Christmas

Hello! I know it's not December. I was inspired though. Sorry to everyone who doesn't celebrate Christmas. I know Thomas does though.

Virgil hesitantly dragged himself downstairs. When he reached the bottom he groaned. It was Christmas Eve. He had forgotten. Figuring it was going to be like every other Christmas he went to the kitchen to grab enough food to get him through the next few days. He never interacted with the others around Christmas. They didn't want him to so he didn't. No matter how much he wanted to. When he walked into the kitchen his eyes widened. Patton was in there making cookies.

"Hey Kiddo! Are you excited for tomorrow?"

"No. Why would I be?"

"Because it's Christmas!"

"So?"

Roman had overheard the conversation and joined in. "So?!? Christmas is the best time of year!"

"Maybe for you." Virgil's voice was dejected. Why were they rubbing it in? He knows he has never celebrated it before. They know it too. Why are they reminding him?

"Of course it is! All the gifts and family and goodness and happiness and I'm running out of things to say." Patton paused, putting the cookies in the oven.

"Whatever. I just came to get some food. Then I'll leave you to your 'fabulous and amazing' Christmas. No need to worry about me ruining anything. I'll leave you alone." Virgil's hands were shaking so he shoved them into his pockets, holding back unwanted tears.

"You don't want to celebrate with us?" Patton was confused. Why didn't Virgil want to celebrate with them?

"W-what? I- what? You never want me to celebrate with you." Virgil's voice sounded hopeful but the hope was quickly crushed when he remembered it was all probably just a trick to make fun of him.

Logan smelling the cookies, came in at that point. "When have we not allowed you to celebrate this holiday with us Virgil?"

"You guys never want me around... Roman yells at me anytime I showed up. You all become cold as soon as I show up. If I say anything I get glared at. Especially around holidays. You always act like you didn't want me around so I try not to be." Virgil was was anticipating the moment they remembered and kicked him out again. He wanted to celebrate with them. He really did. But if they didn't want him too... he would go. He didn't want to hurt the ones he... loved. He loved them but he knew they could never love him. The people he considered family would only ever hate him. He knew it. After all... why would anyone ever love him? He was a mistake. A disease. Logan said it so it must be true. Right? After all Logan only said the facts.

"Oh Kiddo! Do you really feel that we don't want you around?"

Virgil flinched before slowly nodding. The fatherly trait gasped. Virgil pulled up his hood and looked at the ground. He hurt the only one who was nice to him. He always messed everything up. He was a mistake. A monster!

Suddenly he felt a pair of arms wrap around him. He glanced up and saw Patton. Patton was hugging him! Soon two more pairs of arms joined Patton's.

"Virgil... I'm sorry I made you feel this way. I... I didn't know! I'm sorry!" Roman was very apologetic. He never meant to make Virgil feel unwanted. Though... this explains where he was all of those holidays and why he never celebrates anything.

"I feel... huh feel... that I have contributed to this. I am sorry Virgil. Please know that we want you here to celebrate and be with us."

Virgil blinked. "You do? This isn't a trick or anything?"

"Of course not! I would be very grateful if you would join us in our festivities!"

"Yeah Kiddo! Come celebrate with us tomorrow!"

"Please join us if you are comfortable doing so."

"Thank you! Thank you so much! Though I wasn't prepared and I don't know how this works so... you might have to show me." Virgil wrapped them in a hug, feeling younger than he ever had before.

They cared for him. He was wanted. He was welcome.

He was loved.

Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed!
