything incorrect with his hanging and such!

I..this did not go as it was planned, Part 1 included. What was the plan? Virgil was going to be the thief and Roman was going to flirt with him since he was so bored. Virgil was going to be 'punished' by working at the palace and him constantly trying to escape only to be caught each time by a waiting and smug Roman- Until Roman was assassinated. one night and Virgil finally escaped, him now the smug one- but hey, this happened instead and I don't really have any regrets!
