Each side always had a certain amount of control, knowledge or power that was associated with their trait. Logan, had the most vast amount of pure knowledge about almost everything. Roman was able to create scenes and summon things much easier and with more detail than the other sides were able to. Patton had the ability to tell what everyone was feeling, no matter how well they were bottling it up or faking, he just got an echoed sense of the emotion. Virgil was easily the quickest, and strongest of all the sides, fight or flight and all, but he rarely showed this, and just continued letting Roman think he was the strongest. Deceit’s power almost mirrored Patton’s only instead of feelings and emotions being echoed, it was lies.

Whenever one of the other sides, or even Thomas, lied the lie would echo in the back of his mind. The one’s he heard the most were from Patton and Roman, Virgil had cut back a bit on his lying and Logan rarely lied. The others know of Deceit’s power, but that doesn’t stop them  from lying at all. Sometimes they full on forget about the power the snake has… which is exactly what started this.

“I love you”

“I love you too!”

That caught him off guard, as those two lies echoed in the back of his head… he immediately knew who said them and it made him wince slightly at the realization of who they were talking too. Roman spoke the first lie, while Patton spoke the second. They were talking to their boyfriends, Virgil and Logan, respectively. They’re lying to them… about loving them still… It wasn’t a lie when the confessions were made, when the couples first got together. It was all true love, but that was wrong now. Deceit decided to say nothing about it, maybe Roman and Patton would break it off soon enough as to not hurt them more…

Weeks passed by, and now almost everything Roman and Patton said to Virgil and Logan were lies… Constant I love you’s and compliments echoed in the back of Deceit’s head, it upset him to say the least, especially whenever he heard Logan and Virgil talking about their boyfriends from the other room saying how much they loved them. Virgil would walk around, the others could practically see the hearts in his eyes, the same with Logan. One day Deceit had enough, once he had heard the fake “I love you”’s for the last time.

He was downstairs sitting on the couch, when Roman and Patton soon came down, laughing and talking to one another. “Oh. Hey Deceit!” Patton said cheerfully, ‘Salutations snake.” Roman spoke. Deceit didn’t say anything in response for a moment, before looking at them with an almost glare. “Are you okay?” Patton asked.

“Do you two want to hurt them that badly?’ Deceit asked. Roman’s eyes widened, Patton looked confused for a second, before his expression matched Roman’s as he remembered. “Look, we just didn’t want to hurt them…” Roman said. “You do realize you’re hurting them more by not saying anything?… They’re completely enamored with you…” Deceit said as he stood walking closer to them. Patton sighed, “Please… just… We’ll end it when the time is right… Please don’t tell them-” “Don’t tell them what?” Virgil said as he came down the stairs. Patton shook his head “Oh nothing Virge!” The words echoed in Deceit’s head.

“Yes, nothing of importance, Virgil.” Roman stated. It was obvious that Virgil didn’t believe them as he walked down, standing beside Deceit. “What’s going on?” Logan called as he came down as well. “I think our boyfriends are hiding something…” Virgil murmured. “Haha…. Hey Lo-lo!” Patton said in a cheery tone, as he gave Deceit a look basically saying ‘Don’t say anything.’ Logan stood on the other side of Deceit. “Oh? What would that be?” “N-Nothing!” Virgil glanced at Deceit, “D….” He said as he  turned to face him. “Mind telling me what they were talking about? Before I came down here?” He asked.

Deceit looked back at Patton and Roman who shook their heads quickly, “They have something incredibly important to tell you two…” Deceit said. “Shit…” Roman mumbled under his breath. “What do you two need to say?” Logan spoke, his voice low and dead serious. Deceit stepped away and walked back up to his room, to give the two couples privacy. He heard nothing echoed in his mind for awhile… until he heard a quivering voice speak.

“It’s fine..” He recognized it as Virgil’s voice and left his room just in time to see Virgil running up the stairs sobbing into his hands. He looked at the snake faced trait and gave a bit of a smile, “Thanks… for telling me…” He said. Deceit only nodded. Logan soon joined them rubbing at his eyes, not crying as outwardly as Virgil was, but it was obvious that he was crying nonetheless.

“Yes.. I agree.. I thank you for… not allowing them to stay in the lie longer… This is still incredibly painful however…” Logan spoke. “I can imagine so…” Deceit said in reply, “Yeah… this fucking sucks... I still love him…” “I still love Patton the same, but… if they weren’t happy in the relationship… it’s better that they had… ended it. I don’t understand why their feelings changed however, they didn’t give a reason…”

“I could ask if you wanted me to.” Deceit offered, Virgil and Logan traded a glance, silently communicating, before Virgil shook his head “Nah… I’d rather not know… not now anyway…” Deceit nodded. “Well, I totally won’t be here if you two need me..” he said, Logan and Virgil both gave a small smile as they spoke in unison “Thanks… D”

The next few months were filled with silence across the mindscape…  Patton and Roman ended up getting together about a month after the break-up. Which only made Logan and Virgil hurt more… both of them stayed in their rooms for awhile, Deceit was trying to help them, and it sort of worked, sort of didn’t, he was there for them to vent too, but he couldn’t do much else. Eventually, after six months, Logan and Virgil finally gotten over it and were acting like their normal selves again, they were eating again, sleeping and best of all, Deceit no longer heard “I’m fine” Echoing in the back of his head.
