A Mess (No Ship)

Requested. Warnings for mentions of breakups, I suppose

It had been a week. A long, horrible week filled with sadness and heartbreak, wanting nothing more than to go back to the way things used to be. They were all taking it horribly, all of Thomas' sides.

Virgil had been working overtime, and when he could actually be found not working he was mumbling to himself about how he "should have know," despite the fact that none of them could have done anything. Logan wasn't thinking straight, he couldn't get anything done. He felt frustrated, emotions that he didn't understand eating at him and preventing him from being efficient. Patton was taking it worse than both of them, being at the core of most of Thomas' feelings. One moment he seemed to be doing alright again, and the next he was crying his eyes out, shouting about how much he wished that "he would just come back!" Aside from his emotions being even more unmanageable than usual, he seemed to be getting sick as well

None of them were taking it nearly as bad as Roman was. Being Thomas' romantic side it was to be expected, but he looked worse than they ever could have imagined. Roman, the side who was always making sure his appearance was perfect in every way, looked as though he hadn't brushed his hair or even showered in day. He was a mess, but his appearance wasn't the worst of it.

When the others did see him leave his bedroom he was always in a daze. He didn't appear as though he were taking in anything, lost in his own mind. Once, when he was walking back to his bedroom after barely touching his food, Virgil saw him walk right into the wall before snapping out of his daze. It was only a moment before he fell right back into it, though, and he continued to drag himself back to his room.

The most worrying thing, however, was when he decided to stop leaving him room entirely. No one had heard from him for the last few days, and every single one of them was worried. What could he be doing in his room that took up so much time he couldn't even leave to eat? Eventually, the other sides had had enough of waiting and decided to go and check on their friend. (That's FINE Wattpad, just go ahead and delete a bunch of shit I just wrote, I appreciate it. I'm gonna cry-)

"Roman?" Patton called softly through the door as he knocked, frown on his face. "Are you okay? Can we come in?"

They waited. No answer.

"Princey, open up." Virgil banged on the door. They waited again, and there was still so response.

"Perhaps we should just go inside anyways?" Logan suggested, frowning and adjusting his glasses. A nervous habit. Virgil and Patton nodded in agreement.

"Roman, sweetie, we're coming in. We want to be sure you're alright." Patton spoke as he turned the handle on the door, slowly pushing it open. The three of them stepped inside, not at all expecting what they found.

One thing they noticed was that the usually pristine room was just as much of a mess as Roman looked. Papers littered the floor and his desk, mostly of them crumpled up into balls by his trash can. Little things were scattered everywhere, things he most likely used to distract himself from his thoughts; which the others understood well. They had tried to do the same, to no avail.

The other thing they saw was Roman, curled into a ball and tucked away in the corner, laying on the cold floor. Tear tracks stained his cheek, and even more fresh tears could be seen ready to fall from his eyes. Above him, a fake Thomas, created by the room and Roman's emotions, screamed insults, telling Roman things that weren't true in the slightest. He told Roman that he had failed him, that it was his fault.

The most heartbreaking thing they had seen in the room so far was how Roman was just taking the insults screamed at him. He wasn't fighting back, he wasn't arguing, wasn't trying to make the fake Thomas go away, he just listened. It was as though he believed everything that he was saying, even though everyone else in the room knew that none of it was true.

Virgil was the first to rush forward, somehow making the fake Thomas disappear into thin air. He made his way over to Roman quickly, followed by Patton and Logan, helping him to sit up and speaking to him softly. "Roman, Roman, hey... you're okay, we're here."

"What's wrong, Roman? Are you okay?" Patton worried, sitting next to Roman.

"Please talk to us, Roman. We are very concerned about you." Logan added in, standing behind Virgil and Patton and looking down at Roman as well. Roman didn't say anything for a while, not moving or really acknowledging their presence. Tears still fell down his cheeks, and the others shared a worried glance.

"It's... my fault..." Roman spoke at last, voice breaking. "I... I should have been more loving. I should have shown him how much I care..."

"Oh, Roman..." Patton frowned, tears of his own welling up in his eyes. "It isn't your fault at all, I promise.."

"None of us could have stopped what happened... it wasn't any of our faults." Virgil told Roman, beginning to realize that he should listen to that himself. He kept thinking about how he should have know, but really, how could he have?

"It is my fault though... I know Thomas blames me for it, too..." Roman sniffled, wiping at his eyes.

"That's definitely not true! Not a single one of us blames you, Roman. We don't blame anyone." Patton assured him, brows furrowed. "Sometimes, people just don't work out. It's not anyone's fault. That's just how it is sometimes."

"If any of us blamed you would we come to check on you? Would we have been this worried when you didn't leave your room?" Logan reasoned, not good at providing comfort but wanting to make his friend feel better anyways. "No. We came here because we care about you, Roman. We would like to help you in any way that we can."

The room was silent for a while, Roman staring down at the ground in thought. He sighed after a while, looking back up at his friends who he knew were worried and offering the tiniest of smiles. "Thank you, guys... I'm sorry I caused you all to worry."

"It's alright, Roman! We just want to see you happy again." Patton told him, smiling back.

"Yeah," Virgil agreed, grinning as well. "Cause if you feel like shit then we all do." They all gave short laughs as Patton scolded Virgil for his language, all suddenly being pulled into a hug by Roman. Virgil complained, but he secretly didn't mind it at all.

"We should probably get out of here soon." Logan mentioned. "We have already been in here long enough for it to begin affecting us."

Logan noticed each of their faces fall at knowing they had to leave, so he made another suggestion. "We could... watch some movies together, perhaps? Each of our favorites. I believe watching something that would cheer us up is a good idea right now."

At that suggestion everyone seemed to brighten up, so Logan was sure he had succeeded in doing something good. The four of them made their way out to the couch where Logan volunteered to be the one to turn on the first movie, noticing the others exhaustion. He was tired too, probably even more drained than they were. The day has been a very emotional one, and he was the worst at handling things such as these but he wanted to help in any way he could.

While he did that Patton found them all a big blanket, one that they could all sit under while they watched. Soon, all four of them were sitting together on the couch, the beginning of one of Roman's favorites playing.

They all had small smiles on their faces, even as they drifted off with the movie still playing, and for the first time in a little while they all felt at peace. Sure, things weren't perfect, and they still may not be for a while. They didn't know for sure what lay ahead, but one thing that they did know was that they had their family.

I am so so so so so so so so sorry that this took me so long!!!! I really didn't mean for it to take me so long, but I hope that it was everything that you wanted.

It's amazing how quickly I can go from "the world is wonderful and I'm happy to be alive" to "I'm worthless and don't even deserve to exist"

God, honestly all I wanna do is cry till I'm asleep but I don't feel like I've done enough today. It's really dumb, I'm aware, but honestly some days I don't feel like I deserve to sleep unless I get a certain amount of stuff done. So.... uh.... maybe a new oneshot out tonight, or a new chapter in one of my other books. I do need to keep up with those.

I am not stressed out yet to. Over that at least. So, yay? That's good isn't it? Hopefully I can keep up with updating them all often and I don't fall behind and make myself feel like shit over it. I think I'll be okay tho.

Anyways, I need to work so that I can get some sleep so. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed this. *Patton gives you a ring pop from his cat hoodie pouch that's filled to the brim with ring pops*

Please give me more ring pop suggestions if you've got any ideas. Take care of yourselves, love you guys. Bye-Bob
