Hogwarts first chapter draft ~ No Ship

Here is a draft of the first chapter of the new Sanders Sides Hogwarts story that I've decided to write. I love to hear feed back!

It's the harsh looks from dorm mates and the quiet comments he overhears that makes Logan begin to question his placement. Always being one to analyze his surroundings he begins taking notes when he notices the common occurrence of fellow Ravenclaws talking about him. He's heard many things being said about him; rude, cold, stuck up, doesn't belong. He doesn't let it get to him, emotions aren't important to the logical 5th year. He hears the comments in the halls as well; look it's that emotionless freak, can he really be Patton's brother, did you hear he wants to be the minister of magic, no way he'd be a dictator. So the students didn't like him, it's not like he minded. He quietly observed what people said, he wrote it down and thought about it. Until the things he was writing down weren't just about him anymore. Patton really needs to stop hanging out with Slytherins he's going to ruin our good house image. If Roman keeps singing in the dorm someones gonna cut him. Does Virgil even fit with the Hufflepuffs, he's way too rude. The Sanders are the worst. Get out of our school!

He slammed his notebook of insults shut, startling his housemates who glared at him for doing so. Can't he do anything that won't disturb us? That freak, whats got him so worked up? Logan heard their whispers as he got up and stormed out of his dorm, he didn't look back at the sneering faces when he left the tower all together in search of his brothers. He rushed to the Gryffindor tower first, it is the closest, after all. Logan looked the fat lady in the eye before saying the password, "Snidget." She only sighed, resigned to letting the Ravenclaw come in even if he wasn't supposed to, its common for one or more of the Sanders brothers to come barging in and after the incident when Virgil had hexed her to be mute till she let them in she had just stopped refusing. Logan stepped into the Gryffindor tower and was immediately greeted with groans of partying students. He ignored the stares of first years wondering why a Ravenclaw was walking up the stairs to the boy's dormitories, (is that a Ravenclaw? What is he doing here?) in favor of following the sound of Roman's singing. Doesn't he ever shut up? We don't want to hear your Disney! Logan walked himself into his brother's room and lay on the bed to wait his return from the shower. He didn't wait long, the singing stopped and the sound of the water turned off and soon the redhead burst out of the bathroom in just his towel wrapped around his waist. Roman gave an unmanly shriek at the sight of someone on his bed but he'll deny it to his last breath. Logan saw the recognition in his eyes as he realized it was only his brother laying on his bed.

"Logan?! Gosh, peck! Owl me before you just show up! You know I don't like surprises. I could have hexed you or even hit you." Roman warned before moving to his trunk so he could grab a change of clothes. Logan stared at the ceiling while his brother got dressed.

"Do you think Patton and Virgil are in their common room or the kitchen?" Logan pondered out loud. There was a moment of silence where Logan guessed his brother was thinking about the question.

"The kitchen. You know those two can't be in their dorm for long before getting overwhelmed." Roman said. An uncomfortable silence followed as both brothers thought of the other two. Constantly either of them would find their Hufflepuff brothers upset after something a house mate had said. Their weak, stupid Patton, even fellow Hufflepuffs can't stand Virgil, the two don't belong. It hurt the stronger boys to find Patton sobbing into a cookie, provided by the house elves Patton had managed to befriend, or hearing Virgil's frantic breathing during an anxiety attack caused by bullying. Logan sighed and sat up to look at his brother. Silent communication through eye contact was enough to get up and go in search of the Hufflepuffs together. They reached the fruit painting that hid the kitchen from the students, not very well as everyone seems to know where it is, and together they entered and got bombarded by elves.

"Masters Sanders', You're brothers are in here as well. A pleassure to have the four of you in attendance." One house elf, who stood out from the others, bowed to the entering students as he spoke. This paticular house elf was freed by a generous Patton in his first year who thought he could do without his scarf but had remained in the kitchen so she could remain close to the young Hufflepuff, quickly becoming friends with the other three Sanders. Winsy smiled at the two, grabbing their sleeves to lead them through the kitchens to where Patton and Virgil sat in the far corner eating cookies, a common sight. Patton grinned brightly at the three when they walked sat down around the table with them. "Master Patton, your brothers have come to visit our humble kitchen! Now pardon while I get more cookies for them." Winsy left the four despite Logan and Roman's protest saying they didn't need cookies.

"What brings you to down here from your towers?" Virgil said quietly, taking another bite of his cookie. Logan observed him carefully noticing the way his sweat sleeves were pulled over his fingers, a nervous habit, and the puffy red around his eyes.

"We were looking for you two. Good thing as well, you have been crying." Logan states and Virgil looks at him in shook.

"What? No I hav-" Virgil begins to protest, holding his sweater paws closer, before Logan interupts.

"Yes you have. It's clear by the red surrounding your eyes. A sign of obsessive rubbing, presumibly to wipe away tears. There is also the lack of eye shadow under your eyes, meaning you either left your dorm in such a hurry that you didn't have a chance to apply the make up, or you had to get rid of your ruined foundation. Now care to tell us what happened?"

Virgil looked uncomfortable at the observations and hundled in himself. He whipped his eye to stop himself from crying again before he retold what happened.

"Hey, Sanders number four- Virgil! Wait up."

"What do you want?"

"No need to be so hostile. Listen you're better with plants then I am. Everyone knows herbology is your best class. I need you to write my essay on Devil's Snare for tomorrow's lesson."

"What? No, I'm not doing your homework for you."

"No really, I'm too busy to do it tonight. I've got a date and I don't want to cancel on her again."

"Then maybe you should have done your essay a week ago when it was assigned."

"Why are you so infuriating! I'm asking you for a favor, one Hufflepuff to another. You have to understand that she's important to me so I can't miss this with her."

"I don't understand the need to throw your grades away for a girl. I'm not writing your essay okay?"

"Of course you don't understand. No girl can stand to be within a five-foot perimeter around you. You are so repealing to others. Have you ever had a girlfriend? Or even a date? Okay, wait, if you do the essay for me I'm sure Hannah, my girlfriend, can get a good word for you among her friend group. You help me with the essay I help you get a girlfriend."

"I don't want a girlfriend. I'm not doing your essay and I'd rather you left me alone now. Got it?"

"You don't want a girlfriend? Why not? Everyone wants romantic compa- no. Really? Are- are you into blokes Sanders?"

"Leave me alone."

"You are! Oh, I would never have thought. What about your brothers? Do they know? Are they into blokes as well?"

"Piss off. I'm done with this conversation. See ya."

-------

Logan and Roman listened to the increasingly uncomfortable conversation Virgil had with the Hufflepuff. Roman was glowering with a need to find the Hufflepuff and calmly talk to him about the risk of outing people. Logan, while unfazed by people approaching him with homework to be done, understood his brother's reaction.

"So, now I could be outed and everyone is going to hate me even more and the school isn't going to do anything about it. Also, that guy is probably telling his friends how awful I am for not helping him get to his girlfriend and they will all think I hate to love or something and I'm an awful Hufflepuff. Awful Hufflepuff that won't help housemates and doesn't like love." Virgil huffed, tears beginning to spill once more. Patton held out another cookie which Virgil excepted with a thankful nod. He distracted himself by nibbling at the chocolate chips at the edges. Logan begun to think of his journal, the insults to all of them. Virgil's worries aligned with what people thought of him, he doesn't fit in with the Hufflepuffs. Logan was determined to help with that somehow, he'd find a way to help his anxiety-prone brother.

"Virgil, spend the night in the Ravenclaw tower with me. This prevents the student from being able to corner you again about the homework, or your preferences, in the Hufflepuff dorms." Logan suggested. Virgil gave a shaky nod and tried to smile lightly at them.

"Hey! You never invite me to stay with you!" Roman said indignatly. It caused a chuckle from the Hufflepuffs but a stern look from Logan.

"That's because you do nothing but disturb the study students," Logan said monotone, knowing the little spouts like this would lightly his brother's mood, "They have requested that I do not invite my Gryffindor brother into the tower."

"You say that like they don't know my name! Which is absolutely preposterous cause we all know I'm the best!" Roman boasted. Logan shook his head regretfully, keep your stupid brother out of our dorms Logan, maybe his housemates don't know his brother's name, they probably didn't care as long as he didn't interrupt their quiet.

"You exaggerate Roman." Logan groaned. They continued arguing about Roman's popularity before Winsy returned with a warm tray of freshly bakes cookies. Logan hated the idea that the house elf had felt the need to make the cookies for the brothers who wouldn't eat them. Patton grinned and rushed to grab the cookies, knowing perfectly well that Logan didn't like eating unhealthy and Roman is working on his figure by dieting. Virgil shrugged as if he had nothing better to do than eat more cookies with the others.
