Tangled Lights (Prince x Anxiety)
Requested. This is part 190 holy shit I'm gonna need a new book soon-
Roman normally would have loved decorating for Christmas. Getting the entire mind to look festive, getting into the mood for Christmas, and singing Christmas songs as loud as he could(an annoyance to Logan and Virgil, although Patton would often happily join in), those were his favorite things to do! Usually he couldn't wait to finally decorate for Christmas, but today he found himself dreading it.
It had nothing to do with not being excited for Christmas, of course. Roman loved the holidays! The only reason he was feeling so nervous about leaving his room to decorate was that another specific side would be there, as they were all going to help decorating the tree. This specific side was Virgil.
Roman and Virgil had been getting along amazingly recently. They still fought plenty, but it was never serious anymore. In fact, Roman had noticed, the fighting had become more flirting than anything, at least on his end. It had only struck him the night before that he had even been doing it, barely noticing the feelings for his fellow side that seemed to creep up on him out of nowhere.
It was because of his realization that he was feeling apprehensive about seeing the other, fearing that his nerves may get the best of him and he may say or do something stupid. The two had taken so long to get to where they were, simply being friends. Roman really didn't want to ruin all of that with him now, simply because of a crush.
For most of the day filled with decorating, he did manage to avoid him. Not entirely, and Roman felt that the few interactions they did have that day were painfully awkward. He couldn't stop his cheeks from burning a bright red, heart picking up speed in his chest, and he barely managed to get out a clever retort to Virgil's teasing without stuttering. He was positive that Virgil had noticed his awkwardness as well, only making his embarrassment worse.
Eventually they had to decorate the Christmas tree, something that the four of them always did together. That meant he would no longer be able to avoid Virgil by working on decorating something in a different area of the mind, because they would have to be together. He tried to tell himself that it would be fine, that he just had to act normal and he could keep this up. It didn't really help.
Roman helped Logan first to get the fake Christmas tree out of its box, helping to put the pieces of it together. Patton and Virgil stood behind them, waiting for them to finish that so that they could help to sort out the branches of it and then start putting ornaments on. Roman glanced over at the two after he heard Patton laugh softly, whispering something to Virgil who's face turned a dark red. He seemed to have been watching Roman, but he turned away quickly when Roman looked back at them. He wondered briefly what they were talking about, but distracted himself quickly with getting the tree up. He needed to stop focusing so much on Virgil, or he was going to be way too obvious.
Soon enough the tree was put together, and Logan decided to plug in the lights on the tree to be sure they were still working. When he plugged them in they seemed to work for a moment, before most of them flickered and turned off.
"Do we have anymore lights?" Patton asked, frowning and looking over at Logan and Roman.
"I think I know where some are. I'll be right back." Roman said, starting off to go and get them. As he started walking off Patton nudged Virgil, who sent him an annoyed look before he quickly followed after him.
"I'll come help," he offered, and Roman really didn't have any reason he could say no. He tried to tell himself again that he would be fine, that they were just going to look for some working Christmas lights and then they'd be right back to helping Logan and Patton with the rest of the ornaments for the tree.
"What made you decide to be a good person and help me today?" Roman asked jokingly, sending Virgil a small smile. He caught the flush on Virgil's cheeks as he rolled his eyes, once again wondering why he was blushing.
"I dunno, but I think you're already starting to make me regret it." He retorted, and Roman just laughed in response. They got to the room Roman thought he had last seen the Christmas lights in quickly, Roman opening the door and gesturing for Virgil to enter first. He was just being nice, and definitely not just trying to stare at him without being noticed.
"Where are these lights at?" Virgil asked as he turned back to look at Roman, who quickly looked back up to meet his eyes. He didn't respond, going to the box with lights instead to start pulling them out.
They were a lot more tangled up than he had expected, and there was more than one string of lights mixed together. He couldn't find the end of any of them. "We probably shouldn't have put so many of these in the same box..."
"You think?" Virgil muttered sarcastically, going over to help him in untangling them. The managed to get some of it untangled, but then one of them would tug on the wrong cord and it would become even worse.
Eventually while trying to get the lights untangled they managed to get themselves tangled into it, and ended up pressed close together, the tangled Christmas lights the only thing in between the two of them. When Roman looked up and saw how close he was to Virgil he froze, breath catching in his throat as his cheeks burned. Virgil hadn't seemed to notice yet, eyebrows furrowed as he concentrated on the lights.
He looked adorable, Roman thought, mind unable to fully process everything he was feeling in that instance. He was nervous, worried about being this close to Virgil. He was completely head over heels for him, and he wanted nothing more than to lean forward and kiss him in that moment. He barely realized how long he was staring until Virgil caught his eyes, frowning over at him.
"Are you okay, dude?" He asked, his face also flushing a deep red as he realized how close they were standing together.
Roman opened and closed his mouth for a few moments, shrugging to force any words from his lips. He drew in a sharp breath, wishing he could step away but the lights had wrapped tightly around the both of them. "I-I... I'm fine."
"Are you sure?" Virgil questioned him. The only reason he wasn't panicking over being trapped was because he could tell something was wrong with Roman, so he focused on helping him to avoid his own anxiety. He was also worried.
"Y-yeah, really, it's just-" he glanced away for a moment, and when he looked back his gaze trailed down to Virgil's lips briefly. He immediately looked back up to Virgil's eyes, his own eyes wide and frightened, hoping he hadn't noticed. When he saw Virgil's cheeks go as red as his own, and caught the nervous look that Virgil gave he knew he had been caught. "I'm sorry! I don't want to make this situation anymore awkward."
"It-it's fine," Virgil shook his head quickly, closing his eyes for a moment and breathed in deeply. When he opened his eyes again he looked up at Roman, hesitantly moving one of his hands to cover Roman's, still on the tangled up lights. He leaned forward the slightest bit, repeating himself. "It's fine."
Roman understood what he meant, although he was still a little unsure and nervous. He relaxed a little bit, leaning a little closer himself. "Y-you're sure...?"
Virgil didn't respond for a moment, moving his arms around Roman's neck as he shifted even closer. He nodded slowly, still seeming nervous and Roman definitely couldn't blame him as he felt the same way.
Roman leaned in the rest of the way finally, pressing his lips to Virgil's softly. He let out a soft sigh through his nose as he shuffled closer, Virgil kissing him back. They both pulled apart after a while, feeling out of breath and speechless. Only a moment later Roman was grinning widely, pulling Virgil back into another, even longer kiss that was much different from the first. The both of them stayed that way for a while, pulling each other back in for kisses, forgetting the Christmas lights and the fact that they had to be back to finish decorating with Logan and Patton soon.
"I really like you, Virgil." Roman said after a while, blush returning to his face as he admitted the feelings aloud for the first time. Virgil stared at him for a moment, raising an eyebrow and laughing at him.
"I mean, I would hope that you did after all of that." He teased, Roman laughing at himself with him. "I'm glad to hear that, though. I... like you a lot too."
"So you'll be my boyfriend?" Roman asked, smiling over at him widely. He was sure he had never felt this happy in his entire life.
"Yeah," Virgil agreed, kissing him briefly again before hiding his blushing face in his chest. "Obviously."
Both of them smiled to themselves, standing silently in the room together for a few minutes longer. Roman pressed a kiss to the top of Virgil's head, laughing a little.
"I think we should probably get Patton and Logan to help untangle us."
Ahhh I hope this was alright!! I'm not really sure how I feel about the ending but honestly I always worry when I do requests that I didn't do them well enough, so I just hope that you like it.
Okay so earlier today I went out with my family right, and we went to this one place with a bunch of little stores inside and stuff it was pretty nice, but anyways we walk in there and there's these two girls standing by the entrance. As I'm walking past them with my family one of them points at me very suddenly, looking at my shirt and goes "look, it's Logan!" Because I was wearing that shirt today and that was really funny lmao I've never actually seen another Thomas Sanders fan in real life lol.
I had a nice time hanging out with my family today, but honestly when I got home the day kinda fell apart. I'm so tired of living in my aunts house, everything's so loud and they're always arguing and I hate it it makes me so anxious. So I've basically just hid in my family's room and blared music through my headphones so that no one would talk to me. It didn't really work cause my sister doesn't care whether I have headphones in or not. I wish there was a way to tell people to leave me alone without seeming rude-I don't wanna be mean to anyone, I just really really need some alone time. Sharing a room and being around so many people constantly has been super draining, and I've had a couple anxiety attacks the last two days which has sucked.
But anyways. That's why I'm planning to get more oneshots done tonight. If I'm working on writing then I can use that as an excuse to not be bothered, and even tho I really just wanna lay in bed and do nothing it's really better for me to be productive anyways. I've got three more Christmas requests (I think) and Christmas is coming up fast, so I should be working on that now.
Anyways, I'm gonna stop talking here and get some more stuff written up hopefully. Thanks for reading. *you find a ring pop on your plate at Christmas dinner* thanks Paradox-Puzzler for the ring pop suggestion! Take care of yourselves. Love all of you guys. Bye!-Bob
