“I can’t believe him! Just- Showing up in the middle of us filming like that!” Roman’s frustrated whining echoed up to Patton’s room.
“I’m well aware how infuriating it is, we also need to make sure to keep him from impersonating one of us again, him as Patton was damaging enough,” Logan explained, earning a collective hum from the other two in the room.
“I could try to keep him in the darkscape, it’d be more work, but I can manage it…” Virgil’s voice was barely audible.
Patton sighed, he was honestly so tired of it, there’s so much wrong with this, so much wrong with this, he felt like he needed to speak up. As morality he should be allowed to, but the others would most likely downplay him, treat him like a child. That’s what he gets for acting childish right? He shook his head as he stood up and made his way to the door.
He has a much better memory than the others, he doesn’t always show it, but constantly surrounding himself with little things that remind him of specific moments in Thomas’ childhood has it’s advantages, they needed to be reminded of something. He slowly walked down to the living room, not bothering to keep up his happy attitude, not for this, it was too important. Virgil heard him, noticing his expression wasn’t what it was normally, immediately he became concern, “Pat, are you okay?” He asked.
That got the attention of Roman and Logan, their expressions showing the same amount of concerns. “I really think you guys need to see something,” Patton’s voice matched his own expression, dull with just a hint of sadness, “Um, okay, padre, what is it?” Roman asked. Before the other two could ask a question, Patton snapped his fingers, making them all pop out of the living room, and into a bright white room.
Virgil hissed at the light, while Roman and Logan just glanced around the seemingly empty and enormous room. “What is this?” Logan asked, Patton said nothing and sat down on the floor, his back leaning against the wall, and soon enough, the others, including Virgil who now had his hood down and his bangs more in front of his eyes to protect him from the unlight, joined him sitting with their backs to the wall.
There was silence between the four for a minute, until there was a childlike giggle, and an equally childish voice that broke it, “Logan!!! Come on! Come on!” The voice was loud and sounded like the person was out of breath. Soon enough, a small child, around four or five ran in front of them, not paying them any mind. He stopped to catch his breath, brushing his hair out of his face, he was obviously one of them, and by the alarming shade of red he was wearing, it was obvious to tell who it was. Roman’s eyes widened, “What on earth… Is… Is that-”
Another childish voice cut him off from over to their left, “No, Roman! I don’t wanna!” They looked over, this side, had thick, black framed glasses, similar to the one Logan and Patton had now, but they were a bit big for his face, which was evident by how much he kept having to push them up. The other child also wore a lot of dark blue, a dead-give away. Roman snorted, beginning to break out into a laugh, “Nice glasses.” Logan rolled his eyes, not commenting on the child versions of themselves, even though it was obvious that he was trying not to laugh or grin too widely.
The younger Roman, crossed his arms and smirked, as the younger Logan walked over to him, “I’ll tell, Patton.” He said. “I don’t care,” The small logic replied, crossing his arms as well. “Fine,” the small creativity took a deep breath, turning to face away from Logan and in the opposite direction, “PAAAAATTONNNNN!!! LOGAN WON’T PLAY WITH MEEEEEE!!!” All of the sides, except for the younger ones, jumped and began laughing. Virgil snorted, small tears pricking at the corners of his eyes.
When he calmed down, he managed to catch something out of the corner of his eye, two other kids sitting in the back corner. He narrowed his eyes, and without hesitation stood up, trying to see better who they were. The other three didn’t seem to notice as Virgil walked closer, eyes widening as he realized who they were. One of them was wearing black and gray, had his back against the wall, his knees to his chest, arms wrapped around them and his head resting on his knees. He looked like he was shaking, and with the little he could hear from his distance, crying as well.
That was him, he remembered this, when he was this little, anything overly loud and unexpected startled him enough to make him start crying. Roman shouting, was definitely loud and unexpected. “Who…” Roman, the adult one, asked quietly, he had noticed Virgil missing and followed him. “Me,” Virgil replied simply, “What happened? Do you remember?” Roman asked. Virgil nodded, mumbling out the explanation, “Anything really loud and surprising scared me enough to make me cry when I was this little… You shouting probably scared me.”
Roman opened his mouth, about to ask who the other side was, but was quickly given an answer as the side turned to where his back was against the wall as well, making the small scales on the side of his face visible. “Ew.” The prince stated. The child Deceit glanced at the Child Virgil yet again, “I won’t be back,” He said, making the anxious trait whimper. “I-I didn’t… I meant,” He stammered unable to understand why he wasn’t saying what he wanted to. He got up and ran back over to where the others were. Virgil and Roman followed him
The child Patton was scolding Roman for pulling Logan’s hair then complaining about him not wanting to play. Deceit quickly went over and grabbed onto his arm, without saying anything, “Ew,” The child Roman stated as Deceit looked at him with a hint of malous. He tugged on Patton’s arm pointing in the direction of where the anxious trait was, “What?” Patton glanced over his eyes widening and immediately he rushed over to where Virgil was to comfort him.
The adult Patton snapped his fingers, and the scene shifted, they were just a bit older, about elementary school age. Again, the small Roman ran in front of them, holding out a foam sword, “Don’t get closer beast! I shall end you!” He yelled smiling widely. “Hisssss You won’t win! I’ll end you Prince!” The child Deceit hissed, smiling widely, not in a malicious way or anything of the sort. “Oh… I…. forgot about that…” Roman mumbled as he watched the younger version of himself and the side he despised play fight as little kids. Patton glanced over at him, “You two were actually really close at some points, but you don’t seem to remember that.”
“We’re no longer children, it’s different. He’s only filled with malintent.” Roman spat, refusing to feel bad about this. Patton tilted his head to the side, “You really think that?” His question caused the royal to roll his eyes, “Of course! Anyone who lies an excessive amount is malicious!” Patton paused, biting his tongue trying to decide if he should say what came to his mind, eventually, he decided to do so, “Then you’re a hypocrite.”
Before Roman could reply, Patton snapped his fingers making the scene shift one last time. The scene now showed what the imagination use to look like, it was an empty black room, the light coming from the lines where the floor, walls and ceiling met. The younger side alone in the room was in fact Roman, he was about fifteen or 16. The teenager glanced around, waving his hand in a certain way that looked fairly similar to how Roman rose up now when he was summoned.
Nothing happened, so he did it again, and again and again. Nothing, he groaned hitting the wall with his fist, before whimpering in pain and immediately regretting that. “Why isn’t it working!! I can’t make anything!! I-I’m…” He sniffled sinking down to his knees defeated, “I’m creativity, I’m supposed to do this… I failed... “ He mumbled before curling up and beginning to cry pathetically. “Are you okay?” Another voice said, the teenager version of Deceit appeared, he had many more scales apparent on his face now, walking closer to Roman. The prince wiped his eyes quickly, narrowing his eyes at him, “I’m fine! Leave me alone you snake!” He quickly stood up. “I-I’m not just trying to help!” He said, which lead to him being shoved, “Exactly! So leave me alone!!!” Creativity yelled in his face before he ran off.
“That… That means nothing, I wasn’t lying… Well, I was, but lying to him doesn’t count!” Roman stated, attempting to keep his guard up. “But later that day…” Patton began, waving his hand, suddenly the teenage versions of Logan and Patton were talking to the same teenager Roman, his eyes still a bit puffy, “Are you okay?” Patton asked, The teenager laughed, “Yeah! Of course! I’m perfect as always!” His self-absorbed sounding statement prompted Logan to roll his eyes.
Patton sighed, he snapped his fingers and they were all in the living room again, “I just thought you might want a reminder… Go back to talking” He mumbled as he walked back up the stairs to his bedroom, shutting and locking the door behind him.
